Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ & Owners’ Association
The FTBOA is Florida’s primary advocate for the Thoroughbred industry, representing breeders and stallion farms from its headquarters in Ocala, Marion County — the Horse Capital of the World®.
Working alongside industry and legislative partners, the FTBOA has repeatedly defended against racetrack decoupling legislation, preserving the economic foundation of Florida racing. The FTBOA also secured $33.5 million in annual state allocations that fund purse and incentive programs, and defray HISA assessments.
FTBOA’s incentive structure is among the most comprehensive regional breeding programs. Breeder and Stallion Awards offer up to 15% of gross purse when Florida-breds finish in the money at Florida tracks.
The 2026 Florida Sire Racing Incentives program distributes $20,000 to owners and $5,000 to breeders of Florida-sired 2-year-old winners in upper-level conditions at Florida racetracks. The 2026 FTBOA Export Incentives program rewards breeders whose Florida-breds win out of state. No-Fee Registrations for Florida-bred and Florida Sire programs are available to FTBOA members for foals of 2025 and 2026, eliminating barriers to participation.
FTBOA.com is Florida’s industry news-hub, averaging more than 25,000 monthly views. The daily digest Wire to Wire and a robust social media presence keep stakeholders connected to racing and industry news statewide.
Florida-breds are a major Florida agricultural export. We perennially lead all states outside Kentucky in total starts, earnings, open stakes wins, and graded stakes wins — a record built on six Kentucky Derby winners, 31 Breeders’ Cup victories, and 66 national champions.

Joseph M. O’Farrell Memorial Award
Presented by Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company
Stuart Morris & Golden Rock Thoroughbreds
Ocala Breeders’ Sales present the Joseph M. O’Farrell Memorial Award to consignors Stuart Morris and Golden Rock Thoroughbreds’ Keiber Rengifo, sale consignor of Grade 1 stakes winner Bentornato.
Stuart Morris consigned Florida-bred champion millionaire Bentornato at the 2022 October Yearling Sale. Champion Equine subsequently purchased Bentornato for $170,000 out of the Golden Rock Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2023 March Sale after breezing in :20 4/5.
The Joseph M. O’Farrell Memorial Award is presented annually by OBS to the consignor(s) of the year’s best Florida-bred racehorse once offered at an OBS auction.
The award honors Joseph M. O’Farrell, a pivotal figure in Florida’s Thoroughbred industry. He was a founding member as part of the nineman syndicate that established Ocala Stud in 1956 and a founding member of OBS. He was a pioneer of public Thoroughbred auctions in Florida and instrumental in advancing Florida’s Thoroughbred industry and sales programs.

11 TIME AWARD WINNER
Needles Award (Small Breeder of the Year) Rivermont Farm
Ashley & Vince Mirarchi
The Needles Award annually recognizes an accomplished small Florida breeder and this year is presented to Ashley and Vincent Mirachi, owners of Rivermont Farm in Ocala. Among the Rivermont-bred stars in 2025 were Jasper Robusto, winner of the Aso Stakes, BSN Sho Stakes and Hakusan Daishoten Stakes while also finishing second in three other added-money races. In six starts in 2025, all in Japan, Jasper Robusto banked US$669,565.
For the year, Rivermont-bred runners produced seven wins, six seconds and a third while earning $805,410.
This award honors Needles, the first American champion bred in Florida as the 1955 Champion 2-Year-Old Male after winning the Hopeful and Sapling Stakes. The following year, Needles took the Flamingo Stakes and Florida Derby before becoming the first Florida-bred winner of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. He was then honored as the 1956 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt. Bred by William E. Leach, the son of Ponder out of the Jack High mare Noodle Soup raced for D & H Stable.
Broodmare of the Year
Her Special Way
Her Special Way, dam of Cygames Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Grade 1)-winner Bentornato, is the 2024 Florida Broodmare of the Year as selected by the FTBOA board of directors.
Bentornato is the star offspring for Her Special Way as the Florida-bred Champion Older Male and Champion Male Sprinter of 2025. His two-and-a-half-length domination of the $1.84 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint and his victory in the $267,500 Louisville Thoroughbred Society at Churchill Downs (Listed) on September 13 were his only two starts of the year but accounted for $1,190,350 in earnings. Bred in Florida by Charles and Susan Chu’s Tanma Corp., and owned by Leon King Stable Corp., and Julia C. and Michael Iavarone, Bentornato was an Eclipse award finalist for Champion Sprinter.
By the Florida-bred and 2012 leading Florida sire Put It Back, out of the Seattle Sleet mare Inaspecial Way, Her Special Way was bred in Florida by Mary George and raced by Mari George Racing. She retired in 2015 with two wins and a third from five starts and earnings of $32,590.
Now owned by Champion Equine LLC, Her Special Way has produced two winners from four starters and six foals, with total progeny earnings of more than $2.3 million through 2025. She was bred back to Girvin in 2025 and resides at Mulholland Springs in Kentucky.
Florida Breeder of the Year Live Oak Stud
Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Stud has been named the Florida Breeder of the Year as voted upon by the FTBOA board of directors, her Live Oak Plantation also earned the title as Leading Owner of Florida-breds (by earnings). Weber too, was inducted into the FTBOA Hall of Fame in 2025.
The 2025 season makes her seventh Florida Breeder of the Year honor having been selected Florida Breeder of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Her homebreds in 2025 earned $2,889,679 from 386 starts with 65 wins, 52 seconds and 68 thirds.
Success at the racetrack reflects Weber’s approach to Live Oak’s successful breeding program.
“You try to breed the best to the best,” Weber said. “If you are fortunate as I am, and you are able to race the horses you breed and give them the time necessary, they will return the investment.”
MEMBER
Charlotte Weber
Florida’s Leading Owner Live Oak Plantation
Live Oak Plantation posted Floridabreds earnings in 2025 of $3,120,351 from 259 starts with 45 wins, 50 seconds and 36 thirds. This is the eighth leading owner honor for Live Oak Plantation. She previously topped the owner standings in 2011, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021 and 2024.
Live Oak’s Crystal Quest won the Turf Classic Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Florida Cup Day 2025. The determined score gave Live Oak its 12th Florida Cup Day winner. It was the second Florida Cup victory for Crystal Quest, who won the 2024 Sophomore Turf at the Oldsmar track.
Bring Theband Home earned his first graded stakes win at Saratoga with a frontrunning score in the $300,000 Troy S. (G2). After winning the Listed Harvey Pack, covering five furlongs on the turf in :59.90, The Harvey Pack time was just a tenth-ofa-second off the course record and is one of the only two sub one minute five furlong races in history.
Weber bought the 4,500-acre Live Oak in 1968.
