UPD’s 6th Annual Toy Drive FGCU PHOTO

UPD asks for donations for its 6th Annual Toy Drive, which benefits children's hospitals across Florida and children in the area under residential medical care.

T

he University Police Department (UPD) is collecting toys, gift cards and monetary donations as part of its 6th Annual Toy Drive with Heroes Unmasked. Donations benefit children’s hospitals across Florida and children in the area who require residential medical care. UPD asks members of the FGCU community to dig deep, be generous and help support this cause. This year’s toy drive again features a competition among the faculty, staff and students to collect the greatest number of donations. The winners in each category will receive a plaque, and the overall winner will be mentioned on a plaque that hangs in UPD's lobby. All other participants will receive a certificate. Toy collection boxes are available on a firstcome, first-serve basis, and unwrapped toys, gift cards and money will be collected through Dec. 14. If your group, organization or department would like to participate (or receive more information), contact Detective Joe Anderson at janderson@fgcu.edu.

Time to celebrate

how your FGCU Eagle pride and join your colleagues at Alico Arena at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, for the formal installation of our fifth president, Aysegul Timur, Ph.D. We hope to fill the stands at Alico Arena for this time-honored tradition. A free, outdoor lunch will follow on the FGCU Soccer Field. Similar to a university commencement, the installation is a formal ceremony that includes speeches and processional marches of faculty and dignitaries in full academic regalia. The university-wide celebration is one of great joy, and it will mark FGCU’s achievements over the past 26 years and what lies ahead for the institution. During the ceremony, Timur will be installed with the articles and symbols of FGCU’s President’s Office, and she will take receipt of the presidential chain of office from the FGCU Board of Trustees. Presidents Emeriti Mike Martin, Wilson G. Bradshaw and Roy McTarnaghan plan to attend. Timur was unanimously confirmed as FGCU’s fifth president by the Florida Board of Governors on June 22, following her selection as president-elect by the FGCU Board of Trustees in May.
