History is a story written from the writer’s point of view. It gives us our identity and sense of belonging, making it an integral part of our lives.

Black and Minority Ethnic communities lived feeling isolated from their history and identity. They have not always had opportunities to celebrate their achievements and own their voices. Through Lives of Colour we acknowledge that our diverse experiences are something to be shared and glorified.

It is from the choices we make as individuals, communities, organisations and businesses that we can collectively make the change needed to bring unity to our society.

No great victories are won in war for the transformation of a whole people without total participation. Less than this will not create a new society. Martin Luther King Jr. We thankful our collaborators and partner organisations for their support and especially the Heritage Lottery Fund. We believe that by continuing to work together we will build the infrastructure that is representative of all.

What does it mean to be black and British in 2018 will explore my personal experience as well as considering the wider picture. It will ask questions such as: does racism still exist? How might this affect black British people today? What stories are being told about black British people?

Louisa Adjoa Parker is a British poet, writer and researcher who focuses on telling the stories of marginalised voices, especially those of black and minority ethnic people.
