From The Editors’ Desk Dear All Happy New Financial Year 2018 It would be no exaggeration if the year 2017 is marked as a blockbuster year in the history of A-1. With this stupendous year ending, the year 2018 opened up with huge possibilities.

The vision journey which started in mid-2016 found its true soul n structure in the mid2017. This journey of our being, past, present and future was brilliantly communicated across all levels in the organization & has empowered each one in the organization to realize our collective dream. This was the year when we also shared our life @ A-1 to the external world through a very engaging and exciting video. It showcased what exactly we really live & believe in, i.e. a great place to work!

In this newsletter you would come across exciting news on people, thoughts & action and also on one of the most awaited factory establishment in Jammu, of which we are proud of.

This newsletter has also attempted to maintain the region specific individuality to its best possible natural self but there are times where the people, action and comments have been merged under one roof, thereby celebrating oneness in diversity. The Spotlight section will highlight more on our association with our revered clients & customers making an excellent example of a win-win relationship wherein they are more like a family member than a channel partner or customer.

This year was a year of looking within, external as well as internal. Inspired Excellence / MBTI, aimed at self-discovery was an extremely rewarding exercise which helped us look beyond & open up many possibilities. It was truly a life changing experiential exercise, which had great impact on each one of us.

A-1 Fence has made its presence felt, like many times in the past, this time too through active participation in exhibitions like BIG 5-India, Kisan 2017-India, Intersect –Dubai, Securex-Kenya , Securex -Nigeria etc.

The fun time @ A-1 family within India & ME occupied the major part of excitement in the year 2017. There have been many exciting moments which are beyond our description, it's etched in our memory pods, such beautiful moments some captured in camera & some in our hearts!

Well said by PKG, we might be getting older by years, but this time ahead we will be growing with a purpose ie, Explore, Connect, Grow.

My dear A-1ites, What a wonderful phase we are all experiencing in A-1. I can best describe the feeling citing a few lines from "Wind of Change" song -

Deeply moving experiences we all have had over several Inspired Excellence workshops, have brought us closer to the most important person in our lives - self.

Without this discovery of self, the dream of A-1 cannot be realised.

The world is closing in Did you ever think That we could be so close, like brothers The future's in the air I can feel it everywhere Blowing with the wind of change Aint we feeling the winds of change everywhere. We all experienced the euphoria which started from Dubai and traveled all the way across to Sanjan passing through MCA in Mumbai - when the core ideology of A-1 was articulated and vision for 2025 was communicated. As the euphoria settled down, the dream has started to grow on all of us. I feel it for myself. Through all the actions or reflections, one eye is firmly on the dream. As each day passes by, the desire to realize that dream is growing, and that fuels us through the path which is not easy. We all know that it is going to take a lot out of all of us, and we have signed up for it. But the good news is, we are together, and together we will put it across.

Steps towards 2025 have started.

If we want to see what the future at A-1 Fence will look like, peep inside the crystal ball of A-1 Fence Sanjan factory, and see the Wire Storage System.

The leadership workshop at Jumeriah Lake Towers in Dubai was an experience to remember. Days like these would give us the Leaders for tomorrow.

Deeply moving experiences we all have had over several Inspired Excellence workshops, have brought us closer to the most important person in our lives self. Without this discovery of self, the dream of A-1 cannot be realised.

The ABP journey initiation day at Dubai was another wow moment, just as the day we finalised the SFA’s - Strategic Focus Areas.

Harnessing the power of our AND, together we have initiated few important teams to enable our 10X: Formation of Steering Committee (enabled by the Program Management team) to guide us through the entire Change Journey and the Executive Management team towards managing the execution are the two key pillars on which the Grand Dream of A-1 will be built into a reality.

The thing that should not change is the self or the identity of A-1 Fence. This includes the core ideology - in layman’s term, discovering who we are and what we want to achieve. This marked the beginning of the transformation journey.

A-1 Fence over the last 2 decades has grown substantially. A-1 started with 6 employees in a small block, today it has grown into a global organization having close to a 1000 employees, multiple manufacturing and sales setups worldwide capable of producing a gamut of products in different domains like security, safety & landscaping and serving wide range of customers from farmer to army spread across the globe. The complexities have increased, earlier we had two levels of management and today we have 4 sometimes 5 levels. With different people joining from different backgrounds, it became a challenge to understand what the organization as a whole is and what it wants to do. At the same time, the world outside has changed drastically and is changing continuously at breathtaking pace. So there was a constant realization that the way of working that brought us from inception to today, may not be able to take us much further in future. And thus began our transformation journey. But when we are speaking about transformation and changes, is there anything that should not change?

The thing that should not change is the self or the identity of A-1 Fence.

This includes the core ideology - in layman’s term, discovering who we are.

Core ideology includes core values (something we stand for) and purpose (our reason for existence). This marked the beginning of the transformation journey at A-1. We started by discovering our core ideology and then went on to put down our shared vision. Shared vision is the definition of where we want to reach and what we want to achieve in future. Having established who we are and what we want to achieve, we are now busy planning on how we are going to achieve the vision.

Further details on how we discovered and what is our core ideology, how we went about creating the vision and how are we going to achieve it, who facilitated and who formed all these will be a part of coming newsletters.

All we can say for now is that exciting times lie ahead!

Jammu Operations HARSH TYAGI

A-1 Fence has added one more feather in their cap as Jammu Operations were launched. The whole idea came into being to enhance the organization’s manufacturing capabilities, mainly, to cater to North & North Eastern regions of India.

Situated in the picturesque location of Samba town in J&K State around 35 km from Jammu, the plant became operational in September, 2017 and started supplies to India & Overseas markets.

The Safety & Quality Standards of Jammu Operations are best as per Industry norms and in line with various standards of our organization. Jammu has already been a transit point for our Major supplies to Northern Command of Indian Army who has been deploying our Fencing at Line of Control of Indo Pak Border. Our presence here, through this plant, has augmented the whole process of these supplies.

The 10X concept in the A-1 Vision was the strongest message to trigger me to think out of the box. When it comes to implementing 10X in the current business scenario, first thing that comes to my mind is total customer delight. Which implies, focussing on the customer need, and try & get into the mind set of offering the best integrated system solution to them. This way as a company we standout & have a certain edge over our competitors.

For several years, corporate communications was all about drafting speeches for your CEO, distributing communication material at the office, and creating content for the internal newsletter. However, the definition of corporate communication and what it stands for is fast changing.

Today, the manner in which employees are informed and engaged is evolving rapidly. “A happy employee is a productive employee”, as the adage goes. To take it a step further, an informed employee is a happy employee. To communicate at A-1, we have begun to adopt new and inspiring corporate communication tools. Let’s break the ice together.

C Cube is the A-1 Corporate Communication Cell which aims at enhancing two-way communication amongst the internal as well as external stakeholders. This cell is meant to enable strengthening of communication at A-1 group, which will then help us strengthen the connect internally and externally.

Thus the purpose of C Cube is Communicate, Connect & Change. Also the exponential function representation in C Cube has a connotation of nonlinear or quantum growth-10x. C Cube will play a key role in managing and orchestrating all communication. Our first initiative is the internal newsletter ‘The Voice of A-1’. Many other employee engagement ideas and communication initiatives are in the pipeline, which will be shared in due course of time.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY

A-1 promotes Menstrual Hygiene Menstrual hygiene continues to be amongst the most challenging development issues today in India. Not only it’s a deep-rooted taboo, myths and misinformation create the illusion that menstruation is inherently shameful, gross and weird, but in many developing countries, women and girls often lack access to hygienic sanitary materials and basic facilities (such as toilets, clean water and soap) necessary for good menstrual hygiene management (MHM). It is appalling that something that is taken for granted by most of us affects the education and income of nearly half of India’s female population, therefore Breaking taboos & raising awareness on menstrual hygiene, A-1 promoted Menstrual hygiene session for Women at Sanjan plant, aiming to educate women masses about menstruation, this session was conducted with Sanjan factory women workers on 20th Sept 2017.The entire event was organized with support of Mr. Harshad Parmar & Mr. Ashok Singh from Sanjan factory HR team. The event had a participation of nearly 120 women workers. Doctor Aruna Shah with her team enlightened the women through their presentation & videos. This message on menstrual hygiene was not only limited to the Sanjan plant, but HO too was swept in its wing. The movie Padman was sponsored by the company & maximum viewers hit the cinema theatres on the 21st Feb 2018.The message conveyed through the movie was bold and clear and later Manish and Mehul shared some powerful insights on the movie through a power packed presentation to all at HO. A-1 family once again makes us feel proud of our values...

Opening of Canteen @ Sanjan The much awaited Sanjan canteen was inaugurated by PKG on 26th January 2018, in the presence of all plant staffs and workers and the architects of this monumental feat. This canteen is truly a visual delight with its spaciousness & natural lights, huge window panes & a natural cross ventilation, its positive features are endless. What more we need for a dining place, which is spic & span with hygiene given a top priority.

It is not only a great place to dine to gather but ever since its inception, the canteen has witnessed many employee get to gathers, many productive gatherings. The Canteen centre wall with A-1 Purpose – Explore, Connect , Grow has already become the new found selfie spot for all resident diners and visitors.

Safety Awareness Safety week started with introduction on Safety along with safety training at Athal & Sanjan location. The topic on Safety Awareness was shared

by Mr. Rupesh Patil & Training on Safety was conducted by Pradyush Kar.

Fire Drill Demo Fire demo was conducted, wherein a small demo fire was put up demonstrate practically as to how to use fire extinguisher in case of emergency fire.

Women’s Day Celebration Womens Day was celebrated on 8th March’ 18 with all the ladies at A-1 fence. All the ladies were given a batch written -“proud to be a woman”.

A small programme was planned for the ladies on “Women’s Health, Hygiene & Fitness” by Mrs. Mona (Head Nurse-CHC Bhilad) along with Ms. Pooja Shah & Mr. Harshad Shah between 3-4pm. After the session women were made to play games and lots of fun.

Quiz competition was held on 9 March’18. wherein questions were on GK, Current affairs, Safety & Audio visual rounds. There were 25 participants divided into 5 teams - Team Red, Team Adani, Team Night Surfer, Team Ninja & Team Veer. Team Night surfer won the competition with 16 score.
