Dear FLlTE Center Supporters and Friends:
Welcome to FLITE Center’s 7th Annual Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort Heroes Luncheon presented by Amazon!
I hope you are just as excited as we are as we continue to “Evolve!” Today’s theme acknowledges the mission FLITE Center has been on to increase its collective impact on youth who would otherwise be traveling the road to adulthood alone. Over the last eight years, we have evolved and expanded the ways we support transitioning youth, partnering organizations and the community. We now have a second space on our campus! Expanded health and wellness services, and the addition of more essential partners have allowed us to take huge steps in broadening the “one stop” model concept, offering access to a wider array of services that were previously difficult for youth and system professionals to engage.
To the donors who support FLITE Center and the TIL (Transition to Independent Living) System of Care, THANK YOU! Without your support, the ability to connect and provide youth with employment, education, emergency and long-term housing and health & wellness services would continue to be a challenging and daunting process. Because of your generous investment in us, we are able to bring hope to our youth and ensure that talented staff across the system of care are there for those who have no one else in their corner.
FLITE’s mission cannot be achieved alone. We are committed to evolving with each youth, supporting their journey to adulthood with success, alongside the many organizations and individual heroes who dedicate their expertise and time to shaping the lives of those who represent our future. Equally important to the donors who make our work possible are the champions who carry out FLITE’s mission across the TIL System of Care. Today, we present one of our most meaningful honors, the “Amazon TIL System of Care Unsung Heroes Award.” This award recognizes a frontline staff member from each organization FLITE partners with, reflecting the collaborative work we do in support of transitioning youth in Broward County. Truly, nothing FLITE achieves would be possible without the organizations forming the TIL System of Care, and no single organization would have such a profound impact without the tireless dedication of these daily “heroes.”
Our hope for today is that everyone will walk away with an immense appreciation for the collaborative partnerships that form the TIL System of Care as well as a clear understanding of how FLITE Center’s framework directly impacts the availability of resources for each organization and youth, alike. On behalf of the FLITE Center, thank you for your support as we continue to “evolve” with new opportunities to serve even more youth.
Thank you for sharing this momentous day,
Christine M. Frederick, MSW Chief Executive Officer
Dear Friends,
Welcome to all our partners, contributors, employees, board members and frontline staff to the 7th Annual FLITE Center Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort “Evolve” Heroes Luncheon presented by Amazon. This is a special event because it gives us an opportunity to recognize and show appreciation for all of you, who are out there day in and day out providing services to and championing our community’s young people, especially those most at-risk.
Today, we take that opportunity to honor our community partners and the real “Unsung Heroes”: the frontline staff from collaborating organizations who support and dedicate their lives to impacting youth in Broward County’s Transitional Independent Living (TIL) System of Care. These champions are helping our TIL youth evolve and grow beyond their expectations to not only survive but thrive! Their commitment is truly an inspiration to us all. FLITE Center couldn’t do what we do without all of you, and our “one-stop shop” approach toward helping vulnerable youth receive education, employment, housing, health and wellness, resource navigation and system of care coordination remains unwavering.
FLITE Center experienced tremendous growth in 2024 that reflected the needs of our community, and strove to further close the gap in healthcare and mental health services. We are proud to have certified professionals on the FLITE team who are serving youth in-house. With our new 5,000 sq. ft. Health & Wellness Center, youth are building trust and getting the help they need with the health professionals on site five days a week. These services provide immense benefits to our youth in both the short-term and for years to come. FLITE Center has also continued to expand its services for youth human trafficking survivors throughout the state, and will continue to do so this coming year.
Our future is bright thanks to the dedicated FLITE staff, TIL partner agencies and YOU. Thank you for coming to support our community’s heroes and strengthening the TIL community.
Kindest regards,
Wanda Perez
Wanda Perez, MBA, SHRM-CP, PHR Human Resources Executive Board Chair 2024-25
FLITE (Fort Lauderdale Independence, Training & Education) Center was created in 2009 through a partnership of the Community Foundation of Broward, the United Way of Broward and the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale, with the intent of offering comprehensive access to services for youth aging out of foster care. Today, FLITE Center is where all transitioning youth and young adults who have faced trauma come seeking ways to become successful adults within a safe, nurturing environment. FLITE Center is Broward County’s one stop resource center, offering comprehensive and seamless service delivery for youth and young adults ages 10 to 23 involved in the child welfare system, including youth with special and behavioral needs, youth from the LGBTQ+ community, survivors of human trafficking, youth from the Department of Juvenile Justice, youth who have no high school diploma, those who are unemployed, homeless, or facing any other unfortunate circumstance.
FLITE Center is, quite literally, the emergency room of the TIL (Transition to Independent Living) System of Care, coordinating services for 2,382 youth between 10/1/23 9/30/24. FLITE connects youth and young adults with an array of services including employment and education, health and wellness, ancillary supports and largely, with safe, affordable housing opportunities. As you can imagine, it takes quite an effort to wrap so many services in one location and we could not do it without our supporters, partnering agencies, and amazing team.
The critical need for continuum of care continues to EVOLVE outside the borders of Broward County, with services and emergency housing for human trafficking survivors in our West Palm Beach center and our team covering Central Florida.
Thank you for joining us at this year’s Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort Heroes Luncheon presented by Amazon, and continuing to make a difference in the lives of so many young adults in our community and beyond. You helped us further realize our vision that no youth travels the road to adulthood alone.
