NUPRChadonOctober28, 2024conveyedagrantof ministerialconsenttothe transferofTotalEnergies' entire10%participating interestintheNigerian NationalPetroleum CompanyLimited (NNPCL)andShell PetroleumDevelopment Company(SPDC)Joint Venture–excludingOMLs 23,28and77–toTelema EnergiesNigeriaLimited ownedbyChappal Energies.
Specifically,thisdivestment involvedTotalEnergies' 10%participatinginterestin OilMiningLeases(OML) 20,21,22,23,25,27,28, 31,32,33,35,36,43,45, 46,74,77and79.However, monthsaftertheapproval, ChappalEnergiesfailedto consummatethedeal, despiteextensions graciouslygrantedbythe commission.Basedonthis, theministerialconsentfor thedealwaswithdrawnon May29,2025.
However,thewithdrawalof ministerialconsentdoesnot inanywayruleoutthe possibilityofafuture divestmentbytheinterested parties,providedsuchan assetsaleisinlinewith extantlaws.
