2022 Modular Building Institute (MBI) Honourable Mention – Relocatable Modular Workforce Housing
Superior accommodation village housing 120 workers Fleetwood was selected by Explaurum Operations to deliver a full turnkey accommodation solution for workers at the Tampia Gold mine operations. The purpose-built 120-man camp, situated 1km from the Narembeen township and 25 kilometres from the mine, was built in just three months, providing a rapid, easily accessible housing solution with close ties to the local community.

Fleetwood expertly navigated the unique remote site challenge – designing the facilities to be self-sufficient where needed.
The full turnkey solution will provide facilities for workers throughout the duration of the Tampia Gold mine project, which will see the ore from the Narembeen deposit trucked to Ramelius Resources’ processing plant at Edna May Mine.
To combat extremely poor site soil conditions, site preparation included clearing 200mm topsoil from the site, plus the importation and compaction of 700mm clean fill. Screw piles were also installed for all buildings on-site to adhere to engineering requirements and an independent wastewater treatment plant for the camp was constructed, as existing wastewater infrastructure was unable to meet the increased demand. The completed facilities include: • • • • • • •

The camp’s proximity to the town centre reduces barriers, enabling access to all the benefits of the local and existing community amenities such as the gymnasium, bowls club, swimming pool and sporting groups with the added benefit of promoting improved outcomes for remote workers health and wellbeing. Fleetwood is proud to have provided this accommodation solution that generates considerable short-term flowon benefits such as the creation of local employment for businesses. In the long term, once mine operations are complete the camp may be reactivated for a second life cycle as a short-term accommodation facility. All screw piles can be removed, as they are less intrusive than traditional construction methods and the camp footprint restored to its previous state.
Port Kembla Coal Terminal Office Complex
Purpose built office facility to support 24-hour terminal This project included site preparation, design and manufacture of a two-storey office complex, 1,500sqm in floor area. The stackable office was designed to house the 120-strong project team, working on the upgrade ofall mine equipment and machinery for the terminal. The building features 2.7m high flat ceilings, concealed beam design (15m clear span on the 1st floor), large kitchens and eating areas, male and female amenities, accessible facilities, internal stair cases, offices and meeting areas and contemporary work stations. Safety was paramount for both the client and Fleetwood, and the project was completed without incident.
Fernbrooke State School Fleetwood was contracted to deliver a design and construct solution for Fernbrooke State School for primary students and staff. The project made up a portion of the school’s master plan that saw a hazardous space converted into classrooms to create an enclosed outside play area between all classrooms for a specific section of the school. In addition to the delivery and installation of the classrooms, Fleetwood completed further civil and site works as part of the project. Moving from outdated legacy buildings to a specifically designed education building all within 14 weeks was a major benefit for the school who required these facilities to allow for the future growth of the campus. The school has also been able to make use of hazardous space on campus due to the semipermanent design and brick work incorporated that has produced a much more desirable façade. The building was also built up-spec to trial new insulation ideas to counteract excessively hot days successfully.
Abydos Mining Camp
Award-winning smart lock Glyde Digital is a world first, Internet of Things (IoT) technology developed by Fleetwood Australia that makes accommodation smarter, providing real-time information to optimise convenience and comfort for guests. First applied to mining workforce accommodation, Glyde Digital transforms guest and staff transactions from a physical to a digital exchange, allowing contactless room check-in and access using smartphones, as one example. Bringing the customer and facilities closer together, Glyde Digital offers greater efficiencies for accommodation operators and a superior experience for guests. APPLIANCE AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT
The guest pain points of Check In and Check Out are eliminated and in doing so this delivers labour savings for the accommodation operator.

High quality FIFO camp and permanent accommodation Fleetwood were engaged by Laing O’Rourke to undertake the construction and delivery of the Combabula Village in Central Queensland. The 550-man village comprised of two stages, a 150-man ‘fly in’ camp and a 350-man permanent village consisting of a range of facilities. Fleetwood’s role was to deliver a full turnkey solution, which specifically included a two-phased approach for the Australia Pacific LNG Gas Processing Facilities Accommodation Camp in Queensland. With the project spanning over 3 years, the Village required a range of facilities including: laundries, wet
and dry mess, reception, commercial kitchens, gym, 4-person single person quarters (SPQs), 2-person PWD, sports oval, multipurpose courts and a volleyball area. The Australia Pacific LNG Gas Processing Facilities project involved the construction of 6 new gas processing plants, which included the Combabula Village in the heart of Queensland. The project generated considerable flow-on benefits throughout the Queensland economy, creating approximately 6,000 direct jobs during the peak construction phase.
Combabula Village
Multi-award winning contactless accommodation and community facility Fleetwood delivered a full turn-key solution as part of a build, own and operate business model used for the Searipple Workers Accommodation Village in Karratha, Western Australia. The purpose-built village is set upon 15 hectares with over 1,300 rooms and is one of the largest accommodation villages in Western Australia. Fleetwood now operates the village and has recently implemented an adaptable energy management system to 622 of the rooms with the help of Glyde, a Fleetwood operated company delivering solutions through the Internet of Things (IoT).
The Searipple Village was developed initially as a construction camp and in recent times as a modular accommodation village. Searipple’s key focus is providing guests with short and long term affordable, quality accommodation. Fleetwood is proud to have provided this accommodation solution as it has assisted the resources and construction sector within in the Pilbara, which have generated thousands of jobs for the local community.
