When we look back on 2020, we look back on a year that shows how much the beauty industry - and every person within it - is valued.

It was the year that brought us closer, when we couldn’t be Physically close.

And a year in which millions of us joined global community groups, to hear from, and support one another.

It was the year that we came together in our thousands, to fight, fundraise and lobby for our industry. It’s not over yet, but let’s hope that 2021 all this will be only one bad nightmare.

In March, when they declared a lockdown, I was scared of surviving without our clients, without a job.

But knowing myself I am much stronger and braver when I am in trouble or under a lot of pressure.

Seeing how empty the bank account is, I panicked.

I knew that this is the moment when you have to take risks, so I said to myself, Maja, you will either get it or you will stay on the street, but you must not give up.

Thank you 2020 for making me a beast, to rise from the ashes again.

I want to thank everyone in my team ML Pro and FLEEK And I just want to wish you a VERY SUCCESSFUL AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, And I promise you that we will be the best and strongest team in the world.

So the idea for my brand was realized 1 year earlier. ML Pro was born in the most difficult period of my life.

But I did not stop there because while they get to know the brand it takes time, and we were all at home without work.

After my successful attempt as Editor in Chief of Lash Inc. Croatia, I decided to register a trademark for my own magazine with the hope that next year it will grow into a global magazine.

But many sleepless nights spent online, laptop, phone, helped my 2 babies ML Pro and FLEEK grow overnight into global brands.

I can thank all my colleagues for the expressed respect and trust in me. I can proudly say after 4 months since the founding of ML Pro I have distributors in Macedonia and Serbia and I am in negotiations with 4 more.

FLEEK has 10 franchises, 2 months since its founding and of course the main FLEEK is UK ,so in total 11.

I can only say that this year, despite all the ups and downs and stresses, I had many good moments that I hope will be doubled in the new 2021, because I deserve it.

Thank you 2020 for making me a beast, to rise from the ashes again.

For any lash artist, it is essential to be able to learn and get inspired by the latest trends in the industry, as well as to have a space to share experiences and work results with other colleague lash artists and, among other cool things, Fleek Magazine offers that and more.

Working with Maja Kiprovska, who is not only an amazing lash artist, but also an extremely successful business woman, is a privilege and a pleasure. To be able to bring the international world of lashes to Mexico has been an incredible journey for me, and now with Fleek Magazine Mexico, we can offer the perfect space for mingling and learning to any lash artist, no matter if they are barely starting or are already masters.

She is a multiple awarded Lash Artist, Judge and a Speaker. Matea is also a Nail Technician, Lash Lift and Brow Trainer but her passion are lashes and trainings. She loves to travel and meet new people.

FLEEK represents the past, the present, and the future of today’s tremendous beauty industry.

Humanity has witnessed the significant evolution of the beauty industry, thanks to countless artists dedication. I have been working hard to build up the legacy from our previous pioneers.

Together with the FLEEK Magazine community, I hope to promote the ongoing growth, as well as to provide a fresh perspective for the beauty industry in the new era.

I started in 2015 with the nanoring hair extensions and brought them to Switzerland. I opened up my first Beauty Salon in 2016 - specialized in lashes and hair extensions.

After 3 years in business I started teaching.

Since Summer 2020 we are the first company that is producing Nanoring Hair Extensions in Switzerland. Also in 2020 we started with our second Online shop together with Ameeya Cosmetics to bring more lash product brands to our Swiss Stylists.

Setting Yourself Apart From Your Competitors

My #1 strategy

for the past 10 years in business doing eyelash extensions have been customer service. I never knew how handy it would be to have worked so many years in doing retail sales, cold calling and on the phone customer service. Now days it seems to be the bar is set low. If you want to retain the new and old clients, customer service is key!

Focusing on customer service can really leverage your business to a higher level. You can not please everyone, of course, but a little extra effort can go a long way. Respond fast and friendly. I recently had a client text me for a nail technician for the next day, this was around 9pm. I said “I am sorry I don’t know anyone” she was ok with that answer. I told her though I would text a hairstylist I know and soon enough I got her the information.

All it took was an extra minute to text someone and this client has now gained my trust. I love building relationships with my clients. Even though I see them once every couple of weeks, for the past 10 years.

Not once I have seen them outside from work. Still keeping it professional. This doesn’t mean you can’t treat them as friends. You build an emotion that connects to your brand. The emotions you build with people you come across can be positive with your brand and you or a negative emotion.

Hence the reason to establish boundaries, rules and regulations from the beginning. I see it as a two way road.

My second strategy is to do your own thing...

Be a leader not a follower. What works for someone else doesn’t necessary mean it will work for you.

Dare to be different, people tend to pay attention on what stands out more. If you do what everyone else is doing, don’t be surprised to have clients going in and coming out!

You want to be unforgettable, then you need to show them how different you are from the crowd.

Like that famous saying says” If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten”

Third strategy to use is try something new.

Rethink, take it apart then put it back together. You can bend the rules, or if you’re brave enough break them! Don’t get stuck on ‘we’ve always done it that way’. That is how new inventions come from.

Constant change is necessary for all business in order to succeed.

Products and services evolve constantly. We need to get used to be uncomfortable.

People ask me - “What else do you do?” My reply is the same for the past 10 years ; I respond - “Only eyelash extensions” - with a smile.

Fourth strategy to use is to learn from the people who came before you.

When I first learned how to do eyelash extensions, I had previously learned to do permanent makeup. I was studying to be an Aesthetician as well.

This implied me learning in to doing facials, waxing, makeup, you name it. I found a place where I soon started working, dedicated to only doing eyelash extensions.

I had never seen such a place.

A year later my business model was eyelash extensions only shop!

I learned from the pioneer in eyelash extensions in my town and followed her model. I still get that question “What else do you do?”

My reply is the same for the past 10 years “Only eyelash extensions” with a smile. Have not looked back since.

Don’t get me wrong I am very passionate about skincare, but lashes stole my heart!

LASH UP - The Colourful Future “We put colour in our hair, clothes, and nails, then why not eyelashes?”

Although having been in the eyelashes designing industry for four years, Tiffany Nguyen has gained her reputation within her career with many significant achievements. She was the honoured judge of many beauty competitions worldwide.

Including the GALA PMU Universe 2019 in Vietnam, the L&L Battle Lash Championship United Kingdom 2020, and the SPRIN’s International Championship 2020 in Thailand.

In 2021, Tiffany will be the Speaker & Trainer in Visagio Beauty Academy in Germany and the Judge for Kingdom Beauty Crown Championship in London.

She is also the founder of MILash Beauty Academy company and has been training students from the U.S. and many other countries.

Tiffany developed her very own path in designing eyelashes. Her reputation lies within the intricate techniques of Hybrid and Wispy.

Hybrid is believed to be a significant revolution in the eyelashes industry that would satisfy even the pickiest customer.

It is a combination of classic and volume lashes that can express the highlight of the eyes while retaining the natural element of the eyelashes.

This foundation of Hybrid lashes has become the inspiration for Tiffany’s signature Wispy design.

Understanding the ever going need for the beauty of her customers.

Tiffany emphasized the fashionable and the convenience element in her Wispy eyelashes.

Wispy is developed based on Hybrid’s foundation and typical eyelashes strip that can be found in any department stores. The spikes on the Wispy create a striking feature that distinguishes it from any other eyelash technique.

The difference in the length of each lash from the spikes gives out an eye-catching, layering effect that will guarantee you to have at least one friend asking, “Where did you get those lashes from?”. The fact that Wispy will last up to 5 weeks without having the wearers taking them off every night like regular eyelashes strip is a cherry on top of the cake.

Unlike the black lashes tradition, Tiffany believed that there should be more room for creativity in the eye fashion design.

As someone who was brought up in Vietnam for 25 years, she was fascinated by the cultural idea that everybody has their very own destined colour, which will bring them luck and happiness.

“We put colour in our hair, clothes, and nails, then why not eyelashes?” – Tiffany shared. Wispy’s unique pattern has allowed her to explore every potentiality in taking eyelashes design to another level.

Many people nowadays are gradually enchanted by the idea of having the colour of their lashes to match their hair and nails or even a special occasion such as Christmas or Thanksgiving.

In the era of COVID-19, where the masks have become a critical accessory, make-up lovers feel the need to put more emphasis on the eyes and have their lashes colour matches their face masks.

We never thought of colourizing our nails and hair in the past until we saw somebody else did it.

Tiffany sees eyelashes fashion the same way, and she has been one of the most famous pioneers in designing colour eyelashes. She believed that we are the ones to shape our trend and future, and she would dedicate her skills and career to accommodate the beauty needs of her beloved customers.

MlLash Beauty Academy has been Tiffany’s pride and hope.

She and her team have been working hard every day to contribute to the growth of her company, and they believed that MILash Beauty Academy has the potential of expanding to a global level.

A lot of women are allergic to pads and micro-pore tape, so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t recommend them.

The eyepads are used to separate the lower lashes from upper ones, so that they do not stick to the lower ones and that the eye can be opened after the treatment.

In my opinion, the original eyepads are not the best solution, because they are very thin, which increases the feeling of pressure of the tweezers during isolation and creates pain for the client. They contain hydrating gel and there is a possibility of spilling the gel into the eye. They are also quite transparent, which means that natural lashes are less visible, in turn prolongs eye strain in an attempt to isolate natural lashes, damages vision and increases dioptres.

I’m not even for micro-pore tape because it’s sharp, so if it’s placed too deep in the eye, it can cut the cornea and temple. Since it is narrow, one side must overlap the other and when we isolate the lashes, the tweezers get stuck to the joint, which irritates the client and creates discomfort for the technician, and therefore pays less attention to where she keeps the tweezers.

A lot of women are allergic to pads and micro-pore tape, so that’s one of the reasons why I don’t recommend them.

Microfoam tape is therefore the ideal solution. It’s made (as the name suggests) of foam.

It’s bit thicker than pads and micro-pore, which prevents the client from hurting if we press the tweezers harder. The fact that it’s thicker is its advantage because it „fits“ better in the eye of client who naturally can’t close it completely and that prevents glue vapours from entering the eye.

Another advantage is that it can be cut exactly by the eye for both the inner and outer corner.

It’s anti-allergic so that even allergic clients do not have reaction to it.

One of the most important things is that it is white, so you can see even smallest lashes, so there is less possibility of sticking baby lashes.

For the technician, the advantage of witness is that it doesn’t hurts the eye because there is no strain when you isolate the lashes.

Microfoam can’t hurt the eye because of the foam it’s made of and because of thickness.

When you cutting, it is important that the scissors are sharp, that we do not make teeth who can irritate the eye (this is its only flaw) and that it is trimmed in the shape of a crescent, because then it best fit in the inner and outer part of the eye. This reduces the issues around the application of extensions on the parts of the eye that gives technicians the most problems.

My Lash Journey

I came into this business by chance.

Where It All Began In 2007 I was house-hunting. Whilst looking for a house I came across a salon that was available for rent. I had not long been made redundant and was looking for something new to do.

The salon had been closed for around 18 months. It was in the town centre and the rent seemed very low. I was sure it must be a misprint so I arranged to have a viewing. It was a big place with 9 rooms and the price wasn’t a misprint!

So, I arranged a 2nd viewing and I took my friend and a tape measure.

I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to take it on or not as I had no experience in the beauty industry at all. I was looking to be nosey really.

A few days later, the estate agent called me and said someone had put in an offer on the salon and would I like to put one in too.

I put in a silly low offer and thought the other people would get it.

I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to take this on, but half an hour later they rang me back to say my offer had been accepted. It’s like it was meant to be.

I was a bit shocked and then panic started to set in. Then I thought ‘well the rent is so cheap that it’s a no-brainer really’. I spent 6 months gutting the place and fitting it out. Then I found staff and opened in 2008.

After a couple of months, I realised that I could do some of the treatments myself. So, I booked on a few courses and started working in the salon doing treatments. I ended up doing 40+ courses over the years.

My Love Affair with Lashes I started my lash journey in 2010. Lash extensions were just becoming big news in the UK and I had spent the most part of 2009 researching and looking for a company to train with. I finally picked a company and booked my training for January 2010.

I fell in love with lashing and wanted to do it all the time. Before I knew it, I had a full column and a waiting list! I did my classic training with a few companies and then in 2014 I trained in volume lashing and have done more courses since.

Although I did other treatments, lashing was what I spent most of my time on.

I lived, breathed and dreamt lashes and all my spare time was spent researching and joining forums to chat with other lash techs and to learn more. I was like a sponge soaking up as much information as I could.

As time progressed, so did the lash industry. There were always new products coming out and also new ways to do things. I learned that we should be washing our clients lashes before every infill and new set. So, I sourced a lash cleanser and decided I would give kits to my clients with every new set booked. When they ran out, they could buy more product from me.

Setting Up My Online Business I always wanted to have my own line of products and I actually bought the domain name for Lash Factor back in 2012. It was a dream then though and I never expected to get to where we are today. However, once I saw that other lash techs were trying to source lash cleanser too, I approached the company that manufactured the one I used. They agreed to let me become the exclusive UK distributor of their product. This was the beginning of my journey into distributing and when Lash Factor was born.

Before long, I sourced foamer bottles, lash cleansing brushes, mascara spoolies and more; my inventory had started to grow.

Initially, my family would help me to pack orders whilst I continued to run the salon. This worked well for a while, but as I added more and more products it was getting harder and harder to run 2 businesses.

Fortunately, my family ramped up their support, helping in their spare time and on weekends. In 2018 one of my daughters came to work for me full-time and she co-ordinates everything from office work to distribution. t wasn’t long before I was struggling so much with doing 2 jobs.

I would spend all day at the salon with my clients and then I would get home and speak to suppliers, order stock and arrange deliveries. Not to mention, I was also helping other techs with any questions they had, not just about products, but about lashing in general.

I have a lot of lash techs that message me and ask for advice and help. I am more than happy to help when I can, but at that time in my journey I was struggling for time and it became apparent that something had to give.

I couldn’t keep on running 2 businesses and working the long hours that I did. To start with, I tried reducing my hours at the salon but I was only able to give each business 50% and I always want to give my all. So, in 2016 I made the decision to close my salon.

It was sad at the time, but it was absolutely the right decision for me. Now I could give 100% to Lash Factor. I continued to use the salon building to work from until December 2019.

Growing My Brand In 2015 I did the first Lash Factor Christmas competition. I run it every year and it has always been free to enter. It is hugely popular and again this gets my brand out there. In 2018 I started the Lash Pack. This is a subscription for lash techs and they pay a monthly fee and then every 3 months they get a pack full of lash goodies sent to them. This is great advertising and it gets your products direct into the hands of the people who will use them and talk about them. We have had great success with it and has helped increase our sales I also became a senior journalist for Lash Inc. magazine and this got my products out to lots of potential customers.

In 2018 I became a distributor for Elleebana and also did my trainer training with them. Being such a popular brand, the stock took up a lot of room. In August 2019 I became a distributor for Mayamy and Bronsun products from Innovator Cosmetics. Demand for these brands is also high and our space was quickly filling up. We inquired about exclusivity in the UK and Ireland but because we didn’t offer training

Owning a Small, Growing Business Having your own brand and distributing is very rewarding and I love my job. However, it is very hard work and lots of long hours. There are also so many products coming out all the time too. I only sell quality products and a lot of my time is spent sourcing and testing them. Once we find a product we have to design packaging and work out costings. Then we have to get them listed on the CPNP and make sure all the labelling is in line with all the EU regulations etc.

The work is never ending and it is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

I also am a lash judge and I judge a lot of competitions here in the UK and also abroad.

We have lots of plans for next year and we have to keep on our toes as there are constantly new brands coming out.

Every time I think I can breathe for a bit, something else comes along and fills my time. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Lots of people have asked me how I got into the industry and how I got to where I am today, so I hope this will answer their questions.

Then 6 months later they phoned me out of the blue to say that they were so impressed with our sales that they wanted to offer us exclusivity. This meant that we got busier still and soon all the rooms in my salon were bursting at the seams; we desperately needed new premises. We found a warehouse with some offices and there was even a big room upstairs that we could use as a training room. I did my PTLLS course at college in 2011 so I could get trainers in and also train students myself.

We moved into the new premises in January 2020 and as we kept growing the training room soon became an extension of the warehouse.

We sell quite a few brands now, as well as our own, and we had only been at the new premises for a few months when we realised that we needed even more space. So, we are now looking around for units to rent. We are just about to take on another brand too, so more space is a necessity. Next year we will start with our training and have trainers up and down the country. We will also be providing a white label service and people will be able to get a wide range of products from us with their own label on.

People always ask me how to go about setting your own brand up. I would say that you need to know your market well. You have to be focused and be prepared to work incredibly hard. You need to know that you will make mistakes along the way.

That’s fine though as we always learn from our mistakes. You will test a lot of different products and this is a costly venture. Even if you find a product you like and place an order, that doesn’t mean that you will get the same quality as you got from your samples.

Missing Pictures

Wrong angle:

Both - in the close-ups and in the pictures of the whole face, unfortunately, people often not pay attention to the correct angle. What should you pay attention to here?

In the close-up, it is important that the model does not look up too much (you would see too much of the white part of the eye and also the extensions appear much longer as they are). Tell your model to look straight.

It should also not be photographed too much from the side, so that the judges can easily see the inner and outer corners. For the pictures that show the whole face, it is important not to photograph from an oblique angle, but really straight from the front. The judges must be able to see the symmetry here. Also very important here is good and even lighting. For example, if one half of the face is more in shadow, it is much harder to judge symmetry (and also to see details).

Poor lighting:

Again and again I see images that are quite poorly lit. Yet good lighting is really incredibly important. Try to have as much light as possible.

If you don’t have enough daylight, use your work lamps ( ring light, Glamcor, etc. ). A professional softbox is also great as an additional light source. Pay special attention to the shadows your light source produces and try to find the best possible lighting angle. This may take some time but is certainly worth it. Ideally, never light the model from below.

Blurry images:

Nowadays, almost every cell phone has the option to set to HD when shooting.

(Otherwise use the highest possible resolution).

You should do this in any case. If your pictures are too blurry, it will be very difficult or impossible to evaluate them correctly. ( You can´t judge what you can´t see )

Missing pictures:

Unfortunately, it often happens that participants of championships do not read the rules thoroughly and as a result do not send in all the requested pictures.

Here there are always different requirements that the respective organizers have, so it is even more important to read the rules well in preparation for each championship.

But which pictures should never be missing as a rule are: one shot of the entire face - both before and after, one shot each of the closed eyes (model is lying and you are shooting from the stylist’s point of view) before and after and one close-up of each eye photographed obliquely from below.

Finally, some general tips about the pictures and the models: Make sure the background is calm and tidy - I’ve evaluated work where the model was photographed on a doubled and there was also a full laundry basket next to her on the bed - not really ideal.

Ask your model to put on a “neat” top - a worn out, yellowed shirt doesn’t make a good impression and even if it’s primarily about eyelashes, such things will always ( although sometimes subconsciously ) factor into the ratings.

Then I often see pictures where the model looks like someone is standing on her foot - a friendly smiling model has a much more positive effect on the judges.

Try to choose your model in such a way that you don’t have to compensate for too many asymmetries - you’ll make life unnecessarily difficult for yourself. Models with other types of “problematic eyes” should be avoided whenever possible.

With most models, it looks much better if you take the pictures of the whole face while the model is sitting or standing. If you photograph this while the model is lying down, it will not look optimum in many cases. Give it a try ;) If you think you have taken ( good ) pictures from all perspectives, give your model something to drink, maybe a piece of cake and then really look through your pictures thoroughly - is everything as it should be? Is there a loose eyelash somewhere that you overlooked while taking the picture?

Are all the lashes in order, or do they need to be brushed again, because here and there an eyelash marches to a different drummer?

Often you see such things only afterwards and if the model is already on the way home then, this is more than annoying.

If the permanent makeup is applied by a licensed, well-educated technician who knows how to choose the best techniques, design your makeup and uses the correct pigment colors, the result should appear very natural

Is it safe?

Yes, it is absolutely safe if: You have a technician that is: licensed and well educated (certified);, licensed by the Health Department (if applicable); has a business license; current with their Blood Born Pathogen (BBP) education which in most states is required to be taken yearly; follows all of OSHA and CDC guidelines for cross contamination; uses only singles, sterile, one time use needles and machine parts as well as all the products and they are properly disposed of after the procedure that follows Personal hygiene Protocol.

Technician must use FDA approved pigments, as well as disposables needles and supplies for each procedure.

What’s involved in the process of 3D Brows?

The initial consultation will be scheduled prior to an actual appointment. During the consultation interview, I will examine their facial structure along sketching the eyebrow shape and color that suitable to the client’s face. Also, I will recommend which Semi Permanent Eyebrow Techniques would be suitable to their skin type. The client needs to sign the consent and release form, a medical history and acknowledge of the Pre and Post Care instructions. The skin test will be taken and I also explain any contraindications that may have in the permanent makeup procedure.

On the procedure day, I will design the eyebrow shape, check for the symmetry and pick color that match with the client’s eyebrow hair. Then follow the shape to perform the 3D Brow technique to create a super natural stunning, beautiful, define and bluffy looking brows.

How long does the 3D Brows last?

How long does the procedure take?

If the technique is applied correctly (insert into the epidermis layer of skin), the pigments used are high quality and the client follows their aftercare exactly as prescribed by their technician, the procedure application will last.

Plan to schedule at least 1 ½ to 2 hours for the procedure. It may take longer depending on the condition and hydration of the skin, pain threshold, anxiety level and on any medication or homeopathics that would make the skin bleed.

Anaesthesia will be placed on the procedure area for approximately 15-20 minutes. The procedure area will be drawn on and the implantation of pigments should take approximately 30-45 minutes. The colour refresher appointment will be quicker as I only needs to work on the area that need to be fine tuned.

Influence such as your general health, chlorine, sun, tanning beds, medication, skin care products containing exfoliating agents, the use of a total sun block on the procedure area, and the smoking can affect the longevity of the pigment colour.

Is the procedure painful?

Pain is relative. I use the most effective topical anaesthesia available. I use a pre-anaesthesia, a drop of liquid numb ‘Ultra Duration’ in the pigment and once the skin is open, I use the ‘Magic’ anaesthesia. Using these 3 anaesthetics together most people are very comfortable during application.

If the client is anxious or tense during the procedure, they will fell more discomfort. In this instance, we suggest contacting their health care provider for an anti-anxiety medication. And if the client takes any medication, they should have a driver to take them to and from the procedure. There are also several homeopathic remedies that will calm you. I usually use essential oils as well to make the procedure more tolerable.

Furthermore, there are several things to consider prior to your procedure: such as no caffeine, no alcohol, do not schedule your appointment around your menstrual period cycle as all of these make you more sensitive.

If the client already had a traditional artistic tattoo or have piercing, they will find that permanent makeup is easier to tolerate than these procedures.

Some say tweezing their eyebrows is more painful than have permanent makeup.

Will it be swollen?

Each individual will react differently depends on their skin type. Person with very sensitive skin will be a little swollen or redness around the eyebrow and will go away after few hours.

Are there any contraindications for 3D Brow procedure?

Yes, if you are under physician’s care, we want you to obtain a release written on their prescription note pad stating that it is safe for you to have a procedure performed.

Your health care provider will know if you will heal without any complications or if you are prone to infections or have a compromised immune system.

Contraindications include but not limited to: blood thinners heart medications, aspirin or products containing aspirin, medications for any disease like diabetes, lupus, or any autoimmune disease.

Also any vitamins or supplements that thin the blood would need to be stopped prior to the procedure but only with the consent of your health care provider.

Any type of antihistamine will slow down the release of histamine in the procedure are. This serves a two purposes: The antihistamine will lessen the swelling effect on the procedure area making the insertion of pigment easier.

The antihistamine helps many people to relax and fall asleep during the procedure.

Always consult with your health care provider before taking any medication. If you take any medication, do not drive to or from your procedure, but have someone to drive you.

What will I look like after my procedure?

Depending on how many tunes we had to go over an area to implant the pigment your skin may show very little signs of trauma or may be swollen and red.

If you have to taken an antihistamine, your swelling will be less than if you have not taken any medication. You may notice swelling for 24-48 hours.

You can ice the area for 10 minutes and then follow with heat for 10 minutes several times a day.

This will bring the swelling down after.

The area will appear darker at first because if the blood and lymph that has been brought to the surface during the 3D Brow technique application.

The procedure area tissue will crust a bit and this tissue will slough off usually within 10-15 days leaving the skin with a softer colour.

The healing process depends on how healthy you are and how hydrated your skin is. The younger you are the faster you will heal and if you are older, your skin will take longer to regenerate.

All of this is required to explained during the consultation appointment and repeat again on the colour refresh appointment as well.

If you have an event to attend, its best to have the procedure done at least 8 weeks prior the event!

Healing process Day 1-4, Eyebrow appear darker, bolder and solid. Minimal swelling will occur and the top skin layers will shed within 4-7 days. This results in a loss of colour which is normal, so do not pick or scratch.

Day 5-10, Eyebrow will begin to itch and pigment appear raised Day 10-15, skin is naturally beginning to exfoliate itself and shed. Colour will appear light, Day 30-40, tattoo is now part of the dermis layer and is healed.

True colour is visible after 28 days Note that the pigment may get rejected from the body thus resulting in a even lighter colour, If this occurs, touch ups may be determined.

Eyebrow before care: Do no work out the day of the procedure Do not tan or have sunburn face No waxing or tinting 3 days before the procedure Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Ibuprofen 24 hours before the procedure No alcohol or caffeine on the day of the procedure Please note that you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle.

Eyebrow Aftercare: Dry healing is the best. No water and do not sweat.

Your hand must be clean when touching the area or using Q-Tip. After the procedure, use Q-tip cleaning the treatment area with distilled water every 4-5 hours.

Do not rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off.

Picking can cause scaring.

Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 3-4 weeks after the procedure.

Avoid heavy sweating for the first 10 days.

No facial, botox, chemical treatments and microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.

Avoid sleeping on your face.

I prefer to use only the petroleum as it is non-reactive on the skin, Using Neosporin, bacitracin or other products may cause an allergic reaction on open skin. If client experiences any redness, irritation or pain, stop using the product and contact the technician immediately for further advises.

3D Brow procedure is NOT recommended for any clients who are or have: Pregnant or nursing Diabetic Chemotherapy (consult with the doctor) Viral infection and ?or disease Epilepsy Pacemaker or major heart problems Organ transplant Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes , sunburn, acne, etc..)

Sick (cold, flu, etc..)

Botox in the past 2 months Accutane in the past year

Long term care: Use good sunscreen on your eyebrows if you plan to be in the sun for prolonged periods of time.

Sun exposure will fade your permanent cosmetic procedure.

If you are planning a chemical peel, lase procedure or an MRI scan, please inform the technician of your permanent cosmetics.

The use of Retin-A/Tretinoin in any other rapid skin exfoliation products used regularly on the forehead area will cause the permanent makeup to the eyebrow area to fade prematurely.

The use of chemical peels and acid peels regularly on the forehead region can also cause eyebrow tattoos to fade prematurely, A touch up is recommended 1-3 months after the initial procedure due to many factors that can affect the pigment retention. Then annually colour refreshing afterward.

Steps for 3D brow 1. Always follow the BBP Protocol, put on clean gown, mask and glows and sanitized all the working area and equipment with the Lysol wipes.

2. Clean the treated area with alcohol swab 3. Take picture of the eyebrow before the procedure.

4. Design the eyebrow shape and chose up to 2-3 colour pigments which will be suitable for the client’s facial structure and skin tone. Make sure to check the symmetry and the client signed off the consent form on agreement with the procedure.

5. Using single needle to open the skin and applied the numb solution “Ultra Duration� with a micro-brush.

Leave it for 5-10 minutes and prepare the pigments while waiting.

6. Stretch the skin the on the part that you are working on and adjust your hand position for the right parameters and it may vary with different angle between 45-90 degree base on the area for better penetration of the needles and colour release.

7. Create a define hair-line strokes starting from the head of brows to tail within the eyebrow shape has been designed.

8. Clean the area with gauze after defining the boundaries for both eyebrow. Reapply the numbing solution during procedure.

9. Slow hand movement with a medium to high machine speed are required to implant more pigment into skin. Sometimes, it needs to perform the back and forth movement, push movement (same direction) or released movement (opposite direction) of the hair-line strokes in order to implant the pigments into the skin evenly.

10. After completed creating all the hair-line strokes, you use the lighter shade of the pigment to shade in between the hair strokes with the ombre effect and skip every other hair strokes in order to create the 3D effect looking brow.

11. After finished the second eyebrow, clean the brow with pamper sensitive wipes and apply more Ultra Duration.

12. Double check the eyebrows with the clients to make sure they are symmetrical and the result turn out perfectly.

13. Take pictures of the after procedure.

14. Before the client leaves, apply thin layer of Numpot, Aquaphor, or Cavilon to seal open wounds.

IDEA

It all starts with an idea, an idea that sometimes seems to be the most irrational thing we’ve ever thought of. Why me?

After all, there are other larger companies that reign in the market.

I’m afraid that I do not have enough strength to start. It will not work for sure. That was in my head as soon as i started to think about my brand as something bigger, until one day I came across a quote from Swami Vivekananda that cleared all my doubts and helped me decide it’s time to do something.

The quote said: “Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. The idea is nothing more than ignition , but one of the most important aspects is the preparation itself. A great business plan is essential, and that’s where you should start. Each brand is named somehow. Your name, favourite word, or whatever you like.

Consider if it is appropriate and catchy.

This will be the first step in attracting a customer to get attention. The beauty is in simplicity, do not push yourself into something that is unnecessary, focus on the most important products without which your potential customer will not be able to survive.

Lash adhesive, eyelashes, eye pads, tweezers, brushes are the way to go. Since you are working in the industry, you know what is necessary to do this job and these are the products that should represent your brand at the beginning. Everything else will come with time. Just be patient. Invest in what’s the most important. But to do that, you have to find the right product and that’s where the real fun begins.

TESTING

“Testing a product is a learning process” - Brian Marick Well said. By testing products from different manufacturers, we learn what we really want, because who does not dream that their brand is the best on the market? You need to be patient though.

Days,weeks,sometimes even months. This is how much time you need to invest in testing.

Find that quality, be sure about it and keep in mind that there’s no other way than quality over price. We all know that quality is the factor that will make customers come back to you, so get to work.

There are so many manufacturers and it’s difficult to determine where to start and don’t even think about giving up now. The journey may be tough, but it is certainly rewarding.

Most of the products used in the eyelash industry come from Asia, which is associated with a fairly long waiting time for samples – sometimes it takes up to 6-8 weeks to receive couple of them, so I would recommend to order from several manufacturers at the same time as it will significantly reduce the time to make a decision which products are best for you.

Social Media - Huge Impact on Quality in Beauty Industry

F irst of all, I would like to start this article and state that all opinions are based on my own private experience, are non bias and are expression of thoughts. My thoughts.

Ok, now that I fully “washed” any possible shame caused by my stated opinions, we can continue.

Social media! *”SM” Huge, increasingly important platform brought to us slowly for the last 15 years.

At 1st I was very cautious in usage but as a young business owner surrounded by many of similar kind, I decided to use it as a number 1 ally.

Why ally? Because Social Media, organ, as I like to call it, brought equal good and bad things to my attention.

What I’m going to touch in this article is huge difference in offer, quality and recognition in itself. How come SM (*social media) drastically lowered and raised bars in all industries, especially in mine: Nail Industry.

As someone who pays attention on lots of things around me, starting this career almost decade ago, I realized that SM can definitely help You to raise above any given or deserved line.

We are being attacked, swamped by YT stars, IG influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers and yet, having zero to minus knowledge in what they preach.

W ho are the people You like to be followed by and what nails You aim to do ? Would You, as a young artist/stylist/technician would like to be follow by hundreds of thousands of fans who do their 9 to 5 jobs in some offices or would you like to be followed by hundred technicians who learn from you and your videos on daily basis?

Where is the line?

You,I, we users and followers are the ones to change this.

Start pointing at wrong things, names, structures and work every day in order to push correct names on the top of the line.

Start investing in educators with great skills not influencers with good cheques deposited.

Graphic design and the path you will take to communicate with your customers are VERY important aspects and can be a long term assets for your business.

When starting a business especially from your passion or profession it is very difficult to weigh the importance of certain business aspects.

But ,for sure, a very important segment straight from the beginning is marketing; Who are my customers? Where are they?

How do I reach them? Once you found and identified them you need to find a communication path and a place where your interactions will lead to desired outcomes - customer satisfaction and profit for your business.

In this article I will try to explain some of the questions you need to answer and different business routes or options you can take in this day and age - in this virtual era - depending on a size, type and nature of your business.

Graphic design is the way of communication between you - your business and your customers. There are two most important questions when thinking about graphic design that leads to - brand and business identity.

As for the business owner - the question is: how does he\she perceives and value his\ hers business and a brand? - and from a customer perspective - how does he/she recognize the value and the image of the business?

The ultimate goal is to transfer your passion through services and goods to your customers who will then cherish your vision and identify with your image. With that in mind - you need to know your customers really well to be able to choose the route you will go with your business.

Adapt, rethink, relaunch. Our business survival testimony during pandemic times This 2020 has undoubtedly been a peculiar year. For many small business owners it brought struggle and an eventual loss after quarantine orders modified our daily routines which caused sales to drop dramatically. No one ever thought it was going to last this long,

nor did we imagine our income sources would be hit the way they have been.

The business I started 12 years ago is now gone. Aloha Salon & SpaTM had to be put down after many happy and successful years of service and even when it was difficult and painful to say goodbye to all our effort and hard work, it was also an opportunity to open our minds and evolve in order to create something new, something better.

Warren Buffett once said that “in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks”, which applies perfectly well to our mindset after having to face the hard truth of not being able to continue with our salon. Instead of focusing on the loss and clinging hard onto the idea of keeping it no matter what, we focus our attention on adapting to this “new normal”. Everything was happening online so, if we wanted to succeed, we have to rethink sales, publicity, products, services and approaches.

That is how our current business was, sort of, reborn. Kona Lashes & BrowsTM was originally created as our brand of lash extensions products which we used to offer at the salon and through a few friends and clients, but that was it. I was offering trainings at the salon and sometimes at another small venue to very few trainees, once a month.

When things were starting to grow, product sales were increasing and more and more people were interested in taking our courses, we were on a speed track, I felt super excited and proud of everything my husband and I were achieving as a team, we had worked so hard on the salon and brand, and it was finally paying off! So it was, until March 2020, when we were hit with the hard news, we were going into what originally was established as a 15 day lockdown. It wasn’t going to be that long, we thought that we would be able to go back to our regular working schedules and business would keep on running in no time. Oh boy, were we wrong!

To make a long story short, we ended up closing the salon for good and rescheduling trainings, offering our trainees the chance to take them online. We didn’t expect to have such good response from people, but we did! They wanted to take the courses even if it was at a distance, so it was time to rethink and adapt once more.

And so, Kona InstituteTM, an idea that had been running in my head for quite some time already, was finally becoming a reality. As it has always been, my supportive and loving husband was on the boat and ready to row way before I took the leap. He encouraged my idea and has helped through it all.

I also got great advice from some very dear friends who happen to be expert colleagues who aided me in creating and adapting teaching materials, producing better manuals and planning online sessions with personalized follow-ups and updates.

Now, in addition to selling our products and having distributors all around Mexico, we are an officially recognized academy, with many Lash Master Trainers certified by us!

I must confess there were days when I felt heartbroken, devastated and defeated. I was giving up and cried rivers for both, the loss of my beloved salon and the struggle it meant to start anew, but on the long run it was all worth it. I realized this was just another sign from the universe inviting me to evolve, to improve myself and go beyond any mental barriers. Tough times are there to teach us, it is up to us to either suffer through them and perish, or grow wiser, stronger and better than we were before.

Change your vision, we all have the power to achieve great things! I am convinced, I am living proof of that!

Do we live an ethical life? Do we believe that ethics are important? Are they also important for the beauty industry?

Let’s take a brief look at ethics and the importance for our life and business.

By understanding the importance of ethics, we can make better decisions, whether we are doing so in our personal or professional life.

Defining what ethics are is not as easy as we might think. If we ask 10 different people, they would probably give you 10 different definitions. At the most basic level, we can define ethics as being what are “acceptable” and “proper” actions of a person.

However, this is difficult to do because what is acceptable and proper to one person might not be acceptable and proper to someone else. To look at this in a different way, we can say that ethics is the study of what is wrong and what is right. Some people spend their entire lives studying ethics, yet we still have difficulties coming up with a universal definition.

What does being ethical mean to you? Even a universal definition of ethics is difficult to create, though we can generally all agree that ethics are important. In fact, being ethical is to most people, a requirement of being a functioning member of society. Our personal ethics govern our actions and without ethics, each action would be aimless and random.

We would be unable to work towards any of our goals, as we would have no gauge to decide what a goal would be. Even when we have some type of ethical standard, we can still have issues with this. For many, answering question about ethics, leads to more questions than answers.

To really understand the importance of ethics for professionals, it is imperative that we understand different elements that go into it. The basic foundation of ethics can be defined as a stand and of values that we can use to determinate our actions, values and goals.

Ethics satisfies our basic human needs make sure you are honest and fair with your colleagues and clients. We and our customers to treat us well and in return, we should treat them well too. This satisfies our basic human need to be treated with fairness.

Being ethical makes us credible - when we are running our business by high moral values we are more respected by others in society. Clients are more likely to trust people and businesses that they deem as ethical.

Ethics unite us with others. This is very important for business as we are able to build stronger relationships with customers who have similar ethical beliefs.

Ethics improves our ability to make decisions - we are better able to make important decisions when we understand the ethics behind these decisions. Make sure that you are making decisions in line with what is right.

Ethics breeds success - research shows us that ethical people and businesses are overall more successful in the long term, when compared to those seen as unethical.

Ethics make us safer - ethics controls everything from the medical care we get to our public safety laws. Clients expect the same when they open the doors of your beauty salon.

Now we have a pretty good view of what ethics are and why they are important for your business, including how their rules play in our day to day lives.

“ I was tired, true, but my company had built up so much momentum,

how could I stop now? And it’s just stress, so what?”

Anja Trish “My struggle with MS while balancing stressed work life” I had just spoken at my very first conference in Mexico, and it was overwhelming. I had never had so many people wanting to take pictures with me or applauding me. It was amazing! However, I had a heartbreaking secret behind the whirlwind of success.

I was traveling on a small plane to another beautiful place in Mexico to teach. Everything was arranged by ladies from Mexico.

They had arranged to fly myself, other speakers, and other teachers from around the globe to places in order to teach courses that they had pre-arranged for us. Here I was rubbing elbows with international Lash gods, women that I had looked up to since I started Lashing over six years ago.

The plane ride was the most turbulent any of us had ever been on. We were terrified and making jokes at the same time. I don’t know if it was the terror or the closeness felt between us, but I told them my secret. I had never uttered the words before then. I think if I did, it would make them true or something, “I have something in my brain, and I don’t want to leave my loved ones yet.”. Looking back, the poor gal I disclosed this to was probably floored at my confession.

I had been declining for a while, having weird neurological symptoms even as a vet tech—anything from spastic muscles, seizures, and eye issues. I kept going to the doctors, and they kept telling me, “you’re stressed and depressed, you’re a new entrepreneur starting your business, and you need to rest.” I was tired, true, but my company had built up so much momentum, how could I stop now?

And it’s just stress, so what? I was used to working hard. That was one of my favourite qualities. I had an intense work ethic. I went full speed ahead. I fell asleep at any moment I wasn’t in the act of doing something. At stoplights, at dinner, in the tub, and even when getting Botox. Thank god for the Botox doctor; they knew something was up. I was too fatigued for just ‘stress.’ The doctor brought up my MRI results, which stated “no significant findings,” and saw a legion immediately, I saw it too, and instead of feeling fear, it was more like relief. I was not crazy; there was something undeniably wrong.

It was missed. A lot of things get missed, I guess. I had an appointment with a neurologist about six months later and finally received a diagnosis last year.

Now, symptoms over the last two years were getting worse. A walker and sometimes a wheelchair was needed. There were days where getting out of bed was impossible. Most of my friends and clients did not understand. A lot of them moved along, which was heartbreaking.

I was still traveling a lot, speaking at conferences, hiding my illness from colleagues, pretending to be happy and healthy.

I often wore sneakers with my dresses, took naps in between working, tried to get good nutrition, but it felt like I was encased in concrete.

This could not be the way the rest of my life is going to be. I wasn’t ready to give up to MS (Multiple Sclerosis). The medication that I was taking for MS was making the symptoms worse, yet my neurologist was happy pushing these. I had to do my own research. I had to fight.

Along came HSCT, I knew instantly that this was going to be the ticket. How was I going to pay for it? Where was I going to have the procedure done? How would I get there?.....well, I’d figure that out later.

A stem-cell transplant is where they take your stem-cells from your blood after they have given you shots twice a day to get the cells out of your bones. You undergo intense chemotherapy to totally destroy your old immune system, then they put the harvested stem-cells back into your body, so it can grow you a new immune system. MS causes your immune system to attack your nerves. It made sense to me that this would work.

My friends and family helped me with donations and fundraisers.

We had raised $35,000 out of the $73,000 needed to go to the clinic in Mexico, and the bank loaned me the remainder.

I could have gotten it in Canada if I wanted to wait 5-8 years, and there is no way I had that kind of time. The Stem-cell transplant was scheduled for May 2020, however, now COVID-19 was looming, and the clinic had to close for a few months. It felt like I was climbing huge obstacles, now I had to schedule a new date, but it happened for August 2020. A letter was issued from the clinic, making it possible to travel during the pandemic, and I crossed my fingers that the flights wouldn’t get cancelled.

It finally happened. I went to Mexico in a walker full time, with no balance but a hopeful heart. The thirty-day treatment was gruelling but worth it. I had regained my balance and haven’t used a walker since coming home. The clinic tells you not to work for six months after the treatment, but you know I’m a bit of a rule-breaker sometimes. Lashing is my meditation or Yoga, it was three weeks since coming home, and I was back at it.

It has now been a little over four months since treatment, and it’s a long road to recovery.

Do I know if the treatment worked? Yes, I know it like I know the sun rises every day, even if we don’t see it. I also know that there is something one hundred times better coming our way for every awful thing we go through.

2020 was a crazy year, with so many jobs lost, broken homes, and uncertainty. Knowing what I know now, 2021 will be an amazing year. I am very hopeful!

Follow the dream

Hello everyone. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m the CEO of International Beauty Academy in Thailand and Germany This is My first reward at the first competition Fantasy Lash Art on Paper, its the first place but I had special publishing in Lash Inc.Croatia Magazine full page from Maja Kiprovska ,that made me so proud.

Lash Art on Paper

My theme is autumn and spring my inspiration from flower and colourful, !! Think outside the box!!

Its fantasy lash art, I recommend to use at least 3 colours lashes And also do not forget to lashing bottom lashes and decorations on them!

I used pink blue purpure sky blue and yellow for spring, red green yellow and purpure for autumn, I made lash decorations flowers and body paint, I make lash red Lash and pink colours for birds.

In this is covid-19 pandemic, I decided to do Thai style mask for this competition.

But most importantly I want to remind all to follow all the rule and criteria!! And if you do online competition make sure you get good camera for high quality HD (Hight Definition) picture.

My second fantasy lash art on paper competition is Halloween theme! So much fun. I so enjoyed it. I won 2nd place VIP lash art 2020 To be honest, I have less than 2 weeks to prepared it! I was rushing but I do check all the rules and criteria again to make sure everything fit all the rules.

I got 2nd place winner of the VIP lash art 2020 and I have short time for prepare this competition and I have to hurry do it but I didn’t forget to check rule and criteria.

I start to prepare colours lash and lash decorations, I use pink purpure sky blue yellow and blue colours, And paint body with many colours, I use latex skin for scars, I make lash decorations for hair and earring.

I draw little cat and house on the eyelids, every competition I do I put all my energy and idea. Just follow the dream.
