Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Have a great month!

June

2020

Love of a DAD Many poems have been written to explain, how a mother’s love can soothe the pain. But little has been said about a Father’s concern, so now I think it must be his turn. A father’s love for his offspring, is just like that of a solid gold ring. No matter what, it is unending, never breaking, though sometimes bending. His love is as strong as a mother’s, although due to his personality, it sometimes doesn’t show. There is no question of how strong or of its lasting....however long. So no matter if his child is good or bad, there is no love stronger, than that of a DAD,

Each month in the newsletter there will be a listing of people celebrating birthdays. I will also list Facebook members in our Southfork Facebook page so please forward to me at pkaygrossi@aim.com the month/day of any birthday.

After an email asking for help for this great endeavor of making “FREE FACE MASKS” for the residents, a group of gracious handy Southfork residents came forward to make face masks for all interested Southfork residents — and approx. “ 125 masks plus “ have been made. In less than a week all of the Face Masks were sewn and delivered during this time of the coronavirus.

Our HOA president, Harry

Gerrish and his wife Barb made the deliveries as fast as they got them and placed them in bags and left at each requestor’s door. We had many offers of cash donations which was really appreciated but not accepted. The Southfork Homeowners Association approved this great project and the FaceMasks were given out “free” to all of the community because of state rules and not being able to find any FaceMasks on the store shelves.

How great was this?

I sure hope no names are missed but got as many as we could remember, and listed below are the angels of Southfork who must be commended for this great project we will never forget.

If we forgot anyone, we are so sorry

and I know many left material with no name and THANK YOU so much.

Here is the list of Southfork Angels who sewed and people who donated material and helped in so many ways..

From Harry’s desk

Guessing there are fewer of us getting a paper copy of the June newsletter, with a bunch going "home" to their "other life". Do not forget that you can still read the latest newsletter on line wherever you are. I hope the weather gets better north of Florida soon and you all had, or will have, a safe trip going and returning.

Speaking of weather, it is never too late to get prepared for the ### season. Previous solutions will probably be somewhat or very different than in the past. No matter where we are, things are certainly different. I am hoping that when things return to something considered "normal" we can share all the new things we as individuals learned to do while isolated. I am also sure that the small groups I have seen in our driveways are learning new things to do. I am also hoping that we are all meeting someone we did not know in our community and making new friends. Praying that all neighbors, friends and families have a happy and safe "summer" wherever you are. Harry Gerrish, HOA President

Is there something you would like as an event or entertainment here in Southfork? It is so hard to come up with something everyone likes or would like to see or hear so we need your help with ideas! Do you want more Games, Pool Parties, Movie Night, Dinners, Fun Day ( when the entire day is for Southfork with many events going on) ending up with a cookout at the pavilion, More entertainers (singers or dancing), Comedians and just what are you looking for and will you attend if we schedule any of these events? Please help us out so we know what to plan for. What can be done in preparing for the Fall when everyone will be back so that we can become like one Happy Family with everyone attending all the many events. Do you like Once a month breakfasts, Ice Cream Truck in the park, Special once a month get togethers at the pavilion, Special funny game nights at the Pavilion with cookouts (ex: golf games using a broom & balloons)? There is so much that can be done……Besides a Christmas Golf Cart parade, Have an Easter parade, Veterans/Memorial day parades and not only Golf Carts, but Cars/Bicycles & Skooters so that all people can be involved and all vehicles decorated. Wouldn’t that be neat with no one being left out? Come on and get your thinking caps on and help with some suggestions. Back a few months ago we did have a survey page to find out more of what you would like here in the community and it was not over whelming at all. We do hear a lot of people say there is nothing to do, well what do you like to do? Let us know! Don’t sit back and not interact and don’t sit back waiting for others to get things started, but we are waiting to hear from all of you. Send any of your ideas to the HOA Activities chairperson, June Sandberg @763-257-2023. HOA Activities hope everyone has a healthy and safe summer! Thanks in advance!

It's that time of year when a lot of the winter snowbirds (retirees from the cold northern US states and Canada) pack up and leave sunny Dade City to go back home for the summer. It is great to keep in touch via email or our home based facebook group to feel like you all are still here and never left. We like for you to know what we are doing here on a daily basis and look forward to hearing from all of you. Sometimes its good news and sometimes it is bad news that is reported but we want you to feel like you never left us and know what is happening here in Florida . So we here who are year round do not dwell on you all leaving us but are already planning for when you get back to Southfork to get us motivated again. Come back ready to party and start the season like you never left it. This was a bad spring for everyone with the COVID-19 hitting everywhere and putting a halt on so many activities but hopefully when you get back that will be all in the past and ready to get started again. Let’s hope the Fall season will be a great one so we can all get together again. So while you are away keep us informed on what is happening up your way. If there is something interesting you see or attend while up North and think it’s something we should be doing here, by all means let us know. Good friends and neighbors never say goodbye, but we do say, safe travels, stay safe, stay healthy and simply say “See you soon”.

Southfork Women’s Club

Since Covid-19 continues to restrict our activities, your officers of the Southfork Women’s Club have decided to do a fund raiser for the month of June.

The club will donate $100 to Day Star Hope Center to continue their service to the needy and we are also asking anyone in the community that would like to help with this project to drop off any food/cash donations to Marcia Alexander or Jackie Morgano. Non-perishable foods can be left outside by our doors. Cash or Check can be placed in an envelope and placed in the drop box on the west side of Marcia's house. Marcia lives at 11018 Mesquite Dr Jackie lives at 11025 Ewing DR Donations are requested by June 1st. Just another reminder , there will be

no meeting in June. Thank you all for support and helping us help all those in need during this difficult time. Marcia Alexander Women’s Club President

What a wonderful Community Southfork is to reside in! Your acts of kindness and thoughtfulness was so much appreciated in the loss of my husband Orion.. The outpouring of love you’ve given has given me the strength and courage to face the difficult days ahead. I am truly grateful and can not thank you enough, Barbara Hall

Southfork residents were out walking and we had to look twice when they were waving to us during the “stay at home” ruling in effect! Did you notice all the hairstyles?

My Granddaddy, My Best Friend Happy Fathers Day to all you Grandfathers The one that is my friend, The one that is my guide. How much I love, and how much I care, Is too much to describe. You’ve always been my hero, You’ve always been me pride. You’ve always given so much love, And shown what’s deep inside. My heart is full of love, And my soul is all delight. You’re the one who sang me to sleep, and whispered nighty night. And everyday I pray to God, I thank him for sending you, Because you’re the one who wrote me the song, And made all my dreams come true!

House across the street On countless days I’d seen him in the sunshine and the rain, mowing his yard, going to work or driving down his lane. Not once had I stopped to say hello or give him the time of day. The man who lived next door to me whom I saw from day to day, I knew nothing of his family, vaguely aware he had a spouse. He was only just a neighbor who lived in the white house, perhaps, someday in the future, I’d take time to greet the man who shared the block with me in the house across the street. A couple of years had come and gone, I kept thinking that I might go over and say hello to him, but the time was never right. It wasn’t until tragedy struck that I even cared to meet the man who died so suddenly in the house across the street. I said a prayer for his family as I watched them drive away, wanting to bring them comfort but not knowing what to say. So let this be a lesson, please take the time to greet the ones who live next door or in the house across the street. All it takes is a smile, a wave or a kind gesture!!!!!!

Special Needs Information The Pasco County Special Needs Program is in place to coordinate the registration, notification, and evacuation of those citizens with physical or mental disabilities or minor health and medical conditions. Registration Registration for the Special Needs Program can be completed through your Home Health Care Agency or Oxygen Provider, Private Care Providers, Physician's Offices, or by contacting Courtney Wildes at the Pasco County Emergency Management Office at 727-847-8137 x 2383. Once you are registered in our database, you or your healthcare representative should renew your application each and every year. Registration does not mean reservation in the shelter. Notification Evacuation notices may be made in several ways. First, we will try to call you ahead of time to let you know we are evacuating residents in your area. We will ask if you want to evacuate and if you will require transportation. Please keep in mind that this notification starts 72 or more hours prior to the arrival of bad weather. This is to ensure we have enough time to safely move citizens. Once the bad weather arrives, we will not be transporting any citizens out of their homes. Please be mindful that not everyone who is registered will be called in every emergency. Home Health Care & Homebound Patients Notify your health agency where you will be during a hurricane and when care can be re-established. Contact your physician if you are homebound, under the care of a physician and do not have a home health agency. Make prior medical arrangements with your physician and register in advance with your local power company if you require respirators or other electric-dependent medical equipment. Check with your supplier about emergency plans if you require oxygen. Remember to take medications, written instructions regarding your care, special equipment and bedding if you evacuate. Register now at 727847-8137 x 2383 with Pasco County Emergency Management is you need assistance in an evacuation Evacuation Evacuation is coordinated with the Emergency Management office working with the School Board, Fire Rescue, and wheelchair transportation companies. When you fill out your registration, it is crucial that you indicate what mode of transportation you will require. You should be prepared to leave your house when the transportation arrives. If you plan to evacuate yourself, know ahead of time where the Special Needs Shelter is located and what route to take to get there. Make sure you bring a companion/caregiver with you, your wheelchair, walker or cane, all necessary medical supplies and prescriptions. You may also want to include any special food or nutritional supplements, a blanket, sleeping bag and pillow, complete change of clothing, personal hygiene items, and books/magazines. The Special Needs Shelter is under the supervision of registered nurses from the Health Department and is staffed by a consulting physician, health professionals from home health care, a consulting mental health professional and volunteers. The shelter provides a safe, secure environment but doesn't take the place of hospitals, assisted living facilities, or long term care facilities.

When we get into thunderstorm situations, especially during the summer months, you may hear Spectrum Bay News 9 meteorologists use the words "watch" and "warning."

    

Thunderstorm "watch" is very different from "warning" What makes a thunderstorm "severe"? There are criteria GET WARNED: Have the Spectrum Bay News 9 app ready when severe weather strikes in case you are without power WEATHER ALERTS: Sign up for our weather text alerts to get watches and warnings as they happen LATEST FORECAST: Satellite loops, current temperatures, county-by-county conditions

They sound similar with respect to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, but actually, they're quite different. When we are placed in a "watch," Spectrum Bay News 9 meteorologists will provide live updates every 10 minutes. You'll also see text scrolling at the bottom of your screen. A "watch" means conditions are favorable for severe weather or tornadoes. This is when you want to make sure you have a plan in place and know where you would go in the event of a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning. A "warning" means a severe thunderstorm or tornado is imminent or occurring, and you need to seek shelter immediately in the safest part of your home. It's best to be in the lowest level, in an interior room or closet, and away from windows and doors until the threat passes.

What makes a thunderstorm "severe"? The textbook definition of a severe thunderstorm is one that has winds of more than 58 mph, or hail 1 inch in diameter or greater, and/or a tornado. Lightning is not taken into consideration for a storm to be severe. All thunderstorms contain lightning. A tornado warning means that a tornado either has been observed by a trained storm spotter or detected on radar. When you are away from your TV, the best way to stay safe is to have the Spectrum Bay News 9 app on your mobile device or tablet and make sure notifications are turned on. That way, you'll get notified immediately of potentially dangerous weather.

Hurricane Preparedness and Pets Petswelcome.com Opens a New Window. In the event of a hurricane, it is extremely important that pet owners have a plan in place to evacuate themselves and their pets out of harm's way. Petswelcome.com has launched their very own Hurricane Preparedness Section Opens a New Window. , which includes the People and Pet Emergency Route Planner. The Emergency Route Planner Opens a New Window. allows pet owners to plot an evacuation route well in advance of a weather emergency, one that provides driving directions and identifies all the pet-friendly lodgings (and pet-friendly shelters as an option of last resort). The route can be saved so that it is ready to be pulled up at a moment's notice - safely before the storm hits - on the user's desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or phone, accessed at home or in the car.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

THIS IS THE MONTH TO HONOR THE FLAG AND ALL THE TROOPS AND VETERANS WHO HELPED FREE THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS!!!!!!

D-DAY - JUNE 6, 1944 : Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the word are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you... I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory !" Dwight D. Eisenhower

Flag Day - June 14th -is celebrated among the people of the United States of America. The celebration is aimed to pay the gratitude to their national flag and importantly the birth of the national flag. The origin of the significance of this very special day is far back on 14th January, 1777; when the continental congress replaced the British symbols of the grand union flag. This flag featured 13 stars in a circular shape on the course of blue and 13 red and white stripes. These 13 stars indicated the presence of 13 states in America which were later increased on the account of entries of new states. The stripes were also increased to 15 but then reversed back to the old 13.

As you all know we have a few Southfork groups on Facebook and would like to describe each and hope all of Southfork joins these groups. All the groups are a closed group which means no one outside of Southfork can view or post any info. Welcome all Southfork!

(Southfork, Fl growing up) This was made for all who like to remember growing up and reliving all the old time memories. From early childhood to teens and what we liked and that includes games, food you ate, school years and so much more. Takes you mind off today’s world and takes us back to our growing up years.

Whatever you want and don’t know where to buy, sell or loan this is our own community MarketPlace post for all .

(You know you are from Southfork when) This is our way of communicating between each newsletter and a chat group. It’s a place where we keep everyone updated on current events here in the park. Management also uses this group along with mass emailing for any important items they want everyone to know about and some examples are water shutoffs or any closings, or anything pertaining to the park. That is the reason I ask for all email addresses and use it for “Southfork” only. When anyone passes away I also use this to inform all.

Southfork Vendor Listings This group basically lists vendors in our local area that we can call for work around the home or some emergency we need help on. Please feel free to add any that you use and that might be helpful to all!

You can search in facebook for each of these groups and click to join and you will be added in. Again just community residents can join these groups. Any questions send me a message at pkaygrossi@aim.com or give me a call at 352567-6105

Just a reminder that all jobs serviced in the community is the responsibility of each resident and does not in any way reflect on the Southfork management.
