Grandparents are amongst the most wonderful relations in the life of every person. They give unconditional love and care to their grandchildren, which never fade with the passage of time.

We can feel the warmth and affection of our grandparents when they embrace us. The innate and undying love can be clearly reflected through their eyes. They are the ones who are responsible for passing on wisdom, values, and principles, from generation to generation, to help the youngsters lead a better and more fulfilling life.

To honor such grateful people, the United States has declared the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. This day is celebrated nationwide to honor grandparents and convey your heartiest feelings and emotions towards them.

HELLO SOUTHFORK SEPTEMBER

I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH EVERY ONE. WE ARE DOING THE BEST WE CAN. THIS GETTING OLDER IS NOT FUN SOMETIMES. BUT WE STILL GET UP ON THE GREEN SIDE OF THE GRASS. WE KEEP THE DOCTORS AND THE PHARMACY BUSY. THAT IS ENOUGH ABOUT THAT. THE CALENDAR SAYS FALL IS ALL MOST HERE HOW CAN WE TELL IT HERE IN FLORIDA? WE ARE IN THE PEAKE OF THE HEAT AND HURRICANE SEASON. BUT WE MUST LOVE IT NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE RETIRE AND MOVE NORTH .

THE FIRST BOARD MEETING OF THE FALL WILL BE SEPT. 16 TH AT 9 AM AND WILL CONTINUE EVERY THIRD MONDAY UNTIL MAY. THE FIRST H O A MEETING WILL BE NOV.25 TH AT 9 AM .

WE WILL BE TAKING NOMINATIONS FOR OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS. SO HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE THINKING ABOUT RUNNING FOR A OFFICE OR DIRECTOR. WE NEED NOMINATIONS FOR PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY AND TWO DIRECTORS. KEEP THE A. C. ON AND MAKE A NEW FRIEND.

Southfork Women’s Club

Our August 7, the “Women’s Club Salad Luncheon” had a great turn out with 23 members and one visitor in attendance. As always, there was more than enough food to enjoy, along with one guess prize, five door prizes and a 50/50.

Our collection of ruled paper and folders for the Dade City Schools was over the top, we cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity.

During the meeting three topics were brought up for discussion. The first topic, “Activities Committee” was never voted on along with duties and how many members should be on the committee. At our November meeting when most of our members are back this will be discussed and voted on.

The second topic, “Women’s Club History/Photo Books” which were kept up by Carol Whitbeck. We would like to keep the books going and a volunteer or team to keep the history is needed and someone to take pictures would help with this record keeping.

Final topic, “Southfork Women’s Club Cookbook”, we have several recipes from the Soup/Chili Supper and are looking for different recipes for input that our resident cooks would like to share in this projected cookbook. Submission of recipes can be given to any of our officers.

Wednesday, September 4, the Women’s Club will be going to IHOP for lunch at 11:00 a.m. There will be several door prizes raffled off at the luncheon. There is a sheet-up sheet in the Clubhouse.

Womens Club Summer Salad Luncheon Aug 7, 2019

WOMEN’S CLUB ANNUAL BAZAAR It is that time of year already when the planning for the Annual Bazaar gets into full swing. This year it will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 9 AM to 1PM. Last year’s Bazaar was a huge success. With your support we earned a record amount to donate to various charities in the Dade City area.

I am asking for your help again this year so we can break that record!

Thank you to the many members of the Women’s club who have already stepped up to chair different areas of the Bazaar. We already have most of the craft tables filled. So far we have three new craft vendors this year. If you are interested in getting a table, please contact me or sign up in the clubhouse as soon as possible. I have a waiting list of vendors from outside, so the cutoff for residents to book a table is October 2.

The payment of $5 for your table needs to be paid by that date.

We will once again be having the basket raffle as that is very popular.

Ladies please start planning a theme for your baskets. There were 13 baskets donated last year, let’s try to fill a few more this year. Consider getting together with friends to fill one. I have a few empty baskets available at my house, or pick up one at a thrift shop.

We had many wonderful items donated last year to our first Silent Auction. We will be holding that again this year in the library. We are looking for donations of handcrafted items, or anything you have that is in excellent shape. We have a few people who have volunteered their time to go out into the community and solicit items and gift cards from local businesses. If you frequent a business that you think might be willing to donate something, please contact me to get a letter from the Women’s Club to present to them.

Your help in getting a wide variety of items will make this event a great success!

Donations can be dropped off at my house or brought to the Women’s Club meetings.

All Southfork residents are invited to attend a “Potluck” on Labor Day, September 2ndh at the Clubhouse.

Price of admission is a dish to pass (meat, vegetable, salad or dessert) enough for 8-10 people.

Bring your own table service and HOA will furnish the drinks.

If you plan to attend, please sign-up by Friday, August 30th so we know how many will be attending.

Ed Bellnier Family My family and I would like to thank you for your prayers, calls, food donations, cards and kindness as my family and I mourn the loss of my husband Ed Bellnier.

Ed's memory will live on in the stories that we share about him and the jokes that we retell that he told us.

DOUBLE PINOCHLE Tuesday Evenings 6pm @Clubhouse

Is there anyone interested in playing Double Pinochle? There has been a change of plan since the last newsletter was sent out. This game is for all men and women of the community and the general feedback is that this is the game everyone wants to play. So we are honoring all those wishes.

There are rules that 4, 5 or 6 people can play. Tables of 4 are the usual but we will accommodate all who want to play and no one will be turned away.

If possible all who want to play try and be at the clubhouse by 5:30 to 5:45pm so we can get a count of how many will be playing and we start at 6pm. If you have any friends outside of Southfork, feel free to invite them.

For years we had played this game at the clubhouse and it was a lot of fun and it was decided to try again. Day and time picked because there are so many other games during the week and Tuesdays seem to be the best day to try.

Let’s get started and by the time the snowbirds arrive you will already be pro’s with more fun to be had.

We need some double deck cards if a lot are interested with no “9’s”

Neighbor Watch Alert

Just a word to the wise………………Do you have a “ watch code” with your neighbors in case of an emergency? This is especially for those that live alone and a sort of a “watch out for one another”.

A suggestion would be for each neighbor to observe in case any of you need help and this goes for all residents. If you have a certain window that has a blind you close at dark and open in the morning when you awake……………well let your neighbor know that if it Is not opened by a certain time in the morning to immediately call you to make sure everything is okay. Make a plan as to whom your neighbor should call if this should happen. Should they be able to enter your home or should 911 be called? It has been noted that many who live alone do not wear a “life alert” so that emergency can be called immediately if help is needed.

There are many here in Southfork who do not interact with neighbors and if it looks like no one is moving around and their car is still in the driveway, it could mean trouble. So as a word to the wise…….start an emergency action code to avoid any problems that can be avoided.

Monday Morning Coffee Hour 8:00am to 9am

Starting on Monday September 9th, 2019 , Coffee hour is back from vacation with Tom Robinson & Bill Laforest starting it off.

There is always coffee brewing which is free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry and they are $.50 each. Come and join your friends and neighbors for a cup of good brewing coffee.

In order to keep the weekly coffee hour active we need help. If we get enough people to help on Mondays, each person helping would only be scheduled at least once a month. So you guys, please get together and double up and help us out. We will train you and losing Tom Grandy and Marvin Dye who is not coming back and that leaves a big hole in helpers.

Hello to all New Residents

Visitors/Potential/New Buyers to this area of Florida are often surprised as they drive through and are waved to by people they don’t know. Many think they are being mistaken for someone else and those from large cities simply don’t know what to think.

Waving or throwing up your hand to passing cars or walkers is just not done in most places but here in the Southfork it’s a way to say hello to friends, neighbors and strangers. It’s a throwback to a “simpler era” when people passed on wagons, threw up hands and more often than not, stopped and talked a spell.

Isn’t it wonderful in these turbulent times that people still take time to wave and to say hello with their hands as they pass by on the streets. I guess it’s because we’re a small community and time hasn’t drawn us into a headlong race for the next moment before this one’s over. But I’m sure it’s also due, in part, to the fact that here people still take time to say hello and how are you doing and to let you all know we live in the best and most friendly community.

These phrases may be clichés in some places but they still have a meaning and purpose; to acknowledge and say, “Good to see you” to friends/neighbors whether you know them or not.

I’m proud to live in a place where people are friendly and take time to say hello, even if it’s only an index finger raised over the steering wheel of a passing car, or a walk past a neighbor’s home. It’s an old fashioned hello and one I really appreciate, so when walking through Southfork and someone waves to you, it is their way of saying “Hi and how are you” and “Welcome” and “WAVE BACK”.

No solicitors are allowed in this community whether it be selling of newspaper or otherwise.

We have had door to door people trying to solicit various things. They tell you they are new in the area and just starting up a new business. They will want to offer something free (no such thing) and of course they want to come in to your home to explain.

DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOME!!!!!!!

If you do, ask to see a permit that they are allowed to solicit in the park.

Call 911 and try to get color, make of car and a license number to give the authorities.

Get a description of the people who are at your door and give to the authorities.

Call the office to let them know these people are in the park.

Do not get smart with them because you do not know if they have a weapon of some kind on them.

Be Safe and not sorry!!!!!!

The Early Bird

We all know the early bird Catches the worm, But here in Florida, the early bird Takes on a different term.

Tonight we are in for a special treat --- My honey and I, are going out to eat.
