Florida and its Summer

The temperature is rising. We're in the hottest days of summer. Heat and humidity in the air are soaring Sometimes for days the rains are just pouring. This is summer with all its days full of sun and fun. People stroll the beach, and swim far beyond the sand, Beachcombers spend there their time till the sun goes down. Surfing and sunbathing is all a big part of their fun You see children running and playing, Some are so happy building sandcastles under the sun. There are people of all ages, sexes and shapes, Some are sitting, eating and laughing till the day is undone. These are the hottest days of summer right here where I live. Living in Florida for so many people can be a lot of fun.

Southfork Women’s Club

The Women’s Club and Management achieved what they set out to accomplish at our Charity Pool Party on July 4th, even with the threat of Mother Nature. We had 70 attendees who brought in over 150 nonperishable items for Day Star Hope Center. We’d like to thank everyone who attended along with everyone who helped organized, setup, cleanup, cook and serve. Thank you to Hollis Adams for saying our prayer, to all the Veterans, the HOA for the use of their awesome new grill and to Tim & Megan Kelly our community managers for their generous donation. Without the help of our wonderful, giving community the Women’s Club would not be able to donate the amount of, goods, supplies and monetary gifts to Dade City Charities. Again a BIG Thank You to everyone! Wednesday, August, 7 at 11 a.m. we are having a Summer Salad Luncheon. There is a sign-up sheet in the Clubhouse listing the following salads: Garden, Fruit, Jell-O, Potato, Pasta, Tuna, Chicken, and Egg, along with Brownies, Rolls and Butter. During lunch we will have one Guess Prize and we will be giving away door prizes. There will be a 50/50 drawing. After our lunch we are going to have another game day, the June game day went over so well we’d like to have another one. The games we have to play are Yahtzee, Right, Left, Center, Scrabble, Hand and Foot and 65. Some games can be fun with money, so bring your change if you would like to win a little money. Instead of 2 nonperishable items, please remember to bring lined writing paper and folders for the Dade City Schools. We hope everyone here in Florida and up North are having a wonderful summer! Marcia Alexander and Jackie Morgano

Southfork Women’s Club held their Charity Community Party on July 4 th, 2019 and it was a great success. The only cost was to bring 2 non-perishable items as the fee. There were 70 in attendance and a great time held by all. We all want to thank the Women’s Club for this great party and for the work put in to planning this great event. We look forward to the many things the Women’s Club has in store so stayed tuned. Marcia and her crew did an outstanding job in the cooking of the Hotdogs and Hamburgs and can’t forget to thank the men who were just as busy and that was Joe Morgano, Larry Comer and Bob Dougherty. Kudo’s to all Women’s Club members who made this another great event.

WELCOME, RESIDENTS AND NEIGHBORS Come and join us Wednesday’s for BINGO Bingo is re-starting on August 21st after a month’s vacation. The bingo doors open at 3:30 pm, sales start at 4:30 pm and sales stop at 5:15 pm. Early bird (5 games) start around 5:30 pm followed by a 10 min break before regular bingo games start. Come early to get your bingo sheets because after the Warm Up Games is our first event of the evening, the 50/50 . Tickets are 3 stubs for $1.00 or 7 for $2.00 with the winner receiving ½ of the intake and then 10 other winners are picked and each receives a free special. Besides these 50/50’s and regular games, we have specials ( Dual Dab pays anywhere from $150.00 and up depending on the sales, Red, White & Blue and that is a two part game, and the last special of the evening is a 2 part game and the 2 nd game depending on the crowd pays close to $100.00 or more) and we even have the “cookie jar” and the lucky number for the evening on the regular games gets the accumulated amount which is carried over week to week if no winners. No matter what you hear our bingo is really great and you have a great chance with winning some of our great prizes. So come and join us for a night of fun and chance instead of sitting at home. If you never played there are many who will show and guide you through the evening. We are here to help and interact with our neighbors!

Ed Bellnier

It is with great sadness that another of Southfork’s great icons has passed away.

Ed Bellnier (spouse of Katie) passed away on

Monday, July 15, 2019 and it is hard to understand and grasp why such good people leave us so soon. Ed was to everyone a friend who always had a smiling face and ready to joke or tease and who talked with everyone regardless if he knew them or not. It is incredibly sad that Ed’s life ended so soon and I cannot put into words how much he will be missed by all. If he were here he would tell us to cheer up, smile and remember all of the great memories we all shared. Even though Ed may be gone, his memory will live on in all of us forever.

Dear Southfork Family, It was overwhelming to receive so many wonderful get well cards and notes from you. I enjoyed reading and re-reading each of them! Also, your thoughts and prayers that I read on FB for a successful surgery were encouraging and a reminder to me of our awesome southfork family and your concern for others. God is good, and certainly answered your prayers for me in a special way! I had 4 heart blockages, and two of them were almost complete. I never left the hospital after having an angiogram, because it was determined that I was on the verge of a heart attack. Five days later, I had bypass surgery to fix my heart. I am healing well now, and feeling so much better! In August, I will begin 12 weeks (3 times a week), of cardiac rehab at a nearby hospital. I look forward to the time I'll be able to return to Southfork, and enjoy being with you all! Thank you so much! Hugs, and God bless you! Nancy Jones

Southfork HOA River Cruise

Wednesday, June 19th, approximately 30 of our residents were up early and ready for an outing. With help from B & D Travel, our HOA sponsored a day trip to Sanford, Florida for a river cruise aboard the paddleboat, Barbara Lee. After boarding the boat and getting underway, the passengers were greeted with a variety of appetizers, including delicious, warm sticky rolls. Also, live music was provided and that brought the dancers out on the dance floor. Passengers ventured outside on the boat to view the beautiful scenery. Others stayed inside to enjoy the music, dancing, and just relaxing. A very nice sit-down lunch was provided, that of course included dessert. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. After disembarking, we got back on the bus to return to Southfork. What a great day with friends and neighbors.

Marcia Alexander, HOA Secretary

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd TIME: 5:00PM @ Clubhouse

All Southfork residents are invited to attend a “Potluck” on Labor Day, September 2ndh at the Clubhouse. Price of admission is a dish to pass (meat, vegetable, salad or dessert) enough for 8-10 people. Bring your own table service and HOA will furnish the drinks. If you plan to attend, please sign-up by Friday, August 30th so we know how many will be attending.

Hope to see all of you there!!!!!

Need your help again please Article submitted by Norm Conaty I am asking all of you to help out in the recycling of all your aluminum cans. We need them to fund our recycling program.

We have expanded our

aluminum can recycling program and noticed a decline in the can recycling and just wanted you to know, please deposit all of your cans in the areas listed below. Please, use more aluminum cans and less plastic containers! You can now recycle your aluminum cans at a few different locations here in the park. (1) The Clubhouse, (2) The Pool area, (3) The shuffleboard court area, (4) Pavilion area, (5) The big recycle box in the RV Parking area. These areas have been installed for all who do not want to make a special trip only to the RV area and with these other areas in the park should make it easier to recycle. If anyone cannot make it to any of the locations to deposit cans, please call Norm (813-830-8842) and he will pickup them up from you.

Forget your troubles for a moment and have a laugh………… I think all of us have had a trying time at one time or another and every now and then we need something to laugh about or for. Thought maybe a cartoon or two would give us something to take our minds off our problems. Have a great month and enjoy life while you can!!!

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Summer and soon Fall approaches and so many changes occur in nature and in some cases there are changes in our lives which are due to sickness or death. The dictionary defines a community as a group of individuals who live in the same area or community like ours is. What better community for retirement then Southfork , our home. The mixture of backgrounds and experiences is what shapes us and then we all come together to share and interact with one another in our daily lives. A true blessing is living here in this great community, interacting with friends and neighbors and then attending the many events here at the Clubhouse which help make us “family”. It is in Southfork where the true meaning of a community comes to light where the caring and concern is displayed by the residents. All the residents should feel extra special of how blessed we are to be here ! We should be enjoying life to the fullest.

WOMEN’S CARD NIGHT Tuesday’s 6pm

Okay women of Southfork , who would like a “ card night” on Tuesday evenings at the Clubhouse?

Games in discussion are Poker or Double Pinochle or maybe both….. The start time is 6:00 pm but be there by at least 5:30 or 5:45 pm to see how many want to play either game. Both games can be played as long as we get enough women to play.

We need to know how many are interested and please let Gail Young know if you want to play either game or have any questions. Gail Young is the coordinator. Poker is nickel/dime so bring your change and be ready to win. No money is needed for Double Pinochle. So come on up and join us on Tuesday evenings and have a fun evening out. Let’s get started and by the time the snowbirds arrive you will already be pro’s with more fun to be had.
