Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS Have a great month!
January
2019
Look For The Good In the New Year, let's resolve to get less stressed, upset, anxious about things over which we have no control. Lets have a narrower focus on our lives, loving and helping our family and friends, making our community a better place to live, to create peace and contentment. In the New Year, let's resolve to pay less attention to depressing stories on TV, in magazines and newspapers, and to stop focusing on what we want that we haven't got, instead of appreciating the many blessings we do have. In the New Year, let's look for the good. We may have to search through a mass of negative media, but the good is there, all around us. I wish for you a New Year filled with good, engulfed in serenity and happiness! By Joanna Fuchs

Southfork Annual Association Meeting
What: Our annual homeowner’s meeting is a chance to meet new neighbors, catch up with old friends and discuss local issues. This January meeting has been designated by our by-laws to be the first meeting of the fiscal year with the election of new officer’s and directors. Please plan to attend and learn what’s happening in Southfork!
Where:
Southfork Clubhouse, January 28th, 2019 at 9A.M. sharp!
Why: It’s your neighborhood, too! With our combined efforts, we can continue to make our community a better social environment with better communication to everyone. We need everyone’s support to help and vote on issues that everyone is happy with! It is next to impossible to please everyone but there are ways to try and appease most of the people. If there is anyone who is interested in being an officer or run as a director your name must be handwritten in on the already printed ballot because nominations were closed at the November membership meeting! Who: You, the homeowners, must have your yearly dues paid by January 10th in order to vote for any new officer/director’s. The annual yearly dues is $20.00 per household and only one (1) member of each household is eligible to vote. Submit payment to Secretary, Marcia Alexander, 11018 Mesquite Dr or place in the suggestion box in the lobby of the clubhouse. How: No need to RSVP, just show up! Reason: We need more than one candidate for each office to run. If there is only 1 person for each office with no competition, elections will be held and the slate is automatically given to the only ones listed for each office. So, if you want “change” this is the time to do it!!! Please, come and submit your name or your ideas.
from Tom’s desk.

Southfork Women’s Club
The Women’s Club had a wonderful Christmas Party on Dec 5, with 50 members present. We had a very fast meeting, of course, and then on to the food and fun. The hostess committee(Katie Bellnier, Carol Albers and Diana Unger) did an outstanding job of decorating with Christmas tablecloths, poinsettias and snowmen all aglow. Everyone left with gifts and flowers from the Women’s Club and the hall looked wonderful. The luncheon was amazing too, with fried chicken, shrimp cocktail, veggie plate, deviled eggs, sandwiches, sloppy joes, salad and my favorite, wedged potatoes and of course desserts. A feast for all. After the luncheon we did a “yankee swap”, with some give and take (swaping) of the gifts and lots of laughs. It was a party not to be missed. The meeting before the party was also a very happy time, as we learned how well the bazaar did. Sue Keschner and her army of volunteers did an amazing job. The best of all is that Sue will be organizing the bazaar again next. Thanks a lot Sue. The Soup Supper has three organizers and they have it well in hand. Remember the supper is on January 19 at 5 o’clock and tickets are $5.00. Hope to see you all there. The January meeting will be our election and it will be on January 9th, 2019, the second Wed of the month. We will need a secretary, so please think about it and if you can do it or know someone who would do it please speak up. Thanks. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all See you in January 2019 Nancy McCallan

We would appreciate everyone making soup to please submit your recipe to Jackie Morgano either in person or via email at jmorgano53@gmail.com as soon as possible. Picture Directory
Southfork is having a “ Community Photo Directory” coming in February and no set dates are known at this time. Harvey Barber and Tom Geyer had a meeting with the company (Life Touch) who will be taking all photos for our community photo directory and sure hope all of you will be interested. It sure would be great if all of you take advantage of this opportunity so we can have a directory to know who you are and what you look like so we recognize you at the Clubhouse or when our paths cross. We are imploring all of you to take advantage of this project and it is at no cost to anyone. Everyone who has their picture taken will be receiving a free 8 x 10 photo. These directories will only be given out to those who have their picture taken as a token and good gesture of the company. It would be too costly to give everyone in the community a copy of the book, so please take advantage of this opportunity and help us to make this a success.. We were told that photos can be taken with any relative or other family members, single or double portraits and "pets" if you like. If you have any questions on this please do not hesitate to ask. For all of our shut in's or those without cars to come to the clubhouse for picture taking, we can make arrangements for you to be picked up and brought back home. Prices will be available in case you want to purchase any pictures and no pressure to purchase any photo’s..
Dates will be listed soon and the photos will be taken in the clubhouse.
Please note that the clubhouse will be unavailable on these dates because of the equipment, photos taken etc.
Thanks everyone, Harvey Barber and Tom Geyer
A great big thank you from Tanya Hahn for all the cards and support with the passing of her spouse Bobby. She and Bobby loved Southfork and she wants to come back home on Mesquite Dr. Right now she is New York at her son’s home and they are taking care of her and she will be back after the first of the year. She just could not thank everyone enough for all the thoughts and prayers.
GAMES IN SOUTHFORK
Is it possible that all people who are in charge/involved with any game activity here at the Clubhouse, please send me info (pkaygrossi@aim.com ) so that I can place the info on the Activities page (if not already) in the newsletter. This helps all the newer residents in case they would like to come up and join all who are playing. Many have heard of the various games/activities and this would be a great invite to all. Let’s get all involved and invite our neighbors!

Southfork Ambulance Program Annual Meeting Recap A jovial group of about forty (40) members attended and renewed their memberships on December 7th, 2018,. The first order of business was to vote on making the reduced renewing fee of $12.00 permanent. No one objected, it passed. Next, we had to deal with a possible election as three (3) members were up for re-election. The floor voted to keep our board intact, and our board members agreed to stay on. It was noted that we have paid forty eight (48) claims since day one in year 2012. Our next activity will be a cook-out at the pavilion either in February or March. It will be a ticketed event…no tickee, no eatee…. Remember, that each year, December is our renewing membership month and dues must be paid by January 1st. Any questions, please contact Jim & Carolyn MCAdams @352-206-2754
A brand new year! A clean slate on which to write our hopes and dreams. This year: Less time and energy on things; More time and energy on people. All of life’s best rewards, deepest and finest feelings, greatest satisfactions, come from people--people like you. Happy New Year! By Joanna Fuchs
“Every Southfork Resident is invited to join us for Water Aerobics” We have had a huge interest regarding the facebook post for Water Aerobics and due to the capacity of our pool we have to limit the size of the class from 15 to 20 participants per class. Since the group from TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) is heading up the Water Aerobics class, they will have first choice along with the residents of Southfork at no cost. The classes will be scheduled on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1 pm, starting January 7, 2019, weather permitting. The class will start out slow, running from 30 minutes building up to 60 minutes. If interest, please contact Jackie Morgano at 716-866-2655. Thank you, Jackie

MEN’S BREAKFAST GROUP
There are a group of guys who have been meeting for at least 4 to 6 years for a monthly breakfast. It started out as monthly and everyone enjoyed themselves so much they changed to a twice a month get together. They started meeting at the IHOP and it got a little costly so they changed to meeting at “Smitty’s” in Dade City (by the produce stand) and have been there ever since and the breakfast is at 9am. The breakfast group has had upwards to 15 or more hungry men and this group really likes to eat. I think it’s what they do best. Now this is a men’s only group and a way to talk and tease each other with out having to watch their manner with their woman around to correct. (smile) This is not a club or connected to any group and is open to all men of the community. The group meets on the First (1st) and Third (3rd) Friday of each month all year long. Why not come out and have breakfast with all of the guys and interact and get to know one another. What a good way to meet with your special friends twice a month. We are looking forward to seeing you at our next breakfast and having a lot of laughs and just plain fun!
Come and join us!!!!!

Come and see if you would be interested in playing and see how much fun we have.
For more information, contact Nancy Jones or Mary Jo Dye.
Men’s Shuffleboard We meet daily, Monday through Friday at 1pm. Games last about 1 1/2 hours
Come and meet your friends and neighbors for an enjoyable game with a lot of laughs and teasing. Great way to meet fellow neighbors!
Southfork Thanksgiving Article & photos submitted by, Kathy Gallick Well, if one left without a full stomach, that would be your fault. Turkey cooked and served to perfection, gravy, potatoes of all kinds (nothing was lacking), Veggies, Salads and everyone has their speciality and all was well received. A turkey plate of cookies and so very nicely arranged and was one of the many desserts offered. Thanks to set up crew, servers, clean up crew and to all who brought such fantastic and tasty food and all unselfishly give their time and effort to our community. Wouldn’t have wanted to be any where else.
Looks like everyone had a great Community (family) day here in Southfork on Thanksgiving. You know the food had to be great because the best cooks are here in this community.
Dear Friends and Families! 2018 is coming to a close! How many of you are surprised to be to be a live, AND to be living our “Golden Years” in Southfork? Most of you know, I have been an “active political” resident of Southfork for the past 16 years....not for “glory” but hopefully to share my life’s experiences and appreciation of life in Southfork! Yes, our land rent has increased every year! Question did your former city or town property increase every year......AND for services you no longer needed? Did you also have an exercise tax to register your car, a separate water, sewerage quarterly bill? A State Income Tax? Did you? Many States do! It is TIME to count our blessings! We have been BLESSED to have our new managers, Tim and Megan! A loving couple, who wants the very best of Southfork and become our family and our property caretakers of Southfork for our best interest! Yes, they will enforce the rules (we agreed to them when we signed our contract).......They have proven their dedication to improve the beauty of Southfork and their abilities to sell our homes, when needed! They have shown help when needed, we have never had before ! REMEMBER, they are caught in the middle? They are employees of the Heilers, who own the ‘profit’ making business, (we signed their contracts)....... They are under the direction and supervision of their bosses! Tim and Meg’s LOVE to show they wish to serve us! I am extremely sorry if you have not recognized it! It is my sincere hope you will let them know we are so happy they have chosen to become our managers! Submitted by Dot Cady
Where O Where You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the “back nine” of my life and it catches me by surprise... How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that “I was only on the first hole” and the “back nine” was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like. But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become. Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit! And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though I’m on the “back nine”, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime. So, if you're not on the “back nine” yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you’re on the “back nine” or not! You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!! "Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY! HAVE A GREAT DAY! Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LIVE HAPPY IN 2019!
Welcome to Wikipedia
Half-mast In the United States, the usual government term for non-nautical use is "half-staff." While the term "half-mast" is commonly used in place of half-staff, U.S. law and post-WW-I military tradition indicate that "half-mast" is reserved to usage aboard a ship, where flags are typically flown from masts, and at naval ships ashore.[56][57]
In the United States, the President can issue an executive order for the flag of the United States to be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States government and others, as a mark of respect to their memory. When such an order is issued, all government buildings, offices, public schools, and military bases are to fly their flags at half-staff. Under federal law (4 U.S.C. § 7(f)), the flags of states, cities, localities, and pennants of societies, shall never be placed above the flag of the United States; thus, all other flags also fly at half-staff when the U.S. flag has been ordered to fly at half-staff. There is no penalty for failure to comply with the above law as to enforce such a penalty would violate the First Amendment. [citation needed]
Governors of U.S. states and territories are authorized by federal law to order all U.S. and state flags in their jurisdiction flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for a former or current state official who has died, or for a member of the armed forces who has died in active duty. The governor's authority to issue the order is more restricted than the president’s and does not include discretion to issue the order for state residents who do not meet the criteria stated. Since a governor's executive order affects only his or her state, not the entire country, these orders are distinguished from presidential proclamations. Under 4 U.S.C. § 7(m) and established traditions by Presidential proclamations, the flag of the United States is to be flown at half-staff on rare occasions, in the following circumstances:[58] • • •
• • • •
For thirty days after the death of a current or former president or president-elect. For ten days after the death of a current vice president, current or retired chief justice, or current Speaker of the House of Representatives. From the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a secretary of an executive or military department, a former vice president, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate,[59] or the governor of a state, territory, or possession. On the day of death and the day after[60] for a Member of Congress. On Memorial Day until noon. Every September 11 in remembrance of the September 11 attacks.[61] Upon presidential proclamation, usually after the death of other notable figures or tragic events.[62]
Federal law includes a Congressional request that the flag be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15), unless that day is also Armed Forces Day. Presidential proclamations also call for the flag to be flown at half-staff on Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (December 7),[63] and Patriot Day (September 11).[64] On October 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring the United States flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters. Pub.L. 107–51 requires this action to occur annually in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.[65] The date of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service is traditionally the first Sunday in October. It is held at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.[66]
Just a reminder that all jobs serviced in the community is the responsibility of each resident and does not in any way reflect on the Southfork management.
