Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS Have a great month!

November

2018

Thanksgiving Day brings to mind the blessings in our lives that usually go unnoticed: A home that surrounds us with comfort and protection, delicious food, for pleasure in both eating and sharing, clothes to snuggle up in, books and good entertainment to expand our minds; and freedom to worship our God. Most of all we are thankful for our family and friends, those treasured people who make our lives extra special. You are part of that cherished group. On Thanksgiving, (and every day) we appreciate you. Happy Thanksgiving! By Joanna Fuchs

Nominations are always closed at this meeting but write ins will be taken at the January meeting. If you are someone wanting to help out, be fair and equal on everything, have an open mind, have a good listening ear , ideas, then you are a person we are looking for!!!!! We urge you to attend this important meeting so that you too, can take part in nominating your choice of candidates. If you don’t think you can do it and know someone who can, by all means, nominate them .

Southfork Women’s Club

Well the new season of the Women’s club started in October with a great Fashion Show. It was fantastic and so were our models wearing Bon Worths fashions. Models were, Marcia Alexander, Carolyn Williams, Jean Richardson, Carol Reno, Donna Elder and Dot Cady. There were some great outfits and all the women did a great job. Thanks to the hosts and servers for a lovely luncheon and I think everyone enjoyed it. Our next meeting will be on Wed, Nov 7th at 10 am. Don’t forget to bring at least 2 cans of food for donations to the needy and all of this goes to Daystar. There will be a 50/50 drawing and we will be accepting at this meeting the annual dues for year 2019 at $5.00. Also the final arrangements will be discussed for the annual bazaar. Thanks so much, Gail Young

The Women’s Club takes this time to honor and remember our past President, Marielle Quain. Marielle brought the Women’s club to the level it is today and she will never be forgotten.

RIP, Marielle

Need your help again please Article submitted by Norm Conaty I am asking all of you to help out in the recycling of all your aluminum cans. We need them to fund our recycling program.

Since the cancellation of the

paper recycling, we have expanded our aluminum can recycling program and noticed a decline in the can recycling and just wanted you to know, please deposit all of your cans in the areas listed below.

Please, use more

aluminum cans and less plastic containers! You can now recycle your aluminum cans at a few different locations here in the park. (1) The Clubhouse, (2) The Pool area, (3) The shuffleboard court area, (4) Pavilion area, (5) The big recycle box in the RV Parking area. These areas have been installed for all who do not want to make a special trip only to the RV area and with these other areas in the park should make it easier to recycle..

I want to thank everyone who sent me cards ( 40 cards) and also a very nice card signed by all my friends at Bingo. Thanks also to everyone who came to visit me at the Hospital, It was like a bit of Heaven. Thanks also to the very generous people who made sure John had food during my stay in the hospital. When I was back home the food kept coming. We have guardian angels in this Community. People who look after others people who go out of their way to help. They stay away from those who say this was never done before why should we do anything. If Henry Ford would not have invented the first car we would still be driving Horses and Buggys. In this Community we help each other and Southfork is a very good place to live in. As soon as I am better I will flap my wings and will join the other guardian angels. I will see you around. LOVE YOU ALL Marielle. (Submitted the week before her passing away) ______________________________________________________________________

Men;s Breakfast To all men here in the community. Every month on the 1st & 3rd Friday of the month, the guys get together for a breakfast at Smitty’s here in Dade City. What a way for the men to chat and interact and of course get away from the women (smile) and get their voices heard with out interruption. It’s a good group that get together and a great bunch of guys. Come and enjoy!

In memory of an icon of Southfork Marielle Quain 10/12/2018

I don’t know where to start on this one. Marielle was a pillar in this community and I don’t think too many can say they did not know her or of her. Marielle was involved in so many things too numerous to mention but here a few of the things she really loved the most. She was president of the Women’s club for 11 years and responsible for so many events and helped bring the Women’s club to what it is today. She loved helping the needy and the military troops. Bingo chairperson since year 2004 and made it is what is today with a great crowd weekly and also for inviting so many outsiders and helping with the interacting of all the local communities. That was an accomplishment and so many friends were made with these communities. One of the best friends she has made was with Bob Dumas from the Blue Jay community who has helped her with many things and especially the machine programming for the bingo. He and Bertha have helped Marielle so many times and it really was appreciated. Marielle not only contributed to all the above activities but she attended most events here in Southfork and she loved line dancing and entertainment nights. She loved her Bridge games and her Euchre games and was instrumental in getting the game “65” popular. I probably could go on and on but this is one person who wanted to see Southfork prosper and she made sure to view her ideas and suggestions to all. She also was a previous board member of the H.O.A and it was an area she wanted to see get very active and grow. I have lost a friend and we have worked close together in many areas since year 2004. Southfork will not be the same with out her and our condolences to John and the family. Thanks, Phyllis Grossi

To Tim & Megan, This is coming from Southfork Community and we all want to thank both of you for all the work that is being done with the help of Penny & Andy for the improvements and maintenance of our park.. So many-neglected things have been taken care of, thoroughly cleaning pool areas, obviously little things that should have been done....(new plants, chairs outside the pool entrance, and designated ramps for wheel chairs ) and so much more that no one really sees. Along with your office duties, selling homes, working outdoors in the hot and humid weather and making the community more attractive to visitors, that is dedication and caring for all of us.

Both of you ( Tim & Megan), not only have you been wonderful on trying to improve the community but you both have a great listening ear and always wearing a smile. We are all very impressed by the amount of projects that have been completed and having no set hours to accomplish all of these improvements.. You are seen very early in the mornings and on the weekends, working many evenings until late and you both are not just a 9 to 5 management.. We are so fortunate to have you both and so glad you have made this your home and making this community very inviting.

Black Widow Spider Poisonous spiders are among us and you don’t even know it. I found this one with her eggs living under the gutter outside our Florida room. She is about the size of a quarter and has an hour glass on the bottom of her body. I have also found them living in the air conditioning unit outside and their eggs in the electrical box. Their eggs are white and barbed. The size of the eggs are pea size and larger. Black Widows like to live in dark places. We also have Brown Recluse Spiders that are also poisonous in Florida. This one was under the gutter next to our Florida room with her eggs. I sprayed it with Bifen XTS an insecticide and termacide I use for spraying my house.

CHARITY COMMITTEE NEWS Submitted by, Diane Unger Lacoochee School teachers were very happy to receive the pencil sharpeners and the cases of paper that they greatly needed. Usually we collect socks for the school in November, but this year they have a good supply of socks on hand.

So, in the month of November we will be collecting candy and small toys for stockings for Daystar. They can be brought to the Women’s Club meeting in November or put in the container marked Stockings up at the club house during the month. The grocery stores run two for one deals on candy and the Dollar Tree has ute little gifts for a dollar. A date will be set at the end of the month to put the stockings together. Thank you for all of your support.

FURBIE FRIENDS OF SOUTHFORK This month’s pet article is a focus on KATHLEEN GARNER of Bronco Drive! The work that Kathleen has done in our community is worthy of notice. She has been instrumental in capturing stray cats and one-by-one, having them neutered/spayed. So far, she has captured five strays, made appointments to have them fixed, delivered them back into their natural habitat. The State of Florida rules that if stray (ferruled) cats are captured, they must be returned to their habitat. Luckily, Kathleen has solicited the free services from Dade City Animal Clinic to neuter/spay these cats. There is a $30.00 fee for each one for after medication. Several folks here have donated money for this cause. We thank you for that – DOT CADY (Sadie-F); RHONDA BENNER (Sonny-M); CAROL MELIA (Tuesday-M); DON DUARTE (Angel-F); and KATHLEEN, (Cheddar-M). There is one male left and he will take the “joy ride” to the vet in November (sponsored by Katie Bellnier and me)! These little animals do exist, so we as a community have to do the humane thing and stop them from multiplying, plus, they help to rid rodents in the RV parking area. Now, the inhumane thing would be poison or rid them in some other way. That is not an option and we have to deal with the situation. Thank you, Kathleen, for stepping up to the bat! Hopefully, this will put an end to the “litters” to come! Situation solved! Kathleen rescued two beautiful cats when in Michigan - Pixie and Daisy. They are gorgeous, although they are not related….no one could ever tell, except for their fur. They are lucky to have such a lovely home and adoptive parents – Kathleen and Berry!

Welcome back to all our summer-vacationing families! If you’d like to show off your furbie or feathered family friend in future Southfork articles, please let me know.  Also, remember to pick up after your animals – they can’t – we must! If you didn’t take sufficient disposal bags and your pet has an accident, go back home and return to the scene to properly dispose of it! Everyone would appreciate that! Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hi everyone, We have so many new residents and I would like for them to know how communication is received here in Southfork. We use the Newsletter, the (closed) Facebook group which only Southfork residents can be a member of and no one outside the park can view, and also Mass emailing which I use for information from the managers, death of residents or any current info that all residents should know before the next newsletter. For all who place info in the newsletter, I do have a cutoff date for each month which is the 15th. This is a job that I am working in daily because of the many pages submitted and it takes me a few days between the 15th & 20th of the month to get it ready to submit to the owners so they can print it for distribution. When I send the pages I need to have an even amount and that is why I need this ASAP in case I have to use a filler page. Also if you would like to see the newsletter in color, click on www.floridacommunities.com and click on Southfork and then scroll down to newsletters or current resale of homes. Our facebook group is at “you know you are from southfork when and if you are not a member already, click on it and ask to join. No family members or anyone from outside of Southfork can post or view any postings. The managers as of right now are not members of this group so if you have major issues you should contact them and not use this group as frustration with any issue. We do welcome all of your input and look forward to all the postings. The mass emailing is very important and I already have close to 200 email addresses which I only use for current events or important info from management and nothing else. You can send me your email address at pkaygrossi@aim.com

Thanks , Phyllis Grossi
