Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Have a great month!
September 2018 September 9th, 2018 “Grandparents Day”
Grandparents are amongst the most wonderful relations in the life of every person. They give unconditional love and care to their grandchildren, which never fade with the passage of time.
We can feel the warmth and affection of our grandparents when they embrace us. The innate and undying love can be clearly reflected through their eyes. They are the ones who are responsible for passing on wisdom, values, and principles, from generation to generation, to help the youngsters lead a better and more fulfilling life.
To honor such grateful people, the United States has declared the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. This day is celebrated nationwide to honor grandparents and convey your heartiest feelings and emotions towards them.

DON'T GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE PHONE OR INTERNET UNLESS YOU KNOW WHO THEY ARE. IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS. BE CAREFUL DRIVING YOU MUST DRIVE FOR YOUR SELF AND THE OTHER PERSON. WE HAVE A LOT OF BAD DRIVERS IN THIS COUNTRY. BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES ALSO. TILL NEXT TIME .
TOM
Bill D. Williams entertained at a full house on Tuesday, July 17 and such a great singer. He announced before the show that he had a Tumor in his throat (which will be removed soon) which kind of hampered how much he could sing. He did a lot of talking in between songs but his voice was still good. Kudo’s to all the dancers out on the floor. He will be back in March and he said he should be a good as new again
LIBRARY
The Library is for the entire community to use and we would like to ask a favor of all of you. There are numerous items on our bulletin board in the library that do not have dates on them and we do not know if they are outdated. There is a sign on the bulletin board that asks for all to put the date of posting items for sale or ads or whatever. After a length of time they have to be removed so there is a place for all newer ads that can be placed and the space is needed. Thanks to all, Katie & Bert
PAPER RECYCLING STOPS
Attention all residents of Southfork. Your participation in the recycling programs has been fantastic but unfortunately the paper recycling program has been supply and demand. Going into the second quarter of this year the recycled paper market dropped to the lowest prices I’ve seen in the past 30 years. Starting September 1st, the paper companies will start charging for pick up rather than pay for the paper products and we have 2 containers and they will charge $50.00 a container and Because of
this we are going to remove the paper recycling containers in the RV section in back of the park. There is good news as recycling is important. The County Waste Haulers as part of their contract have to provide curbside pick up on each Tuesday and Friday of each week for paper, along with all other trash. We still have the curbside can/bottle/paper recycling that is listed in the newsletter on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month.
“NOW” the aluminum can program is still and will remain strong and will remain a money maker for the H.O.A. PLEASE continue to help. Use more aluminum cans and drop off down in the RV section and that location has not changed.
If you need help hauling your recycled aluminum cans to the recycle drop off bin, please give me (Norm Conaty) a call. I will continue to watch the paper market and if and when the market ever changes where a profit can be made, I will get the paper containers back.
Thanks again for your continued support, The Recycle Man (Norm Conaty)
Good news for the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month starting in September
Paper pick-up has been added
1. (New) Paper & Cardboard can now be recycled on these days. Place all the below like items in a container or card board box: accepts all kinds of paper like office paper, junk mail, phone books, soft-back books, magazines, paper bags (no plastic), newspaper and inserts. Cardboard consists of corrugated boxes, softer cardboard such as shoe boxes, cereal boxes and tissue boxes. Please flatten all cardboard so it fits in your container. For multiple flattened corrugated boxes, please bundle and tie. You can put large amounts next to your recycling container. 2. You can now recycle these items: Aluminum cans, Metal food cans, Glass bottles and jars, Plastic bottles and small containers with these numbers printed at the bottom of the container….#1, #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 (no number 6) 3. A triangle shape made with arrows with a number inside of it displays the number of the container. If an item does not display a number(then it is NOT ACCEPTABLE ) in this program. 4. Never put these items in your curbside container: Styrofoam of any kind, Plastic film or bags of any kind, Plastic picnicware (plates, cups, utensils and tablecloths), Plastic toys of any kind, Dirty, wet or greasy food-contaminated items, Wood or tree waste, Scrap Metal. 5. No Plastic Bags: Use only a bin or can. 6. Place your recycling at the curb the “night before” the pick up dates. 7. Decal stickers are available at the park office to place on your containers. 8. Follow these simple steps to recycle: Remove caps and lids before discarding, Rinse your items, Put everything loose in the same recycling container.
The aluminum can program is still and will remain strong and will remain a money maker for the H.O.A. PLEASE continue to help. Use more aluminum cans and drop off down in the RV section and that location has not changed.

Women’s Club School Supplies Donation
Thanks goes to our Women’s Club and our community for all the supplies that was donated. It was overwhelming to see so much support for such a needy cause. My granddaughter, Lou Lou, age six, came over to spend the night only to find her bed totally covered with all the bags. She wondered what was in them and where she was going to sleep. I told her about the children at Lacoochee and how the majority of the families were very poor and could not afford to buy supplies for them. I told her that Katy and Marge were coming over that afternoon to help sort them all out. Lou Lou wanted to help and brought all the bags out to us and some were pretty heavy. The Women’s Club usually donated $200.00 for bookbags. This year the school has a great supply of them. I asked the staff what they could use and they need electric pencil sharpeners and copy paper. Some of the children come to school with pants that are too big because that is all that they have. They don’t have belts and are falling down or are using rope to hold them up. I have been going to thrift shops and garage sales and picking them up and donating them to the school. My thanks again for your greatly appreciated donations. I thank Katy, Marge, and Lou Lou, for all your help and my husband, Rick for helping to pick up and deliver the supplies. A LIST OF DONATIONS: 75 boxes of crayons, 11 pencil boxes, 8 rulers, 68 spiral notebooks, 81 folders, 21 pks of notebook paper, 61 single and packs of glue sticks, 36 notebooks, 14 bookbags, 17 crayon markers, 20 scissors, 63 colored pencils, 13 pks Of erasers, 62 pks of pencils, 13 pks of erasers, 5 binders, 7 pks of pens, 3 pks of post its, 6 boxes of tissues, 2 bottles of sanitizers, 8 small sanitizers, 1 pk of baby wipes, 1 pk of 3x5 cards, 2 highlighters, 2 disinfectant wipes, 6 crayon sharpeners, 3 packs of baggies, 3 pencil pouches, 10 pencil coloring books, 10 pks of scented pencils. Southfork Women’s Club
Summer season is coming to an end for the Women’s Club and with all the great monthly lunches, we have decided to end the season with a picnic luncheon and sure hope all of you will attend. Our regular meetings start back the 1st Wednesday of October.
We’re having a potluck style picnic at the pavilion weather permitting on September 5th at 11am. If you have any questions, call Gail Young.
Bring a salad type dish to share and we do need some cookies or brownies to go along with that sweet taste we need after eating.
We also would like for you to wear or bring a favorite thrift store/garage sale item and share your thrifting experience. We know everyone has a favorite story about looking and buying items at garage sales, thrift stores or wherever. We look forward to hearing some of your adventures and hope you will be willing to participate with attentive ears.
There will be a fifty/fifty drawing and who knows you may be the lucky one.
Please sign up at the clubhouse and let us know what you are bringing.
Monday Morning Coffee Hour New Start time is 8:30am Sept 3rd
Each week on Monday mornings from 8:30am to 9:30am there is always coffee brewing which is free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry and they are $.50 each. What a good way to meet some of your neighbors and start your week. The men are usually talking about the latest sport event on TV and the women are always talking about the latest happenings in the community. No agenda or speakers, just a chance for our community to come together. Bring your smile and wit and we’ll furnish your coffee. We would love to get to know all of our new neighbors and the others who have been in hibernation lately.
WELCOME BACK
WOW!!!!! It is hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is nearing and summer is quickly coming to an end. It seems like just last week that the season was just beginning and the snowbirds were leaving. I hope it has been a good and healthy summer season for all of you. It has been a good summer here at Southfork and now, in just a few short weeks, most of the snowbirds will be back and many of the activities and games will be starting again.
FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!!!!!!
September 23rd is the first day of autumn but here in Florida it is like any other day of the year. Up North you are already thinking of cold weather, snow and ice and we here in Florida can only go by the news media on what is happening and not missing the cold but we sure do miss the fall colors. So to all of us here in Florida, relax and enjoy with no worries about shovels or freezing cold!!!!

(Beware of Charitable Solicitations by Phone)
The Florida Sheriffs Association advises people to be aware of telemarketers soliciting donations by phone. Even though it is legal for organizations and associations to solicit by telephone, the Florida Sheriffs do not endorse fundraising projects or advertising sales conducted by telephone.
Here listed below are a few precautions:
1. Don’t act immediately. You are entitled to request and receive information about the charity in writing before donating. 2. Verify the charitable organization is registered with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services by calling (800) 4357352 or visiting www.800helpfla.com to obtain a copy of registration documents and a financial statement. 3. File complaints about possible fraud by contacting the Florida Office of the Attorney General at (8660966-7226 or www.myfloridalegal.com. 4. Reduce unwanted sales calls by registering a phone number received with the National Do Not Call Registry by calling (888)382-1222 or visiting www.donotcall.gov.
RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS! Submitted by Kathy Gallick & Tim & Megan Kelly, Managers
It has been noted that on occasion, pet owners are not always responsible. Let's all be responsible and when walking your pet, always be sure to carry that extra bag, tissue, or whatever your pleasure might be to pick up after them. Please, always, pick up after your pet, where ever the need. Remember, not just the Dog area, if nature calls them before you get to that area, by bushes, or on someone's lawn, where no one walks, It must be picked up. Other pets walk in that area, let's not spread disease. I don't travel to the dog area, I like Wilds road, always, always picking up, whether in bushes, visible, or not visible. I have often done the deed that other owners have not, and of course, others from neighboring communities might walk their pets, and we can't do much about that. In our dog area, end of Ewing, usually only Southfork folk use it. Don't ever leave that present for your neighbor, you would not like it and neither do they. Please, also, don't allow your pet to urinate on neighbors lawns. Unseen, but other pets will gravitate to that spot, it's what they do. We love our pets, be responsible, some folk taking that daily walk and that might be their only pleasure for the day and need not be subjected to stepping in or avoiding your pets "poop." Thank you all, we are a great community, let's keep it clean. Thanks, Kathy Gallick
Since they can’t do it themselves, can we please be respectful of others and clean up after our pets. Thanks Tim & Megan
Just a reminder that all jobs serviced in the community is the responsibility of each resident and does not in any way reflect on the Southfork management.
