Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Have a great month!
August 2018
I am a Seenager (Senior Teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 60 years later. I don’t have to go to school or work, I get an allowance every month, I have my own pad, I don’t have a curfew, I have a driving license and drive my own car. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant and they aren’t scared of anything. They have been blessed to live this long, so why be scared? Life is Good! Also you will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager. Brains of older people are slow because they know so much and people do not decline mentally with age. It just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear. Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full. The human brain works slower in old age but only because we have stored more information over time and do not get weak ,. On the contrary, they simply know more. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem. It is nature’s way of making older people do more exercise. SO THERE!

Summer time and tired of doing nothing because it is to hot???
Well, plan on a “Full potluck meaning that everyone brings everything and that includes: Hot Dishes, Salads, Veggie Plates, Casseroles, Desserts (of course) or whatever you would like to bring. HOA will provide the Iced Tea and Lemonade.
Please bring a covered dish enough to serve at least 8 people and please bring your own tableware of plates, silverware and your beverage if you do not want the tea or lemonade
Sign Up Sheet will be at the clubhouse so we know how many will be attending and the entire community is invited.
Come and enjoy your meal with your friends and neighbors.
from Tom’s desk. HELLO SOUTHFORK HOW ARE YOU DOING WITH THE HEAT AND THE ALL MOST DAILY THUNDER STORMS? WE ARE A LOT BETTER THAN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY THAT HAVE FIRE AND FLOODS. THE PARK IS LOOKING REAL GOOD THANKS TO MEGAN AND TIM.
WE HAD A GREAT TURN OUT FOR THE 4TH OF JULY. WE WILL BE HAVING A POT LUCK ON AUGUST 14TH. IF ANY BODY HAS ANY IDEAS FOR SOMETHING TO DO AFTER THE DINNER TO HOLD OUR INTEREST LET ME KNOW. WE ALWAYS SEEM TO EAT AND RUN.
PLEASE RESPECT THE SPEED LIMIT IN THE PARK AND WATCH OUT FOR GOLF CARTS. OUR ENTERTAINMENT DIRECTOR BOB BRAVINDER IS WORKING HARD TO GET US QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT. THE COST OF ENTERTAINERS GOES UP EVERY YEAR. WE WILL DEAL WITH IT. TILL NEXT TIME .
TOM
Forget your troubles for a moment and have a laugh………… I think all of us have had a trying time at one time or another and every now and then we need something to laugh about or for. Thought maybe a cartoon or two would give us something to take our minds off our problems. Have a great month and enjoy life while you can!!!

Summer and soon Fall approaches and so many changes occur in nature and in some cases there are changes in our lives also due to sickness or death. The dictionary defines a community as a group of individuals who live in the same area or community like ours is. What better community for retirement then Southfork , our home. The mixture of backgrounds and experiences is what shapes us and then we all come together to share and interact with one another in our daily lives. Whether it is due to house repairs or illness or even death , helping our neighbors is not a requirement but a true blessing and then attending the many events here at the Clubhouse to interact makes us “family”. It is in Southfork where the true meaning of a community comes to light where the caring and concern is displayed by the residents. All the residents should feel extra special of how blessed we are to be here ! We should be enjoying life to the fullest.
Meet & Greet new managers Tim & Megan Kelly Clubhouse was filled to capacity with 90 plus residents in attendance for this July 4th potluck. Food was awesome and more than enough to feed all. All got to meet our new managers who have taken the community like bees to honey. We are fortunate to have such a loving couple.
Photo’s submitted by Dot Cady for this great get together on July 4th.
This is what our great community is all about.

WELCOME RESIDENTS AND NEIGHBORS Come and join us Wednesday’s for BINGO Starting on August 1st we are adding “2 new specials” which is entirely new. The first special is called “Red White Blue” and is a double bingo only. If you win on either the red or white you get a lesser amount but if you bingo on the “blue” you get the entire winner takes all. Its possible it will be 2 games but if the blue is hit first, it will be winner take all and no red or white will be played and it takes the place of the “X” special. Sheets will be $1.00 each. The 2nd special is called the “Dual Dab” and something very different. It is a bingo sheet with 2 numbers in each block. If one of the numbers in the block is called both numbers will be dabbed and considered as 1. It is a coverall (winner take all) and the sheets are also a $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The bingo doors open at 3:30pm, early bird games start @5:45pm and regular bingo starts at 6:30pm. Come early to get your bingo sheets because our first event of the evening @6:30 is a 50/50 . Tickets are 3 stubs for $1.00 or 7 for $2.00 with the winner receiving ½ of the intake and then 10 other winners are picked and each receives a free special. Besides these 50/50’s and regular games, we have specials ( last special of the evening is a 2 part game and the 2nd game depending on the crowd pays close to $100.00 or more) and we even have the “cookie jar” and the lucky number for the evening on the regular games gets the accumulated amount which is carried over week to week if no winners. No matter what you hear our bingo is really great and you have a great chance with winning some of our great prizes. So come and join us for a night of fun and chance instead of sitting at home. If you never played there are many who will show and guide you through the evening. We are here to help and interact with our neighbors! Submitted by Marielle and the Bingo Committee

Non-profits ( to leave out ) of your holiday donations Before you donate, please read the below articles:
1.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
They are the most misleading non-profit out there. Since their name is “humane society,” many donors falsely assume that their donations are distributed among animal shelters nationwide. In reality, HSUS does not operate or fund a single animal shelter. In fact, only 0.45% of their more than $99 million annual operating budget goes to animal shelters. The Humane Society of the US has over $50 million in offshore accounts in the Caribbean. The HSUS paid nearly $11 million to settle a racketeering lawsuit. The Better Business Bureau has removed its accreditation of HSUS.
2. American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) If you’ve ever seen one of ASPCA’s famous commericals featuring Sarah McLachlan, chances are you thought ASPCA was an organization focused on helping companion animals such as cats and dogs. In reality, ASPCA uses some of their donations to aid other animal rights extremists groups who oppose meat consumption and family farmers. One of the issues ASPCA has been most vocal about opposing is a family farmer’s right to give antibiotics to our sick animals. I don’t understand why ASPCA supports legislation that would make it illegal to give sick farm animals medications! Why would anyone want to force an animal to suffer through an infection that one simple medication could heal? On a more local note, the ASPCA’s national website features a page specifically dedicated to contacting the Kentucky Livestock Care Standards Commission about the aspects of their proposed animal care standards opposed by ASPCA! Not exactly what you’d expect from a group that’s focused on helping puppies and kittens, is it? So what organizations should you donate to this holiday season? My advice is to give locally, whether that means your local animal shelter, food bank or free clinic. By giving locally you have the opportunity to talk face to face with the organization’s employees and can gather as much information as you want about how your donations will be used. In today’s tough economic times, knowing that your donations are actually helping those in need is more important than ever. Submitted by, Marielle Quain
