Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS Have a great month!
July 2018
The Flag
Red for the blood shed in the name of Freedom, for which we fought, united. Blue for the oceans of time we have crossed, remaining the land of the free. White for the peace we wish to share, all men created equal. Stars to remember those who fought throughout the night, bravely for our land. Stripes to remind us of the lashings taken by the Prisoners of War. With a seal, in God we trust, We each are one of many, in which we stand united in Brotherhood. A symbol of Pride A salute to those who died in the fight, A blanket to cover us in times of need. Waving high to show we are still here, undefeated With honor you are presented to the world

New Years Eve Party 2018-2019 This is the first article, seven are planned, one each month. Everything you need to know about the New Years Eve Party and some you don’t. Three years ago our HOA announced the New Years Eve Party was not scheduled. They cited financial concerns. Phyllis Fisher found a DJ with a very affordable fee, volunteered to be responsible, and the party was on. Bob [the DJ] was instructed we do not want to be entertained. We wanted 60’s music we could dance to and at a volume that would allow table conversation. We were pleased. Thanks to Bob Stevens; Okeydokey DJ Services. With tips, he was happy. We scheduled Bob for last year, and again this year.
Phyllis F. also determined we do not need an all you can eat buffet at 10:00 PM. She suggested attendees should bring their own snack in necessary. A table was provided to share their excess snacks with others. This appeared to be successful and saved more money. These savings allowed a huge reduction in the price to attend. Phyllis F. estimated 80 people would attend, at $5.00 per person, a $400.00 a budget. She had some very nice door prizes. Some door prizes were donations from some very nice people. Thanks again. And the balance of the proceeds was returned to attendees via cash door prizes. She had NO complaints.
More next month, in Southfork News. Submitted by Patrick & Phyllis Fisher
Southfork Women’s Club
June’s monthly get together was at the “The Green Door” restaurant and interaction with fellow members and friends was really great.
The next Women’s Club monthly summer luncheon will be on Wednesday, July 11th at Ruby Tuesday’s at 11:00.am.
Please note that this monthly breakfast is being held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month because July 4th falls on the first Wednesday.
Please sign up so we get an accurate count for the restaurant.
See you there. Gail Young, V.P.
Women’s Club Bazaar
This year's Bazaar will be held on Saturday November 17th from 8am to noon in the clubhouse. The craft show portion of the bazaar is very popular and the tables are filling up fast. Currently there are only 4 more tables available. I have a few vendors from outside the park that are interested but I would like to give Southfork residents priority at a cost of $5 for an 8' table. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested. I will have this wrapped up before August 28. Along with the gift basket raffle we are going to have a silent auction this year. I am looking for residents to donate items to be auctioned off as well as asking people to offer services that they can perform to help others in the park who need them. Some examples are: hanging pictures, cooking a dinner, one time house cleaning, raking a yard, trip to the airport, doctor or shopping, washing windows, washing a car, spreading mulch. We would welcome anything you can do to help a neighbor. As in past years, we will also have a bake sale, a quilt raffle and a sloppy joe lunch. The ladies in the Women's Club really step up to volunteer their time and energy to make this a success. Half of all proceeds from this are donated to charities in our local area. Everyone in Southfork can help us reach our goals to give to those less fortunate by donating to the bake sale and the silent auction but most importantly by coming to the bazaar.
There are sign up sheets in the clubhouse or contact me, Sue Kerschner at 803-968-6028.

Thanks To All the Volunteers “Unsung Heroes of Our Community” It would be next to impossible to conduct the many social activities and the entertainment, newsletter with input by residents, breakfasts, potlucks, bingo, card games, Womens Club, new resident visits, Monday Coffee Hour, Movie Night and the list goes on and on without the help of so many volunteers. This community would not be where it is today with out the free time and help that is given. This includes many hours because it is continuous and never ending and especially for the same people who do the same things year after year.
We have the servers at the events, the set up/take down crews, the 50/50 salespeople, block captains and so many others who do so much along with the taking care of the signs and selling and making of event tickets and the list is never ending!
The next time you attend an affair, be sure to extend your thanks for all of their hard work and effort. There is always room for more volunteers to join in and help out.
Remember, without volunteers how boring this community would be and we need you all to help keep it an active “55”” plus community as advertised. So try and remember this, if something is not going the way you would like it , you might then be asked to help at the next function and that means another volunteer was recruited . Thanks to all!!!!! Submitted by, Phyllis Grossi
No Bingo in July Summer season is upon us and the bingo committee decided to give all the volunteer workers a little break with some time off during July. Bingo will be closed starting with and including July 4th and start back on August 1st. Come back and join us on August 1st with some new games being added and a lot of fun winning!!!! Any questions, contact Marielle Quain.
DISTRAUGHT SENIOR CITIZEN
A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor’s office. “Is it true that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?” “Yes, I’m afraid so,” the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, “Just how serious is my condition? This prescription is marked “NO REFILLS.”
SOUTHFORK TELEPHONE DIRECTORY & Email Address’s This is just a reminder to everyone here in the park about the deadline for changes, deletions, or additions for our Phone Directory. The deadline for all changes must be submitted by December 1st each year. I am getting a head start so that I have all correct info before directories are sent to be processed. Please note that the office does not do any updating for the phone directory and all info must be submitted to Phyllis Grossi. On a regular basis I also send out mass emails to all residents when there are any happenings or excitement here in Southfork, passing of residents, weather related issues such as hurricanes and shelter info and management special announcements for those that are not in our Southfork facebook group. Just a reminder our facebook community group is a closed group and only Southfork residents can view or post and no one else outside of Southfork can see any postings. Also needed information for all residents and any 2nd resident or spouse with name, address, phone number, email address , birth date to Phyllis Grossi for an update for the directory and newsletter. FURBIES AND FEATHERED FRIENDS OF SOUTHFORK Just a note regarding our article, I’ll be starting it again for the September issue….so get those little furbies and feathered friends all ready for their “mug” shots for the future issues! Please call me and we will get them in the news ….I need your input to continue, so call 863-602-1535 after July 15th. Thank you! Jean Deiss
A Very Special Note from all Southfork to Phyllis Grossi! Kudos to Phyllis, our Chief Editor for the Southfork Newsletter! She does an awesome job in preparing the newsletter each month and works very hard to keep us all informed. Not only that, but she maintains the Facebook Account “You Know You’re From Southfork”, also! Phyllis is definitely an integral part of our everyday lives and our go-between to make sure all who live here are safe and made aware! Thank you PHYLLIS GROSSI! YOU ARE SO VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
Just a reminder that all jobs serviced in the community is the responsibility of each resident and does not in any way reflect on the Southfork management.
