A Message from the President . . . . .

Dear Friends and Neighbors, March is a busy month from beginning to end starting with our Annual Vendor Fair on Thursday, March 8 from 10-1 at the clubhouse. It promises to be beneficial for all. On the following Saturday, March 10th is our annual Garage Sale, still time to sign up if you haven’t. On St. Patty’s day we’ll have corn beef and cabbage along with “green beer” compliments of Phil at the clubhouse. The end of the month we have our Spring Activities which typically we say “good bye” for the summer to all our neighbors from the North. We start with a Spring Dance with a fun DJ (even for those who don’t dance – he promises to make you laugh) on Friday night, March 23rd and our Spring Fling with Easter Parade on Tuesday, March 27th ending at the lake for our cook-out.

We conducted our first Board Meeting and General Meeting in February with our new board. If you missed our meetings please know we’re doing our best for each of you and your suggestions or comments are welcomed. The board has agreed that we have at least one board member on all our committees so you know we all want to work together. We still need people to help on the Statutory Committee and the Nominating Committee. Please see myself or any board member if you are interested in having your input in these or any other committees.

Donations have increased since our last report. The Holiday wreath raffle proceeds converted to 500 lbs. of food, totals now stand @ 1196 lbs. We have had excellent participation in just over a year. Together Dale and Janet had wished to move away from Missouri and the situation arose when Dale's health was failing. With 2 sons and 5 grandchildren

in Florida the decision was made to make Florida their home. Florida is without a doubt, their home!

Janet enjoys making handmade cards and scrapbooks and would like to continue teaching these paper-crafts. She'd love to start a group in Lake Hammock. Dale's pleasures include fishing and golfing, he is always looking for a buddy to join him.

Janet and Dale appreciate new adventures, they love traveling and playing cards.

As they travel the park on their golf cart stop to say hi and to their dog, chimichonga. Chimi loves to ride to the lake and most residents in Lake Hammock are familiar with chimi and her funny ways!

Dale, wife Janet, and daughter Kristal Gruer celebrated their one-year anniversary living in Lake Hammock in January of this year.

Janet and Dale met over 21 years ago at a county fair falling in love quickly! Together they share 6 children and 10 grandchildren with the youngest 9 years old and the oldest a whopping 22 years old.

Dale was born and raised in Missouri of a farming family and community having mastered mechanics of many small engines. Dale has a CDL spending many years transporting heavy equipment and other items. Dale enjoys repairing most equipment from weed eaters, chain saws and lawnmowers.

Janet was raised in California and moved to Missouri years later. Her extensive education in is the legal and medical fields with years of advocacy specializing in the disability arena. She has spent her career also working with legislators and the governor's offices to improve the lives of those in the minority status. She continues to support the disabled in Florida belonging to state and federal boards and agencies.

Their daughter, Kristal is 34 years old and requires constant care. Her parents will answer any questions you might have about her.

SCHULTZ’S FAMILY FOUNDATION HOPE LODGE Article submitted by: Joyce Wright The Richard M. Schultz’s Family Foundation Hope Lodge, Tampa, FL. Is a short-term residential facility designed to offer housing and support free of charge to any cancer patient who travels to the Tampa Bay Area for treatment.

March Madness The expression, "March Madness," was first used in 1939

by Henry V. Porter, a high school basketball coach in Illinois. The term was used to describe the excitement about the Illinois state tournament for boy's basketball.

Today, the term is used by sports promoters and fans, especially for basketball. Commercials and promotions that advertise sales for retail merchants also frequently use the term, "March Madness."

Weather Proverbs for the Month of March Weather in March can be turbulent, and frequently changing. There are numerous traditional sayings and phrases that refer to the weather, well-known adages that help us be prepared for this stormy month.

"When March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb" is an English proverb that has been shortened to "March: In like a lion, out like a lamb."

While this saying is anecdotal and not true every year, the phrase has been taught to millions of

The Cherokee name for the full moon in March is "Windy Moon," referring to the winds of March.

There are many versions of the March Hare, a character originally created by Lewis Carroll in his famous book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Disney classic and modern renditions portray the hare as distracted and frantic, possibly modeled after cultural perceptions of rabbits' behavior in spring.

St. Patrick's Day Sayings and Irish Blessings Cultural lore and tradition has evolved in the U.S. throughout the years, as the celebration of St. Patrick's Day has become more commercialized.

Wearing green, lucky clovers, and leprechauns have all become tradition.

"Luck of the Irish," "pinch me, I'm Irish," and "there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow" are all expressions related to the Irish and St. Patrick's Day. Many Irish blessings are well-known, as well, including the following popular Irish Catholic blessing: "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand."
