The Gift of a New Year Here’s to the year that’s almost past its expiration date—(12/31/2017). We all had some surprises, didn’t we? Some good, some distressing. Let’s use everything we got from our experiences, everything we learned, to enrich the new year. Here’s to the new year, (1/01/2018), a gift we haven’t opened yet. May its bright, shiny package contain even more than we hope for. And even while we’re delighting in new treasures, let’s appreciate fully what we already have— the blessings we take for granted. “ Make a list, and check it twice.” And here’s to all you wonderful people (wave glass around to encompass the whole group who are putting up with my toast; I hope in the new year you see yourselves the way I see you: intelligent, interesting, and likable. Southfork Annual Association Meeting
What: Our annual homeowner’s meeting is a chance to meet new neighbors, catch up with old friends and discuss local issues. This January meeting has been designated by our by-laws to be the first meeting of the fiscal year with the election of new officer’s and directors. Please plan to attend and learn what’s happening in Southfork!

Why: It’s your neighborhood, too! With our combined efforts, we can continue to make our community a better social environment with better communication to everyone. We need everyone’s support to help and vote on issues that everyone is happy with! It is next to impossible to please everyone but there are ways to try and appease most of the people. If there is anyone who is interested in being an officer or run as a director your name must be handwritten in on the already printed ballot because nominations were closed at the November membership meeting! Who: You, the homeowners, must have your yearly dues paid by January 10th in order to vote for any new officer/director’s. The annual yearly dues is $20.00 per household and only one (1) member of each household is eligible to vote. Submit payment to Secretary, Peggy Elkins 11044 Ewing Dr or place in the suggestion box in the lobby of the clubhouse. How: No need to RSVP, just show up! Reason: We need more than one candidate for each office to run. If there is only 1 person for each office with no competition, elections will be held and the slate is automatically given to the only ones listed for each office. So, if you want “change” this is the time to do it!!! Please, come and submit your name or your ideas.

Southfork Women’s Club met for the last meeting of 2017 The Highlights:
The Bazaar was a huge success, chaired by Carol Whitbeck, with the helping hands of her husband Craig and the many ladies volunteering their skills! The profit of $1,253.82 was divided to give the Charity Committee an additional $626.91. Total raised in 2017 was $1,198.36. Which is really only the tip of the Iceberg! Southfork has “the most generous Women l have ever met”. We have successful container drives, for supplies needed by Day Star, School Supplies, Easter and Christmas dinners, etc. When there is a need, they have answered! Carol Whitbeck was presented flowers, and a Certificate of Appreciation, with a standing ovation! She has been “the gal behind the scenes, Vice President,etc! CHRISTMAS PARTY, was hosted by Carol Albers and Katie Bellnier which followed the meeting......Quoting one of the ladies who attended “the tables were beautifully decorated, with little gifts for everyone, the company delightful, the food was delicious and the gift exchange game was fun........a really enjoyable day!”

A wonderful time was had by all at our Christmas Meeting. The gals did an outstanding job presenting us with a delightful morning. Special thanks was given to a wonderful lady, Carol Whitbeck. Carol has always been there when anything was ever needed, serving as an officer as well as extra volunteering in all areas. Craig and Carol are such an asset to our community. But, also, a special thanks to our president Dot Cady who has always done an outstanding job for our Women's Club and is always an asset to our Southfork Community. There will be a changing of the guard come January for our Women's Club. Thanks to all who have made 2017 such a successful year. Officers, volunteers and all who have helped. Best wishes to incoming officers. May 2018 be fruitful for all.

Recap of HOA meeting in November The HomeOwners Association had their first (1st) meeting of the season on Monday, 11/27/2017. Just a few things that were talked about and voted on.
Year 2018 only…….Annual dues will be $10.00 per household. This was voted on by the membership at the meeting because of the extra money in HOA account. No matter when you pay during the year 2018 it will be $10.00 but then in year 2019 the dues will be $20.00 again. Carport Sales……..Starting in year 2018 it was voted on to have 2 Carport Sales a year. Watch the newsletter for dates of the sales. 1 in the Spring and 1 in the Fall. Nominations………All the current officers and directors are staying but at the January meeting on the 4th Monday, nominations can and will be taken from the floor and will be write ins only and be available for a vote. Activities………..Looking for suggestions of movie names to be used in the monthly movie nights. If you have any contact Lonnie Layne or Carolyn McAdams.
SOUTHFORK BRIDGE CLUB (Women & Men) WELCOME TO ALL We meet every Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 - 3:00 in the Club House. We are looking for NEW players. GAMES/GROUPS IN SOUTHFORK Is it possible that all the people who are in charge of any game activity and also quilting here in Southfork, please send me info (pkaygrossi@aim.com ) so that I can start placing as an article in the newsletter. Tell a little about the group and what all it involves. I would like to have at least 1 game/group activity a month featured and this helps all the newer residents in case they would like to come up and join all who are playing or meeting as a group. Many have heard of the various games/activities and this would be a great invite to all. Let’s get all involved and share our fun! Check out next page for the first article!
MEN’S BREAKFAST GROUP
There are a group of guys who have been meeting for at least 4 to 5 years for a monthly breakfast. It started out as monthly and everyone enjoyed themselves so much they changed to a twice a month get together. They started meeting at the IHOP and it got a little costly so they changed to meeting at “Smitty’s” in Dade City by the produce stand and have been there ever since and the breakfast is at 9am. The breakfast group has had upwards to 15 or more hungry men and this group really likes to eat. I think it’s what they do best. Now this is a men’s only group and a way to talk and tease each other with out having to watch their manner with their woman around to correct. (smile). This is not a club or connected to any group and is open to all men of the community. The group meets on the First (1st) and Third (3rd) Friday of each month. Why not come out and have breakfast with all of the guys and interact and get to know one another. What a good way to meet with your special friends twice a month. Pax performs many comedy impressions, including Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau, Truman Capote and Tonto. He also does vocal impressions of Gloria Gaynor, Johnny Cash, Ethel Merman, plus many ethnic voice impersonations. Together they blend musical variety, comedic satire, and a unique goofy-ness that is hard to contain under one small roof!
There is no end to their material and this is one of the finest for our first New Year shows.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Management, HOA, HOA spouses, volunteers and all who made Thanksgiving Day so very pleasant for so many. Approximately 80 or more residents, family, and friends enjoyed a wonderful meal together. To the gals and guys that worked so very hard preparing the turkey, setting up, making certain we all enjoyed the day. A big Thank You. Our pledge to our flag, a prayer of thanksgiving offered by our president, Tom, and the story of the parrot, all well received. To the gals and guys who prepared the "Pot Luck" part of our meals, to the gals cutting and serving desserts, and there were many to choose from, job well done. Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and Happy And Healthy New Year. I love our community, love our country. God Bless America.

I want to thank all the people who helped to make my Bingo a success. Pat Grossi who was my caller for many years and also made the coffee every week. He was very patient . Phyllis Grossi who was always there to work with the Horse Races and now with the UPIK-UM’s making it a success with a big jackpot over $100.00 each week. Carol Melia works with the "warm-up’s” and very gracefully put the sets together. M.J. Cline who is my assistant selling the sets and counting all that money and also the cookie Jar. Linda Belesky who was selling the 50/50 and came to help even on 1 foot. Now this is dedication. Thanks also to our 2 new callers Phyllis Fisher and Jim Belesky who are very patient in learning the Bingo machine. Peggy Elkins and Katie Bellnier who helped me a lot and also replaced me when I was not available. Thanks also to Pat Denton and Louise Murray who helped for a few weeks. Bill Laforest and Harvey Barber who call back the numbers when there is a bingo.. Thanks also to everyone who supported my Bingo. I could not have done it without you and thanks to anyone else I may have overlooked.. As you can see this is a very large activity and all these people are giving a minimum of 4 to 6 hours each week. That is true dedication. . P.S. FURBIES AND FEATHERED FRIENDS OF SOUTHFORK
Here She Is! Little Miss Dade (AKA Miss America), with her proud owner, KATHY GALLICK! Miss Dade is a 13 year old, light apricot, pure bred Poodle. Miss Dade has been with Kathy from four months of age. She’s been there for Kathy through a lot of difficult times and is a best friend! Miss Dade is so very sweet and well behaved! She likes her daily strolls up to Wild Road and then gets her “Chicken Yappy Hours” treat! We know that’s her favorite! Miss Dade’s favorite toy is a squeaky elephant. So…if you see these two gals out for their daily walks, drive safe, and give them a big “howdy.”
Another Pretty Woman! This is TOTO, a full blooded Shih Tzu! She turned 10 years old on 12/17 and a loyal friend to DOT CADY (since she was three months old)! Dot says “Toto’s a real sweetheart and well behaved, but she does get an attitude once in a while!” She gets her outside time four times a day. Dot was without a dog for over three years until her neighbor’s (The Sanborns) son, Gary, brought Toto into her life! Toto seems to think that everyone who comes to the door is there to visit and play with her! Ha! So this is almost “all in the family” pet month! (see more below)
Meet the Sanborns! This is Bob with his two Shih Tzu’s. Bob and Carol are proud owners of BIG GUY and ROCKY! They are from their son, Gary’s, breeder cup AND they have the same parents! Little Big Guy is 10 years old and will be 11 in February. Rocky just turned 10 in December! Rocky is from the same litter as Toto (above)! Amazing they are neighbors now all from the same parents! Now, Big Guy loves toys, but Rocky doesn’t…that makes them different. However, they are both good watch dogs and very well behaved! You’ll see them with Bob and Carol on their walks to the doggie park! Tell ‘em “hi” when you see them. They are so sweet!

Share a Memory from Childhood
It’s truly interesting when one is in a pensive mood and the many things that can be recalled in your mind which took place many, many years ago in your youth. What can you remember during, grade school days, junior high school, senior high school, best friends, dating, getting married and so many other things in your younger life time. Do they bring a smile or a frown? I thought maybe we could have some residents give a little story on something so very long ago that is one of these memories. A little humor in it would give for some good reading. Would you like to see this as an article in the newsletter if interest is shown? Maybe one of our residents can be a reporter and gather some info that would be a great article for all to read? Here below is an example of a story back in grade school. I remember my first grade teacher back in 1945 and her name was Mrs Keys. She was on the chubby side and wore glasses but I really liked her and learned a lot. At this age, no one was about to disobey her. She would give us some work to do, such as printing the alphabet or arithmetic with numbers up to 10 or under. Then she would stand facing a window that viewed a giant tree out in the school yard while we were working. All of a sudden if we were standing up or whispering to our friends she would say, “Sit down Johnny” or “Stop talking Mary” without turning away from the window. We all knew to behave because she had magic and we knew, she knew everything. That befuddled us until one day I came into the classroom before she got there and walked over to “that” window. Oh my goodness I found out why she knew magic. I saw a perfect image of the classroom because the tree acted as a blocking and put together with the window pane, made it look like a mirror. Now I had a secret to share with my classmates and could not wait to tell the news about the magic. Needless to say we still behaved but learned how to get out of the way for her not to see what all was going on!!!! So with this I hope you like the idea and sure hope many will come forward with some good stories on any thing you would like to pass on for all of us to read and smile…………….yes, we probably will all have a lot in common with a lot of good laughs and memories. You don’t have to use your name except submitted by a resident. Looking forward to any input on this suggestion. I think it will be a lot of fun.
