Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Have a great month!

September

Grandparents Day – Sept 10, 2017

Grandparents are special people with wisdom and pride. They are always offering love and kindness and are always there to guide.

They often make you feel so confident and strong. Their arms are always open no matter what you did wrong. They try to help out in every way that they can.

They love all their grandchildren the same whether you're a child, woman or man. They are always there to listen and to lend a helping hand. They show you respect and they try to understand. They give their love, devotion and so much more, that's easy to see.

Grandparents, what perfect examples of the kind of person that we should be. - Stacy Smith

WELCOME BACK WOW!!!!! It is hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is nearing and summer is quickly coming to an end. It seems like just last week that the season was just beginning and the snowbirds were leaving. I hope it has been a good and healthy summer season for all of you. It has been a good summer here at Southfork and now, in just a few short weeks, most of the snowbirds will be back and many of the activities and meetings will be starting again.

FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!!!!!! September 22nd is the first day of autumn but here in Florida it is like any other day of the year. Up North you are already thinking of cold weather, snow and ice and we here in Florida can only go by the news media on what is happening and not missing the cold but we sure do miss the fall colors. So to all of us here in Florida, relax and enjoy with no worries about shovels or freezing cold!!!! _____________________________________________________________________________________

from Tom’s desk.

WELL WE ARE ROLLING THRU SUMMER AS OF THIS WRITING SO FAR SO GOOD. WE HOPE THIS CONTINUES. BUT WE MUST NOT LET OUR GUARD DOWN IN STORM PREPARATION. LET'S ALL BE SAFE. SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION SO WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS AND SCHOOL BUSES. THANK GOODNESS WE LIVE IN A 55 PLUS PARK OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE SCHOOL BUSES PICKING UP KIDS HERE. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. VERY SOON OUR NORTHEN NEIGHBORS WILL START TRICKLING BACK. MAKE THEM WELCOME. I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME ALL THE NEW RESIDENTS TO THE PARK, THERE ARE MANY. WE HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU JOIN THE ASSOCIATION AND BE ACTIVE IN SOME CAPACITY IN OUR LITTLE COMMUNITY . I KNOW MANY OF YOU JUST RETIRED AND MOVED HERE TO LIVE THE EASY LIFE AND THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT. BUT SOME OF YOU STILL WANT TOO BE INVOLVED IN OUR COMMUNITY SO MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN. THE ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW PEPOPLE AND NEW IDEAS. THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR TO JOIN THE ASSOCIATION IS ONLY $10 PER HOUSEHOLD SO GIVE THIS SOME THOUGHT OK. MY DOOR IS OPEN .

Article and photo’s submitted by Kathy Gallick (Monthly Women’s Club Outing)

I had to pass this one along because it sure hits home here in Southfork and the chatter was oh so familiar………..(smile)

Lunch with girlfriends Unknown Author!

Recently ate at a restaurant where a table of girlfriends of a certain age were having a wonderful time, and came home and wrote this. You may recognize somebody, maybe yourself ...

Elaine’s vertigo has never been worse and Kay can’t recall where she left her purse. Rhonda’s about to replace her knees, Linda’s breathing is tinged with a wheeze and oh poor Donna's left boob has a troublesome lump. Some people really have issues!!!! Diane’s on her third trip to the restroom and Lorraine’s husband can’t remember a thing. Nine years a widow Marge still wears her ring and Marlene is dealing with another UTI Oh Well!!!! Sally’s giving a hearing aid another try, Marie has decided she can’t drive at night and Sharon still wears clothes two sizes too tight????? They’ve been through many divorces and babies and wakes and listening to all family trauma’s. They do for each other whatever it takes and they’ve already buried Marcia and Kate and truthfully, Lizzie’s not looking so great. Thanks for every good day there is and having a listening ear!!!! So whenever they can, they get out to eat and of course open bottles of wine and forget their sore feet. There’s laughing and crying and letting down guards and when the bill comes, there’s ten credit cards …. So here’s to the waiters who keep orders straight (love them), and to the places that let lunches run three hours late so we all can relate on the latest………… And here’s to the girlfriends, those near and those far, here's to the girlfriends, you know who you are!

Bingo Caller Needed!

We need 1 or 2 backup callers that could help out on Wednesday evenings. This would be a weekly event and we need a dedicated person who can work from 5pm to approx 9pm. The bingo machine is a verifier with bingo patterns already loaded in and it is just learning the mechanics of using the machine which is a must and training will be given. Can you project your voice and “have a soft spot for the senior citizens?” They do take the game seriously and love their bingo. We need a dedicated person who maybe knows a little about bingo but not a must and you can learn as you go along. It’s a volunteer position, so we’re not critical. You must be available on Wednesday’s each week and if interested and would like to help please contact, Marielle Quain @352567-9634. _____________________________________________________________________________________

From The Editor

Community news is important to us and if we don’t know it, we can’t report it. Illnesses and unfortunately, deaths should be known to all that wish to share with their neighbors. But, if you have any other newsy item you wish to share, (nothing negative) please submit to Phyllis Grossi in writing or e-mail me at pkaygrossi@aim.com with the subject “Southfork.” Items can be dropped off my home at 11150 Mesquite Dr. Men’s Monthly Breakfast

All men in the community are invited to join the guys for breakfast on the first Friday and third Friday of each month. Meet to eat at 9am at Smitty’s here in Dade city.

Why Recycle?

Everyone should believe in ecology and environment and recycling is a big part of that. Southfork Homeowners Association has had a recycling program for years, but the volume has fallen way off. The recycling container for paper is at the dead end of Ewing Dr in the RV area. Probably every resident of South Fork uses a recyclable paper product every day. So recycle it, don’t throw it away. This is an easy way for you to recycle your newspaper, cardboard, magazines, junk mail, phone books, paper bags and any office paper to help raise money for SOUTHFORK community to be used for various projects and activities. PLEASE, NO PLASTIC BAGS! The 1st three months of this year, the paper income was very low. The next 2 ½ months after announcing it in our newsletter it improved a lot. This increase was the direct response of all of our Southfork folks. “Thank You”. Just a reminder, we also have a container for can recycling back in the RV area and again, please no plastic bags “REMEMBER, NO ONE SHOULD BE HELPING THEMSELVES TO THE CANS OR PAPER GOOD’S EXCEPT THE RECYCLING COMMITTEE” So please recycle, “The Recycle Man”

Good things happen after age 60

No one expects you to run------anywhere

There is nothing left to learn the hard way

You don’t bother trying to hold in your stomach, no matter who walks into the room

You can eat dinner at three pm with no questions asked why

Attention those interested in Country Dancing. Please let me make this clear. You do not have to be a couple. Come one, come all. This will not be line dancing, but fun, easy to learn pattern dances. Let's give it a try, if no interest, no problem. As for me, dancing provides, physical, mental and social enjoyment. After coffee, Monday September 25 at 9:30. If it's a go we will assign a convenient time for all. I have a commitment on Monday mornings. It's fun and good for what ails you.

See you then.

Kathy Gallick

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT? (Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's. A grandfather is a man, & a grandmother is a lady! Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't work hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money. When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars. They show us and talk to us about the colors of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.' They don't say, 'Hurry up.' Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes. They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out. Grandparents don't have to be smart. They have to answer questions like 'Why isn't God married?' and 'How come dogs chase cats?' When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again. Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us. They know we should have a snack time before bed time, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad. GRANDPA IS THE SMARTEST MAN ON EARTH! HE TEACHES ME GOOD THINGS, BUT I DON'T GET TO SEE HIM ENOUGH TO GET AS SMART AS HIM! It's funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog. So much of this article is really true…………………
