Florida and its Summer

The temperature is rising. We're in the hottest days of summer. Heat and humidity in the air are soaring Sometimes for days the rains are just pouring. This is summer with all its days full of sun and fun. People stroll the beach, and swim far beyond the sand, Beachcombers spend there their time till the sun goes down. Surfing and sunbathing is all a big part of their fun You see children running and playing, Some are so happy building sandcastles under the sun. There are people of all ages, sexes and shapes, Some are sitting, eating and laughing till the day is undone. These are the hottest days of summer right here where I live. Living in Florida for so many people can be a lot of fun all year.

OUT AND ABOUT Submitted by Kathy Gallick

Well, a few of Southfork residents made their way to Nobleton, and enjoyed dining and dancing at The River Ratz Lounge, with Mr. Johnny Lobo, our favorite playing the keyboard. Weather may have frightened a few away but we certainly enjoyed the atmosphere and company. Hey, I even got into this photo, thanks to the wait staff. Always a good time with Southfork friends. Catch you next Time! God Bless America

WE HAVE A PROBLEM BY THE RECYCLE-CANS IN THE STORAGE AREA! SOMEBODY KEEPS DROPPING PLASTIC BAGS OFF BY THE CAN RECYCLING CONTAINER ! PASCO COUNTY DOES NOT RECYCLE PLASTIC BAGS OF ANY TYPE.

PLEASE STOP DROPPING OFF YOUR PLASTIC BAGS

Throw out all plastic bags ! THE TRASH CONTAINER IS FOR PEOPLE WHO BRING CANS DOWN FOR DROP-OFF IN PLASTIC BAGS! NOT FOR BAG COLLECTION!

Your help with this problem is appreciated, Thank You Craig Whitbeck HOA Director.

WELCOME RESIDENTS AND NEIGHBORS Come and join us Wednesday’s for BINGO Starting on August 2nd we are adding “U-PIK-UMS” which is entirely new, especially in this area of Florida. This will be taking place of the “Horse Race” which we have had for many years and the pot will be bigger. It is a coverall (winner take all) and they are a duplicate sheet with 2 free spaces and you have to write in the other 7 numbers with no duplicate numbers on it. The duplicate copy is handed in for verification in case of winner or winners. This is something new and we are all excited with this added game. Sheets will be $1.00 a sheet or 4 sheets for $3.00 and this game will be played just before the last jackpot of the evening. The bingo doors open at 3:30pm, early bird games start @5:45pm and regular bingo starts at 6:30pm. Come early to get your bingo sheets because our first event of the evening @6:30 is a 50/50 . Tickets are 3 stubs for $1.00 or 7 for $2.00 with the winner receiving ½ of the intake and then 10 other winners are picked and each receives a free special. Besides these 50/50’s and regular games, we have specials ( last special of the evening is a 2 part game and the 2nd game depending on the crowd pays close to $100.00 or more) and we even have the “cookie jar” and the lucky number for the evening on the regular games gets the accumulated amount which is carried over week to week if no winners. No matter what you hear our bingo is really great and you have a great chance with winning some of our great prizes. So come and join us for a night of fun and chance instead of sitting at home. If you never played there are many who will show and guide you through the evening. We are here to help and interact with our neighbors! Submitted by Marielle and the Bingo Committee

Anyone Interested?

Just putting this out there if anyone might be interested. Thinking of offering Country Western Couples dance lessons. This is not line dancing. This would be couples, gentlemen and ladies or any couples interested and all are welcome. El Paso, Waltz, and even the Old Barn Dance. These are pattern dances, easy to learn and was thinking of Monday morning after coffee hour at 9am and that seemed to work in the past. Of course you would be listening to Brooks and Dunn and of course George Strait. I feel dancing is physically, socially and mentally advantageous. If I get some interest, will look into starting in the early Fall. Let me know your feedback. Thanks so much! Kathy Gallick

NEWSLETTERS IN SOUTHFORK The management/owners would like to see the Newsletters and any other important information given for delivery to reach every home here in the community and this helps all the homebound and sick so they have delivery at their door. I’m writing this article regarding Southfork Newsletter’s which we all receive at our door step each month. We have a problem with getting the newsletters to your home. Coverage is especially needed when any of the Block Captains are Snowbirds. We need volunteers to deliver the papers each month.

As you can see, we need HELP! So, if you have a friend who likes to walk, this venture should take no more the 15 minutes to a half hour every month and it will also give you a chance to get in some exercise. (smile)

Please Contact President of the HOA Tom Geyer if you can help. Summer Chairperson: Craig Whitbeck Winter Time Chairperson: Nancy Jones

Please don’t forget that the lot lease amount for Year 2017 is $435.00. Each month we are still receiving checks written out for different amounts. Also, if you are mailing your check, please remember to have it postmarked no later than the 6th so it will be received before the 10th. We are now receiving checks well into the middle of the month. We will have to start enforcing the $30.00 late fee for any rent check received after the 10th of each month. Thank you, Kim and Kevin Hadden

Double Pinochle If you are bored and have nothing to do on Mondays, come on to the clubhouse at noon to play a game of Double Pinochle with us. We can play tables of 4, 5 or 6 people and our games start weekly at noon..

Monday Morning Coffee Hour

Each week on Monday mornings from 8am to 9am there is always coffee brewing which is free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry and they are $.50 each. What a good way to meet some of your neighbors and start your week. The men are usually talking about the latest sport event on TV and the women are always talking about the latest happenings in the community. No agenda or speakers, just a chance for our community to come together. Bring your smile and wit and we’ll furnish your coffee. We would love to get to know all of our new neighbors and the others who have been in hibernation lately.

SOLICITORS

No solicitors are allowed in this community whether it be selling of newspaper or otherwise. Recently we have had door to door people trying to solicit various things. They tell you they are new in the area and just starting up a new business. They will want to offer something free (no such thing) and of course they want to come in to your home to explain. DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOME!!!!!!! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Do not answer your door first of all‌‌.look out the window first to see if you know who it is. If you do, ask to see a permit that they are allowed to solicit in the park. Call 911 and try to get color, make of car and a license number to give the authorities. Get a description of the people who are at your door and give to the authorities. Call the office to let them know these people are in the park. Do not get smart with them because you do not know if they have a weapon of some kind on them. Be Safe and not sorry!!!!!!

The Early Bird

We all know the early bird Catches the worm, But here in Florida, the early bird Takes on a different term. Tonight we are in for a special treat --- My honey and I, are going out to eat. C'mon Dear, shake a leg, step it up another peg. If you don't hurry we'll have to pay more, and I won't enjoy that, that's for sure. C'mon please, look like you're alive, you know the early bird ends at five. Besides, I'm so hungry I could eat a cow, can't you please get ready right now? I'm cutting the coupon out of the paper, you're takin your time, Is putting me in a fix. Oh, Oh Honey, take it easy, the early bird doesn't end till six. Little humor for the month!!!!!

For All Those Who Were Born Prior to 1940 We Are Survivors!!!!! Consider the changes we have witnessed. We were born before television, before penicillin, before polio shots, frozen food, Xerox, Plastic, Contact Lenses, Frisbees and the PILL. We were before radar, credit cards, split atoms, laser beams and ballpoint pens, before panty hose, dishwashers, clothes dryers, electric blankets, air conditioners, drip dry clothes and before man walked on the moon. We got married first and then lived together. How quaint can you be? Bunnies were small rabbits and rabbits were not Volkswagons. Designer Jeans were scheming girls named Jean or Jeanne and having a meaningful relationship meant getting along well with our cousins. We thought fast food was what you ate during Lent and Outer Space was the back of the Skyview Theatre. We were before house-husbands, computer dating, dual careers and commuter marriages. We were before day-care centers, group therapy and nursing homes. We never heard of FM radio, tape decks, electric typewriters, artificial heart, word processors, yogurt and guys wearing earrings. For us, timesharing meant togetherness…not computers or condominiums. A “chip” meant a piece of wood, hardware meant hardware and software wasn’t even a word! In 1940, the term “making out” referred to how you did on an exam. Pizza, MacDonalds and instant coffee were unheard of. We hit the scene when there were 5 and 10 cent stores where you bought things for five and ten cents. Newberry’s sold ice cream cones for a nickel or a dime. For one nickel you could ride a streetcar, make a phone call, buy a Pepsi or enough stamps to mail one letter and two postcards. You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600.00 but who could afford one, a pity too because gas was 11 cents a gallon. In our day, cigarette smoking was fashionable, GRASS was mowed not smoked, COKE was a cold drink and POT was something you cooked in. Folk Music was a Grandma’s lullaby and AIDS were helpers in the Principal’s office. We were certainly not before the difference the sexes was discovered but we were surely before the sex change. We were also the last generation that was so silly to think you needed a husband to have a baby! No wonder we were so confused and there is such a generation gap today: BUT WE SURVIVED. So glad we were raised the way we were and understood what having a hard time was. So many of our generation were in the low income class and did not know it and thought they were rich because they had food on the table and a bed to sleep in and hard working parents who grew their own gardens and the mothers made the clothes we wore. Everyone was so happy!!!!!
