The Phase III water shortage changes watering schedules and prohibits wasteful and unnecessary water use. Please note that these restrictions apply to everyone using potable (drinking) water supplied by Polk County Utilities, private wells, or surface water sources. For reclaimed water customers, your irrigation dates and times will not change. Under Phase III, Polk County Utilities will allow lawn and landscape watering from groundwater sources ONE DAY PER WEEK, as noted below: Address Numbers for Homes or Businesses… Ending in 0 or 1 Ending in 2 or 3 Ending in 4 or 5 Ending in 6 or 7 Ending in 8 or 9 No address (community common areas, etc.) • • •

On the designated watering days, one may irrigate lawns and landscape between midnight and 8 a.m. or between 6 p.m. and midnight, regardless of property size. Hand watering or micro-irrigation of plants (other than lawns) can be done on any day at any time, if needed. New lawns and plants may qualify for a 60-day establishment period (at least 50% of the area to be irrigated must be new plant material). On days 1-30 they may be watered any day of the week. During days 31-60, they may be watered every other day. Even-numbered addresses on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Odd-numbered addresses may be watered on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

A message from the President….

Dear Friends and Neighbors, It’s July and we will be celebrating Independence Day. It is also called the 4th of July, which commemorates the adoption of the “Declaration of Independence” on July 4, 1776. This day is a day of parades, barbecues, fairs. ballgames, fireworks, and picnics with family and friends. Please remember to attend the 4th of July celebration at the clubhouse. It is from 1 PM to 3 PM and is being given by the Management and LHV owners. A delicious meal is planned, so come and enjoy with your neighbors and friends. The end of June saw us entering our “rainy season”. Our wish for rain has finally come. We now see our yards turning green and our ponds filling with water. “Our” alligator has grown and we have a pair of ducks in the other pond each early morning. So, enjoy your sunny mornings, before the rain begins. No matter what you do or where you are, please enjoy, have fun, and travel safely, because your home and friends at LHV are always waiting for everyone to return safely. Have a safe and great summer, Joyce

On June 14th, 2017 we lost a resident here at Lake Hammock Village. Jerry Butler was a happy fun loving person with a smile on his face all the time. He was always ready to help in any way he could. He and Joan were very active with the Relay of Life in Haines City and also with several activities in the park. My fondest memory of him is that he loved doing the Easter Golf Cart parade and he always had a special Easter hat that he wore. Joan will be returning to her Lake Hammock home sometime in the near future. Let’s all keep her and the family in our thoughts and prayers. We should all remember that our lives here on this earth is very short. We should all live every day to the fullest as Jerry did. Joice Smith

Sympathy Joan Butler – Loss of her husband Jerry Butler – June 14th, 2017.

This is Kate Anderson Brower’s first book. When on the staff of Bloomberg News, she attended at White House given by Michelle Obama. She was impressed by a butler who seemed… “to drift noiselessly in and out of the room.” The table of contents is not chronological. It is actual set up to focus on specific groups of events and reveals the same staff members and interations through the years. Some staff were hired as early as 1941. Her chapter headings prove to be very compelling as she depicts the staff and workings of the residence itself: Controlled Chaos, Discretion, Devotion, Extraordinary Demands, Dark Days, Sacrifice, Race and the Residence, Backstairs Gossip and Michief, Growing Up in the White House and Heartbreak and Hope. The next book to Read “The Pianoraft” by Sara Alexi, Published January 26, 2017.

Photo by: Sharon Bowden Fred and Pat Gagne Fred and Pat hail from Hooksett, New Hampshire and have been married 41 years. They have been blessed with two daughters and two grandchildren. Prior to moving to 98 Reineke, they owned a time share and traveled to Florida for vacation, often discussing retiring to the state which they plan to do in July. Pat worked for the state of New Hampshire for 32 years as a Human Resources Administrator. Fred has been a catholic school teacher for 28 years. In addition, Fred is a published author, having written a book entitled “Much Needed Sunshine”, which is available on Amazon. He is also an actor in Community Theater. Fred's favorite characters are “Tevye” in “Fiddler on the Roof” and the cowardly lion in the “Wizard of Oz”. While Fred acted, Pat would work as a backstage manager. Both Pat and Fred enjoy golf and plan on participating in activities once they move in full time in July. Keep an eye out for them and when you see them, introduce yourself and welcome them to LHV.

Practice HEAT SAFETY Wherever You Are…  Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade, and stay hydrated  Indoors: Check up on the elderly, sick and those without AC  Job Sites: Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade as often as possible  Vehicles: Never leave kids or pets unattended – LOOK before you LOCK Florida summers are hot; most summers see heat waves in one or more parts of the United States. Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year and even more heat-related illnesses. The Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. To find the Heat Index temperature, look at the Heat Index Chart below or check our Heat Index Calculator. As an example, if the air temperature is 96°F and the relative humidity is 65%, the heat index--how hot it feels--is 121°F. The red area without numbers indicates extreme danger. The National Weather Service will initiate alert procedures when the Heat Index is expected to exceed 105°-110°F (depending on local climate) for at least 2 consecutive days.

During extremely hot and humid weather, your body's ability to cool itself is challenged. When the body heats too rapidly to cool itself properly, or when too much fluid or salt is lost through dehydration or sweating, body temperature rises and you or someone you care about may experience a heat-related illness. It is important to know the symptoms of excessive heat exposure and the appropriate responses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides a list of warning signs and symptoms of heat illness, and recommended first aid steps. Some of these symptoms and steps are listed below…..

Heat Cramps Heat cramps may be the first sign of heat-related illness, and may lead to heat exhaustion or stroke. Symptoms:  Painful muscle cramps and spasms usually in legs and abdomen  Heavy sweating First Aid:  Apply firm pressure on cramping muscles or gently massage to relieve spasm.  Give sips of water unless the person complains of nausea, then stop giving water

Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:  Heavy sweating  Weakness  Cool, pale, clammy skin  Fast, weak pulse  Possible muscle cramps  Dizziness  Nausea or vomiting  Fainting First Aid:  Move person to a cooler environment  Lay person down and loosen clothing  Apply cool, wet cloths to as much of the body as possible  Fan or move victim to air conditioned room  Offer sips of water  If person vomits more than once, seek immediate medical attention.

Heat Stroke Symptoms:  Altered mental state  One or more of the following symptoms: throbbing headache, confusion, nausea, dizziness, shallow breathing  Body temperature above 103°F  Hot, red, dry or moist skin  Rapid and strong pulse  Faints, loses consciousness First Aid: Heat stroke is a severe medical emergency. Call 911 or get the victim to a hospital immediately. Delay can be fatal.  Move the victim to a cooler, preferably air-conditioned, environment.  Reduce body temperature with cool cloths or bath.  Use fan if heat index temperatures are below the high 90s. A fan can make you hotter at higher temperatures.  Do NOT give fluids. Source: Polk County Emergency Operation Center Billy Abernathy, FPEM Submitted by: Renee DeJane, LHV C.A.P. Coordinator
