A message from the President….

Dear Friends and Neighbors, We are now in June the first month of summer. It is a time to vacation with family and friends, visit new places, go to the beach or just stay at home and relax by the pool. If you are staying the summer at LHV, remember we begin, hopefully, our rainy season and expect rain in the late afternoons. As part of our community, we are fortunate to have our lake and woods. The lake is home to fish, frogs, turtles and even an alligator or two. It is a fisherman’s delight. Not a fisherman, it is still a wonderful place to relax, be it at sunrise or sunset. But whenever you visit, you can always feel and hear the soft breeze, a frog croaking or the birds singing. Our woods are also a beautiful part of nature. It too, is home to many. Just a few are: tortoises, Pileated and Red Belly Woodpeckers, Bobwhites, Snail Kites, Tufted Titmouse and many more birds. A few privileged residents have seen otters and our newest resident, a bobcat. Many enjoy the woods while riding in their golf carts, walking their dogs, walking by themselves or sitting to relax and enjoy, the birds chirping, and the peacefulness of the woods. So always “Stop to smell the roses”, they are in our lake and woods 24/7. Plans have already started for our upcoming fall and winter. Always remember volunteers are needed to make all our activities happen. Even the smallest time and/or help in any way is greatly appreciated. No matter what you do or where you are, please enjoy, have fun, and travel safely, because your home and friends at LHV are always waiting for everyone to return safely.

Have a safe and great summer, Joyce

Medicare 101 October is the start of Medicare Open Enrollment time.  Are you sure your plan has given you the best coverage?  Do you know all the options available to you through the insurance options?  Do you know the difference between a Medicare Supplemental Plan and a Medicare Advantage Plan?  Have you been a little confused trying to sort through the whole Medicare system? Then you need to save the date, October 4th, 1:00 PM at the clubhouse for a short seminar called, “Medicare 101”. We’ve lined up our first Vendor Seminar Session for this date with a great, easy to follow insurance broker. He does not represent any one company, he’s not a salesman trying to sell you a policy, he is a knowledgeable insurance broker who can help us all sort through these questions. He has the whole afternoon dedicated to us, so after the short 25 - 30 minute informational session he will stay and meet oneon-one with anybody who desires some personal help. Additionally, he can make an appointment to meet with you at a later date if that’s your desire. More information to come as the summer ends. Thanks, feel free to contact me with any questions. Ron and Carol Radden Ron and Carol, who were high school sweethearts, have been married 49 years and have 1 son, Geoff, who lives in Deltona, Florida. They lived in the Orlando area from 1992-2002 and then returned to Northern Virginia to work. They decided to retire to Florida and moved into 40 Sargent St in September 2016. Carol was in telecommunications for 45 years, working in engineering and reaching the level of Senior Manager. Upon arriving in Florida, she went to work full time for Disney and currently works at Animal Kingdom in merchandising. Ron started out in sales, but switched careers and became a pastor for 12 years. He finished his career working in not-forprofit fundraising and is currently looking for a part time job. Ron and Carol would like to get involved in community activities, but currently their schedules do not allow it. Ron enjoys photography and Carol enjoys interior decorating. If you see Ron and Carol, stop and introduce yourself and make them feel welcome to LHV.

June bugs eat the young leaves of trees and plants. They deposit their eggs in the ground and the young larvae bury themselves in the soil in the autumn and stay there two years. They then come out in May or June as adult beetles. June Holidays

June, named after Juno, the goddess of marriage, is the sixth month of the year, and is one of the four months with a length of 30 days. Just like the month of May, no other month begins on the same day as June. This is also the month with the longest daylight hours of the year. June's birthstones are the Alexandrite, the Moonstone, and the Pearl. Alexandrite represents health and longevity. Moonstones represents change, new beginnings and the shifting tides of emotion and can help a wearer to alleviate stress, especially due to sudden changes in life. Moonstone is also believed to increase intuition and aid in lucid dreaming. Pearls symbolize purity of heart and faith, as well as growth and transformation through difficult circumstances. Its birth flowers are the honeysuckle and the rose. Honeysuckle traditionally stands for bonds of devotion, love, fidelity and generosity. Few flowers have as many meanings attributed to them as the rose. Depending on the type of rose, roses can indicate romantic love, secrecy, desire, gratitude, mourning, impossible hopes, modesty, joy, love at first sight, innocence, sacrifice and much more. In the traditional language of flowers, roses are among the most important flowers.
