Legend of the Lily
The proudest and most beautiful flower in the Garden of Gethsemane was the white lily. The lily knew that it was special and would proudly lift its face toward anyone who entered the garden. One night, a stranger came into the garden to pray. He looked so sad and wept so bitterly that the other flowers in the garden couldn’t help but hang their heads in sorrow too. But not the lily……It continued to stand straight and proud, straining to catch the best rays of the moonlight on its beautiful white face. The next day, the lily was shaken by sad news. The man who had prayed so sorrowfully in the garden had been sentenced to die by crucifixion. The lily was ashamed about how it had acted and turned its head downward in its humility. Since that first Good Friday, the lily has never lifted its head in pride again.

The March meeting was opened with the salute to the flag, prayer and a remembrance of Dorothy Eberhardt! Forty seven ladies attended, including two guest! The highlight of the meeting was the second presentation of our "Certificate of Appreciation" to Isabel Wirth, who has lived in Southfork for 19 years and has devoted her time, thoughts and days serving the needy at Day Star. She briefly told us of the current needs there. Our April Charity project is sending Easter Baskets for the children and bags of food for Easter dinner for the families served by Day Star. Our April 5th meeting will start at 10:30...... this is our last regular meeting for Spring....... EASTER HATS contest, a special Easter luncheon is planned.....please sign up....and pay your $5.00 annual dues! Dot Cady

Thank you Women's Club officers for such wonderful organization, the Set Up committee for preparing our beautiful venue, our chefs who prepared 16/17 varieties of delicious soups, and of course our valuable clean-up staff. Also, thanks to all that attended making our charity event a wonderful success. I for one enjoyed a few soup choices, the bread was so good, soft drinks and again, delicious dessert. Monetary gift were won and a good time was had by all.
Thanks Kevin for helping set up the clubhouse, very much appreciated. Will look forward to future events, and as always, God Bless America.
It took a village , Southfork Women’s Club. $537.21 was raised for Charity. OUR SOUP SUPPER was a great success because of the many, many generous volunteers! Special thanks to Betty Butler, Diana Stricklen and their helpers, 99 tickets were sold. Our success is because of your hard work! Many hands made the day go smoothly! Thanks to the makers of crock pots full of delicious soups, the cake bakers, the coffee makers and table setters who came at 1pm, the servers who came at 3pm, the door greeters, the 50/50 seller. The people who cleaned after the dinner, the men who helped pick up, took down tables and chairs and those wonderful women who stayed and cleaned the kitchen and thanks to our always ready printer, Craig Whitbeck for tickets and placemats. Southfork has amazing generous people. We are so blessed! Thank you all! Dot

May 6, Kentucky Derby Party
We are going to have a Kentucky Derby party in May. Along with the dinner (May issue will have the menu), we are planning a contest to determine who has the prettiest hat and the most ridiculous hat (come on men, you can enter too). Let’s see some beauty’s!!! We will have our own type of horse races, before we watch the televised race. Start designing your Derby Hats, and much more detail on the party in the May issue of the newsletter.
EASTER DINNER POTLUCK 4:00pm
Easter Ham (provided by the management), balance of the meal is potluck for our annual dinner which will be ready at 4pm on Sunday, April 16th This is a Potluck and there will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for all who would like to attend. Please sign up by April 12th. We would like to invite all from Southfork on this special holiday to join your fellow neighbor and friends for a fantastic feast. Bring a dish to pass that will serve at least 8 to 10 people and also bring your own table service of plate and utensils, Coffee and Iced Tea will also be provided!. This group update’s on cancellations and changes for any of our scheduled events or you will see some of the local area happenings here in Dade City or Zephryhills which might be of interest. Batteries and Smoke Detectors Submitted by, Karen Sierakowski In Massachusetts when selling a home a seller is responsible to call in the Fire Chief from their city and have their smoke detectors checked before their home can be sold. Our homes here in Southfork have no safety inspection on smoke detectors. Make it YOUR priority! For your information smoke detectors should be changed out every 10 years. If you take the cover off, there should be a date stamped on it. If there is no date, than go by the age of your home and if in doubt, go buy new detectors. Secondly, change out your smoke detector batteries yearly. Batteries are installed as a backup in case we lose electricity. They require 9-volt batteries. These batteries need to be changed out yearly. A suggestion: Pick your birthday, New Years, Christmas, etc. and change them EVERY year on that date. Kevin, our manager, is buying a box of these 9-volt batteries and they will be at the clubhouse for FREE!!!! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR DATES AND BATTERIES.

DOUBLE PINOCHLE COMING BACK Starting, April 24th , 12 noon Mondays each week at same time Is there anyone interested in playing Double Pinochle?
I have rules that 4, 5 or 6 people can play. Tables of 4 are the usual but we will accommodate all who want to play and no one will be turned away. There will be a drawing for each table seating and all neighboring communities are invited to play. If you have any friends outside of Southfork, feel free to invite them. For years we had played this game at the clubhouse and it was a lot of fun. Day and time picked because there are so many other games during the week and Mondays seem to be the best day to try. Each week on Monday mornings from 8am to 9am there is always coffee brewing which is free and we do have donuts for those who are a little hungry and they are $.50 each. What a good way to meet some of your neighbors and start your week. The men are usually talking about the latest sport event on TV and the women are always talking about the latest happenings in the community. No agenda or speakers, just a chance for our community to come together. Bring your smile and wit and we’ll furnish your coffee. We would love to get to know all of our new neighbors and the others who have been in hibernation lately. Come join us!!!!

March 13, 2017, an interim board meeting was held at McAdams’ house. A board vacancy has occurred with the moving of our Vice President, Anita Warschkow. Tom Geyer has agreed to fill the Vice President position but our board of Directors, requires one more person. We meet formally once in December and if need be in January. An informal meeting may occur during the year. If you feel like contributing to this good cause, please contact one of the board members listed below.

Thank God, they don't mind being vagabonds, They'll grow most everywhere. Please see me as a life like you, A plan of God that I pursue. Don't be mean to me and if you can, Love me and I'll be your biggest fan. NEIGHBORLY UNSUNG HERO’S There have been many instances here in Southfork where there has been a sudden illness or death occurring. During crisis times such as this there are so many here in our community who do not hesitate and send out a helping hand to those who are in need. On a weekly, daily, monthly basis many of these neighbors take care of those who are in desperate need with visits, taking food, calling them by phone and in so many other numerous ways. We are very thankful for the many residents who take on being kind and considerate and these people never look for a “Thank you” and at this time I commend all who have and still are helping others. Thank you all and that is what makes living here in Southfork so…….FANTASTIC!!!!! Phyllis G

The teams had 16 ladies and 16 men playing. Shuffleboard tournament brought out all the players even in the 40 degree weather. They played, were fed and had some great games going. Cash Prizes were awarded to the first, second and third place winners. Maybe more of you, after seeing the great fun the entrants were having, will come and join the teams on a daily basis. Check the newsletter in the activities section for days and times for both the men’s and women’s days of playing..
Who loves auctions? New address for the Dade City Auction will be held at the VFW in Dade City at 12735 VFW Rd, Dade City 33525. It is off of 52 and just down from the High School.
