Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS Have a great month!
January 2017
Recipe for a Happy New Year Author Unknown
Take twelve whole months. Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy. Make them just as fresh and clean as possible. Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty, or thirty-one different parts, but don't make up the whole batch at once. Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients. Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work. Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation, and one good deed. Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cup full of good humor. Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness. You're bound to have a happy new year.

Southfork Annual Association Meeting
What: Our annual homeowner’s meeting is a chance to meet new neighbors, catch up with old friends and discuss local issues. This January meeting has been designated by our by-laws to be the first meeting of the fiscal year with the election of new officer’s and directors. Please plan to attend and learn what’s happening in Southfork!
Where:
Southfork Clubhouse, January 23th, 2017 at 9A.M. sharp!
Why: It’s your neighborhood, too! With our combined efforts, we can continue to make our community a better social environment with better communication to everyone. We need everyone’s support to help and vote on issues that everyone is happy with! It is next to impossible to please everyone but there are ways to try and appease most of the people. If there is anyone who is interested in being an officer or run as a director your name must be handwritten in on the already printed ballot because nominations were closed at the November membership meeting! Who: You, the homeowners, must have your yearly dues paid by January 10th in order to vote for any new officer/director’s. The annual yearly dues is $20.00 per household and only one (1) member of each household is eligible to vote. Submit payment to Secretary, Peggy Elkins 11044 Ewing Dr or place in the suggestion box in the lobby of the clubhouse. How: No need to RSVP, just show up! Reason: We need more then one candidate for each office to run. If there is only 1 person for each office with no competition, elections will be held and the slate is automatically given to the only ones listed for each office. So, if you want “change” this is the time to do it!!! Please, come and submit your name or your ideas.
from Tom’s desk.

A woman of a certain age finds her world turned upside down by a handsome new co-worker in a witty and compassionate late-life coming-of-age-story. Starring: Sally Field, Wendi McLendonCovey, Tyne Daly Runtime: 1 hour, 30 minutes
This movie is Quirky, Romantic, Feel-good, Witty ,
Ratings R
It’s not that much of an exaggeration to say that her Doris—a 60-ish, never-wed office drone whose sheltered life spent on Staten Island with a fat, lazy cat, a demanding invalid mother and decades of hoarded clutter—is a somewhat spikier but no less sweeter invention in the mode of Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp. She even dresses the part in what used to be Salvation Army toss-offs but have since been reclaimed in this age of shabby-chic as vintage wear. We laugh at her foibles, applaud her small victories, agonize over her questionable choices, share her growth pains and allow her to tug on our heartstrings. In a society that too often devalues its older citizenry, Doris’ arrival is as welcome as the first crocus of spring.
Southfork Women’s Club December 7th, 2016
We opened our meeting at 10:30 with the salute to the flag. We had 40 members attend this month. We then had a moment of silence in remembrance of Pearl Harbor. We welcomed all members as well as thanked our Hostesses Carol Albers & Katie Bellnier. who did a beautiful job of decorating and preparing our Christmas party with lots of tasty food and punch.
Sean McCart spoke briefly about the memorial bricks we have purchased over the years from Hospice and assured us they were safe where they lay.
Peggy Elkins read the minutes which were approved by Marielle Quain & Phyllis Grossi, Carol Whitbeck read the treasure’s report which was approved by Willy Stoever & Diana Strickland.
Diana Unger gave a Charity report on shoes that were purchased for kids at the Lacoochee School. We reminded everyone that all food bags for Christmas have to be delivered to Carol Whitbeck on or before Dec 12th. We also once again thank all that donated socks and underwear for the kids! I read a thank you letter from Daystar about how grateful they are for all our donations.

Yes, you had to get these two! That is BOB AND CAROL SANBORN! Bob was born January 31st in Athens, Ohio. Carol (Begany) was born in September 22nd in Cleveland, Ohio! They moved to Southfork on Brahman in 2001. Real “old timers” (as residents only)! Carol and Bob have been married 58 years (love it) and have three children, three grandchildren, and one grandchild! Bob retired in Sales from NAPA and Carol retired in Accounting of law firm Ziegler Metzger and Miller! You’ll see them around the park a lot! They have two (almost identical) dogs and religiously walk them to the doggie park several times a day (or should I say, the dogs walk them)! The Sanborns are great neighbors we are all so grateful to have!

#7
Our very own BILL STRICKLEN! You had to recognize that smile and the child-model stance! Bill was born October 5th in Detroit, Michigan (all you Michiganites should have known this one)! Bill’s lived here on Bronco with lovely wife, Diana, since 2009. They have eight children (wow) and 13 grandchildren and been married for 24 ½ years. Bill retired from General Motors in Detroit, as a Millwright-Skilled Trades. He LOVES classic cars, plus boating and traveling! A real fun kind of guy! Love that “pose.”

Here’s our own Miss Cinderella and her handsome Prince –JANET AND JOE LEHMAN! Janet (Brenner) Lehman was born in Lima, Ohio on September 20th. Joe was born November 26th in Ottawa, Ohio! They moved here to their Mesquite address in 2011. They have three children and four grandchildren. Janet was a stay-at-home mother and in later years, worked and retired from the Miller City/New England school district cafeteria. Joe retired from Ennis Custom Printing! He wears the crown of “Jack of all Trades”! He also enjoys shuffleboard and is our head chef at the Wednesday night Burgers and Dogs cookout at the pool & Janet is right there too! She also loves crocheting, quilting, and reading a good book! Oh yes, Joe loves “sleeping” too! They are a great asset to our community and have family members here also! Read on…………..
Last but not least..two little dolls - JIM AND MARY FREUND! Mary, nee Mary Brenner, born March 23 in Lima, Ohio. She retired from Star Federal Credit Union as Branch Manager. Jim was born July 28 in Landeck, Ohio and retired from Goodyear as a Plumber/Pipe Fitter! Jim and Mary have been married 53 years and have four children and 11 grandchildren! They’ve called it home on Mustang since 2005! This is two happy faces wherever you see these folk. Mary serves on the Southfork Board… thanks Mary! They both like to travel, play cards and just spend time together. (I love their afternoon coffee time together!) For those who don’t know, Mary has two sisters with spouses who live here too…Janet Lehman (above) and Judy Geyer! So, it’s “all in the family” and so great that they can all be together! Thanks for all they do also! (Sorry, Mary in the last issue, I wrote you were born in the “Northwest” instead of “Midwest” – no excuse, just my computer-ha!)
JANUARY 2017 SOUTHFORK “BABES”
#1 – Would you look at this handsome guy? He had to be a teenage heart throb! Girls were after him for sure, but he has his “love” and caught a great one! He and his wife have lived in Southfork since 2002, so all you “old timers” should know this guy! He was born and raised in the Northeast. Yep, he’s still got the great hair (although a little different color) AND the eyes!
#2 – A little Sweetie with the curls (and doll face) could melt your heart! This should be an easy one folks, as she’s lived here with her husband for 13 years! She was born and raised in the great Midwest! What a great picture of her and her mother – they sure resemble each other too! I must say that these two “babes” this month, are not related in any way! Good luck!
To be continued in February! Please continue to call me about your pictures as it is impossible to do without your input. Thanks to all who have contributed! Have a wonderful New Year! I wish you all the best of health, wealth, and happiness your heart can hold! It’s hard to believe it is soon 2017….where have the past years gone? As we say, ‘time flies when you’re having fun!!’ Make it a great day, every day! Jean Deiss (jdeiss0831@yahoo.com) 863-602-1535
Thank you so much Southfork Mobile Home Association for the gift certificates to Golden Corral that were given to each paid member in lieu of not having the scheduled steak dinner in November as was planned. This was truly appreciated. Submitted by, Phyllis Grossi Happy New Year to all!
Unsung Heroes We here in Southfork are so lucky to have many people who donate their time, money and efforts to the hungry, homeless, nursing homes, churches etc. in this Dade City area and they are our unsung heroes. Our own Women’s Club volunteers, on a monthly, weekly basis, donates many items including money and food and clothing and time to the unfortunate. Besides their time, use of their own vehicles, use of their family members there is never enough thanks given to them for all of their efforts. This also goes out to everyone who takes the time to purchase and donate to all of the causes. There are many who do not belong to any of our groups but still go out to help in the area and what a way to start the New Year by giving them all a big, thank you and gratitude for all they do. Happy New Year to all and there is no where in Pasco County area like our own Southfork Community where we have the best with the biggest hearts. Submitted by, Phyllis Grossi.
