Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS Have a great month!
December 2016 'Twas A Florida Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town, no noses were frozen, no snow fluttered down, no children in flannels were tucked into bed, they all wore shorty pajamas instead. To find wreaths of holly, t'was not very hard, for holly trees grew in every back yard. In front of the houses, Dads and Moms were adorning the bushes and coconut palms. The sleeping kiddies were dreaming in glee, hoping to find water skis under the tree. They all knew that Santa was well on his way, in a Mercedes-Benz, instead of a sleigh. And soon he arrived and started to work, he hadn't a second to linger or shirk. He whizzed up the highways and zoomed up the road, in a S-L 300, delivering his loads. The tropical moon gave the city a glow, and lighted the way for old Santa below. As he jumped from the auto he gave a wee chuckle, he was dressed in Bermudas with an Ivy league buckle, There weren't any chimneys, but that caused no gloom, for Santa came in through the Florida room. He stopped at each house....stayed only a minute, emptying his sack of stuff that was in it. Before he departed, he treated himself to a glass of papaya juice upon the shelf. He turned with a jerk and bounced to the car, remembering he still had to go very far. He shifted the gears and stepped on the gas and up Highway US 98 he went like a flash. And I heard him exclaim as he went on his way, "MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL, I WISH I COULD STAY!"

SOUTHFORK CINEMA, Tuesday December 13th, 6:30pm Our next Tuesday Night Movie will be Dec 13th @ 6:30pm. Join us in the clubhouse for this exciting movie.. “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation” The “CineBistro will continue serving all you can eat popcorn for 25 cents and ice cream for $.50 a bowl.. You are welcome to bring your own beverages. There’s plenty of seating but feel free to bring your own comfy chair! Don’t forget, we take requests!!! Something you want to see? Just let us know .
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Chevy Chase, star of National Lampoon's Vacation and its sequel, is back as the paterfamilias of the Griswold family (including Beverly D'Angelo as his missus) to skewer the Yuletide season. Chevy mugs, trips, falls, mashes his fingers and stubs his toes as he prepares to invite numerous dysfunctional relatives to his household to celebrate Christmas. Amidst the more outrageous sight gags (including the electrocution of a cat as the Christmas tree is lit) the film betrays a sentimental streak, with old wounds healing and long-estranged relatives reuniting in the Griswold living room. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was still capable of attracting an audience five years after its release -it was one of the top-rated seasonal TV specials of 1994, outrating even the first network telecast of It's a Wonderful Life.
Annual Christmas Golf Cart Parade Tuesday , Dec 22st, 6 pm (ANOTHER SOUTHFORK TRADITION)
Come one, come all, and join with all of your friends and neighbors for our annual Christmas Golf Cart parade. Decorate your golf cart and join the parade by lining up outside the clubhouse at 6:00pm. Our judges will award a gift certificate for the best decorated golf cart (one from Southfork and one from Blue Jay). The winners will lead us through Blue Jay and Southfork and return us to the pavilion (Palamino Dr) for hot chocolate and wassail. Bring a snack to pass and a chair to sit on while you enjoy a blazing fire and entertainment. If you don’t have a golf cart, just stand outside your house, wave and cheer then get in your car and drive to the pavilion for the fun.
We would like to see decorated carts but that is not a must because we want everyone to come out and enjoy the evening.. If you do not have a cart, maybe you could ride with one of your neighbors. We would like to see all of you and kick this Christmas week off with a lot of fun. Remember, Refreshments at the Pavilion following the parade!
Thank you and sponsored by the Homeowners Association.

#1 & #3 – You got it! That’s Craig and Carol Whitbeck! They moved to Southfork on Brahman Drive in 2008. Craig was born May 25th in Detroit, Michigan and spent most of his life there. He retired as Master Mechanic from J. J. Curran Crance Company. Craig – not only being an active member of our community, also works at the local Hospice Thrift Store, checking out donated electronics. He loves computer work and keeps busy printing materials and hand delivering newsletters and other information to the residents here! That bright yellow golf cart that he and Carol has, is like a ray of Florida Sunshine….they are always up, about, and around! Craig has a phenomenal story about nearly losing his hearing at a very young age! Carol Whitbeck, born Carol Wilson, on August 1st in Detroit, Michigan. She and Craig have been married for 50 years, with four children and nine grandchildren. They are too “young” for great grandchildren (as Craig says)! Carol has devoted many years as the ‘Whitbeck Homemaking Engineer’. She enjoys ceramics, quilting, and any kind of crafting. By the way, that beautiful yellow golf cart was last year’s winner in the Christmas Golf Cart Decorating contest! Congrats, you two! Also, thanks for being super neighbors and doers in our great Southfork Community! #2 & #4 – If you’re not sure about these two that is Ron and Pam Glenna! They’ve lived on Ewing Drive (next to Brahman) for one year now, moving from Village Grove on route 98. Relocating from Minnesota, they lived there for eight years before “moving on up to the north side.” Ron was born November 2 nd in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin but spent much of his life in Minnesota. He retired from U.V. Color – an electronics manufacturing company. He is the proud owner (and rightly so) of a beautiful blue Honda Goldwing motorcycle and loves to ride with the group and wife, Pam. Traveling is another one of his passions. Yes, Ron, Pam thinks you’re the best looking guy here! Pam Glenna, nee – Mandt, was born on October 15th in Mason City, Iowa. She and Ron have shared wedded bliss for 31 years and share four children, nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren! Wow – they’re too young for that! Pam retired as a Dental Assistant from Dr. Black’s Dental practice in Minnesota. One of her interests is riding the motorcycle with Ron and the group, plus traveling, crafts, gardening and yard work. You saw the alligator pictures in last months’ issue captured, in part, by ‘Alligator Jim McAdams” in the Glenna’s front yard! That’s why “you shouldn’t be afraid to go by and see their beautiful yard!” Stop by give these great folks a warm Southfork welcome!
“SOUTHFORK”
#1 This handsome little Dude may be a tough one, but look close, you’ll see this guy as today; the hair; the big grin. Born and raised in the Midwest, he’s resided here since 2002! Oh, yes, he wears glasses now!
#2 An angel in disguise. This little sweetie was also born and raised in the Midwest too! She’s been here for just under 15 years, so you’ll see that familiar smile all over Southfork. Like all, she’s a little older now, but you’ll still see her!
#4 Okay! Here is our real live “Cinderella”! What a beauty she is and such a great picture! She’s another doer in Southfork. This pretty lady was born in the great Midwest and she and hubby have made their home here for less than 10 years! This is a wonderful picture!
#3 No way you can look at that recognizable face and not know this guy (especially the teeth)! He was born and raised in the north Midwest and he and his wife have been here since 2009. Hint: His wife is not here this time!
#5 What a sweet, handsome little guy! See that smile? It’s a give-away! You will see this gentleman doing so many things here. Born in the Midwest, he and his wife have called Southfork their home for over five years!!! He also wears glasses now. Isn’t he the neatest little man?
December Southfork Babes….Continued
#6 Wow! What a real live doll! Love those beautiful eyes and darling face. Now there are a few folks here who will definitely know this one from the Northwest. She’s lived here with hubby for over 10 years. She is also a big part of our community! A special lady!
#7 This may be a tough one, but those who know him, will recognize him then and now as a handsome fellow! He does have some family here too! He was born and raised in the Midwest also! He’s been here since 2005. Oh, he has hair now too!
So we have “lucky seven” Babes this month! Great! However, please continue to supply me with those photos. Since I haven’t gotten a lot of feedback regarding the guessing game, I will be happy to receive an email or private Facebook message…or a text (just let me know your name). My email is: jdeiss0831@yahoo.com or phone 863-602-1535. Of course, if you’re the babe of the month, you’ll need to tag the others too! Good luck and thank you to those who continue to send pictures. I appreciate that and it is fun! Have a great December and a blessed, healthy, and Merry Christmas…and Happy Hanukkah! Make it a great day, every day! Submitted by: Jean Deiss

I was asked to place this article for safety reasons and please read below!!!!
Traveling through Southfork, either by vehicle or golf cart, speed limit is 15 miles per hour. I enjoy taking my BFF (dog) for a ride daily in my cart. Traveling up Ewing, I always double check Bronco, I have seen many folk pass those stop signs on Bronco, feeling vulnerable in golf cart, with BFF, please let me enjoy that extra look to be safe and to make sure another vehicle is not coming my way. Please don't tailgate me, can't read the logo on your car, (so close), make that right on Wilds, traveling west. Was planning to take left on Prairie to head to pool area. Had strong feeling person following me was not happy, since I noticed hand motion when I chose to look both ways at Ewing/ Bronco. Checked my mirror, had strong feeling I was going to be passed on the left, guess I was not traveling fast enough, was going to offer a left hand signal, when boom! I was passed in a very negative way on the left, (very legal), but totally unnecessary. Life is too good, give us all a chance to enjoy it. 20 seconds one way or the other really doesn't cause anyone to be late. Guests and residents should be aware of common courtesy in our park.
This is also note worthy when walking or driving past all of the many corners here in Southfork especially the ones leading on to Brahman and or Bronco as an example. It is hard to see if another person or car is coming in any of the directions and it is amazing no one has been hurt or hit by a vehicle at any of these corners. The other dangerous place is pulling out of the parking spaces in front of the clubhouse to either side of Prairie or Tumbleweed traffic. There have been some near misses with cars, pedestrians and golf carts and scooters almost getting hit. The walkers are assuming they are seen!

Awesome Christmas Story 'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch The pond was froze over & so was the branch. The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule. The kids were all home on vacation from school, And happier young folks you never did seeJust all sprawled around a-watchin' TV. Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock, There came a surprise that gave them a shock! The power went off, the TV went dead! When Grandpa came in from out in the shed With an armload of wood, the house was all dark. "Just what I expected," they heard him remark. "Them power line wires must be down from the snow. Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago." "I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light, And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right." The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom. Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room, Uncased his old fiddle & started to play That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh. Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too. They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night," Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight. They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth, And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth. They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe, The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve. Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn; And when the kids wakened, the power was on.. "The power company sure got the line repaired quick," Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick. Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun, He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!
