Thanksgiving is...

Thanksgiving is anticipation...the excitement of wonderful aromas, golden, harvest-themed décor, the best linens, china and silver.

Thanksgiving is...platters of of special Thanksgiving foods prepared only once a year, mmn...mmn... mouths watering, ecstatic taste buds quivering with joy.

Thanksgiving is...the family all around the table, clean, dressed, smiles all around, recitation of what we are thankful for, the saying of grace, our special Thanksgiving prayer.

And now, finally, dig in! We are thinking of you at Thanksgiving, and hoping your Thanksgiving experience will be surrounded by a special glow in your memory.

The alligator was in the yard of Ron Glenna and a thanks to Jim McAdams who helped him. Quite a job and made for excitement here in Southfork. This was the talk of the evening and the above photo’s are showing our unwelcomed visitor.

Hello Southfork, Wow!!!! Fall season is here already….where does the time go?

Judy and I as you know by now have been out of commission with me falling and in therapy and Judy having had surgery and doing a lot better. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes. We both hope to be back in Southfork, real soon!!!!!

This month of November we had planned a steak dinner but we have a surprise for everyone instead and we are going to give all paid membership dues for the year of 2016 paid up thru the end of October of this year a $10.00 gift certificate to Golden Corral……..yes, you heard right. So if you are a snowbird and not here yet, you will receive it when you get back.

These certificates will be hand delivered to all paid membership only.

November is a really busy month to kick off our Fall season so please sign up when necessary for events requesting to know who all will be attending. The volunteers need all the help and support you can give them because I will not be there to help..

We have the first membership meeting of the season on Nov 28th, Womens club bazaar will be on the 19th, Hotdogs by the pool starts on Nov 2nd, there will be Thanksgiving potluck with meat provided by the management on the 24th, movie night on Nov 8 th, welcome back party at the pavilion on the 19th with Bahr’s providing the meat, College Football tailgate party on the 26th.

COME ONE…COME ALL…VOLUNTEER… In order to continue our activities successfully, we need volunteers who are willing to donate their time and talent as committee members for our various functions. There is a place for everyone who would like to participate. Please join us, as a helper or a worker, whether you have a little time or a lot, there is an activity which needs you and that could be selling of the 50/50 tickets, set up or whatever. We need participation from all of you in order to have an interesting, active association community which all of us can enjoy. If you can help in any way, please contact Tom G or any of the board members which are listed on page 2 of the newsletter.

Women’s Club Meeting for Oct. 5th

We opened out meeting at 9:30 by welcoming our new club members and residents. We saluted the flag. We had 28 members present as it was our first meeting since Spring. We thank our Hostess’s for this month- Donna Elder, Louise Murray, & Rhoda Beunier. You did a wonderful job of decorating and serving a delicious array of treats. Carol Whitbeck read the minutes from our April meeting and Phyllis Grossi and Ginger Shanbeck voted to approve them. Barbara Wharton read the Treasurer’s Report and it was approved

by Marge Otto and Mary White.

Carol Reno stepped in to over see the Charity Committee this summer and we are grateful for her hard work. She reported about buying and delivering of backpacks and supplies to the area schools. She also read thank- you’s from some of the charities that received donations. A Sheriff was supposed to talk to the group about Human Trafficking in our state but was unable to make it due to an emergency.

Carol Whitbeck spoke for the Quilter’s and had an array of baby and kids blankets to show us. They are doing a remarkable job with donated fabric and will continue to work diligently to produce a variety of wonderful projects to donate to area charities. Jeanne Bittman has kept up the plants and flowers in the pool area over the summer and has done a great job brightening up the area.

We discussed our up coming Bazaar to be held Nov the 19th from 8:00 to 12:00. We have rented all the tables and expect to have a fantastic variety of vendors and donated raffles again this year. We do still need help making and serving Sloppy Joe’s so if you’d like to lend a hand please let one of our board members know. We will need to have a meeting of all volunteers to make sure we have everything covered to be held briefly after our November Women’s Club meeting.

We are in need of Hostess’s for our November meeting, please call me if you are able to help with this.

Phyllis Grossi spoke to the group about the memorial bricks that have been donated over the years and placed at Hospice grounds on Clinton Ave, now that Hospice will not be using this area anymore concern for what may happen with the bricks was expressed. Phyllis made some calls and has someone lined up to come speak briefly about our concerns at the December meeting. We also have a speaker on investments coming for November.

We had a 50/50 raffle and the winner was Marge Otto. We also had 4 drawing for the Avon raffles and the winners were Phyllis Grossi, Dorothy King, Donna Elder, & Sherry Glatfelter. We thank our generous Avon lady Tanya Hahn for her donations to be raffled and enjoyed by the lucky winners!

We called for a brief meeting of the Charity Committee after the Women’s club to go over what took place this summer, and what to do forfall/winter. We also needed a full time chairman to oversee this committee and Diana Unger graciously stepped up to take that position. Thank you so much Diana!

We will see you November 2nd. a box will be placed in the clubhouse for donations of children’s socks and underwear to go with shoes the club will buy for needy area children.

COMING IN DECEMBER – A CHANCE TO GUESS WHO OUR BABES ARE!! STAY TUNED! Okay folks…this is a cinch! This handsome “young” man hails from the northern U.S. (surprised?). He’s resided here in Southfork permanently for nearly five years. You’ve got to know this energetic person for his “getter done” attitude and the person that he is - which he does well! Have fun with this one!

This one may be a little more difficult, since this good looker has only lived here with his lovely wife for one year; however, he moved to Florida from the upper Midwest nine years ago. Hint…you very well could know him as “the best looking guy in Southfork”…so he says and that could fit most of the guys here also!

These are all adorable pictures and I do hope you will help me continue to post pictures from the past! I so enjoy this and look forward to hearing from all the other neighbors out there!

Caught Being Good Submitted by Kathy Gallick "I saw someone do something nice."

Be aware Southfork, there are good people within our Park. They may not appear as John Travolta did in "Michael" the flick he performed as the archangel, but they do exist. Their wings may be tucked under a "Gator or Southfork" tee shirt, but they are here.

Help, I've fallen and I can't get up. Sounds funny unless you get the call. Who should I call? I know, go to the clubhouse. A resident is in trouble, he needs help. He follows me to the house, and in my opinion above and beyond the call of duty, helps our resident to his comfort spot for the evening. You know who you are, (John).

As you pass a neighbor, who just might possibly has helped a resident to Bayfront Hospital, and then onto Lakeland Hospital, taken care of details to the best of his knowledge, remembered to cover his bird at an ungodly hour, returned to uncover and feed said bird, please extend a warm good day.

You know who you are. (Ron) I, for one, appreciate the fact that if I need help, I can knock on my neighbors door, knowing help will be forthcoming. There are angels among us, usually in the background, but thankfully there. So always be kind, the wings may be hidden, but that resident just might be your angel.

So if you would take a second to commemorate You will instantly see We owe veterans our gratitude For they are the reason we are free.

WELCOME BACK SNOWBIRDS AND NEIGHBORS Come and join us Wednesday’s for BINGO Starting on November 2nd we are adding “Warm Up’s” which are 5 early bird games and these games start at 5:30pm. This is something new and instead of sitting around waiting for the regular games to start at 6:30pm this is a new added feature.

The bingo doors open at 3:30pm, early bird games @5:30pm and regular bingo starts at 6:30pm. Come early to get your bingo sheets because our first event of the evening @6:30 is a 50/50 . Tickets are 3 stubs for $1.00 or 7 for $2.00 with the winner receiving ½ of the intake and then 10 other winners are picked and each receives a free special.

Besides these 50/50’s and regular games, we have specials ( last special of the evening is a 2 part game and the 2nd game depending on the crowd pays close to $100.00 or more) and we even have a horse race which is paid out on the last game of the evening.

No matter what you hear our bingo is really great and you have a great chance with winning some of our great prizes.

So come and join us for a night of fun and chance instead of sitting at home.

If you never played there are many who will show and guide you through the evening. We are here to help and interact with our neighbors!

FREE CLINIC FLU SHOTS Tuesday, November 15 1:30PM Walgreens Pharmacist at Southfork Summer is almost over and flu season will be upon us before we know it.

Southfork is once again hosting Walgreen’s Pharmacy Flu Shot Clinic right here in the clubhouse.

No need to make a trip to your doctor’s office, just sign up in the clubhouse for November 15 at 1:30PM for your flu shot. Be sure to bring your insurance/medicare information so they can bill your insurance.
