WELCOME BACK WOW!!!!! It is hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is nearing and summer is quickly coming to an end. It seems like just last week that the season was just beginning and the snowbirds were leaving. I hope it has been a good and healthy summer season for all of you. It has been a good summer here at Southfork and now, in just a few short weeks, most of the snowbirds will be back and many of the activities and meetings will be starting again.

FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!!!!!! September 22nd is the first day of autumn but here in Florida it is like any other day of the year. Up North you are already thinking of cold weather, snow and ice and we here in Florida can only go by the news media on what is happening and not missing the cold but we sure do miss the fall colors. So to all of us here in Florida, relax and enjoy with no worries about shovels or freezing cold!!!! _____________________________________________________________________________________

SNOWBIRDS

Here they come, ready or not! The snowbirds should be arriving in a steady stream starting in September, October and November. License plates tell of their origins, but they’re all coming to the land of palm tree-lined driveways and warm weather. Bring them on, I say! Those of us who endure the hot, sticky summer months are finally starting to get out more. We’re eating on the lanai, taking walks without being dripping wet and, well, here come the traffic jams, the crowded doctor’s offices and stores, but wait---it also energizes our lifestyle and our economy. Yes, come on down, all you snowbirds! Clubs of all sorts exist in the winter but we still exist here with activities while you are away.. Friendships are big for snowbirds……..Put on a parade, a fun day or a fundraiser and you’ll find snowbirds right in the middle of it all. Snowbirds who flock to Florida for the months of September thru May, we love you and can’t wait for you to get back and get the community rolling again with fun and laughter. Hurry, hurry so we can get the parties started!!!! _____________________________________________________________________________

Favor to Ask!!!

Fall is fast approaching and I have a big favor to ask all of you who submit any articles or are in charge of any type of card games or activities. We have a lot of newer residents in the park over the last 12 months and I want to make sure the dates and times are current on all events held each week and correctly placed in the newsletter on the activities page. Please do not assume I know the changes or deletions of any game activity and if there have been any changes please let me know by the 15th of each month. Thanks, Phyllis

WELCOME BACK FRIENDS FROM THE NORTH!!!

There were 16 ladies who attended Golden Corral on August 3rd for lunch. It was a nice variety of food for everyone to choose from. Next month on September 7th at 11 am we will be going to Panera Bread for lunch. A signup sheet will be available at the clubhouse, so I can get a headcount. On Tuesday, August 9th school supplies and backpacks were delivered to Cox Elementary and Lacoochee Elementary. There were 55 backpacks and 14 bags of school supplies. It is so heartwarming to see how Women’s Club and our surrounding parks are so generous with their donations. A big thanks to Carol Reno for purchasing the 48 backpacks and both Marielle Quain and Carol Reno for packing our school supplies and helping to deliver them. Women’s Club is a great charitable organization that I am so proud to be part of. Thank you again everyone, Carol Whitbeck, VP

Women's Club Luncheon Several gals enjoyed our visit to the Golden Corral this month. Back packs were displayed and will be filled and distributed to area schools. Thank you ladies. As always, a social pleasure, chatting with the girls is always fun. Nothing wrong with that dessert table either. A pleasant time was had by all. Submitted by, Kathy Gallick

Forrest Gump Year: 1994 Starring: Tom Hanks,Robin Wright Penn Genres: Drama, Romance Time: 142 Minutes Stupid is as stupid does, says Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-winning performance) as he discusses his relative level of intelligence with a stranger while waiting for a bus. Despite his subnormal IQ, Gump leads a truly charmed life, with a ringside seat for many of the most memorable events of the second half of the 20th century. Entirely without trying, Forrest teaches Elvis Presley to dance, becomes a football star, meets John F. Kennedy, serves with honor in Vietnam, meets Lyndon Johnson, speaks at an anti-war rally at the Washington Monument, hangs out with the Yippies, defeats the Chinese national team in table tennis, meets Richard Nixon, discovers the breakin at the Watergate, opens a profitable shrimping business, becomes an original investor in Apple Computers, and decides to run back and forth across the country for several years. Meanwhile, as the remarkable parade of his life goes by, Forrest never forgets Jenny (Robin Wright Penn), the girl he loved as a boy, who makes her own journey through the turbulence of the 1960s and 1970s that is far more troubled than the path Forrest happens upon. Featured alongside Tom Hanks are Sally Field as Forrest's mother; Gary Sinise as his commanding officer in Vietnam; Mykelti Williamson as his ill-fated Army buddy who is familiar with every recipe that involves shrimp; and the special effects artists whose digital magic place Forrest amidst a remarkable array of historical events and people.

HEALTH/WELLNESS SEMINAR Thurs, Sept 8th 10AM Fall is upon us and it’s time for our monthly Health and Wellness Seminars to begin again, sponsored by Florida Hospital. Please join us on Thursday, September 8th at 10AM in the clubhouse to learn about the Zika Virus. See newsletter insert.

Creation Wellness Center A large group of Southfork residents enjoyed a Silver Sneaker Workout with Keymo this morning. One hour of enjoyable exercise was presented. Many of the exercises can very easily be done at home. Maintaining balance, core maintenance, and several others. Yes, it is work, yes we should move about daily, as the instructor indicated, sitting has become the "old smoking" syndrome. Not at all good for our health. Remember, "An active body is a healthy body." Always a pleasure to enjoy activities at our clubhouse with social people. As for me, I'm pooped!

Lap Throws and Shawl’s Needed

The Yarn Hookers group are putting together a project in time for the Christmas holidays and we are asking help from any of you who crochet or knit. We need completed crocheted or knitted items such as Lap Throw’s or Shawl’s , to be made. We hope you can help us with the donation that we plan on giving to one of the local nursing homes.. So for any snowbirds or year round residents we implore your help in making something to be ready by December. You can contact Phyllis Grossi, Sherri Gladfelter, Helen Stowe or Louise Murray with any questions. Thank you
