June 2016 Hurricane season is Here!
Hurricane season is upon us and officially starts on st the 1 of June.
What Makes a Dad God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ... Dad
Before the wind starts to blow, there are a few items that you should stow. Once we get information from the weather bureau that a possible hurricane is nearing the Tampa area we should all be ready and follow the advice of the officials. It’s a good idea to put away any of your lawn decorations and or furniture that could become airborne missiles in a forceful wind. Don’t forget sidewalk lighting fixtures, wind chimes, flags and potted plants! These items along with any patio furniture are best moved to your shed/garage for the duration of the storm. Make sure you have items available to use and packed including can foods, medicines etc. that should be ready if any evacuation is necessary. Heed the warning!!!!!!!

HELLO SOUTHFORK IT LOOKS ANDS FEELS LIKE SUMMER. BUT FOR THE ONES OF US WHO LIVE HERE ALL THE TIME WE KINDA GET USED TO IT. A LOT OF US GO AWAY FOR A GRADUATION OR A WEDDING OR JUST A VACATION FOR A FEW WEEKS BUT IT IS GOOD TO GET BACK TO SOUTHFORK. WE HAD VERY GOOD ENTERTAINERS IN MAY. WE HAD A GOOD MOTHERS DAY ICE CREAM SOCIAL. THE MOVIE NIGHT WAS ATTENDED VERY WELL. THE NEXT MOVIE WILL BE ON JUNE 14TH. THE OUT AND ABOUT TO THE LONGHORN STEAK HOUSE WAS WELL ATTENDED AND A LOT OF FUN. WE THANK JIM AND CAROLYN. THE HEALTH SEMINAR WAS ATTENDED WELL. THE NEXT ONE WILL BE IN SEPT. BINGO WILL SHUT DOWN THE MONTH OF JUNE. WE HAVE A MEMORIAL DAY POTLUCK PLANNED FOR MAY 30TH. THE H O A WILL FURNISH THE CHICKEN SO PLEASE SIGN UP. FOR FATHERS DAY WE WILL HAVE PIZZA AND ICED TEA. Wednesday Burgers by the Pool
There will be no Hotdogs/Hamburgs on Wednesday’s for the rest of the summer. They will resume in the Fall. Thanks to everyone including the Blue Jay people who have supported this weekly event. __________________________________________

No BINGO in June
To all the bingo players. Because of the snowbirds leaving and less people playing, bingo will be cancelled for the entire month of June and reopening on July 6th.. We needed a little vacation, so be ready to come and join us on July 6th..
WOMEN’S CLUB On Wednesday May 4th, 17 ladies attended the breakfast at Village Inn. Good food, good service and lots of chatter -- and don’t’ forget the free pie!
On Wednesday June 1st, at 9:30 we will be going to IHOP for breakfast. There will be a sign up at the clubhouse, so I can get a head count.

Southfork Women's Club. When our Women's Club is not doing Charitable work, we just may go out and enjoy a delightful breakfast. Eggs, pancakes, bacon, waffles, just to name a few of the entrees we enjoyed at The Village Inn. A wonderful turnout, great conversation, sad to see a few of our group heading home for the summer. What a great place Southfork is. Oh, did I mention free pie on Wed. I for one enjoyed the coconut custard, very naughty. See you next month gals. Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Mothers Day. Serving ice cream with a smile!!
Thank you Southfork HOA for a pleasant Ice Cream Social on Mothers Day. Our servers, Harry and Ron, generously filled our bowls with yummy ice cream. We had several topping choices. As you can see, it certainly was a great success. We ladies appreciate your efforts. A pleasant way to spend time with neighbors and friends. All ladies were given a long stemmed carnation, again, so very thoughtful.

So Many Years Gone By To all Grandads!
There is a man, how he sits in his chair thinking of years gone by, quickly he smiles, slowly he frowns at his thoughts of good times and bad. He takes his photo album of so many years gone by, so many smiling faces all looking at him. All of his children, oh how they have grown, from babies to parents with babies of their own, staring up at his face as he flips through open pages of his life. So many memories of so many years gone by and so sadly missed but the memories are never forgotten. HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL!
Lap Throws and Shawl’s Needed
The Yarn Hookers group are putting together a project in time for the Christmas holidays and we are asking help from any of you who crochet or knit. We need completed crocheted or knitted items such as Lap Throw’s or Shawl’s , to be made and help us with the donation that we plan on giving to the local nursing homes.. So for any snowbirds or year round residents we implore your help in making something to be ready by December. Storyline Walt Kowalski is a widower who holds onto his prejudices despite the changes in his Michigan neighborhood and the world around him. #1 - Here’s a real angel and baby doll with the great smile (she still has). This is a tough one, but look around, you’ll see her a lot! She is another pro-active citizen of Southfork! From the north, she’s been here under five years but she’s well-known!
#2 – This handsome little dude (with the curl) has lived in Southfork under five years too, but you’ve seen him everywhere-a busy body doing so many things. This is a tough one, but when you hear -it’s like “darn I should’ve known!” Oh – a Floridian too!
Oh - a clue for you – I believe they may wear glasses today! And they are not related in any way!
#3 - What a beautiful young lady and a well-known Southfork resident, having lived here over 15 years! She’s from the northeast and there’s no way you can miss this beauty! A very interesting person and I can’t wait to tell you more about her (and the others) next time! Come on – you can get this one!!!!
We only have three Babes this month, as many of our neighbors have ventured north for the summer and many have photos stored there. I so appreciate everyone for being so cooperative. IT’S TIME TO REVEAL OUR MAY “BABES”
#1 and #2 – If you guessed BOB AND DONNA ELDER – you are correct!!! Bob was born April 16th in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. He and Donna moved to Southfork in 2009 and they’ve been married 60 years! Wow! They have two daughters, two granddaughters and two great grandsons. Bob owned a tractor business in Columbiana, OH and sold his business in 1990. He had a great toy tractor collection but had to sell it when they moved here. DONNA ELDER, born Donna James on March 4th in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker and sold homemade candy on the side. She was also a cosmetic Beauty Counselor. Now she is an avid fan of the computer (go girl). Donna and Bob also enjoy eating out and participating in the Southfork activities. You’ll always see those smiling faces out and about and they enjoy their home on Ewing Drive!
#3 - You had to guess this pretty face as MARY JO DYE! Look close-you will see her as today. Mary Jo was born in Alliance, Ohio on February 16th and she and hubby, Marvin, have resided on Mustang for over 20 years - some of the first residents in our community. Married on September 2, 1956, Mary Jo and Marvin will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year! That is wonderful! They have four children, 11 grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Mary Jo has been a “Professional Home Mother” caring for the children and keeping books for their 39-acre farm business in Ohio. I think she can do about anything! She’s also our 2016 shuffleboard QUEEN! Congrats, Mary Jo! (P.S. – Kathy Gallick did a beautiful article on Mary Jo and Marvin in the December newsletter – great to read!)
#4 – Well, this handsome face belongs to RON WHITE! Surprised?? Well, don’t be! Ron was born May 5th in Buffalo, New York. Ron and wife, Mary (our ‘It’s My Party, I’ll Cry If I Want To’ girl) moved here on Maverick Drive four years ago. Married 51 years (they aren’t old enough for that), they are parents of two children and three grandchildren. Ron – being such an outgoing person, has lots of interesting stories to share – some of which are unbelievable, but true. For 25 years, he was a “medical fraud” investigator for Excellus Blue Cross – an independent fraud investigation company. What goes on in our medical/physician, professional-providers realm, is alarming. No not all are bad people, but the ones who are, will face the music. Ron is also still a member of the Buffalo Division of FBI – Citizens Academy. Ron claims he is an ‘amateur’ golfer but enjoys the game enough to “keep on trying.” Kuddos, Ron for all you’ve done within your profession! So glad you and Mary are part of our Soutfork Community!
#5 – This little “angel” with the wonderful personality is PEGGY ELKINS! You have to know her to get the clue about the “laugh and personality.” Born as Peggy Crandell in Flint, Michigan on August 13 th. She and husband Max, have been married 46 years and have three children and five grandchildren. Peggy retired from Corunna Public Schools as Secretary. She loves quilting and reading and the Elkins reside on Ewing Drive. Oh yes, she and Lonnie Layne are sisters and Peggy is responsible for Lonnie and Roger’s choice to retire here in Southfork! Way to go Peggy!
