EASTER DINNER 4pm, Sunday, March 27th Easter Ham for our annual dinner will be ready at 4pm on Sunday, March 27th and provided for by the Park Management..

This is a Potluck and there will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for all who would like to attend so we know how many hams have to be purchased.

We would like to invite all Southfork residents and overnight guests on this special holiday and to join your fellow neighbor and friends for a fantastic feast.

Bring a dish to pass that will serve at least 8 to 10 people and the rest is potluck style.. The coffee will be perking so come and enjoy a cup and enjoy the day. There will also be Iced Tea, but you are welcome to bring a different beverage if you like.

Women’s Club

On February 3rd we had 43 women attend out monthly meeting at the clubhouse and opened with the pledge to the flag..

The Quilting Club showed us the beautiful pillows and quilts and pillowcases they have made so far. They will be such a blessing to the women and children who receive them at Sunrise Battered Women's center.

Nancy Steding will be acting Chairman for the Charity Committee until a permanent one is found. We received a few volunteers to do the planters by the pool and Jean Bittman will be tending to them and has plans to have real plants for us to enjoy.

The Group presented flowers and gift cards as a thank you to Marielle Quain and Phyllis Grossi for their many years of dedication and service to the Women's group.

We had a speaker from Audibel, Mr Anthony Carbone who spoke on hearing loss and the different types of hearing aids and why some people have on going problems. He was very informative. .

Heidi Cross spoke to us about what is happening at Cornerstone Center for Women. It was shocking to find out we have human trafficking happening right here in Dade City! She will send us an outline of the signs for women caught in this horrible life and what to do if you spot one. She also told us about positive progression for some of their young clients. We blessed her with a $100. check from our charity fund.

We passed out a copy of the suggested new by-laws for the members to read and give feed back to the board so any changes can be made prior to our next meeting On March 2nd, where they will be read and voted on.

We also passed out sign-up sheets to form a committee for the Bazaar and still have 3 openings that need to be filled so we have another successful outcome.

We have 6 people signed up to do baskets for raffling and will need several more so please think of a theme that would be interesting and sign up at our March meeting.

As an added outreach we decided to use all the Easter baskets we had in storage to bless the kids through Daystar, we plan to have books, coloring books and crayons, small toys or stuffed animals, plus a new toothbrush, combs & brushes or other useful items instead of candy. If interested these baskets need to be returned by March 17th to Carol Whitbeck. We thank our February Hostesses Linda Adams, & Judy Batteen, we enjoyed the pretty decorations, wonderful fruit salad, punch and cake. Good Job Ladies! We celebrated our February Birthdays Marielle spoke about the Soup Supper on Valentine's Day and reminded us to have our soup there by 4:00pm at the latest. We still have a few tickets left to sell so time is running out if you'd like some!

We look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting March 2nd.

Super Bowl pool, not easy to run, Super Bowl party, whether you enjoy the game or not, Go Peyton, 65 inch TV. to enjoy our game and monthly movies, how lucky can we get.

We all play a part in this community, some more than others, but being a small part of our community, sometimes makes it real worth while to get up in the morning. We may not always agree, but with a good attitude toward each other, we move forward toward our goals.

Thanks Southfork HOA, and when you see a member in your travels, say Thank You, they are working hard for you.

Due to an out-of-state emergency and death in my family, this old mind was far from my reporting duties to Phyllis. We will be back!!

Saturday, March 19th Time:

Note: This is the last year for two-a-year carport sales. Next year we will have only ONE Carport Sale and it will be held the last Saturday in February. This was voted on by the Association Board in order to attract the most Snowbirds and not be in competition with other parks in November.

Let me introduce to you Craig and Carol Whitbeck. They reside at 38703 Brahman Drive. Carol and Craig are from Michigan. Will enjoy 50 years of marriage this year. Their family includes 4 children and 9 Grandchildren.

The Whitbecks came to Florida to visit friends at Grove Ridge and wanted to see what was available in an adult community. Visiting Grove Ridge, thank goodness, they looked across the street and were very impressed with the inviting atmosphere Southfork offered. Fortunate for us, they made the decision to join our community. They are now full time residents.

Let me begin with Craig. Craig has worked as a master mechanic for over 30 years. He was also a scout master for 10 years. Craig grew up in the Detroit area. We have Craig to thank for the extensive printing jobs he does for our Community, voting ballots, tickets for all events, breakfast placemats, card game printings, just to mention a few. Craig has served as an H.O.A director and secretary as well. Oh, guess who takes our cans to recycle? Craig!

Carol, is so very talented. Carol also grew up in the Detroit area, taught ceramic classes for 15 years, worked in management for McDonalds for 10 years. Craig and Carol enjoy craft shows, to let others enjoy their talent, but stick to our local Kumquat Festival here in Dade City. We enjoy table decorations, planter pots by the pool, Carol is our Women's Club photographer and now will preside as Vice President of our Woman's Club. She also loves her quilting skills, and many a young lady will enjoy her pillow case dresses.

They enjoy camping on their property up north, enjoy water sports with children and grandchildren. They enjoy visiting their family in Arizona, Tennessee, and Michigan.

As if that is not enough, if you visit Gulfside Hospice Center on 301, you've got it, volunteering and helping out there weekly.

I personally know of many kind and gracious acts these 2 residents perform.

How blessed we are to enjoy this type of neighbor in our community.

RESCHEDULED HEALTH/WELLNESS SEMINARS Florida Hospital has agreed to come to Southfork the 2nd Thursday of each month to educate us on a variety of health related topics. The March topic will be and rescheduled from February:: Basic Emergency CPR and Recognizing the signs and symptoms of (Strokes and Heart Attacks) THURSDAY, March 10th 10:00AM – 11:00PM Clubhouse

Let’s bring the New Year in with a commitment to Being Healthy!! Remember, “you may see signs of a stroke or heart attack” and not know it is serious. Mark your calendars and don’t miss this one – You may catch an attack and be able to get to 911 before anything serious happens!

Future seminars will cover topics such as: Joint Preservation/pain-free function Dealing with Diabetes and Prevention Breast Cancer Awareness (keep your loved ones informed)

If there are health topics you would like to see covered, let the office know and we’ll see what we can arrange.

Yarn Hookers Thursday, March 10th, 3:30pm (this means it is for both knitting and crocheting) Anyone interested in either of the above are more than welcome to meet with us on Thursday, March 10th, at 3:30pm in the main hall of the clubhouse for our initial meeting to decide what we want to do and accomplish..

The purpose of this group is not only a social hour of knitting, crocheting or anything made with yarn and needles, but this group brings ideas to pass along and maybe getting into some projects we never knew we could do. .

You must supply your own yarn needles and patterns.

Patterns can be passed, help can be given and anyone who has never knitted or crocheted can come and learn how and join in the fun of accomplishment. So many of us are novices and need help in getting started and what a treat it is to see our struggles but we are willing and daring to try anything that we are taught. We have at least one person willing to teach whomever wants to learn and we’re looking for more talented yarn hookers who would be willing to share their knowledge. We’ll have projects for those that are interested or each can do their own project with help available. First timers, suggest a potholder pattern to start your venture…….

This group can, (if they want), make items they do not want to keep, then we can donate to local nursing homes, groups that help unwed mothers with newborns or any organization that helps with the needy, (this would be an option each can decide on their own). Just some suggestions but most would want to keep what they make for their homes or families.

2016 HAND AND FOOT TOURNAMENT

On Saturday January 23, 2016 the 8th Annual Hand & Foot Tournament was held.

There were 7 tables of players and 3 full tables of finger food. Everyone brought a feast of goodies including sandwiches, various entrees and desserts. Coffee was served. Between games and during the games, everyone took advantage and munched on all the goodies.

There was a lot of anxiety at first and everyone was quiet, but once everyone was seated and the game started, you could hear the giggles, chatter, and laughter starting, then the fun began.

Thanks to Phyllis Grossi for helping to check in of the entrants and passing out the rules with seat position's for each contestant. Both Phyllis and Carol Whitbeck did all the verifying of the sheets and totaling them to make sure all was correct and to see who all the winners were. I also want to thank Pat Grossi who kept the coffee flowing, and helping with the food tables where it was needed. Also, I want to thank all the contestants who helped in the cleanup after the event. And last but not least, I want to thank John and Sandy for setup of the clubhouse for our tournament.

It’s that time of year again here in Southfork and the Annual Mixed Shuffleboard Tournament will be in full swing. The 2016 Tournament will be held on Thursday, March 24th. Shufflers to be on site at 9:30am and Tournament starts at 10am.

The teams will consist of 16 ladies and 16 men. Please sign up on the sheet in the clubhouse if you are interested in playing. Cash Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.

Hotdogs, Soda and Water and Desserts will be served to all!

Maybe more of you, after seeing the great fun the entrants are having, will come and join the teams on a daily basis. Check the newsletter in the activities section for days and times for both the men’s and women’s days of playing..

We hope to see all of you for this great annual event as players and spectators.

Entertainment Series “An Evening of Irish Comedy” March 8th, 7pm Tickets are $7.50 per person

George Casey , Ireland’s King of Blarney

George Casey was born in a remote seaside village on the west coast of Ireland legendary for its storytelling. Growing up in a large family, George saw humor everywhere and honed his skills as a comic at the expense of his brothers and sisters.

For over 30 years now, George has been entertaining audiences all over the US with his selfdeprecating sense of humor and clean jokes and stories. Some of the acts George has opened for and toured with include Rosemary Clooney, The Osmond Brothers, Ray Price, Three Dog Night, Brooklyn Bridge, Donald O’Connor and Bobby Vinton. George performed with Bobby Vinton as his Special Guest Comedy Star in Vinton's Blue Velvet Theatre in Branson, Missouri until it's close in 2002. He has performed at Caesar's Palace, The Sahara, and is a regular act at The Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

A night of good clean comedy, laughing at ourselves.

Here comes March and the winds! Time to fly the kites! On the 15th The Ides of March are upon us. It was marked on the Roman calendar and by several religions in observance and became notorious as the date of Julius Caesar’s assassination in 44BC. The death of Caesar made the Ides of March (in Roman History) as one of the events that marked the transition from the historical period known as the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire! Now we know!

IT’S TIME TO REVEAL OUR FEBRUARY “BABES” #1 and #3 –Surprise!!! That’s Tony and Donna Trubiano! Bet these were some difficult ones, but look close and you’ll see them now. Tony was born in Detroit, Michigan August 19th and Donna was born Donna Miller in West Salem, Wisconsin, on June 24th. The Trubiano’s moved to Southfork in 2013.

They’ve been married 55 years and have three children and five grandchildren. Tony’s career path was store manager, car service advisor, and he retired from Home Depot at age 76! Wow! Donna was an elementary teacher and was employed at Minnesota Fabrics doing alterations and custom draperies and retired from there. Tony loves fishing, bowling, and golf. Donna still has a passion for sewing and quilting. She played the organ at her church for 61 years! Wow! Tony and Donna met while attending college in Minnesota and they’ve lived in Ohio, Michigan, and now Florida. You can see either one of them walking their beautiful black Lab, Sara, to the doggie park quite often. Great folks to know and glad they chose their home on Mustang! #2 – If you didn’t guess this little beauty, here’s the scoop – that’s none other than Bobbi Gillis! Born as Roberta Strang on June 27th in Stratford, Connecticut and raised there. She has three children – two sons in CT and one daughter in South FL. She also has seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren! (She’s too young to have great grandchildren)! Bobbi worked in accounting prior to retirement. She moved to S. FL in 1973 and retired to Southfork 12 years ago. She and Don Duarte, both lost their spouses in 2009, and they became friends. Don invited Bobbi to dinner/dancing and they’ve been dining, dancing, and traveling ever since. Bobbi is looking forward to spending the rest of her life with Don, who she says “has brought love, joy, and happiness” back into her life. “VIVA SOUTHFORK”…..to quote Bobbi! Life is great on Mustang! #4 & #5 – Now this had to be a really tough one, with that little sleeping beauty! They are

Jeanne Bittman, making their home on Ewing with doggie “Snickers.” Ed will take you for a ride in a classic car now (the little red wagon is long gone - I wanted the Corvair!) Ed enjoys antique and classic cars. He was born August 25th in Brooklyn, New York, and his career path was automotive and retired from banking. He and Jeanne moved here November 2010. Jeanne, born Jeanne Shildt in Altoona, Pennsylvania on February 18th. She worked in the medical wound care system many years and is semiretired in the nursing field. Jeanne enjoys reading, knitting, crewel work and gardening. Ed and Jeanne just celebrated their 20 wedding anniversary February 4th! Hope it was a great day for you both. Oh yes, and don’t challenge Ed to music trivia because you will lose – he knows all the songs – Name that Tune!

Tears of Passion (Submitted by a SF resident) I am sure that I am not the only one that has felt the tears of passion for a friend or loved one, regarding some emotional event or situation that has affected them. When I look deep within my own heart with understanding that no matter how much I might want to take the pain, suffering and heartache upon myself and spare them the grief, I am helpless to do so. All that I can do is to be there with words of kindness and compassion to console and comfort them in their time of need.

An individual can never stand so tall or give so much of themselves as they can when they want to help someone in need. Although it may seem hard sometimes to separate our own feelings when it comes to dealing with another’s suffering and grief, and because we know how we ourselves would feel. But it never crosses our minds as to the difference between ourselves and them. Remember, that what we ourselves may consider as a major tragedy in our own lives and are devastated that another may see or feel nothing more than a mere trifling event.

When we feel the deep inner passion to help someone else, we are only following the natural instinct of the human spirit to help console and comfort someone in their hour of emotional need. It is also a natural tendency that we take another’s problem as serious as we would our own. Using every tool of experience that we have at our disposal and apply them with compassionate sincerity from the heart, to be of some assistance we should be able to console and comfort while at the same time ease their pain using understanding and assurance that they are not alone during this stressful period.

These acts of compassionate feeling reasons our humanity for others and should not be confused with feelings of pity or for feeling sorry for them. It is the ability to share and feel the deeper association with their grief on an emotional level or other psychological experiences that brings with it sorrow and emotional pain. When we have and show compassion for another’s emotional situation, we are in fact showing them that we care and understand and that we are sincerely concerned.

It doesn’t really matter or make any difference if the situation is real or imaginary. Because what it really is , is how they see and feel it when someone is hurting from an emotional trauma we share their pain and suffering just as if it were our own.

The most that we can do is to be there with our support and compassion to console and encourage them.

“NEW� Coney Island Drive-Inn Location at corner of Gall Blvd & Seventh Ave (formally Abbott Station) Opening by mid-March Home of the footlong chilidog.

This place will also have outdoor seating for 50 people. A monthly feature will be a tribute to Elvis Presley, however a scheduled impersonator has yet to be determined, so Elvis has not entered the building. Looking forward to this place!!!!

Soup Supper

On Valentine's Day the Women’s Club had another successful fundraiser for our Charity Committee.

A delicious soup supper with crusty bread and a dessert was enjoyed by 115 people and a sell out of all tickets. Seating was limited but there was a seat for everyone….

We had a full house with 16 crockpots of different homemade delicious soups and homemade dessert’s to finish off the meal. It was an all you could eat meal with barely any left overs.

After supper we played a game led by Peggy Elkins. Everyone was given a gift and placed in front of them which no one could look at and it was a story and when “left” or “right” was mentioned the gifts had to be sent in that direction. At the end of the story the gift that was in front of the person, it was theirs to keep. There were many gift certificates and cash and even a certificate for ice cream to the pleasure of everyone who received them. It made for a better evening when everyone got something..

I want to thank everybody who supported us even some Blue Jay people were here and they enjoyed the supper with many good comments.. We have a very good relationship with our neighbors.

After expenses we cleared $611.00 for our Charity Committee and I must say a real great success..

A special mention to Craig Whitbeck who did all the printing for the Women's Club.
