A message from the President...
Dear Friends and Neighbors, If you will remember, the HOA included in your annual meeting notice a form to complete regarding suggestions for improvement to our community. Immediately following the Annual Meeting, I went through those forms and itemized the suggestions that you submitted. Several of the items have already been addressed and as we move through the next few months, you will begin to see other suggestions come to fruition. As your HOA President and representative of your Board of Directors, and in conjunction with the owners and management of Lake Hammock Village, we are all working together to improve our community. On another note, March looks to be a very busy month here at Lake Hammock Village. We have multiple events to assist our Relay for Life Team, including a spaghetti dinner and a breakfast. In addition, we have our annual Spring Garage Sale, Health Fair and St Patrick's Day Potato Bar. I encourage you to attend all or as many events as possible to support your friends, neighbors and community. Finally, I want to thank all those individuals who have assisted with Bingo and those who have provided pies and desserts. We are enjoying phenomenal success and without each and every one of you, Bingo would NOT be the success that it has become. Clark

My apologies to Nancy & Joe Kifus for missing their anniversary on February 17! (If we have missed your anniversary, please let us know!)
Every summer they have a family reunion that includes 100-125 people. They have 9 grandchildren (8 boys and 1girl) and 4 great grandsons. When you see them out and about, take the time to get to know your neighbors. Submitted by Stephanie Strom
Photo by Sharon Bowden Photo by Sharon Bowden Randy and Pat Bergstrom were both born in Chicago, IL. They met when they were children. Their mothers met in the 50’s in a Chicago apartment basement doing their laundry. They became friends and their families went on many vacations together. Pat was 5 years old and Randy was 8. They reconnected later when Randy joined the Navy. They married in 1968 after he was discharged and live many years in Schaumburg, IL. They have two children and four grandchildren. For the last ten years, they lived in Ohio and became loyal Ohio State Buckeye fans. Pat retired from the staffing industry as a Sales Branch Manager. Pat said “there is nothing more rewarding than finding people jobs.” Randy was a plumber, and retired from doing that. He is also a proud Navy veteran. When you get a chance, ask him about his adventures as he was on three different ships in his four year Navy career. Their favorite past time was RVing. They were snowbirds for three years and then found Lake Hammock Village. They have been here, at 42 Sargent, since July, 2015, and they are full time residents. They enjoyed the special welcome they got from residents in the park. They enjoy swimming, CLR, potlucks, women’s lunches and Dining by the Book. Stop by anytime. They spend a lot of time on their lanai.

Judy and Paul Rouble purchased 209 Glen Este Court in March 2014. They have spent a great deal of time creating a new look in their residence. Judy is the architect of the furnishings and colors. Paul is always supportive of her choices. Prior to coming to Lake Hammock, they spent about four months down the road at La Casa del Sol, which wasn’t exactly their idea of a ‘casa’. Paul and Judy met in 1992 at beautiful Springbank Park in London, Ontario, Canada. London is about halfway between Detroit and Toronto. Since that time they have married in Las Vegas in 1994, and bought a house in central London. Judy absolutely loved her back yard and enjoyed the landscaping accentuated with tons of ivy. In Florida, she deeply misses Boston Ivy and English Ivy. They would like to know if there is a good climbing ivy here; please let them know if you have any ideas. Last spring they decided to sell their house in London and moved to an apartment in August. Painting and decorating were a large part of their time before coming to Florida. Although Judy and Paul miss their back yard, they are opposite Springbank Park where they first met. Going back to London in April will give them time to adjust to their new home. Maddie, a six pound Yorkie, is the other member of the family. She enjoys daily walks in the park, wherever she is. At Lake Hammock, she has made a special friendship with Roscoe; almost daily they chase and play with each other relentlessly until Maddie decides it’s time to go home. Maddie needs some training even though she is six years old. Letting her off the leash creates a major challenge to get her back.
Judy and Paul are educators. Judy spent much of her career teaching primary and junior grades. Following retirement in 1996, she took post graduate training in addiction counseling; this was followed by a number of years counseling clients in her home. Paul had a much more varied career as an elementary and special education teacher. He spent a number of years in a developmental school, moving from a teacher to a principal’s role. For the last twelve years of his career he worked in roles as an education officer, principal, and program director of a residential program for learning disabled students. Recently, Judy and Paul took their first cruise and look forward to many more. They are regulars at Wednesday morning coffee and are gradually working toward doing more volunteering in the community. Judy also plays Hand and Foot. Paul has three children from a previous marriage and they have six grandchildren. Judy has spoiled them. They will be going back up North in April and will return the end of October.

children in elementary schools as a sign of stormy spring beginnings. "So many mists in March, so many frosts in May," and "when March blows its horn, your barn will be filled with hay and corn," are two more anecdotal phrases repeated by generations that are not necessarily always true.
The month of March – Just some fun facts March was named after Mars, the Roman god of war. The zodiac signs of Pisces and Aries fall in the month of March. The first day of spring, St. Patrick's Day, and Passover all fall in the month of March. There are numerous sayings, expressions, adages, weather proverbs, idioms and quotes that apply to the month that heralds spring in the northern hemisphere. These traditional springtime sayings have background meaning and rich cultural heritage. March Madness The expression, "March Madness," was first used in 1939 by Henry V. Porter, a high school basketball coach in Illinois. The term was used to describe the excitement about the Illinois state tournament for boy's basketball. Today, the term is used by sports promoters and fans, especially for basketball. Commercials and promotions that advertise sales for retail merchants also frequently use the term, "March Madness." Weather Proverbs for the Month of March Weather in March can be turbulent, and frequently changing. There are numerous traditional sayings and phrases that refer to the weather, well-known adages that help us be prepared for this stormy month. "When March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb" is an English proverb that has been shortened to "March: In like a lion, out like a lamb." While this saying is anecdotal and not true every year, the phrase has been taught to millions of
Idioms, Quotes & Sayings for the Month of March "March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers," is another English proverb, sometimes shortened to "April showers bring May flowers." The Cherokee name for the full moon in March is "Windy Moon," referring to the winds of March. The March Hare or The Mad March Hare - The expression, "mad as a March hare," comes from a fictional character. There are many versions of the March Hare, a character originally created by Lewis Carroll in his famous book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Disney classic and modern renditions portray the hare as distracted and frantic, possibly modeled after cultural perceptions of rabbits' behavior in spring. St. Patrick's Day Sayings and Irish Blessings Cultural lore and tradition has evolved in the U.S. throughout the years, as the celebration of St. Patrick's Day has become more commercialized. Wearing green, lucky clovers, and leprechauns have all become tradition. "Luck of the Irish," "pinch me, I'm Irish," and "there's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow" are all expressions related to the Irish and St. Patrick's Day. Many Irish blessings are well-known, as well, including the following popular Irish Catholic blessing: "May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand."
