A Valentine Forever A Valentine is nothing like a chocolate or a rose. For in a week these shall be gone, but Valentines remain.

If love were always sweet to tongue or fragrant to the nose, Each day would be like Valentine’s and we would go insane.

Happy New Year from the Geyer household. I hope 2016 is a great year for all.

Thanks to all that helped with the New Year’s party. I think the people that attended had a great time. It is a shame more people don’t attend, therefore we won’t be having any more New Year’s parties in the near future. It is way too expensive to have for just 60 people. It cost $2000. Just for the entertainment, plus $300 dollars for the food. If anyone has a solution we will gladly talk to them. Thanks to all that took down the Christmas decorations.

We will be setting up committee’s for this new year and maybe we can recruit some new volunteers. I will post the list on the board, so look it over.

We have several things planned for this year and hopefully you will attend some of them.

Remember to join the H.O.A., we need a strong community.

By the time you read this I should be your president for the next two years. I need your support to keep Southfork the great park it is.

Tom ______________________________________________________________________________ H.O.A Sponsored Pizza Party @ Pavilion Friday, February 19th, 5:30pm There is no fee for this event for H.O.A. members. You must show your H.O.A. membership card when arriving. Pizza will be provided but you must provide your own beverage. You may also bring any other side dishes or snacks if you wish.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will have the Bon Fire.

Please bring your lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather this event will be held at the Clubhouse.

Please put your name on the sign-up sheet at the Clubhouse if you plan on attending this event.

Thanks To All the Volunteers It would be next to impossible to conduct the many social activities and the entertainment, newsletter, breakfasts, potlucks, bingo, Monday Coffee Hour and the list goes on and on without the help of so many volunteers. The Southfork Association would not be where it is today with out the free time and help that is given. This includes many hours because it is continuous and never ending and especially for the same people who do the same things year after year.

We have the servers at the events, the set up/take down crews, the 50/50 salespeople, and so many others who do so much along with the taking care of the signs and selling of event tickets and the list is never ending!

The next time you attend an affair, be sure to extend your thanks for all of their hard work and effort. There is always room for more volunteers to join in and help out.

Remember, the Association is a social group and our job is to schedule as many events as possible and to keep it an active “55”” plus community as advertised. So try and remember this if something is not going the way you would like it , you might then be asked to help at the next function and that means another volunteer was recruited .

Women’s Club

On the 6 of January 43 members met in the Clubhouse for their monthly meeting. The secretary's minutes and the treasury's report were read and approved.

The quilters had brought samples of their beautiful work. They are making cushions To be given to the Battered Women shelter.

Next moth we will have two speakers. 1st one at 9:30 Tony Carbone of Audibel will talk on earring problems and at 10:30 Heidi Cross of Cornerstone will tell us how we can help. It should be a very interesting meeting.

We talked about our 2nd fundraiser to get funds for our charities. We will have like last Year a soup with crusty bread and a dessert, followed by a very funny game with Lots Of prizes. We should have about 15 crockpots of soup. Please buy your ticket as soon as possible at $7.00. per person.

We had the elections for a new Board and finally I got someone to replace me (I have been trying for the last 3 years without success) The new Board is: President Vice-president Treasurer Secretary

Then we had our speaker Isabelle Wirth of Daystar. She thanked all the ladies for their generosity and we are the biggest donor at Daystar. At Christmas we gave them 27 bags of food containing 27 loaves of bread 27 lbs of margarine and each bag had a ham with vegetables and dessert.

It was suggested that when we bring our 2 cans of food at the next meeting also add a pair of socks for the homeless and there is a great need for that.

We celebrated the January's birthdays with a nice cake donated by Maggie Dull. Thanks for your generosity. Thanks also to the hostesses who were helping Maggie they are Betty Butler and Shirley Hood.

Before I end my last note for the Women's Club's Paper I want to thank my Board who helped Me a lot After 12 years of being President it is time for new blood. Thank you to all the members who supported me you are the greatest like I used to say You are The Cream Of the Crop (La creme de la creme) Together we did great things we helped a lot of people in Dade City.

Together we will continue and I will always be available if you need my help.

Women’s Club Charity Fundraiser Soup Supper

Date is Sunday, February 14, 2016 Time: 4:30pm

Join us for an evening of fun and laughter with A GOOD SOUP SUPPER which includes crusty bread and dessert and we are also giving out door prizes.

We of the Women’s club take great pride in the delicious homemade soups made by our members. You have to come and taste these delicious soups and go away even wanting more.

This year we are having a unique game with many prizes being given out. It is a special gift exchange game which is so much fun and so many winners. Come and have some fun along with enjoying a great meal.

Tickets ($7.00 each) will be sold starting in JANUARY. First come, first served!!!!!

Tickets must be purchased prior to this event. No tickets will be sold at the door!

Southfork Women’s Club Membership Drive This is an invitation to all women of Southfork to come and join us as a group, not only for social but for all the charity that the club does on a monthly basis.

We are a unique group and the dues to join is only $5.00 a year. Now where can you join anything today for this low rate? This dues fee includes a monthly refreshment of cake and coffee (celebrating the monthly birthdays), and a Christmas luncheon at no extra cost to the members. There are some meetings during the year that we do provide a lunch with other foods such as subs, salads and so much more again at no cost to the members. . We also have two (2) fundraisers a year to help with all expenses.

The main focus of this group is to provide help to the many charities in our area and our charity group is headed by a committee of volunteers. . This committee provides us with monthly speakers whom are so informative and helpful and of course we are always looking for new speakers. We give out over 30 Christmas dinners to needy families, donations are given monthly to the many agencies such as: Battered Women, Cornerstone Center for Women, School supplies for area needy children and so much more that would take another page to list and we never stop giving. We also collect, Toys for Tots and have collected blankets for the homeless in Dade City area. Need we go on……….?

Come and join us and find out what we do and we meet every first Wednesday of the month at 9:30am. Summer months the members enjoy a coffee hour or going out for breakfast at some of the nearby restaurants.

Let me introduce myself and my husband. Our names are Mary and Montie Bolin. I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland and Montie is from Indiana. We met through my brother as they were both in the Navy. We have been married 66 years as of Nov. 19. Yes, that is a long time, but it has been quite a journey. We have 3 daughters and they are our guardian angels now as we advance in age.

We came to Southfork 18 years ago and have enjoyed every minute here, however my husband became a private person while I love people and became active in a variety of things, especially The Women’s Club charity committee. As I mentioned, we have been here for 18 years and finding Southfork was a blessing. We spent 2 years at a R.V Park and proceeded to look around Florida for a permanent home. We went up and down the East and West Coasts , I soon became tired of looking and said I was ready to go back to Ohio where we had lived for 30 years., My husband said he had one more place to look at and I reluctantly agreed. It turned out to be beautiful Southfork . We purchased our home on Tumbleweed and have enjoyed many good times and events I became chairperson for our Charity Committee. We make money by having two fund raisers per year. The Women’s Club has a Bazaar in Nov. and another fund raiser in Feb. We then decide what organizations or needy group to donate the money too. We have had a wonderful caring group of people here at Southfork. I am surely going to miss them.

If you never played Shuffleboard, we have a terrific group of women that meet twice a week and it is a lot of fun. I learned from one of the best, Mary Jo Dye I did manage to win a couple second place tournaments, but never got that first place, but it did not bother me, I really enjoyed it.

I was diagnosed with poor blood circulation back in April and it lead to the amputation of my right leg, just below the knee, and later part of my big toe on my left foot. I am doing quite well, and am learning to walk with the prosthesis. I want to mention that the doctors, nurses, and all the people at Bay Front Medical Center have been top notch. I especially want to mention a male nurse by the name of Shannon who literally saved my life and was my angel.

I had a heart attack during this ordeal and required a stent and a pace maker. There was excessive bleeding from the pace maker and he kept changing the dressing and if he had not applied pressure all through the night, I would not be here today (As submitter, I am just saying one angel looking out for another.)

Believe me when I say the Lord my God was in charge and only he could have worked through Shannon's hands that early morning miracle, because the morning after the bleeding stopped, completely and I am now planning my return to Ohio to be with my family. So begins another chapter in our journey through life. New Address: 7551 Walt’s Way, Cincinnati, Ohio 45247 God bless each and every one that touched my life. Thank you so very much for all the get well cards, mass cards and prayers. I will never forget Southfork ,, it has a special place in my heart. Merry Christmas and A Very Happy New Year.

FEBRUARY 2016 IN SOUTHFORK Here comes February – already the second month of 2016! This is leap year, so we get an extra day this month. A lucky friend celebrates her birthday every four years on February 29th, so she will be 18 going on 72! Anyway, Happy Valentine‟s Day to all and remember to treat your “sweetie” well on the 14th! On the 2nd, we‟ll see if the groundhog sees his shadow; if he does, then we‟ll have six more weeks of “winter” (in Florida?). President‟s Day is the 15th so let‟s honor our past and present country leaders. Happy, Happy Birthday to all the February Sweethearts!

IT‟S TIME TO REVEAL OUR JANUARY “BABES” #1 and #5 – You‟ve seen these two „around the park.‟ Yes, SANDI and JOHN BARTOSZEK, our Southfork Managers! SANDI - born Sandi Leggee, December 28th in Brockton, Massachusetts and raised in Eastern MA. Sandi and John‟s 20-year passion for sailing culminated in living aboard their 40‟ sailboat and sailing the US east coast and Florida Keys for three years. The sailboat was traded for a recreational vehicle and they traveled the eastern US for another two years. Sandi says her culinary expertise has caused weight gain! Where - I ask? They‟ve been in Southfork for almost five years. JOHN - born on December 26th and raised in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He graduated Lowell Technology as a Nuclear Engineer. He enjoyed slalom skiing, playing tennis and hockey for decades. He designed and built several of their homes and he owned a successful investment company - buying, rehabbing, and selling homes in Florida. John and Sandi met in April and were married in August. Still married after 35 years and they have three children and nine and a half grandchildren between them. Marriage turned John into an avid sailor. They both are pursuing a Bachelor‟s Degree in Theology. Best wishes and thanks for all you do! #2 – Bet you missed this one – RICHARD RICKS! He was born March 12, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana (he‟s proud to turn 88 soon). Richard was in the printing industry for 40 years, working throughout Indiana, Florida, Texas, and Connecticut. He retired in 1995 at age 67. You have seen Richard on his special golf cart with his American Brittany dog, Scoobie, riding in his special seat.

He has rescued fostered Brittany dogs and one being the late, Riley, who unfortunately has passed. Richard has lived on Palamino Drive for over four years. What fun to talk to him! #3 – Another one you missed – BOB JONES – born December 11th and raised in Aurora, Illinois. He graduated from Aurora Univers1ity with teaching degrees – history AND business. After Army basic training, Bob joined the reserves and taught. He taught high school history and a few years later switched to teaching business classes. Teaching for 36 years at Lisle High School in Lisle, IL and was high school business manager in charge of all events tickets sold, as well as printing for the school district. Bob loved coaching sports and during his career at the high school, he coached basketball, golf, cross country, and girls track. Now you talk about all around professional!!! Bob and his lovely wife, Nancy, purchased their home in Southfork in 2002 and spent their first winter in 2006. They have three children and five grandchildren. #4 – This is our special little gal – MARY WHITE! Now this was a fun one, as hubby, Ron, secretly revealed this one of a kind pic! Mary was born as Mary Guaftaferro on June 16th in Buffalo, New York and raised there too (the oldest of six children). Mary believes the tears were shed during a birthday party. We may do that now, but not at that age!  Mary and Ron have been married 51 years! They have two children and three grandchildren. Mary was a medical secretary in a surgeon‟s office and did volunteer work, plus a stay-at-home mom to raise her children. She loves to read, sew, paint and “socialize” and that she can do very well. You‟ll know Mary as the vibrant personality and a big contributor to the Activities Committee here in Southfork. Thanks Mary!

Dog Days at Southfork

February 29th – 2pm @ the pavilion

There are so many adorable dogs at Southfork and we are setting aside a special day for them.

We will have a “pet parade” in the pavilion area with all the participating animals.

If you have a pet, other than a dog, you are welcome to bring it.

Everyone will be responsible for their own pet and they MUST BE ON A LEASH. Also, you will be required to “pick up” after your animal.

You can dress up your pet any way you would like. A prize will be awarded to the most outstanding pet.

SOUTHFORK CINEMA, Tuesday February 23 - 6:30pm!!

“A Walk in the Woods” Our next Tuesday Night Movie will be February 23rd @ 6:30pm. Join us in the clubhouse for this exciting movie..

The “CineBistro will continue serving all you can eat popcorn for 25 cents and ice cream for $1.00 a bowl or $.50 for a cone…. You are welcome to bring your own beverages. There’s plenty of seating but feel free to bring your own comfy chair! Don’t forget, we take requests!!! Something you want to see? Just let us know .

This movie stars Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. It is a comedy about the antics of two older men which all of us will enjoy since we can relate to it.

The alternate movie will be “Secretariat” in case there is a problem getting the main feature.

Another Christmas golf cart parade has come and gone. We were blessed with a beautiful evening to see all the brightly lit homes and carts.

Congratulations to our first place winners, Craig and Carol Whitbeck from Southfork and Morgan Taylor and Jerry Conkle from Blue Jay. Thirty-six golf carts (and their occupants) participated, the biggest turnout we have had. After a great ride through Harmony Heights, Blue Jay and Southfork we landed at the pavilion for yummy snacks, drinks, the unusual 12 days of Christmas (read by John Bartoszek), and songs.

Thanks to John, Sandi and Tom for judging the contest (not an easy job) Craig and Carol for leading our parade, Harry Stilphen for being our fire starter, Jean Deiss for leading our songs, Michael Morandi for taking pictures, and last but not least everyone that took time out of their busy holiday schedules to attend.

Golf Cart Parade in December

HEALTH/WELLNESS SEMINARS Florida Hospital has agreed to come to Southfork the 2nd Thursday of each month starting in January 2016 to educate us on a variety of health related topics. The February topic will be: Basic Emergency CPR and Recognizing the signs and symptoms of (Strokes and Heart Attacks) THURSDAY, February 11th 10:00AM – 11:00PM Clubhouse

Let’s bring the New Year in with a commitment to Being Healthy!! Remember, “you may see signs of a stroke or heart attack” and not know it is serious. Mark your calendars and don’t miss this one – You may catch an attack and be able to get to 911 before anything serious happens!

Future seminars will cover topics such as: Joint Preservation/pain-free function Dealing with Diabetes and Prevention Heart Attacks/Strokes High Blood Pressure Breast Cancer Awareness (keep your loved ones informed)

Stroke Has A New Indicator

STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. .

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours and less, which is tough.

Recognizing A Stroke Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e.

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------Stick out Your Tongue NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
