Halloween Time Again!

Oh no, not again, the time is near and it always happens at this time of the year.

The hissing of an unlucky black cat and overhead all the screeching bats.

When gone completely is the sun, the vampires come out to have some fun.

Witches stir their caldrons or grab onto a broom, casting spells and cackling as they fly across the moon.

Skeltons dance around shaking all their bones, and playing many strange toons on all their xylophones.

Ghosts and goblins join the fun too and running about and shouting out BOO! Jack-o-lanterns smiling and burning bright, and just don’t worry it’s another Halloween night!

Hurricane Season Hurricane season is upon us and so far we here in Dade City have not encountered any bad weather and we do not want any.

Do not let this put you in the (it won’t hit us mood) because the season lasts until December 1st.

Always be on alert and listen to the weather forecasts. Be ready for any forecast of inclement weather. Stay safe!!!! ________________________________________________

Welcome back snowbirds (sun seekers). Some of you are here and the rest will be on the way soon.

We are planning Fall/Winter Activities and our movie night will continue each month. A Sloppy Joe event is planned for Oct 16th at the Pavilion with a camp fire afterwards. We had a great labor day pot luck with about 50 people attending.

Elections are just around the corner. We must have a slate of officers by the November Membership meeting. If interested contact Roger Layne or Harvey Barber and the offices that we have to vote on are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two Directors.

Elections will be held in January.

Let’s have some fun,

Tom Sloppy Joe Night 5pm - $3.50 per person We are going to have a Sloppy Joe night at the Pavilion, October 16th. The menu will be

Sloppy Joe Sandwich’s, Chips, Piece of Pie and a Drink. A second sandwich will be available at no charge. Price of admission will be $3.50 per person This will be a H.O.A. event which means you must

show your membership card when arriving.

Hopefully the weather will be good and we can have a Bon Fire. If the weather is bad we will eat in the CLubHouse. We will need some volunteers to help. We will have a sign up sheet so we will know how much food to get. Please bring your lawn chairs. The HOA will furnish the table settings.

Women’s Club

On Sep.2nd a group of ladies went to the Golden Corral for their meeting it was very enjoyable The food was excellent.

The ladies gave Kathy and I an ovation for the beautiful Profile written on me in the Southfork Paper. I like that profile so much that I will frame it and put it on the wall and every time I will look at it, it will make me smile. Thanks again Kathy for such a good job.

We discussed the upcoming events. The Bazaar and the Christmas Party that will be held in the Clubhouse. We are watching for Mary Bolin's return home and our contact is Mary Clifford her Guardian angel. Through her we will do what has to be done to help Mary.

Next month we are returning to the Clubhouse for our meeting Oct. 7th at 9:30am. Our hostesses will be Carol Albers and Katie Bellnier.

Alley Game Boards Have you purchased an ALLEY GAME BOARD made

by Marvin? Marvin has made over 70 of those boards. Some of us play every Thursday night at the club house and there are many games played with your friends in your home!

Will you bring your boards and friends on Thursday October 22 at 6 pm to help us show our appreciation to Marvin for his great craftsmanship and introducing a challenging game to all of the residents at Southfork!

New Resident profile Please welcome to our community Ms. Jean Rapinac and her faithful friend Rosie. They live at 10904 Prairie Drive.

Jean is originally from Illinois, suburbs of Chicago. Jean has three children, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

While on the Internet, Jean found Southfork and was very impressed with the pictures and homes offered. Purchased her home via Internet, sight unseen.

She loves dancing and taking walks with Rosie. She also enjoys sewing and making memory bears and a great fan of country music.

Love that "Willie.

The Grossi Family Pat and Phyllis are members of our Southfork Community.

When I arrived at Southfork, some years ago, Pat Grossi and Dixie Logoyda welcomed Armand and myself one early afternoon. Welcoming with literature, things to do in Southfork and a very friendly "Nice to have you as a neighbor."

Armand and I really appreciated that welcome, and to this day, I appreciate what they did. Thanks Pat and Dixie.

To list the many charitable things Phyllis has dedicated herself too will take many pages, so please, let me briefly inform you of all her unselfish donations to our community. Phyllis has served as Treasurer of our HOA for 5 years, other duties, Director of HOA, Women's Club Treasurer, being a member herself for 11 years.

Editor of the Southfork News for 8 years, Southfork Directory for 9 years, Creator of the “Annual” Hand and Foot Tournament for 7 years, Dare I go on, certainly…. Tops weight recorder and treasurer for 3 years, nice work girls, and with all these duties still finds time to play and work at bingo, play cards and always a pleasant smile.

Pat and Phyllis have been married for 56 years, have 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren with another on the way.

What would we do without them. and put it out of my mind.

I have often thought of this, and just try

Anything of interest happening in or around the Southfork area especially about our community activities and Who's that knocking on my door, press your Panic Control on your car keys, call 911 to alert any unusual activities, these are all of Phyllis's thoughts to keep us safe.

A simple thank you does not seem sufficient, but that is what I will say, thank you both for the effort you put into this community, making it a congenial, friendly place to live.

Illnesses and unfortunately, deaths should be known to all that wish to share with their neighbors. THE SEASON’S STARTING AGAIN…………………………………………………..

Snowbirds are flocking back to their southern home. Year long residents of Southfork are looking forward to the first cool front. Summer visitors, including grandchildren off from school, have returned to their Northern homes, with the next school year hanging over their heads.

Signs of community are starting up, with more people at bingo, shuffleboard, card games and the renewed activities of our community.

Welcome back to everyone, welcome to all new residents here in Southfork. about to begin.

Southfork’s winter season is

Among us who “summered over,” we’re tired of heat, humidity and thunderstorms. The park has a different feel to it, besides the oppressive heat, (it is tooooo quiet.) Many friends aren’t around----it’s like winter in our northern climates. We stay in our air-conditioned homes, take our air-conditioned cars to air-conditioned stores, restaurants and churches. We’re as much prisoners in the summer as we ever were up North in the winter. But----and it’s important-----winter’s on its way here in sunny Florida.

Winter is the time when retired Floridians keep check on the weather up North. Ice storms are recorded and snow depths are accepted with shaken heads and the sub-freezing temperatures are remembered with vague memories. We do let the ones back home know of our beautiful sunny climate….and brag we do!!!!

Winter time is good in Florida…………Winter time in Florida means we can continue moving and doing and appreciating this wonderful state!

To all of us in Southfork, it’s now time to enjoy!!!!!

This month’s movie is in such high demand we have to have a back-up in case we cannot obtain our first choice movie

50 to 1 - This is our second choice movie. This movie is about a misfit group of New Mexico cowboys who are on a journey of a lifetime when their crooked-footed racehorse qualifies for the Kentucky Derby. The cowboys face a series of mishaps on their way to Church Hill-Downs.

Halloween Wine Cheese Party Saturday, October 31st - -4:00 pm $5.00 per person

Costumes are Optional

We will offer a variety of wines (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic) along with crackers and cheese and garnishes .

This is open to all residents of Southfork and we urge all our new residents to come and meet your neighbors.

We will have a Trivia Challenge (easy questions for our aging brains) along with WII Bowling, Corn Toss and other games. Please put your name on the sign-up sheet in the Clubhouse if you plan on attending so we know how to plan.

HOMER NOODLEMAN Tuesday, October 13th, ---7 pm --- $7.50 per person You will not want to miss seeing this multi-talented performer. He is an English one-man comedy/variety show.

Homer Noodleman has made over 500 appearances on both American and British television.

He has performed in national variety shows in England, a command performance before Her Royal Highness, Princess Margaret and a show before Vice President George Bush at the Omni Hotel in Miami.

Prior to coming to America, Homer was involved in the writing and production of many theater and television shows. He has also written scripts and routines for leading entertainers such as Bob Hope and David Letterman.

He is guaranteed to keep you laughing for the entire evening.

FLU SHOTS FREE CLINIC Tuesday, October13 & Thursday, November 12 1:00PM Walgreens Pharmacist at Southfork Summer is almost over and flu season will be upon us before we know it. Southfork is once again hosting Walgreen’s Pharmacy Flu Shot Clinic right here in the clubhouse. No need to make a trip to your doctor’s office, just sign up in the clubhouse for either October 13 or November 12 at 1PM for your flu shot. Be sure to bring your insurance/ medicare information so they can bill your insurance. Cost is $25.99 without insurance. Any questions contact the office.

OCTOBER 2015 IN SOUTHFORK Ah, at last, the feeling of fall in the air! Welcome October!!!!

A couple of dates to remember in October: October 12th is Columbus Day and many of the countries in the New World and elsewhere celebrating the anniversary of Christoper Columbus’s arrived in the Americas on October 12, 1492. His mission was to prove the world was round – he was right!

Columbus Day became an official state holiday in Colorado in 1906 and a federal holiday in 1934. President Benjamin Harrison called upon the people of United States to celebrate Columbus Day on the 400th anniversary of the event. During the 400 year anniversary in 1892, teachers, preachers, poets, and politicians used Columbus Day rituals to teach ideals of patriotism.

These patriotic rituals were framed around themes such as support for war, citizenship boundaries, the importance of loyalty to the nation, and celebration social progress.

October 31st, many celebrate “Halloween.” I kind of miss the old “Trick Or Treat – Smell My Feet – Give Me Something Good to Eat” days. Of course we all know life was simpler many years ago when moms and dads didn’t have to exam the treat bags. We got lots of homemade goodies that children nowadays don’t get to enjoy – like candied apples, caramel popcorn balls, and homemade cookies! It’s a shame, but that’s the way it is, and now you can’t trust your children eating goodies, even from neighbors. Plus, we also ran from door to door without adult supervision, but now it requires parents to be security guards. Oh well, it could’ve happened back then too – who knows?

Have a great October and all of us who sweated out the heat in Southfork, welcome back our friends who have spent time up north during the summer.

We hope you had a great one and a safe return trip to Southfork! You’ve all been missed!! Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all the October “Fall” Folks!

It’s called “Who In The “Southfork” World Is This?” We will be posting childhood pictures of residents in the coming months and you’ll need to try to figure out who they are. We’ll be posting the answers in the next issue!
