On a regular basis I, send out emails when there are any happenings here at Southfork, such as deaths, sickness of a resident etc. during the summer months. If there are any happenings or excitement (hurricanes) here that you would not necessarily know about and would like to be kept up to date, I would gladly put you on my email mailing list.

The end of the 2014-2015 winter season is drawing near. As the season enters its wind-down stage and our seasonal residents prepare to leave it seems only fitting that we reflect on the months and days gone by.

First, I just want to take this time to thank our past president, Dot Cady for all the work she has put into the association for so many years. Best of luck to you and now relax and enjoy.

One look around and you will be able to see for yourself what all of us working towards a common goal have accomplished. In most cases it was the result of a coalition of residents all chipping in and taking on the many tasks at hand. If we were to give credit it should be given to all of you who took the time to attend meetings and to stay informed and give of your time and talent.

It is now time to get down to the business at hand. We have a great team and all of us come to the board with an amount of diversity allowing us to discuss various issues and make decisions that will certainly enhance the quality of life here in Southfork. There is no us or there is no them, it’s everyone working towards a common goal that will enable all to enjoy our many activities and entertainment and to move forward into the months and years ahead.

I would like to thank everyone for their patience over the past month while the officers and directors put everything into place. We will continue the great work this HOA is all about and that is to continue to have many activities and events and we will also listen to any suggestions you may have.

Now that the season is entering its final phase a lot of our seasonal residents will be leaving us this month. I’m hoping that you will take advantage of the events that we have scheduled before you leave and then take with you memories of a great season that was filled with fun and enjoyment. . Safe travels and have a good summer and hurry back!

Women’s Club

On March 4, 45 ladies met in the Clubhouse for their monthly meeting.

The clubhouse was very well decorated by Pat Dicks, Brenda Knights and Mary Bolin. Thanks for a job well done.

All the reports were read and approved.

Thanks to Tanya Hahn for giving us 4 bags of Avon Products to be raffled.

We celebrated the March birthdays: Linda Dickenson, Pat Dicks, Mary Bolin, Lynda Adams and Donna Elders.

I want to thank everyone in the Community who supported us for our Fundraiser, "Soup Supper" followed by a Unique Fashion Show.

Special thanks to our Manager’s, John and Sandy for their generous donation and help.

Thanks to all the Ladies who made some very delicious soups, fantastic desserts and very good Cornbread.

Thanks to Russ Wild and to Mike Miller and to all the models, we appreciate your help and it was so much fun.

The fundraiser was a real success and after our expenses we made $886.00 for our Charity Committee. So much good is done by this committee.

At this March meeting we were entertained by 20 Ladies from the “Zephyr Sound” Barbershop chorus and their songs and their voices were just beautiful and we hope to have them again.

Next month our hostesses will be Jean Martens and Dee Martin.

Unique fashion Show Submitted by, Kathy Gallick

Tonight was going to be a real treat. A variety of 18 soups, crusty bread, corn muffins and delicious dessert along with drinks were served for our dinner menu. One would think that would be enough, but wait!! There was so much more to come. Bubba and Buford, our masters of ceremonies entered our stage with a variety of valuable information. They had assembled a variety of shall I say, very attractive ladies, and were running a beauty pageant to select a Mizz Southfork. Who would receive the valued plaque?

Each contestant was introduced, some showing their "wears" more than others. Nails painted, hair fluffed and dresses adorned each put her best foot forward. But knowledge must go along with beauty.

Although each contestant was as lovely as the last, knowledge also counts. With that thought in mind, it was an extremely close race, Miss Fast Food, that would be Bill Strickland, knowing the answer to the very difficult question, What was the name of the Jetson's dog, and she proudly answered "Astro" and was awarded the coveted plaque, which I am certain will hang with joy in her home.

We loved all the very good sports who participated, thanks for making our charity event such a success, also, thanks to Marielle for all her hard work and planning.

Easter is the start of Spring Time to sort out your Summer things So sending wishes, just for you Enjoy a wonderful Summer; whatever you do

Easter Ham (provided by the management) for our annual dinner will be ready at 3pm on Sunday, April 5th This is a Potluck and there will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board for all who would like to attend.

Please sign up by April 1s.

We would like to invite all from Southfork on this special holiday to join your fellow neighbor and friends for a fantastic feast.

Bring a dish to pass that will serve at least 8 to 10 people and also bring your own table service of plate and utensils, Iced Tea will also be provided!.

The coffee will be perking so come and enjoy a cup and enjoy the day.

Dear Southfork Neighbors: I have been an officer of the Association since 2003 and I have loved working for the benefit off ALL Southfork residents? If you called or came to my door, I didn't ask you if you are a member or not! I worked for you.

Member of the Association or not!

My greatest pleasure has been planning events and improvements to show that this is where we would hopefully enjoy and be proud of for the rest of our lives! I have come to the conclusion that it is time to step down!

While not being President, I will still be working for you all, whether you are a member of the Association or not! Please feel free to call me! I will help if I can!

Very special thank you's to Carol and Bob Sanborn for their care and support during my very unexpected hospital trip and being just great neighbors! Thank you Lonnie Layne for the hours you have spent in the waiting rooms while I received treatments!

“Scavenger Hunt” And “Taco Tuesday” Sponsored by Southfork HOA,

April 21st

Thiis event is for HOA MEMBERS ONLY. The Scavenger Hunt will begin at 12:00 noon. You must present your HOA membership card to pick up your “Scavenger Hunt” sheet at the Clubhouse.

The scavenger hunt sheets will be given out only between 12:00 noon and 12:30pm.

Bring your completed sheets to the pavilion at 4:00pm. All correct sheets will be placed in a bin and prizes will be awarded to the first, five (5) teams or person whose sheet is drawn from the bin.

“TACO TUESDAY” will be at 4:00pm at the pavilion. There is no charge for the Taco Supper, but you must bring your HOA membership card. Please bring your beverage of choice and your lawn chair.

A sign up sheet for the Taco Supper will be at the clubhouse. The cut-off date is April 18th.

What a wonderful Community to reside in! Your kindness and thoughtfulness was much appreciated for all the gifts of food, lodging and many cards. I’m sure Bud is proud and we are blessed to have all of you as friends.

Library News

Come visit our library and it should be easier to find a book because we have alphabetically arranged all of the books by authors.

If anyone has any basic bookends that they are not using, we could use them and would appreciate them so much.

Feel free to drop off any DVD's to further the DVD program we started.

Scheduling of the Clubhouse

To schedule a function in the Clubhouse, you must reserve the hall with the Association President first. In most case’s the scheduled Association events takes priority over private party requests. Give at least 30 days to 2 months advance notice for any scheduling and don’t assume the date is available.

The same thing goes for the Pavillion and the Pool area.

Call the President, Tom Geyer for a form that must be filled out for all reservations. This is a must, for just in cases, of damage etc. and the host/ party holding the event will be held responsible and it must be noted if alcohol beverages will be used.

If any questions on this procedure, please contact Tom.

Wednesday, March 11th, the bingo patrons celebrated the 4th birthday of the bingo machine which is so great with the new verifier and the 2 TV’s that were purchased and so much more accurate.

There were 58 people in attendance and all you can eat pizza was available for everyone at intermission.

Before bingo started we had a visit from Brighthouse and they gave out 2 free gifts to all the people like they have done in the past. Everyone loved the gifts and one of the gifts was a free bingo dabber.

Everyone was in a festive mood and a lot of good prizes were given out to the enjoyment of everyone.

To all the new residents, we hold bingo here at the hall every Wednesday all year long and do not close during the summer months.

The doors are open at 5:15pm and we stop selling the bingo sheets at 6:15pm and bingo starts at 6:30pm.

To all the snowbirds……………….we look forward to having you back in the Fall!!

Thanks to all who helped in so many ways and a great big thank you to all who baked the delicious cookies. We have to also thank Pete & Dixie Logoyda for an outstanding job of keeping everyone on their toes and keeping up with all the scoring and for taking the pictures of the entire group.

We are looking forward to the nest year’s annual tournament already and this is a kick off for the spring and summer and kind of a last hurray before all the snowbirds leave for their summer break.

Last but not least, we have to give a special thank you to John and Sandi for sponsoring this event and for all their help!

St Patrick’s Day Bonfire

A great big thank you to all who helped in anyway for both Fun Day Dinner and St Patrick’s Day Bonfire.

Fun Day we had the BB Chicken and Pulled Pork with the Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato salad and Dessert. For the Bonfire we had Hotdogs, Chips, Baked Beans and Dessert.

A special thank you to Larry Ruffner who was the MC at both events and at the Bonfire did a music trivia to see who all could select the singer and music.

Great weather, great food, great participation and what more can you ask for in putting on a party!

Our activity committee is doing a bang up job already and look for more great events coming up in the near future.

Legend of the Lily The proudest and most beautiful flower in the Garden of Gethsemane was the white lily. The lily knew that it was special and would proudly lift its face toward anyone who entered the garden.

One night, a stranger came into the garden to pray. He looked so sad and wept so bitterly that the other flowers in the garden couldn’t help but hang their heads in sorrow too. not the lily……It continued to stand straight and proud, straining to catch the best rays of the moonlight on its beautiful white face.

But

The next day, the lily was shaken by sad news. The man who had prayed so sorrowfully in the garden had been sentenced to die by crucifixion. The lily was ashamed about how it had acted and turned its head downward in its humility.

Since that first Good Friday, the lily has never lifted its head in pride again. _____________________________________________________________________________________

The Pine tree Crosses

Pine trees know when it’s Easter……..

Begin watching in the tops of the trees about two weeks before Easter. Usually about the first week of April, depending on the weather and the spring growth as to when the little yellow shoots will begin to sprout and then branch off and form a cross.

When Easter Sunday arrives you should be able to see the little crosses on top of the pine trees.

As literally millions have seen the little crosses on top of the Pine Trees about 2 weeks before Easter…being another witness of the Amazing Grace to the human race is something to see.

Pass this on to your little grandchildren and teach them that the Pine Trees know when it’s Easter!

NEIGHBORLY UNSUNG HERO’S There have been many instances here in Southfork where there has been a sudden illness or death occurring. During crisis times such as this there are so many here in our community who do not hesitate and send out a helping hand to those who are in need.

On a weekly, daily, monthly basis many of these neighbors take care of those who are in desperate need with visits, taking food, calling them by phone and in so many other numerous ways.

We are very thankful for the many residents who take on being kind and considerate and these people never look for a “Thank you” and at this time I commend all who have and still are helping others.

Thank you all and that is what makes living here in Southfork so…….FANTASTIC!!!!!

___________________________________________________________________ TUESDAY MOVIE NIGHT The “Activity Committee” is seeking your opinion on an activity for all residents during the summer (June, July and August). Movie night would be on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm at the clubhouse.

We would show newly released movies on a large screen and serve popcorn and everyone would bring their own beverage.

Please let us know if you would be interested in attending this activity. You can put your ideas for the movies you would like in the Suggestion box or by signing the sheet at the clubhouse.
