Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Happy Valentines Day
February 2011 th
January 24 , Association Meeting Election of 2011 Board Listed below are the officers and directors that were elected and voted upon at the January annual membership meeting.
A Valentine Forever A Valentine is nothing like a chocolate or a rose. For in a week these shall be gone, but Valentines remain. If love were always sweet to tongue or fragrant to the nose,
The officers serve for two (2) year’s now (By-law change) unless they decide not to run again for next year and the directors also have a two (2) year term.
Each day would be like Valentine’s and we would go insane.
Officers
A Valentine just hangs around, waiting to be kissed,
President,
Long after special days have passed And everyday’s are here. So one is wise to choose one well, And chocolate’s to resist.

Committee Chair people For this new year of 2011 we are looking for interesting and new people to help chair our many committees that are formulated here at the association. I know many of you have great ideas and talk about what you would like amongst yourselves and then no one ever brings these ideas forward. One of the biggest committee needs is the activities committee and there could be many people involved in this and no one would ever have to do anything by themselves. This committee could have as many as 5 people or 20 or more people on it and with all of your ideas could make this committee the best thing that the association ever had. All of you on this committee could be the chair people, but as long as activities are planned for the year, there does not have to be any one person in charge, but all are in charge. Don’t be one of the many here in this community who sit back, complain, never attend any meetings and always negative when anyone tries to do anything for the betterment of all. Just show these people what the rest of you can come up with and you will have the support of all the rest. We are looking forward to hearing from you and come to this next Association meeting and be ready to raise your hand to help. _____________________________________________________________________________________
Double Pinochle Remember, every Tuesday evening at 6:30pm there is Double Pinochle being played at the clubhouse. Come and join the crew who play weekly. We can play with 4, 5 or 6 at a table. Come early and chat and find out more about our game, we would love to have you!!!!!!

Scheduling of the Clubhouse
To schedule a function in the Clubhouse, you must reserve the hall with the Association President first. In most case’s the scheduled Association events (such as bingo etc.) takes priority over private party requests. Give at least 30 days to 2 months advance notice for any scheduling and don’t assume the date is available. There is something always scheduled at any particular time over a 7 day week and a handwritten reservation request would be most appreciated before any function or activity is scheduled. Thank You!!!!

Secret Pal @ Women’s Club nd
To all who are involved with the Secret Pal in the Women’s Club, at our meeting on February 2 , this is the month that your secret pal is revealed. If you have a secret pal this would be the time that a nice card or a little token can be given and that is when you sign your name to the card and let the person know that you were their secret pal for the entire year. If any of you members are interested, we will be getting our new secret pal at this meeting and join the fun for a year of mystery to a person that you picked for this activity.
Out and About 1/11/11 The above date should have been a warning! Sixty two people signed on to go with us, fifty two showed up… These are very good numbers…however, nineteen people became totally lost!! We may never see them again. But, I have to tell you that in no way, was any of the confusion, “Ed’s” fault. At least that is what he told me… In the end, we all had a very good meal and lots of laughs. Least I forget the flags, they were a gift to you, from Marvin Rush. Thank You, Jim & Carolyn
Women’s Club On January 5rh, we had our monthly meeting at the Clubhouse. We had 30 ladies (The Cream of the Crop) who attended this meeting which the theme was (Pajama Party).and we had a lot of fun and laughter. The reports were read and approved. We discussed the upcoming “Chili Supper” and everything seems to be under control and right on schedule. We should have a fun evening, Auctioning off some very nice items, followed by the Chili Dinner itself and then sit back and enjoy our “Oldie Newlywed Game”. We will also be giving out prizes. After the meeting we had the parade of women in their nightwear and we had 3 judges who had a hard time selecting the winners. Here are the winners: The Most Original……………………Carol Albers The Best Costume…………………….Carol Reno The Most Sexy………………………Nancy Steding They each received a $10.00 Gift Card. At our next meeting, we will have the recognition of our Secret pals. So if interested in joining this group, we will be selecting new names for the upcoming year. This is so much fun and then finding out who your secret pal was for the year. This next meeting is nominations and elections for the Board positions. So anyone interested please feel free to be nominated and the present board will stay if there is no one else is nominated. Next month we will have the meeting as usual and after the meeting we will leave for a tour of Hospice on Clinton Avenue. We all want to see the “Bricks” that have been donated for our LOVED ONES who have left us for a better world. After the tour, we will all proceed to go to the Village Inn for lunch. See you on February 2nd at 9:30am Marielle, President _____________________________________________________________________________________

Our main fund raiser is our Fall Bazaar. Half of profits goes to the Charity fund. Items left over from the White Elephant table were donated to Hospice Thrift Store. Starting last year, we added our Chili Supper as a fund raiser and it will be held annually. This is all made possible by the support of the members of the Charity Committee and the Women of the Club. God Bless you for all of your help. With much appreciation. Best New Year’s Eve Party in Years!!!!!!! New Year’s Eve was quite an event with 84 tickets sold and the Southfork residents gathered at the clubhouse to ring out the old and bring in the new year. Dot Cady, acting as Master of Ceremonies, thanked everyone for coming and was proud to show a nicely decorated clubhouse that looked like a nightclub with all the round (decorated) tables. She also thanked the many people who helped put on this lavish event. She then introduced the headliner, entertainer for the evening, Rick Chapman, who in turn introduced his associate, Lido, who played the music to dance by. Rick Chapman took center stage to start his act which included many of his zany characters such as Mr. Haney, Jim Reeves, Willie Nelson, George Burns, Johnny Carson, Jack Benny and Ed Sullivan. During this first portion of the show he brought out a cast of Southfork characters including a punchy boxer (Rocky), Tiny Tim who passed out tulips to some of the lucky ladies, Southfork Line Dancers and then a Michael Jackson trio who demonstrated their dancing to the tune of “Beat It.” Then Lido once again took to the piano to play a special song to Honor Faye & Mike Gallagher for their New Years day wedding anniversary. He then played Happy Birthday to Helen Stowe and Carolyn Dyer celebrating their birthdays and played more music. Then, intermission when a delicious array of food was served buffet style with Shrimp, Meatballs, Various meats and rolls, relish trays, cheese and crackers etc and a table that most restaurants would not even have, all the way to the desserts and all of this was prepared by Sherrie Glatfelter, Helen Stowe, Carol Albers and Kathy McPherson. Great Job!!!! After intermission, Rick took center stage and introduced the guest of the night, Santa Claus himself who was rather tired after a long Christmas Eve and he was serenaded by Marilyn Monroe all dressed in white. Santa passed out a few gifts to some special people and you had to be here to appreciate the gifts they received. Buddy Holly then showed up looking rather bedraggled after being involved in yet another plane crash at the Zephyrhills Aerodrome. Of course his lady, Peggy Sue made a cameo appearance looking rather rough in her own right (severe 5 o’clock shadow.) A comical hillbilly couple got into a heated family argument right in front of the entire audience and Clementine chased him right out of the room. A great night of laughter by all!! The last thing was the dance contest and of course we had the judges, Simon, Paula and Randy and the contestants danced to the delight of the audience and of course the scrutiny from the judges and there was a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. Because of the judges points, the winners were then selected by the “applause-o-meter” not to show any partiality…………….Midnight came and the partiers greeted the New Year with their rendition of Auld Lang Syne followed by many handshakes, hugs and kisses all around. It was a great way to see the New Year in!
3rd Annual Hand and Foot Tournament The annual Hand and Foot tournament was held on Saturday, January 22ndh at the clubhouse and was a great success. were thirty six (36) entrants and the tournament started at 11am and ended at 2:30pm.
There
Everyone brought a type of finger food and we had 3 tables full of delicious items including desserts and coffee. In between and during the games everyone munched on goodies and it was like a gourmet special displayed with a great party atmosphere. There was a lot of quiet at first when everyone was seated and then you could hear the giggles and laughter start and when everyone had really relaxed the fun really began. Its all in the cards and if you have them okay and if not………well we seen what happened and who the winners were and there were a few with some penalties on their score sheets. I want to thank Marielle Quain and Irene Schreier for helping and totaling the games to see who the winners were. They took care of entering the people as they came in and making sure everything was okay. They verified and re-verified each game sheet to see whom the winning place teams would be. Again, thank you both very much! We had an entry fee of $5.00 person. All of the entry fees collected were paid back to the top winning three (3) teams. A total of $180.00 was collected and shared between three teams (six players.) The first place winner of $50.00 each went to Jo Bellows and Betty LaForest. The 2nd place team winner of $25.00 each went to Carol Albers and Carol Whitbeck. The 3rd place team winners of $15.00 each went to Carol Sanborn and Audrey Holmes. It was a huge success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. So all in all, thanks to everyone who entered the tournament, brought food or helped in any way. A successful event is only made when you have good participation. Submitted by, Phyllis Grossi ____________________________________________________________________________________________
Men’s Golf The Southfork Men’s Golf group meets every Wednesday morning at the Triple S Golf Ranch on Route 301 North. Our first TEE time is at 7am. At approximately 6:50am we loosely organize into foursomes and begin the weekly sunrise ritual of “Southfork Pasture Pool.” Most of us cannot qualify to join the illustrious “Bogey Breakers Club of Central Florida.” No one is allowed to record anything higher than a double par on the scorecard, so come one-come all for a delightful morning with your friends and neighbors. There are a few serious golfers, but they are in the minority and usually hang out together (it’s sometimes fun to get in their foursome and drag them down to your level.) The last group is usually off the course by 11am, so you can be home in time to spend a few moments with your “golf widow” before she heads out for the afternoon adventure with the Southfork Women’s Golf group. Robert Downs is senior advisor. Hee ah, join us at the ranch!
wish the old paths were before us instead of behind us.
I liked the old paths, when Moms were at home. Dads were at work. Brothers went into the army. And sisters got married BEFORE having children! Crime did not pay; Hard work did; And people knew the difference. Moms could cook; Dads would work; Children would behave. Husbands were loving; Wives were supportive; And children were polite. Women wore the jewelry; And Men wore the pants. Women looked like ladies; Men looked like gentlemen; And children looked decent. People loved the truth, And hated a lie. They came to church to get IN, Not to get OUT! Hymns sounded Godly; Sermons sounded helpful; Rejoicing sounded normal; And crying sounded sincere. Cursing was wicked; Drugs were for illness. The flag was honored; America was beautiful; And God was welcome! We read the Bible in public; Prayed in school; And preached from house to house. To be called an American was worth dying for; To be called an American was worth living for; To be called a traitor was a shame!
I still like the old paths the best!

BOCCI BALL Does anyone here in the community know anything about playing Bocci? equipment needed to play Bocci?
Does anyone here have the
There are a few people who have inquired and would like to play this game. You don’t necessarily need a Bocci Court but it can be played in the same area as the Horse Shoe game down at the retention area. If anyone is interested in starting this game just let me know and I will place something in the newsletter. We need a coordinator, equipment etc. This is a game similar to bowling and is really lawn bowling but with a much smaller ball, almost the size of a softball. Think about it and maybe this is another type game to get out some new people and with this some moderate exercise in throwing the ball. Thanks, Phyllis Grossi
