More Than a Day As Thanksgiving Day rolls around, It brings up some facts, quite profound.

We may think that we’re poor, Feel like bums, insecure, But in truth, our riches astound.

We have friends and family we love; We have guidance from heaven above.

We have so much more Than they sell in a store, We’re wealthy, when push comes to shove.

So add up your blessings, I say; Make Thanksgiving last more than a day.

Enjoy what you’ve got; Realize it’s a lot, And you’ll make all your cares go away.

Remember that it is your civic duty to go out and vote.

As American citizens, and with all of the freedom of speech, you have a voice to elect the candidate of your choice. Voting is November 2nd and for the people here in Southfork the voting poll is located at Country Aire Estates, 38130 McDonald St which is located behind the Raceway gas station on RT 301.

There is a price we pay for freedom For it is not truly free But rather paid for by the contributions of veterans To buy our Liberty As their blood drains from their body and runs like a river through the grass I don’t think we all realize the importance veterans play As they voluntarily serve America each and every day We should honor the veterans for they act like a shield Protecting us from danger, keeping America healed.

So if you would take a second to commemorate You will instantly see We owe veterans our gratitude For they are the reason we are free.

Southfork Phone Directory The deadline for any changes, additions or deletions in our phone directory, is by November 25th. Anything submitted after that date will not get into the new directory which comes out in late February 2011 or early March 2011.

Domino’s The players meet Thursdays at 1pm at the clubhouse. This is a group of fun loving and team oriented people and whom are always eager to teach new players. This group has an average of 10 people or more on a weekly basis and of course more show when all the snowbirds are back.

The Dominoes group is all about making friends, sharpening your wits and enjoying life. It is a very relaxing game with a lot of humor involved which makes everyone come back, week after week.

So come join the sociable folks who are a little “dotty.” Remember, winning isn’t the main goal - laughter is!

Nominating Committee The Southfork Mobile Homeowners Association nominating committee is now working to get a slate of potential candidates to fill the positions of Secretary, and 3 Directors for the upcoming election at our January 2011 Annual meeting.

from the Association President Dear Friends and Neighbors, Welcome back Snowbirds!!!!!!! And the changes of seasons!!!!! It is great to be opening the windows for the wonderful fresh air.

Our by-laws outline specific goals of the Association. Our Board members have been meeting, listening and attempting to answer your concerns. Like you, we hold no authority to force the changes that we are requested to make. We need your help so write to President, Scott Heiler with your concerns, the address is on your letter announcing the increases. We all need to voice our concerns. It hurts when we are critized for not doing enough!!!

November is nomination month for directors for 2011. We need 3 new directors and a secretary. This is your opportunity to take an active role in our community.

The Association responsibility is to promote social and recreational entertainment. There are those few people who do the work, work, work! And frankly, they get “burned out”!!!! We need your help.

Where??? Jim Morvatz, has accepted many tasks in the past and is giving up chairing Wednesday’s Hotdog/Hamburg by the pool………There is a list of willing hands to work but we need a chairperson. Please help, we will miss it if no one steps forward.

On November 11th, a wonderful “character”, Homer Noodleman, who entertained a few years ago here in SF, will again perform for us. The tickets are on sale at $5.00, for an evening filled with laughter. Shirley Rouer, Dot Cady and others will be selling tickets. Please plan to be there.

Women’s Club On October 6th, 41 members met in the clubhouse that was nicely decorated with Halloween colors, hosted

by Frieda Ballerstein, Doris Grandy and Anita Warschkow.

All the Board reports were read and approved.

Shirley Rouer introduced our speaker, Becky Jones who works for Spay Pasco and she talked about Feral Cats. 9000 cats were euthanized last year alone. She brought a cat to show us how they clip the top of their ear when they are being spayed and neutered (stray cats) and it was very interesting. The women’s club gave a donation of $100.00 for this worthy cause.

Mary Bolin talked about the bazaar coming up November 20th…..and all the ladies are getting ready for it.

We hope that it will be a success like the previous years because this is the backbone of our organization.

On January 12th, @ 8:30am, Carol Albers will be doing a nice project called “Little Dresses” for Africa.

See the board in the Clubhouse for more details.

In January, the tickets will go on sale for our Chili Supper followed by a secret auction and then followed by our “Oldie Newlywed Game.” The participants will receive nice prizes.

Please note, our December meeting is being changed to Wednesday, December 8th. We will meet at 9:30am for a short meeting and gift exchange. Remember, secret pals, do not put your name on the gift you are bringing and then we will all go out to lunch to help put us in the Christmas spirit.

The next meeting on November 3rd will be hosted by Shirley Tiratto, Joann Bowman, Dee Dee Sutherland and Billie Moore. It should be very interesting with a beautician who may be doing some facials etc.

The meeting was closed followed with Pastry’s and Cider. See you on November 3rd.

Southfork Men’s Club October 7th, 2010 Fifteen members attended the monthly meeting…………………

Chairman, Don Duarte reported that the Women’s Club has asked the Men’s Club to help with their annual food Donation to 24 needy Dade City families. The women asked the men to provide 24 cloth shopping bags, 24 loaves of bread and 24 1 pound containers of either butter or margarine. Jim Morvatz said that he had 18 bags and would get them to Mary Bolin.

Don reported that the Flag that he had Southfork residents sign a few months ago is now in Afghanistan and is flying over a U.S. Military base there.

A shuffleboard tournament for Men’s Club members only is being formed and a date will be announced very soon. There will be a small entry fee and the monies raised will help fund the event and prizes.

A discussion was held on the Men’s Club involvement in the Southfork Annual Shuffleboard tournament.

The discussion concerned sponsors, prizes etc. and plans will be further finalized at the November meeting.

A discussion was held concerning selling ads in the Southfork Newsletter. Jim Morvatz reported that he had a discussion with Scott Heiler and he is going to allow the Southfork Newsletter to have one page of business card sized ads. The monies from this will help sponsor events to be held.

A discussion was also held to discuss on how to best solicit donations from local vendors and businesses to be sold at auction at the Women’s Club Annual Chili dinner to benefit the charitable work done by the Women’s Club.

Another discussion concerned having a Beard Growing contest for Southfork Men after the first of the year.

Marvin Rush and Jim Morvatz agreed to work on the rules etc. for that project.

Don also explained that the Women’s Club has asked the Men’s Club to act as servers at the Chili Dinner.

For the Men’s Club involvement in that project the Women’s Club has agreed to donate 25% of the profits back to the Men’s Club and they would also get 25% and the other 50% goes to the Charity projects.

Don asked that the members contact other men who belong to the club to come to next month’s meeting and bring any man who might be interested in joining our club.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

Recipe of the Month Pumpkin Mousse 1 ½ cups cold fat-free milk 1 package (1oz) sugar free instant butterscotch pudding mix ½ cup canned pumpkin ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon ¼ teaspoon ground ginger ¼ teaspoon ground allspice 1 cup fat-free whipped topping, divided Directions: 1. In a large bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.

2. Combine the pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and allspice.

3. Fold into pudding mix 4. Fold in ½ cup whipped topping 5. Transfer to individual serving dishes; refrigerate until serving.

6. Garnish with remaining whipped topping.

Out and About “SINGING CHRISTMAS TREES” First Baptist Church/Orlando presents a holiday pageant you will not forget!

Carolyn and I returned to Southfork the evening of 10/06. Hosting a small cook-out, 10/09, we were discussing a December Out & About.

The annual event was mentioned and was told it sells out by mid-to-late October.

Mid-day, Monday, 10/11/2010, I phoned to inquire about tickets.

They were still available, so I purchased twenty (20)!!!

We prepared a flyer for the Clubhouse bulletin board.

Mean while, word of mouth advertising kicked in and before it was posted, it sold out!!

So all twenty (20) tickets are sold.

This doesn’t prevent anyone from phoning for more tickets.

Pat and I have gone to many Italian restaurants and this one is a sleeper and not to many know about it.

Every once in a while, I hear about a restaurant in our area that we just have to try and this one we visited the first week they were opened last year and I did not think to much about it. Well, a year later we thought we would give it another try and it turns out to have really good food and I feel especially sad about all the time “we could have spent there.”

I have to admit that opinions about Italian restaurants are very subjective and everyone has favorites that they like best. I feel you must try this place and their sauce is very good and this is of course the main criteria for a successful and enduring Italian restaurant. Prices are very reasonable (Spaghetti/Marinara sauce, $7.25 to Veal Parmigiano, $14.50.) Dinners are served with salad, bread.

Speaking of “bread”, a tease of “garlic knot rolls” are brought to your table even though garlic bread is served with your meal. The menu is traditional Italian with offerings of the usual “best loved” entrees and pastas, as well as Stromboli, Calzones, Hot or Cold subs and of course PIZZA. You may have already tried this restaurant. If so, I hope you enjoyed it and if you haven’t, I suggest you do. _____________________________________________________________________________________

First Meeting of the Fall Season On Monday. November 22nd, the first association meeting of the fall season will be held at 9am.

At this time a slate of nominees, prepared by the nomination committee will be presented and nominations for Directors (3 needed), and a Secretary will be opened to all members of the association at this meeting. Come and join us to hear what is happening!

I urge you to attend so that you too, can take part in nominating your choice of candidates .

Anyone who chooses to run or is nominated after the November Membership meeting can only then, run as a write in candidate in January. This is done in the interest of running an orderly and smooth event.

“Laura’s Story” By, Willie Stoever I’m just sitting here now, in the church’s front pew. The organist has been playing some music we knew.

The pastor is standing, his head bowed low, praying for words that will calm our souls.

He spoke of a young girl, whose life had been short and of those left behind, She will always remain a part of their hearts.

Hi Grandma!!! It’s me, Laura. Can I come and sleep over, for mom has to work so early tomorrow.

We could bake those great cookies, the one’s you like best and I’ll be sure to clean up the mess.

Do you think we could sleep in Gramp’s big waterbed? I’ll promise not to bounce, cause I’ll hit my head.

I know that tomorrow is your church day, I’ll wear my best dress and fold my hands and remember to pray.

I’ll remind you to bring your big ole purse, so maybe we could go out for breakfast first.

Hi Gram, Guess what? We bought our first house. Do you think I could borrow your ole blue couch?

I think you will like it, its got lost of room, with a yard for planting and flowers to bloom.

Hey Grama, I just had to call, I met this great guy and boy “He’s got it all.” You always said, “I’ll know when its him, for he make’s the sunshine when my day’s are grim” and he can make cookies that you like best. Guess what Gram? “He help’s clean up the mess.”

Hi Gram, Are you coming home soon? There are dates to set and things to do. We have to look for a gown to buy, for Mom say’s, I’ll make a beautiful bride. It will be a great day, when I walk down that isle, for he will be standing there and I’ll see mom smile.

Oh Gram, I went to see the doctor today, he told me some things, the words won’t go away. I guess you won’t have to come early this year. There’s not much you can do or so I hear.

But Gram, thank you for being there and our family too. To help us celebrate our first year through. We laughed and cried for the times, good and bad. It was a night full of love, for the times we all shared.

Micha and Mom will need help you know, so please be there for them for I do love them so!

I always think of time’s I liked best, when we went to church and I wore my best dress.

So when I get to where I’m suppose to go, I hear God has a big kitchen or so I’ve been told. So maybe I’ll ask him, what cookies he likes best. You know what Gram? He just might help me clean up the mess.

In loving memory of my wonderful granddaughter, Laura Frances Bond, who has now been laid to rest and I’d like to believe, that who knows, maybe God will help her clean up the mess.

Tips for Handling Telemarketers 1. Three little words that work:

“HOLD ON PLEASE…”

Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company’s “beep-beep-beep” tone, you know it’s time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task.

2. Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?

This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers a phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a “real” sales person to call back and get someone at home.

What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times or more as quickly as possible before hanging up. This confuses the machine that dialed the call, and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer!!!

3. Junk Mail Help When you get “ads” enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these “ads” with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. nd

When you get those “pre-approved” letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2 mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 42 cents postage, “if” and when they receive them back.

It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail that did not come with a postage-paid, and put it in these cool little postage-paid return envelopes and the company will have to pay more then when they sent it out! You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just keep them guessing! It still cost them the postage. We need to overwhelm these companies and let them know what it’s like to gets lots of junk mail and best of all they’re paying for it….Twice!

Let’s help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that email is cutting into their business profits, and that’s why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea??

If enough people follow these tips, it will work…I have been doing this for years!
