A Sunny Christmas

Christmas Past Each Christmas I remember The ones of long ago; I see our mantelpiece adorned With stockings in a row.

Each Christmas finds me dreaming Of days that used to be, When we hid presents here and there, For all the family.

Each Christmas I remember The fragrance in the air Of roasting turkey and mince pies And cookies everywhere.

Every year at Christmas time there’s not a sign of snow.

Instead we spend our yuletide days in the sun's warm cheery glow.

We have the best of Christmas things, The lights, the gifts, the bells, (And "snowbirds" who arrive en masse To fill our beach hotels and homes.)

The glorious weather fits right in With our happy Christmas mood, And we can also walk and run Without having to be snow shoe’d.

So don't feel bad for your (Dade City) friends who have no snow or ice.

We think our sunny Christmas here is a holiday paradise!

Each Christmas finds me longing For Christmases now past, And I am back in childhood As long as memories last. ____________________________________________

Love those Church Ladies They’re Back! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. Message from Scott Heiler I would like to thank the Southfork Board of Directors for a pleasant and productive meeting on all your behalves.

They had quite a list to address but I feel confident that working together we can satisfy most concerns and move forward. One of the biggest issues is the concern of some requested work item’s not getting completed. We have addressed this by initiating a maintenance repair request form in triplicate, that you the resident will receive a copy of, at the time it is filled out. Upon completion of the request you will be asked to sign the repair request that the maintenance man has to return to the office.

As always your questions and concerns are very important to us and help us keep South fork a top notch community that people want to live in! Your efforts on keeping your homes beautiful shows and “thank you to all.”

Candy Cane White Fudge 12 oz white chocolate, coarsely chopped 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk Âź cup coarsely chopped peppermint candies Directions: Butter an 8-inch square baking pan, line bottom and sides with foil allowing foil to extend over sides of pan about 1 inch. Butter foil.

Over medium-high heat in top of double-boiler or a heatproof bowl set over pot of hot water, combine white chocolate and condensed milk. Cook, stirring frequently, until melted amd smooth, approx 5 min..

Pour mixture into pan, sprinkle candy over top. Using a butter knife, lightly swirl candy into chocolate mixture mixture.

Refrigerate until firm, about 6 hours or overnight. Cut into 1inch squares or rectangles. Store in refrigerator when not serving. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Short cut, cheaters Stuffed Green Peppers with out stuffing the peppers.

1 lb ground meat 2 green peppers (cut and sliced in strips) 1 large jar of Prego spaghetti or your favorite sauce 1 bag instant rice in a bag Seasonings of your choice In a pot, brown meat and peppers together. Then to this mixture add the spaghetti sauce and continue cooking and then lower to simmer. In the mean time, cook the rice in the microwave. When rice is done add to the tomato mixture and continue on simmer until done to your liking. All together at least 45 min to an hour.

from the Association President Dear Friends and Neighbors, By now, you have probably heard that I have agreed to run for President again. It is because I have the time to devote to what I believe to be a very important part of our “Golden Years” to be happy, active and involved.

This year our Board has learned that the Association has an important role in every resident’s investment in our homes and have a voice in management decisions. The Board spent many hours at many meetings preparing for our Annual meeting with the Park Manager and the Park Owner. Thanks to 77 people who returned the Association Survey, and our list of 24 concerns, 10 pages of type written comments, pictures and e-mails the Board received this summer and fall, provided the documentation that the concerns were valid and needed attention. The entire Board met with Norm and Scott for over two hours. While we were not pleased with all of the answers, we feel that much progress has been made and we will be continuing to work with the management for better communication. Please read the letter from Scott Heiler on Page 3.

When you have a request for information or work to be done, please go to the office and fill out the maintenance request form. A copy will be given to you and Maintenance and a copy will be sent to Scott Heiler. Unsigned letters will be tossed into the waste basket because rumors cause more harm then good! The Board members will be happy to receive signed, written questions and comments if you are unhappy with your answers from management.

We are sad that Aggie Mitchell has left the park and we wish her well. We are also sad that Tony Trubiano will not be serving as Vice President, but happy that he will continue to chair the Security Patrol which is so important. The good news is that Phyllis Grossi, Jim Morvatz, Larry Ruffner, Tom Geyer, Bob Lynch and Marti Witham agreed to serve another year on the Board.

December Activities We need activity people!!!! It has been suggested, (and we will be grateful,) if people who enjoy the activities will volunteer…… I have been told “If you need help, just ask” and a few gracious people have actually called me to see if I need help. I am grateful to them! Please consider volunteering for just one or two activities, not all of them and we will be so very happy to find the right spot for you.

December activities are: Dec 5th, Pancake Breakfast - 8am (Come and enjoy those great pancakes the guys are waiting to serve you.)

Dec 12th, Women’s Club Annual Bazaar - 8am to 1pm. (Come early, help them to raise funds for their charity work before you go off to enjoy the rest of the day!)

Dec 12th, The Out and About group will be traveling to Ellerton to enjoy the pizza and pipes concert leaving at 10:45am Dec 19 (20th if it rains) Golf Cart parade - 5:30pm Prizes and refreshments at the clubhouse following.

Dec 25, Christmas dinner at 4pm. Please sign up by the 18th.

Dec 31st, New Year’s Eve. We have an entertainer (WE NEED A GROUP OF PARTY PLANNERS.)

From orm’s desk I have had complaints about people parking in a neighbor’s driveway without consent. Please do not do this as it is considered trespassing and could cause you trouble. If you need temporary parking you may park on the street but not overnight. Long term parking is available to you in the RV storage area.

I need to stress also the fact that any and all vehicles stored in the RV area must have current tags and a copy of the insurance and registration on file in the office or they may be towed away.

Please, if you cut your tree trimmings in approximately 3’ lengths and tie them in bundles the trash collection company is compelled to pick them up with no charge to you. If they refuse please call me or come in. I have talked to the route supervisor and he has assured me that they can not refuse.

Thank you for understanding and using our new AVOID VERBAL ORDER system for maintenance.

Hanukkah Begins at Sun down Dec 12th At last! At last! Hanukkah is here! The whole house is bursting with holiday cheer.

Pancakes are sizzling as hard as they can, Browning delectably crisp in the pan.

The dreidels can scarcely wait to be spun; Presents are hidden for Hanukkah fun.

And there, on the table, polished and bright, the shining menorah gleams through the night.

Like the oil lamp in ancient history, that burned on and on miraculously!

And each flaming candle proclaims the great story of the Maccabean heroes, their deeds and their glory.

Women’s Club

On November 4th, 54 ladies had their monthly meeting. The clubhouse was very nicely decorated by Tanya Hahn. The hostesses were Paula Campbell, Elizabeth Demers and Bobbie Gillis who prepared the delicious food.

The committee’s reports were read and approved. We had a speaker from Toys for Tots, Mr Bob Lorring who gave an excellent speech and explained the great need we have in Pasco County for Clothing, Toothbrushes, Underwear and Diapers. A box will be in the Clubhouse with a list of what we need in it and we count on your generosity to fill this box to the top. The Women’s club on top of this is buying $300.00 worth of sneakers. We would prefer not to have any toys in this box. If you have some toys that you want to give away, please give them to your postal delivery person on the designated day.

On December 12th we will have our annual Bazaar. The ladies have worked very hard to get ready for this event. We will also have a Bake Sale and we need you to bake for this and we will also have all kinds of Baskets to be raffled. We will again have a White Elephant table with slightly used items. Please bring these items on Friday night the 11th because we have no room to store these items. On the day of the bazaar, at 11am we will have Hot Dogs and Hamburgers by the pool. We will also have coffee and cookies.

Please come and support our club because 50% of what we make goes to Charity.

On December 2nd we will have our meeting as usual at 9:30am followed by a gift exchange of $10.00 each.

There will be two (2) piles of gifts-----one for the Secret Pal, make sure do not put your name on it but only to whom it goes to because this is a secret and in February you will find out who is your Secret Pal. For the other group who does not have a Secret Pal, if you want a gift you bring one but you indicate from whom it comes from so you get a gift in return. After the gift exchange, we will be going for lunch at the Golden Corral at 11am. As far as our meeting is concerned on December 2nd, we always ask you to bring 2 cans of food for the poor, but at this meeting you don’t have to, but if you do we will take this food to Day Star.

On January 6th we will have a Pajama Party with prizes. We would like the Ladies to bring some breakfast food for this party.

So Ladies, as you can see there is never a dull moment in the Women’s Club, so I will see you on December 2nd at 9:30am.

Merry Christmas to all!

Meet me at the Pool on Wednesday Afternoon The Wednesday night “Hotdogs and Hamburgers by the Pool” has started for the 2009/2010 season.

The season kick-off on November 4th with a special night of free food for Association members and a very minimal charge for non-members was a huge success with over 135 residents in attendance. The second night was held on November 11th with blustery weather thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Ida however many hardy souls braved the elements to come out to eat. Some ate in the clubhouse to avoid the intermittent sprinkles but there was still a good turnout.

This year’s activities will follow the same routine as last year with the event starting each Wednesday evening, weather permitting, at 4:30 until 6pm. A few special event evenings will also be planned since there was so much interest shown at last year’s special entertainment nights.

Jim Morvatz also wants the residents to know that he and his crew diligently search different suppliers to bring you the BEST QUALITY menu items at the LOWEST PRICES, however our 2010 season menu will reflect a VERY MODEST price increase so that we can continue to break even, or make a slight profit so that we can continue to offer this activity to the residents of Southfork.

Jim also stated that 28 neighbors have signed up to members of the teams that put on this activity each week. More volunteers are always welcome, so if you would like to volunteer to be part of this fun activity, please contact him at 843-222-2713 or 352-437-4782.

Christmas Potluck Dinner Just a reminder to all to take notice of the calendar on the last page of your newsletter for each month and the dates of all special events.

PLEASE, take note there will be no potluck on the 3rd Thursday of December but the following week is the Christmas potluck dinner on Friday, December 25th. Check the bulletin board for all sign up sheets .

Library Computers If you haven’t visited the library lately to use the computers because they were so old and outdated, you can now see that new computers have been installed and ready to use. On November 4th, the new ones were installed and ready to go with Internet access. Thanks to Jeff Heiler who came to install and help everyone out. ________________________________________________________________________

We have a nice library in our clubhouse full of hard cover and paperback books for your use.

Most of these books have been donated, however we have a problem in that our shelf space is limited. Therefore, we ask that you donate only books with a copyright date of 2003 and newer.

Hundreds of older books have been taken to assisted living or nursing homes because we have no room for them.

Your assistance with this matter will be appreciated!

Unforgetable

I have a list of folks I know all written in a book and every year at Christmas time I go and take a look, and that is when I realize that these names are a part, not of the book they’re in, but of my heart.

For each name stands for someone whose path touched mine and left such a print of friendship that I want to touch again. And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim, I really feel I am composed of each remembered name.

And while you may not be aware of any special link, just meeting you has shaped my life more than you can think, for once you’ve met somebody, that years cannot erase, the memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face.

So never think of Christmas cards as just a mere routine, of names upon a Christmas list-forgotten in between. For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you, it’s because you’re on that list of folks I am indebted to.

For one is but a total of the many folks they’ve met and you happen to be one of those I prefer NOT to forget, and whether I have known you for many years or few, in some way you have had a part in shaping things I do.

And every year when Christmas comes I realize anew, THE BIGGEST GIFT life can give is meeting folks like you. And may the spirit of Christmas that forever and ever endures, leave it’s richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours. _____Author unknown

Bunco ight Well we have had two (2) successful games of Bunco both in October and November. In both months we had a total of 20 people playing each time and it seems like everyone is enjoying the game. So by popular request in January we will start having Bunco twice a month and they will be held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday’s at 6:30pm. Look for the dates on the newsletter calendar.

Please, use the sign up sheets monthly on the bulletin board for this game so that we know how many tables to prepare for. We must have tables of 4 and there is much preparation to get set up for each of these evenings. If anyone would like to help out, we sure would appreciate it. Help is needed mostly at the end of the game night in verification and addition of the sheets to declare the winners.

The December Bunco Night will be on December 20th at 6:30pm. Everyone is invited to come share the fun and it only costs $3.00 per person and all the money collected goes back out to the winners at the end of the evening. Women’s Hand and Foot Tournament The Hand and Foot Women who play on Monday evening’s and also on Thursday mornings, have decided to hold a 2nd “Hand and Foot” Tournament to be held January 23, 2010 which is a Saturday, and starting time will be at 11AM. This event will be played in the main hall of the clubhouse.

There will be an entry fee of ($5.00 per person.) All the monies received for this event will be paid out to the top 2 high scoring teams. We will have tables of 4 people for each game and a limit of 2 games per each team. Winners of each table proceed to the next table to complete a set of 2 games. (Please, we ask only the people who know how to play the game to sign up because of the rules for the day with no talking across the table to help.)

Sign up sheet will be posted by December 1st and it will be , first come, first served to complete tables of 4. Deadline will be January 14, 2009 and all entry fee’s must be paid by the deadline.

Partners will draw names before the start time of the tournament on the same day.

Donations of finger food/snacks/refreshments will be asked for by the entrants.

Christmas Gift Suggestions To your enemy -forgiveness, To an opponent -tolerance, To a friend -your heart, To a customer -service, To all - charity, To every child -a good example, To yourself - respect.

SOUTHFORK SALUTES VOLUNTEERS On Thursday, November 19th over 80 residents attended the first annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration Night festivities held at the Southfork Clubhouse.

The Board of Directors and Officers of the Southfork Mobile Homeowners Association contracted with local nationally acclaimed impressionist Rick Chapman to present a lively evening of entertainment using Chapmans abilities to imitate over 100 entertainers as George Burns, Johnny Carson, Dean Martin, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Sylvester Stallone and Mr. Haney from Green Acres.

Before the show Chapman recruited some Southfork residents to assist him in the show. Those entertainers (?) included a punchy boxer (Pat Grossi), tuxedo-ed Buddy Holly, (Jim Peltier), his "buxom" love Peggy Sue (Pete Logoyda), a rather confused Elvis Presley and two security personnel Les Myers, Dixie Logoyda, and Sue Peltier). Cousin Clem (Marvin Dye) from Hee Haw and an obviously inebriated Ed McMann (Larry Ruffiier) rounded out the cast of characters. Also Dot Cady and an assistant supported the show with a variety of "sound effects" which had to be used at certain times during the performance.

After a whole hour of preshow rehearsal this cast of questionable "characters" managed to flub most of their lines adding to the delight of the audience which spent most of the evening laughing at their hilarious antics which were presented under the tutelage of Chapman's impressions of Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson and Mr. Haney.

Intermission featured refreshments of coffee, cake and ice cream followed by a passionate speech from President Cady once again thanking all of the Southfork volunteers who participate in the security patrol, monthly potluck dinners, weekly cookouts, bingo committee, out and about trip events, organized events, and the many games, shuffleboard tournaments, sign maintenance persons and the many other Southfork activities. Ms. Cady reiterated the fact that without the tireless efforts of the volunteers those events could not be held . At the end of the evening the Board Of Directors presented each person in attendance with a certificate to thank them for their volunteerism.

n WELL, the Mystery Luncheon is history, a lot of laughs and maybe, some confused drivers. I know one driver was upset, because he had three Map Readers, and only two bullets!!!

Leave the Interstate, cross under the highway and turn left on U.S.301. Our destination is on our left(west)side. It should take about an hour in travel time.

The restaurant opens at noon, and at 12:30, Dwight Thomas silently,(yea right), rises out of the pit If you have not experienced a MIGHTY WURLITZER THEATER, it will rattle your bones in a joyous manor. Do not miss it.

Once you have heard Dwight's version of "THE CHATTANOOGA CHOO CHOO", you will never forget it, or standing with an unknown number of people Singing Kate Smith's "GOD BLESS AMERICA" awesome...
