Southfork News “FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS” Happy Labor Day
September 2009
It feels like Fall ……….Somewhere Fall will be here soon, although here in Florida it’s hard to tell. You’re going to have to wait until about the third week of October before the daily high temperatures drop to the low 80s. The folks at the Florida climate center say Fall happens when the daily low temperatures drop below 60 degrees and stay there. In the Tampa Bay area that doesn’t usually Happen until you’re eyeing turkey for Thanksgiving.
Time to Celebrate! To honor workers far and near Our nation passed a bill To grant all men a day of rest A Sabbath—if you will!
You know its fall in Florida when-----•
Much praise is due our labor force For each achievement made Who’ve furthered the economy Our country’s growth and trade.
• •
It’s also a three day weekend’n The last chance to bask in the warm sunshine, Enjoy the poolside and just have a great time With friends and family with bbqs, parades and picnics. Chill out this Labor Day with friends, family, Associates and loved ones and wish’em a Fun-tas-tic Labor Day weekend!

You put away your light green bathing suit in favor of your brown one. You can roll down the windows in your car and not run the risk of melting You can plant things without them withering immediately The stores put out the winter holiday decorations. Everywhere you turn there is some sort of festival celebrating art, food, wine, crafts, history, cars, gourds etc. Although we don’t get the rainbow of falling leaves that other states do, we do see a lot of acorns and random other seedlings. Hey, that’s less raking for us.

Cute Golf Story Four old men went into the pro shop after playing 18 holes of golf. The pro asked, “Did you guys have a good game today?” The first old guy said, “yes, I had three riders today.” The second old guy said, “I had the most riders ever, I had five.” The third old guy said, “I had 7 riders, the same as last time.” The last old man said, “I beat my old record, I had 12 riders today.” After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had heard the old guys talking about their game went to the pro and said, “I have been playing golf for many, many years and thought I knew all the terminology of the game, but what is a rider?” The pro said, “A rider is when you hit the ball far enough, to be able to get in the golf cart and ride to it.”

A polish immigrant went to the DMV to apply for a driver’s license. First , of course, he had to take an eye sight test. The optician showed him a card with the letters “C Z W I X O S T A C Z” “Can you read this?” the optician asked. “Read it?” the Polish guy replied, “I know the guy.”

Grandparents Day Many people may not know that this day exists in September. Some may choose to ignore it. They may think “must we have a day for every person in the universe, when does all this day naming end?” Sadly, those people probably did not have an opportunity to develop a relationship with their grandparents. They don’t understand the gifts that a grandparent can give. Grandparents can provide a sense of continuity and roots to their grandchildren. They can provide a sense that life matters, and the ability to see life within a larger context of time exists. To be a grandparent is not an easy job. Your grandchildren are counting on you to love them unconditionally to a degree that their parents may not be able to.. They’re counting on you to listen, really listen, without judging right or wrong. It is often assumed that you have no life of your own, and that you only exist to be called on when you are needed. This of course is not true. At the same time do not miss this opportunity that you have been given, a chance for a relationship with the next generation. To all, Happy Grandparents Day!!!!

Tips for taking care of sunburn
To ease a mild sunburn, pat skin with cider vinegar, witch hazel or wet tea bags
Bathe a sunburned face in buttermilk. It’s great for the complexion , too.
Add about a cup of baking soda to a bath filled with lukewarm water, and submerge sunburned areas.
Remember that water doubles your sun exposure. Apply sunscreen under your eyes and chin to ward off reflected light.
Wear a hat!!!!!
Remember,
heed warnings of sun exposure.
from the Association President Dear Friends, The past few months have given me time to reflect on many things in my life…..first, was sticking my neck out to run for president of the Southfork Association again, not one of my best decisions…….but because of the opposition of a few!!!!! Never the less, I did and received a majority of the votes which I really appreciated. More then that, I really appreciated those who stepped forward to fill the vacancies of the officers when I was overwhelmed with 4 resignations that came after my election. With a full board of officers and directors, our major goals have been to serve every resident of the park. The President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and the Directors work tirelessly, without pay to serve you, the resident and members of the association. These officers and directors spend many hours planning events, patrolling with the security patrol, preparing the newsletter, preparing financial reports and planning for, setting up and tearing down after all events. These officers also spend many hours talking with residents and members to get their comments both positive and negative concerning life here at Southfork. Most important is that the officers and directors of the board take every problem or suggestion very seriously and then culminate that information for inclusion in the annual meeting between the members of the association and the park owner and his manager. ow, the question has been why!!!!!!! Only (137) of the 240 homes represented in Southfork have joined the Association this current year. My question is, DO WE NEED an Association? During the summer, one resident has sent emails to me and the rest of the board with major concerns regarding the care of the park and lack of. The officers and board members have addressed those concerns with the park manager and owner of the park!! While those concerns are being worked on and will be continued to be worked on……We do need a larger number of park residents to become members of the Association and to voice their concerns!!!!!!! If you don’t care, why should 9 officers and directors care!!!!!!!!! I am asking all of you to join us in this year 2009. If you have not already joined the Association, I am urging you to join in 2010----------and become active!!!!! The Association with the majority of the residents are YOUR VOICE in making sure that our needs are met. If we do not make the requests of our needs, who will? Please help yourself and your fellow neighbors so that we may become one united and have our concerns answered. Dot Cady, President of Southfork Mobile Home Association Year 2009
From orm’s desk We love our grandchildren but we must remember they are children. Please control them at all times but especially in the pool. For an example, someone untied a thermometer and stuffed it in the vacuum line of the pool. We were lucky to be able to fish it out. Enough Said!!!!! Things have been very quiet and this has allowed Sandie and I to get caught up on a few things and put together a new marketing plan. Now we put our listings on many websites with a virtual walk through. I have had several complaints about someone placing the newspaper on the front steps very early in the morning. Please do not go onto anyone else’s property without their consent. Also, we have had reports of newspapers missing. Please if you don’t pay for a paper--leave it alone! The delivery girl gets charged for the missing papers that she has to redeliver. Thanks, Norm _____________________________________________________________________________________
Women’s Club On August 5th, we had our meeting by the pool. It was a very short meeting with nothing to report. An appeal was made again for school supplies to be put in the box in the clubhouse. Also, a can of food or rice is to be brought at each meeting, but none in September. The ladies relaxed by the Pool while enjoying good pastries baked by the great chef “Sam” (not to be confused with our Sam, the coffee man.) Because safety comes first, we could not go in the pool because it started thundering. The weather is something we cannot control. Next month (September) the group is going to IHOP for breakfast at 10am and there is a sign up sheet in the Clubhouse. Please sign up because we want to give them a head count. Hattie Lane our Vice-President will direct the meeting because I will be away. Marielle, President

IGHT PATROL
We are now not only patrolling Southfork and Blue Jay but also showing a presence in Harmony Heights. When the President of their association returns in October, Joyce Hudak from Blue Jay and I (Tony) will meet with him to set up a system to work together patrolling all three facilities. This should cut down our patrol time. Thanks, Tony Trubiano _____________________________________________________________________________________

“BU CO” game is coming in October
A new game of Bunco is scheduled for approximately the 3rd Sunday in October and monthly thereafter on every 3rd Sunday @ 6:30pm. This is a very easy dice game and no thinking involved. You can learn this in 5 minutes and we have people who have played the game who are ready to teach it. This will be for both men and women and its for tables in multiples of 4 people. There will be a sign up sheet posted in September to see how many interested people we will have. So ask your friends to come along and plan on a fun evening. There will be a cost of $3.00 per person and we will have about 7 cash prizes given out at the end of the evening. Everyone has a chance at winning, even the losers. We already have many people who are interested and I have already talked with a few snowbirds who want to play the game when they get back to Southfork. So be looking for the sign up sheet in the foyer of the clubhouse on the bulletin board in mid-September. Along with this game we will ask people to bring their favorite finger food (chips, dip etc.) It sounds like a lot of fun especially when someone hollers “BUNCO” and we will use a traveling dice for this event and there will be many surprises. _____________________________________________________________________________________
Just a reminder Please remember when you leave the clubhouse after any function or use of the library, please turn out all lights, especially the restrooms, and make sure all doors are locked. If chairs, tables etc have been moved, please return them and do not use the cardroom as a storage spot. Be considerate of your fellow residents who may using the card room or hall after you.
