On a regular basis I, Phyllis Grossi send out emails to the snowbirds when there are any happenings here at Southfork, such as deaths, sickness of a resident etc. during the summer months. If there are any happenings or excitement (hurricanes) here that you would not necessarily know and would like to be kept up to date, I would gladly put you on my mailing list.

The Pine tree Crosses Pine trees know when it’s Easter……..

Begin watching in the tops of the trees about two weeks before Easter.

Usually about the first week of April, depending on the weather and the spring growth as to when the little yellow shoots will begin to sprout and then branch off and form a cross.

When Easter Sunday arrives you should be able to see the little crosses on top of the pine trees.

As literally millions have seen the little crosses on top of the Pine Trees about 2 weeks before Easter…being another witness of the Amazing Grace to the human race is something to see.

Pass this on to your little grandchildren and teach them that the Pine Trees know when it’s Easter!

ewspaper Delivery It has been brought to the editors attention that many of the newspapers do not get delivered or are missing.

I have found out that a few find their newsletter in flower beds, under steps etc. after many days of the actual delivery.

Is it possible to maybe let your street captain know where the paper may be placed? Some have installed mail boxes near their entries or placing a marked receptacle just in case of a wind storm or something. We appreciate any help given. Thanks, Phyllis Grossi

Recipe of the Month Crock Pot Chicken Teriyaki Only two ingredients. What could be easier?

6 to 8 chicken pieces 1 bottle teriyaki sauce or barbeque sauce Wash chicken pieces. Arrange in bottom of crock pot. Cover with teriyaki sauce. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours.

Chicken Stroganoff in Crock Pot 6 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves 1 (16oz) sour cream 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 envelope Lipton dry onion soup mix Mix all together and put into crock pot over the chicken. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or until chicken is tender. Serve over cooked noodles or rice.

If at anytime you want baked potatoes/corn on the cob with crock pot meals…..Wash potatoes, rub with butter and wrap in foil and place on top of food cooking in crock pot. For the corn on the cob, wrap mini ears of fresh or frozen corn on the cob, also rub with butter and wrap in foil and place on top of food in crock pot. ** OTE** secret to crock pot cooking……..do not remove cover while cooking!!!

from the Association President Dear Friends and Neighbors, Happy Spring…….we are truly blessed to be here in Southfork! Many of us gathered at the retention pond to watch the Space Shuttle on a beautiful warm evening recently. What an awesome sight!

While there have been resignations of officers and directors, we have had willing volunteers to step up to the challenge of the Association for 2009. We are extremely grateful!

If you haven’t had the opportunity to go to Hot Dogs by the Pool chaired by Jim Morvatz and helped by his happy group of people, you have missed a treat. Jim has added many tasty items to the menu, and when we can, there will be entertainment to enjoy while you dine.

There have been a variety of activities in March enjoyed by many. Check the planned April Activity list. If you have ideas and or help to offer, give Aggie Mitchell a call. March was full of trips, shows and things to do! We need you too!!!!

Be sure to sign up for the “October Fest”, Halloween Costume Contest, Dinner and Entertainment , before those of you who go North, and be sure to be here on October 31st for fun.

Board meetings will be held in April and May and always a welcome to everyone who wants to attend. Per our bylaws, there are no meetings in June, July and August.

February Annual Association Meeting Highlights Mary Bolin opened with a prayer and a pledge to the flag. There was a quorum of 51 people in attendance and the opening of the meeting was lead by Dot Cady, our President.

Secretary, Marge Morrison, resigned the week before the meeting and Aggie Mitchell agreed to be Secretary Pro-tem and she read Marge’s resignation letter. The summary of the January 26th Annual Meeting was read by Phyllis Grossi. The Treasurer’s report was read by Richard Brown who also read the proposed budget report for 2009.

It’s ever To Late!!!!

There is still time to sign up for the many activities here in Southfork. If you’ve been asking “Why didn’t I put our names in, we really wanted to go?” You can by contacting a board member or the activities chairperson, Aggie Mitchell. Aggie needs volunteers to help with summer activities, especially Memorial Day, and Labor Day. Please contact Aggie if anyone can chair or help with one of these holidays.

Volunteers are always needed to host the monthly potlucks etc.. If you participate in any of these events and want to see them continue, please consider taking on a hosting duty occasionally.

Sign up sheets are on the clubhouse bulletin board and also a listing of all activities that are and will be happening.

Association Board Highlights March 16th 1. Resignation received from Richard Brown, Al Albrecht and Mary Price.

2. Aggie Mitchell voted in as Secretary.

8. Committee chair people were named.

9. Per By-Laws there will be no board meetings in June, July and August. Special meetings will be arranged if necessary.

Day 1. Give up a grudge. Make a list of people you hold grudges against. Write down what each person did to you and how long you have held the grudge. Then write down one thing you liked about each person you have the grudge with. Go over the reasons you developed the grudges, and write down one time you behaved that way and what your reason was. Ask yourself why you need to let go of the grudge. Let go of one grudge a day Day 2. Judge everyone favorably. Become aware of what you think about people and how you judge people. Are you looking over what they are wearing? How they are standing? Find something positive about that person. Take time to allow this to sink in. Judge yourself favorably as well. Keep notes of praise with things you appreciate like or feel good about.

Day3. Don’t gossip about anyone. This may seem impossible at first, but tell yourself it’s only for a day.

Even when you are tempted to say something negative about a person, don’t. Don’t listen to gossip, refuse to be insulted. Don’t answer back to an insult. Say nothing and breathe deeply. So much harm is created by lashing back. You will find the world a better place to live in!!!!!!

March Association Meeting

Agnes Mitchell opened with a prayer and a pledge to the flag at 9am. There was a quorum of 42 people in attendance and the opening of the meeting was lead by Dot Cady, our President.

Announced was the resignation’s of Treasurer, Richard Brown, and Directors, Al Albrecht and Mary price.

At the last Board meeting, Larry Ruffner was voted in as a new director and Agnes Mitchell was voted in as secretary and Phyllis Grossi was voted in as new treasurer.

Secretary minutes were read by, Secretary, Agnes Mitchell Treasurer’s report was read by, Treasurer, Phyllis Grossi Old Business: 1. Committee chairpersons list has been completed.

2. Monthly Potluck’s…..A need for a someone different each month to sign up for Host/Hostess duty.

3. Committee reports were read 4. Pancake breakfast report made and Pete & Dixie resigning as chair people.

5. Hotdogs by the pool report given by Jim Morvatz.

6. Carport sale on March 28th has 2 ads in the newspaper 7. Recycling cookout will be on March 28th and explained by Marvin Dye ew Business: 1. New signs for carport sales etc. purchased and approved by the board were shown.

2.Purchase of a large screen TV for the clubhouse was tabled until the November Association meeting when all the facts and figures can be given.

3. Motion passed for purchasing of a tent for $75.00 if it meets our needs and the use of a tent for the shuffleboard tournament from Craig Whitbeck.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:10am and following the Membership meeting there was a short Open Board meeting held regarding 2 new directors needed and voted on.

The (2) new directors voted in by the board for year 2009 were: Marti Witham and Bob Lynch. Meeting was then adjourned at 10:30am

ewsletter There is a new look to the calendar that I hope is easier to read for everyone. We tried it for the March issue and people seem to like it a lot better. There was so much information on many days of the week and we just didn’t have any more room for other items and this was the next best thing that could be done.

Speaking of the newsletter, I have had a few people question why I want the information so early. First of all it takes me all month plus to type/edit and try to rearrange articles I receive from everyone. On a monthly basis the average of 16 to 18 pages I submit for each newsletter takes more then just a few hours to put together. It also depends on the size of the article I receive whether it’s a full page or just a partial page, then I try to get other information on a page to fill in if possible. I get articles up to the last minute and I try to cram all of this in without adding an extra page because I have to submit an even number of pages. So I am “begging” anyone who wants anything submitted for any current month, please don’t wait until the last minute because there will be times, when I have to say, sorry, not this month. The goal I have placed is that every resident gets a newsletter at their homes before the 1st of every month, why………because there are many events that take place on the 1st of the month and it gives all of you time to plan your days. So change your mind thoughts of cutoffs at a later date like it was in the years past because after the 19th or 20th , I will not accept anything more.

To all contact or chair people of any event such as cards, etc. when you have nothing for the summer months, let me know and if you have change of times or dates I must know this also. When you snowbirds get back and start up with any of your activity or games I must know this also. Nothing will change on this calendar until I hear from you.

I would like to thank all my friends and neighbors at Southfork for so much kindness shown to me after the death of my husband, Orville Gardner. It meant so much to me to receive the many cards, calls and all the prayers shown to us before and after his passing.

I will be making a trip so Southfork soon and I hope to see all of you!!!!!!!

From orm’s desk Perhaps the cold weather is gone now. I am beginning to smell the beautiful orange blossoms and see flowers starting to bloom now and if we could only get some rain.

Pasco county is serious about the water restrictions, so please be aware and only use water on your designated day. I would like to thank the person who stuck the anonymous note under my door to remind me of the rules. Thank you, but please sign your notes from now on so I can thank you personally!!!!

Those of you who have irrigation systems on timers should have them re-set so that they only operate on your assigned day at the proper time.

We have a new young man to help Andrew. His name is Brennan, so if you see him around, do not be alarmed.

Please be advised that you must have a current license plate and verify insurance on any vehicle or trailer stored in our RV Storage area.. If they do not comply with the rules, I may have them towed away and impounded. Sorry!!!!

Women’s Club On March 4th, 55 ladies met in the clubhouse for the monthly meeting. The clubhouse was decorated with green for St Patrick’s Day and was very festive. Thanks to Mary Jo Dye, Brenda Knight and Sue Peltier for the hosting.

After the chairman of each committee read their reports we talked about the survey that was given out last month. One of the suggestions was to have a Suggestion Box. Well, because of the generosity of Bill and Sherrie Gladfelter who decorated a beautiful box, we now have this box in the Library for all or any of your suggestions. Another suggestion was to have some speakers at our meetings ----- and our Charity committee got Isabel Wirth to talk about “Day Star Hope Center” and it was very interesting and informative. We gave her a check of $50.00 for Day Star along with all the canned goods donated by the women at the meeting and her car was full. (Remember to bring your canned goods next month.) Next month we will have Christina Bates, Social Change Community Coordinator from Sunrise, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault Center to let us know what her group does.

We also received a donation of $100.00 from a member of Tanya Hahn’s family to help our Charity Committee with their good work. Thank you Tanya and Bobby.

The ladies who wanted to be in the secret pal group picked up their new sheets and we started another year of secret pals.

At this monthly meeting, prizes were given and donated by two generous ladies, Nancy Jones and Carol Quandt. There was a Shamrock put under certain chairs for the pick of winners.

Next month the social part of the meeting will be hosted by Sherry Gladfelter, Helen Stowe, Jean Sutton and Willie Stoever and in May we will have Pajama Party. As you can see, there is never a dull moment in the Women’s Club.

A REPORT ON THE MARCH POTLUCK The March Potluck hosted by Craig and Carol Whitbeck and Mary Bolin, turned out to be another outstanding success which was attended by over 60 Southfork residents.

With a St. Patrick's Day theme the decor was predominately green right down to the icing on the cake which was provided by the Homeowners Association.

Many delicious Irish dishes made their way to our bountiful table including, several green salads, shepherds pie, corned beef and cabbage, delightfully green potatoes and even some green desserts.

After dinner entertainment was provided by our own worldwide renowned Southfork Jammers led by Maestro, Conductress and Accomplished Accordionist Bella Kinney. It was another stellar performance, but was briefly interrupted when washtub player Marvin (Mr. John Deere) Dye was found napping during the opening number. When questioned by the bandleader concerning his untimely lack of attentiveness Marvin explained that he was worn out from doing the laundry at home and that "he wuz tired"! Further questioning by some fellow musicians revealed a clothesline full of some rather provocative ladies wear which Mary Jo Dye loudly proclaimed "wuz not her's!! After some threatening action with a rolling pin Mary Jo got the situation under control, everybody "tuned up" and the concert continued.

Several musical numbers were performed and then the Honorable Southfork Mayor, Mr. Bill Glatfelter hisself, was invited to come on stage with the Jammers.

He was presented with a miniature musical washboard and was given the opportunity to play a "small" part.

After that, the Jammers produced some more musical (?) instruments, passed them out to the crowd and then proceeded to get the whole audience involved in some musical renditions. After several crowd favorites the show ended with a rousing patriotic musical singing tribute of America the Beautiful and a "simulated indoor fireworks display" by a flag waving member of the Jammer's Color Guard. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Footnote: Mr. John Deere is reportedly doing OK, although still under house arrest and Aggie Mitchell, our illustrious Activities Director Extraordinaire is looking for volunteers to host the April Poduck. Will someone please volunteer for that before the draft is reinstated?

On April 8th, we are planning a “Tacky Tourist Night” For a Wednesday evening Activity at the Southfork Pool Cabana. Of course there will be the Usual good fare which we promise will Tittalate Your Taste Buds and Tantalize your Olfactory glands.

And we might even have some live entertainment!

So – Dig around in your closet or that old trunk And drag out your Best Tourist Clothes.

(Remember that old pair of Madras Plaid Knee-Knockers or that Floral shirt that you just had To have to complete your Vacation Ensemble)?

Well, the dress for the evening will be “Tourist Casual”

We might even have some swell prizes for the Gaudiest Guest.

So please come join us for another evening of Frivolity & Festivity Here at Southfork. Put it on your calendar, That’s April 8th between 4:30 & 6PM.

MORE ACTIVITIES Info from Aggie!!

An AARP Driver Safety Class was held March 18th & 19th . 26 people signed up, which is considered a full class, and I hear that it was well done and very beneficial.

The Shuffleboard Tournament is Thurs., April 2nd, at 9:00. We need a couple more ladies and some alternates along with scorekeepers and judges.

Please sign up at the clubhouse!

Saturday evening, April 4th, 6:30-9:30 there is an Association Members only activity. Tom Eldridge is entertaining us with his music for your listening and dancing pleasure. Pizza will be scheduled to arrive about 7:30. B.Y.O.B. Saturday, April 25th, at 4:30, a Poolside Box Lunch Picnic is scheduled.

Please note that there is no glass allowed in the pool area, however Bathing Suits are allowed!!

I am very excited about an activity that I have scheduled for October 31st. It is a Halloween Party Pig Roast! There will be music, dinner, entertainment, dancing, karaoke, a costume contest and dessert all for just $12.00 per person and you do not even have to leave the park!! Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board at the clubhouse now for you to make your reservations, as the chef needs to know how many to plan for and so you can plan for it too. Tickets will go on sale the end of September.

The response I received from the Questionaire I handed out at the February Association meeting was very positive and gave me a good idea of what the members want to do, how they want to be entertained, how they want to spend their money and how they want to spend the Association money. 70% are in favor of a popcorn popper, 48% in favor of a flat screen television for the clubhouse, 99% want GOOD entertainment and 80% are willing to pay $8-$ 10 for good entertainment.

Country Western ight At The Southfork Waterin’ Hole March 11th, 2009 A Great Big Howdee to YA’LL Over 100 Cowgirls & Cowboys rode in for our latest Wednesday night gathering at the SF Cabana to dine on “rootin-tootin bean soup”, buffalo burgers and other country vittles.

Many folks turned out early and stayed late to enjoy the sunset over Southfork and to dine at tables set with Cowboy Boots and Stetson Hats as centerpieces.

Everyone thar enjoyed some of the greatest country western tunes provided by Mr. Rod Paul, a local entertainer who has been invited back to present some more of his pickin’ & grinning’ for our upcoming recycle dinner to he held on March 28th in the clubhouse.

Special thanks go out to all of the many good Southfork Folks that come to eat with us, bring your desserts, help cook and clean up for our Wednesday evening get-togethers. Without your gracious help and support these events would not be possible.

Steve Jeffri Show This was one great show held on Friday evening, March 13th and there were 120 in attendance. Steve does some interacting with the audience and he found a Casanova from our own community and that was “Harvey” and Steve had him go and kiss “Edna.” She was in awe over this and then Steve sang another song “Only You” and he picked Paul and Jim to help him sing. Then he had Paul go an serenade Edna and boy you should have seen her blush.

At the end of the show he did a salute to all the veterans. As he called out each branch of service and sang their hymns he had each person of that branch stand up and all saluted them and he thanked all who are serving in the military today. He also remembered the Fireman, Policeman, Nurses, Wacs etc. What a great performance and we all can’t wait to see him next year.

eighborhood Watch As a precaution, keep your vehicles keypad handy at night when retiring. Put it on a table next to your bed and if you see or hear any activity requiring assistance, set off your cars alarm by hitting the panic button.

Anyone hearing an alarm should immediately turn on their lights, especially outside lights and then you can assist the person in need.

In the event of criminal activity, DO NOT TRY TO APPREHEND THE LAW BREAKER ----CALL THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY OR 911.

If you have a camera - remember, that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Security Watch There is now a security watch group here in the community along with Blue Jay taking turns patrolling the streets every day of the month. Look for the sign up sheets on the bulletin board in the clubhouse to help out with this patrol. We need all the help we can get!!!

The primary purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to increase neighborhood awareness in the area of crime prevention so that potential crime risks can be quickly identified and combined in the most efficient manner. Anyone can get involved, even the busiest of people. It is a simple matter of keeping our eyes and ears open.

What does a Neighborhood Watch do?

A Neighborhood Watch is a neighbor helping neighbors. “Extra eyes and ears.�

Members watch out for each other and the neighborhood, and report activities that raise suspicions to the police or 911 and let park management know of anything going on.

There is another suggestion for those who do not want to patrol the streets at night. The suggestion is that each street have people who sit on their own enclosed screened porches at different times of the night and watching what is happening of their own environment and property and car watching. There should be residents from each end of the street watching at different times and this would be along with the patrols who are out. There are many who cannot sleep at night and instead of watching TV they could be part of this watch on their own screened in porches. We do have a person who has been patrolling for many years with his bicycle in the middle of the night which is a great help to all. When you see or hear anything that may be out of the ordinary, either call the police department, 911 or the contact person who is on watch for the patrols. A list of contacts will be in a calendar form in all the newsletters starting with this months issue. There will not be a schedule of households who are watching on their screened porches.

We need more watch people out on patrols especially during the summer months. Please consider volunteering! If we have enough coverage between Southfork and Blue Jay a volunteer might only have to be out one (1) night a month.

I think that security watch in both areas are really needed and this would deter any unknown people from coming in and trying anything. Any suggestion of this sort can be made to Tony Trubiano at 813-9920844.
