A OPE LETTER TO ALL SOUTHFORK RESIDE TS Wow - What an Annual Membership Meeting!!

Many problems were brought up and many opinions expressed.

Some old situations were dealt with, some were tabled and some new situations presented themselves.

New officers were elected. I was elected to the Board of Directors and will be serving a two year term.

“Thank You” to all of you who thought enough of me to cast your ballot in my direction. I sincerely appreciate your faith in my abilities and I promise to endeavor to earn your respect by dealing with the responsibilities of the job as conscientiously as possible. I am a very detail oriented person and firmly believe in the fact that if you take care of the details, the details will take care of you.

I have recently been studying the Bylaws of the Southfork Homeowners Association and would like to use this opportunity to reiterate a couple of the very most important regulations that are found in the very first page of the document.

Section 1.3 Purposes. Southfork is an adult mobile home community and the residents in the main, are retired persons from many areas of the United States and Canada. To advance the interest of the residents the primary goals of the Association shall be: A. To encourage and implement the fullest enjoyment of the facilities and privileges to the members.

B. To inaugurate and promote social and recreational entertainment and cultural activities.

C. To encourage and promote friendly relations between members and with park management.

D. To serve as the business and financial authority for dealings by the Association.

In the national government and here at Southfork there is a new administration at the helm. A chance for a new beginning is at hand for both of those entities, and it is my intention to work with the old and new officers and board members and to abide by the above mentioned bylaws and hopefully bring a new peace and harmony to our neighborhood here at Southfork.

Recipe of the Month

Sunshine Breakfast Casserole 6 eggs 1 cup milk 6 oz cheddar cheese grated 4 hash brown patties, frozen Cooked and broken up bacon or sausage 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon black pepper ½ teaspoon dry mustard (optional) ½ cup chopped onion Directions: Line an 8x8 baking dish with frozen hash browns. Sprinkle hash browns with crumbled sausage or bacon. Mix together, eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and dry mustard. Pour over meat and hash browns.

Top with grated cheddar cheese. Refrigerate overnight.

Next morning, bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 45min to an hour. Serve warm for breakfast. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Italian meatballs with a secret ingredient……delicious

2 lb ground chuck 1 cup ricotta cheese 1 cup bread crumbs 1 tbs olive oil 2 eggs ½ cup grated Romano cheese Parsley, salt, pepper to taste Mix altogether into individual meatballs and bake for 25-30 min in a 350 degree oven. When done, add to your favorite spaghetti sauce.

From orm’s desk HELP!!!!!! In spite of many, many requests, we continue to have people flushing things down our toilets. Please, please….we recently have had, Terry Cloth towels, Depends and even a piece of Nylon rope, “Yes Rope.” It may be somebody’s grand child or visitor, but please, observe what your guests do and advise them. I am sure that those who smell it would appreciate your consideration. From the January 10th to the 15th, we have had to clear the pump’s 12 times.

Also, when you walk your dogs, please do not allow them on someone else’s yard. Even though you pick up it still leaves an odor.

No resident selling or subletting a home should ever promise that the potential resident can live in Southfork. All prospective residents are required to complete, a resident application, provide proof of age, submit to a background check and pay the required fee.

Acceptance of any new resident is not guaranteed. Any person moving in without prior acceptance by Southfork Management, may be given notice to remove the home from the community.

From new president, Dot Cady Dear members of the Association, Thank you for your vote of confidence and the many hugs that I received today.

Ted Sternhardt and I had a lengthy conversation while we waited for the ballots to be counted….we agreed that no matter who became President, we will work together to hopefully heal the differences that became very evident. I look forward to working with Ted, the officers and directors.

We will be seeking committee chairpersons, please volunteer. With your help, I will do my utmost to make future meetings pleasant to attend.

Women’s Club On January 7th, we had our first meeting of 2009 with an attendance of 51 ladies. One of the topics was the Memorial Committee and this committee has to be revamped. We will have new sheets that will be circulated to the ladies for reorganizing this committee. This is very important because we are living in a Senior Park and our services are needed more and more and everyone should make an effort to participate.

The Charity committee made a request at our meeting to the membership. With the economy the way it is the food banks are getting low and it would be wonderful if all the ladies could bring one (1) can of food or beans or rice each month, and then we would have a minimum of 50 items per meeting. If we look at ourselves, we are so lucky to have so much to live for, so let’s help our community neighbors.

After the meeting some of the ladies asked me if we could continue the “Secret Pal” program. I know that at the meeting very few showed some interest, but because of the demand it does not hurt anyone if some of us want to have a Secret Pal -- so the sheets will be available at the next meeting. Also it is time to find out who is your secret pal, so please bring a card or a gift for you Secret pal and now you can sign your name on the card.

Also it is time to pay your annual dues of $5.00 in cash (no checks please) and we will also have an election of officers. Quilting Since the Bazaar and Christmas are over, we have resumed meeting at 9:00 am on Wednesdays except for the first Wednesday of the each month.

Much appreciation goes to Fran Armstrong and Marci Emley for 7 ½ years of faithful service to our group.

Now we are seeking two (2) people to take their places as leaders. We also would welcome donations of 100% cotton fabrics for quilting.

This year we are improving our skills through group instruction and members are sharing and teaching projects to be made.

We encourage all to come and exercise their creativity!!

First Annual Hand and Foot Tournament The first annual Hand and Foot tournament was held on Saturday, January 24th at the clubhouse and was a great success. There were twenty four (24) entrants and the tournament started at 11am ending at 2:30pm.

Everyone brought a type of finger food and we had 2 tables full of delicious items including desserts and coffee. In between and during the games everyone munched on goodies and it was like a gourmet special displayed with a great party atmosphere.

There was a lot of quiet at first when everyone was seated and then you could hear the giggles and laughter start and when everyone had really relaxed the fun really began. I was told by CR & BK if I mentioned anything about their game I would be sued……(smile) but I have to tell you their opposing team went out before they could get their cards down to start playing. Its all in the cards and if you have them okay and if not………well we seen what happened.

I want to thank Marielle Quain and Irene Schreier for helping and totaling the games to see who the winners were. They took care of entering the people as they came in and making sure everything was okay with the food table, offered coffee to whom ever wanted any while playing the game etc. They verified and re-verified each game sheet to see whom the 1st and 2nd place teams would be. Again, thank you both very much!

We had an entry fee of $5.00 person plus a deck of cards. All of the entry fees collected were paid back to the top winning two (2) teams. A total of $120.00 was collected and shared between the two teams.

The first place winner of $35.00 each went to Marge Morrison and Wilma Thompson. The 2nd place team was Betty Laforest and Frieda Ballerstein and they both received $25.00 each. We had a very close 3rd and almost a tie by about 100 points.

It was such a huge success everyone asked if the tournaments could be held quarterly or semi annual each year instead of just annual. This will be discussed at our weekly games and whatever is decided will become our annual or semi annual event.

So all in all, thanks to everyone who entered the tournament, brought food or helped in any way.

A successful event is only made when you have good participation.

Seasoned Seniors Slow-pitch Softball comes to Southfork The “Bombers” team took the field Saturday, January 4th at 2pm for the first day of spring training. What a sight…10 seasoned seniors, white heads, tanned legs and big smiles, swinging bats, chasing balls and calling for BenGay! No need for EMT”s as laughter is good medicine and there was plenty of laughter.

Several passersby became spectators and a few ventured down the hill and onto the field to join in the fun and get a little exercise. Tom Morrison made a spectacular catch that brought a roar from the other players and the spectators.

A spokesman for the “Bombers” stated that there is a need for coaches, managers, more players, cheerleaders, spectators and kibitzers. He also stated that skill is not a requirement but a desire to have fun is needed.

Spring training will continue until the team feels it is ready to begin games. If you are a new-comer or you’ve been here for years, this is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and have fun in the process.

Everyone is welcome. Come on down to the field at the end of Ewing Dr., on Sunday’s at 2pm. If you can, bring a glove or bat and a lawn chair as well as a bottle of drinking water.

Men’s Shuffleboard There are a group of men who play shuffleboard like an addiction everyday at 1pm, from September to May in the winter months, 9am in the summer months, Monday through Saturday. There are many days anyone can hear them yelling and hollering like they are at an arena for a sporting event.

One of the men “little john” talks to the pins and calls them by many names the others are more interested in the “kitchen” hit to get the opposition in the hole with many minus “10’s.”

That bowling pin is really a challenge and many try to go around it but succeed in dropping it and get more minus points. Of course, there is much harassment following all of this commotion.

One of the guys and you know who you are , after hitting the pin and it wobbles like it is going to fall, talks to it and says, “get up and fight you coward.” After one of the guys makes a good shot, up comes another guy and states “ you would never have made that good shot if the angels were not looking over you and helping you out. “ These are only a few little tidbits on what happens daily and it would take many pages to write everything that goes on. So if you want a few laughs, come up to see these guys play daily and join them for a good game with much laughter and carrying on and the daily discussion of world events following the game.

RETIREMENT (From A Child's View) After a Christmas break, a teacher asked her pupils how they spent their holidays.

One small boy wrote the following: We always used to spend Christmas with Grandpa and Grandma. They used to live here in a big brick home, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a place with a lot of other retarded people. They all live in little tin boxes. They ride on big three-wheeled tricycles and they all wear name tags because they don't know who they are. They go to a big building, called a wrecked hall, but if it was wrecked, they got it fixed, because its alright now. They play games and do exercises there, but they don't do them very good.

There is a swimming pool there. They go into it and just stand there with their hats on. I guess they don't know how to swim.

As you go into their park, their is a doll house with a little man sitting in it. He watches all day so they can't get out without him seeing them. When they sneak out they go to the beach and pick up shells.

My Grandma used to bake cookies and stuff, but I guess she forgot how. Nobody cooks, they just eat out. They eat the same thing every night, early birds. Some of the people are so retarded that they don't know how to cook at all, so my Grandma and Grandpa bring food into the wrecked hall and they call it "pot luck."

My Grandma says Grandpa worked all his life and earned retardment. I wish they would move back up here, but I guess the little man in the doll house won't Let them out!

Christmas Day Dinner at the Clubhouse A Christmas day dinner was held at the clubhouse at 1:00pm. There were 44 people in attendance and everyone brought something to share. The event was hosted by Dot Cady and Aggie Mitchell. Two tables for food, one table for dessert and six tables for dining were arranged with red, green and white tablecloths with centerpieces. Two coffee urns were going, one with regular and one with decaf coffee. Each table had a card under the centerpiece and the table with the lowest number went through the buffet line first and so on with the ACE being number one. Each dining table had a Christmas napkin and a candy cane at each place setting. Christmas music was playing and the Christmas tree was lit, that is until the Christmas lights decided to go out!!! However, we managed to enjoy ourselves visiting, eating and being merry. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it!!

Dot and I would like to thank everyone for coming and making the day even more special than it already was. Hopefully this will become another event that will continue on in the years to come. Submitted by, “Aggie�

Southfork Phone Directory By now everyone should have received their new phone directory delivered by your street captains.

Any changes to the directory made after November 15th, 2008 will not be reflected in this new book and will take effect in the 2010 directory.

Please note, if you would like the state that you are from listed besides your phone number please let me know. Take a look at the new changes of additions and see how the other residents have theirs listed with their Northern home states of where they moved from.

Cell Phone Important Information For all the folks with cell phones..(This information should be kept in your car, purse, wallet etc.)

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Listed below are 5 items to remember: 1. Emergency?

The emergency number worldwide for MOBILE is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out!

2. Locked keys in your car?

Does your car have a remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object.

3. Hidden battery power?

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.

4. How to disable a stolen mobile phone?

To check your mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06#, a 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them the code.

They will then be able to block your handset so even it the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. Whomever stole it will never be able to use it.

5. Free directory service for cells?

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a directory and it makes this situation more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simple dial (800)free411 or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

Double and Single Pinochle Many people have expressed the desire to play both double and single pinochle in the evening and since Tuesday is an open evening in the clubhouse, we set a starting date of January 27th

If enough people had signed up by then. If you are interested and have not signed up, you may do so or just show up on Tuesday’s before 7pm as the game will start at 7pm. If you have any questions call Aggie Mitchell. ________________________________________________________________________

Valentine’s Day Strawberry Social A Valentine’s strawberry social will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday, February 14th.

Strawberries and ice cream, music and socializing will be enjoyed starting at 7:00pm.

From 8:00pm to 10:30pm the music and socializing will continue and entertainment and dancing will be added for all who would like to stay. Our music and entertainment is by Larry Ruffner. For those who are new in our community, Larry is a resident of our park.

Admission is free for Association members and for non-members it will be a $5.00 payable at the door. So, if you have not paid your dues, now would be the time to do it!!

There will be a sign up sheet at the clubhouse. Please sign up by February 9th and plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart, friends and neighbors. If you are staying for the dance, you are welcome to bring snacks and beverages. Please come and enjoy.

Ellenton Outlet Mall Trip A trip to Ellenton has been planned for Saturday, February 21st. There will be shopping at the Ellenton Outlet Mall and then lunch at the “ Roaring 20’s Pizza and Pipes.” We will leave the park about 8:30am that morning, shop until noon, then while having lunch we will be able to enjoy the music of the “Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ!!”

The sign up sheet is in the clubhouse. We will be carpooling, so if you can drive, please indicate so and how many you would be able to take with you. I think this will be a fun day and hope that you will consider joining us. “Aggie” ________________________________________________________________________

Christmas Golf Cart Parade Results The annual Christmas Golf Cart parade was held on December 20th with Santa Claus in the lead. There were 23 well decorated carts. We were joined by five carts from Harmony Heights Mobile Home Park and we were cheered on by onlookers here in our park as well by Blue Jay and Harmony Heights.

The carts were judged by two couples from Shady Oaks Senior Park in Zephyrhills. There were seven winning golf carts. Shirley Gardner won first place, John and Marielle Quain won second, third place went to a cart in Harmony Heights. The most seasonal cart was won by Don & Georgia Duarte, the most colorful cart was won by Aggie Mitchell, the cart with the most lights was won by Carl & Anita Warschkow and the happiest cart was won by Pete & Dixie Logoyda. Following the parade, refreshments were enjoyed at the clubhouse and the prizes were presented to the winners.

I would like to thank the Association and Management for their financial support for the prizes, and everyone who donated the cookies, and a special thanks to Shirley Gardner for her clever shopping techniques so that we were able to get twice the value for half the price for the prizes. Charity Committee Women’s Club DAYSTAR HOPE CENTER, 15512 US 301, Dade City is in greater need of donations since there are more and more unemployed or low paid people seeking their help.

Southfork resident, Isabel Wirth, works there and says they are in need of household items in good condition and “food” - especially dry beans, rice, pasta and canned goods (particularly soup.)

We would like members of the Women’s club to bring any of the above food items to meetings starting in February. Your assistance in this project will, as always, be appreciated.
