On the 3d Thursday of each month, the get together will be after the potluck dinners which usually ends at approximately 6:30pm. Bring your knitting or crochet, and if you don't know how to do either, someone will be more than willing to show you and help you get started. On Thursday, February 21" @1:30pm at the Clubhouse, the Yarn Hookers will be hosting a social time and have invited two local knitting and crochet groups to meet with us. We hope to learn more of what they do and the projects they are involved with, and hope we can exchange many patterns and ideas with them. We as a group, we are already starting our rame project for the Woman's Bazaar in the fall. So come join us for a little relaxation and a little laughter. Welcome New Residents: John and Nancy McCallan 11125 Palamino Dr. Beginning K2,P2 Those interested in learning the basics of beginning knitting are welcome to come to Jane Marten's house at 11120 Mesquite from 10-ll:30am on Tuesdays, Feb. 12, 19 and 26. Casting on, knit, purl, ribbing, yarn over, increasing, decreasing, incorporating fun fur, picking up a dropped stitch, binding off, and reading a simple garter stitch pattern will be presented. March 4 will be limited to sock knitting using four needles. Bring a set of #7 short needles and practice yarn. All are welcome. This is intended to be a small group with individual help to prepare you to be more comfortable for the Thursday night group at the Clubhouse.

From Norm's Desk. 2008 is gonna be great! Hopefully, things will continue to improve here at Southfork. For those who haven't noticed, we have installed a gate on the north side of the pool fence to allow access to the restrooms from the shuffleboard courts. We have also repainted the floors in the pool bathrooms. I have hired another man to do the cleaning and to help Andrew at times. We will gradually work him into the system so that if Andrew has a problem, Don can fill in. I remember 1959 when gas was 30 cents a gallon, a new car was $2,200, a nice home was $18,500.00, bread was 20 cents a loaf and postage was 4 cents. Don't you wish our wages went up like this. Oh well, that is the past. Let's look to the future. Have a great year. Norm
Netta's News Well, we start off Februry with Ground Hog Day on the 2ndbut that's only for residents up north wondering if sprin will come early. Then we have Ash Wednesday on the 6' ,Lincoln's Birthday on the 12", Valentine's Day on the 14", President's Day on the isth and Washington's Birthday on the 22'q But Valentine's Day.. oh, the memories of the day when we had just fallen in love, and that romantic day, February 14'~,is so important to us. Yes, we remember them well. You know you've been married forever when your spouse says to you on Valentine's Day: 'Honey, let's go out to dinner; I have two free coupons for hotdogs and fries at the Flea Market," and you reply, "Oh, how romantic. Do you mind if I go without my teeth, my gums are sore." This month has really flown by very fast, and with weather being cold, warm, cold, warm. I have not been out to find what is going on in the park and people are not giving me any gossip to write about. I know there are new residents in the park that have not gotten an official welcome yet, but be patient, there will be someone knocking at your door, hopefully this month. When the new officers for the association are in place, hopefully, there will be someone who will chair the position with Shirley Rouer. If you have a computer and room to store welcoming items and would like to meet and greet new residents, by all means, contact the President or me. I have the welcoming items. If you are wondering what happened to our annual potato bake, usually held in Jan. or Feb, we were not able to purchase the potatoes from Remington's this year. It seems they have new management and don't want to

accommodate us. We tried Sonny's but their oven only holds 100 potatoes at a time, so we'll have to come up with another idea. Pot Luck had Italian Night recently with many special dishes to enjoy. A large sheet cake was shared by all thanks to Judy and Ernie Sluder who are celebrating their 50th Anniversary Feb. 9th. Judy and Ernie are from Kentucky, and I just read an article in a magazine about an old bachelor from Kentucky, 90 years young who finally found the woman of his dreams and wanted to marry her. First thing he did was go to his doctor and got a shot of cortisone so he could get down on bended knee! Those of you who play bingo know that our bingo caller, Phil McPheron, recently had surgery and is now back to keeping us in "stitches" while his "stitches" heal. There are 3 stages of getting sick: ill, pill and 1 1 We all know that one well! Now, I can join Phil in the Stitch Club. I had my gallbladder removed recently, and I told the doctor while he was in the area to do a tummy tuck and some lifts and tucks in other places but he said it would take too long. Now I hear that Sue Peltier has joined the Stitch Club, too. Thank you to all who sent get well wishes to me. I'm doing good. I hear that Tonya Hahn will be the next member of the Stitch Club coming up soon. Tonya sells Avon if anyone is interested. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary to anyone celebrating this month. Have a good one. Netta Management Note Good news for those of you that would enjoy using the computers in the library if only they weren't so slow. Management is happy to announce that the computers are now connected to a high speed DSL line!!!! Also, a newer (not newest but it should be better) web browser has been installed named Mozilla Firefox 1.5. While we still can't guarantee there won't be some compatibility issues with certain web sites and content, with this newer browser and the fast connection you should now be able to check your Yahoo Mail in practically no time. Use them well and as always please remember these are public computers so make sure to always close the browser when you are finished for your own protection. Finally, please remember never to install any programs, or save any bookmarks, files or passwords so that the computers will be in good order for the next resident that uses them.
