White for the peace we wish to share, all men created equal.

Stars to remember those who fought throughout the night, bravely, for our land.

Stripes to remind us of the lashings taken by the prisoners of War. With a seal, in GOD WE TRUST, We each are one of many, in which we stand united in Brotherhood.

A symbol of Pride, A salute to those who died in the fight, A blanket to cover us in times of need.

Waving high to show we are still here, undefeated, With honor, you are presented to the world!

HURRICANE SHELTER LOCATIONS HERE IN PASCO COUNTY From: Phyllis This is something that I thought would be very helpful in case of evacuation here at Southfork if we get any signs of Hurricane Warnings etc.

There are many other shelters in Pasco County but these are the closest to us.

Special needs shelters are available for persons requiring more skilled medical care than is available in a public shelter, but not requiring an acute care facility, such as a hospital. TO REGISTER FOR THIS KIND OF SHELTER CARE, IT MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE, PLEASE CALL THE SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY IN PASCO COUNTY @ 727-847-8137 Here is a list of shelters to keep handy in case we have to leave our homes!

Just some tips: Stay away from downed power lines and avoid floodwaters. Always assume that a downed power line is energized, and move away to safety.

Caution: Use portable generators safely. DO NOT connect your portable generator to your home’s circuits. Also, portable generators must not be operated near air conditioning ducts or in residences or any enclosed space (including a closed garage or shed) where deadly carbon monoxide gases could build up.

New Lawn Mowers.

As of this writing, the new mowers have been here 3 times. We have been impressed with the quality of the work and in the response of the mowers to residents needs. We appreciate the response regarding the work being done. Please continue to have patience as we continue to work with the mowers to “iron out” the few little wrinkles remaining.

Crime Workshop We were very impressed with the turnout for the crime workshop and wish to thank all those that attended. We feel it was well worth it and certainly got the attention of the sheriff’s office. Please see the write-up on the workshop in a separate article.

Office Renovation By the time you receive this newsletter, our office facelift should be complete. Please stop by when you get a chance to see our new digs!

Please Respect Our Neighbors!

You may have noticed the new “no trespassing” signs that appeared on the property along Wild Road located southeast of our community. We know many of you have used this field for various activities like practicing your golf shot, walking your dog(s) and we even noticed a resident practicing the hammer throw (like in the Olympics). The owner has informed us that this is a working hay field and they derive some income from the hay that is grown and harvested there. Unfortunately dog droppings contaminate the hay (not a natural fertilizer). But what is more damaging is when someone drives through the field in golf carts or larger vehicles, like cars and trucks. Our neighbors have asked that Southfork residents respect their rights and not trespass on their property.

PASCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE CRIME FIGHTING WORKSHOP

At the request of the Park Managers and the HOA board, The Pasco Sheriff’s department held a town hall meeting on Thursday, May 31st to discuss the latest trends in crime fighting and crime prevention. Sheriff Nocco with 11 representatives from other departments in the Sheriff’s office were in attendance as were about 80 plus residents of Southfork.

Both the Sheriff and the representatives that spoke appeared well versed in the topics they spoke about. It was somewhat discouraging to hear about the level of drug use and crimes that are prevalent in Pasco County but fortunately much of the drug problems are in West Pasco. It was encouraging to hear the approach that Sheriff Nocco and his team are taking to fight crime in Pasco. He termed it “Intelligent Crime Fighting and Prevention”. The sheriff stressed the importance of maintaining a “partnership” with the residents in helping to combat and prevent crime in our neighborhoods. He also stressed that suspected criminals will no longer be given a “pat on the hand” and released but will be brought in and placed in jail immediately.

After the Sheriff and his team gave their presentations, the floor was opened to questions.

There were several questions raised regarding prevention techniques discussed and some past and present situations here at Southfork. As part of maintaining the partnership, it was suggested that a Community Crime Watch Security Patrol be re-instituted. David Rodriquez, head of the Community Watch Force group, agreed to conduct a training session to help get the crime watch patrol started.

A date of July 5th was set for the initial meeting. Stay tuned for additional details.

Place gallon jugs of water in your freezer………..IF……the power goes out for a long period of time……..put the frozen jugs in your refrigerator and keep the door closed………..your refrigerator becomes your cooler! Now, why I didn’t think of that before?

CHOICES goes out to lunch every Thursday, plays “May I” on Thursday and Sunday evenings. And of course, other card games are played all summer long.

DISTRAUGHT SENIOR CITIZEN

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor’s office. “Is it true that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?”

“Yes, I’m afraid so,” the doctor told her.

There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, “Just how serious is my condition? This prescription is marked “NO REFILLS.”

Women’s Club

During the summer months of June, July and August, the ladies of the Women’s Club meet at various restaurants for a get together and in the month of June, we met at I-HOP. There were 20 members and it was very enjoyable and everyone had a meal of their choice. Good Food, Good Company, Lots of laughs and there were 4 envelopes of cash given out to 4 lucky women and the Women’s Club picked up the tip.

We are cancelling the meeting of July because it falls on July 4 th, “Independence day” but we are scheduling one for August so be looking in the next newsletter and on the sign’s for the location and date.

During the summer months there is not too much business to discuss so we will resume our regular meeting on Wednesday, September 5th. Come to this meeting with some fresh ideas and suggestions of what you would like to have at our monthly meetings through the Fall/Winter months.

In the meantime, I would like to remind everyone that we will have our Annual Bazaar on November 17th following the Carport Sale on November 10th. So whatever you do not sale at the Carport Sale, remember that we have a White Elephant table headed by Willie Stoever and assisted by Debbie Burriss. They are working very hard to make this a success, so we would like to have your articles that you don’t need anymore and are slightly used so that we can sell them at the Bazaar. This is such a popular table and is a huge success with all of your donations.

Don’t forget…………50% of all sales at the Bazaar goes to charity!

More info will come as we get close to the November 17th date. So keep this date marked on your calendar and help make this another successful event…………

NOVEMBER CRUISE

This is a reminder about our cruise on the magnificent ship, on the Royal Caribbean, “Allure of the Seas” from November 25, 2012 to December 2, 2012.

There are 32 people signed for now and we would like to have more of you cruise with us. We will have a bus that will come and pick us up here at Southfork and bring us back.

This is a vacation of a lifetime, 7 days in paradise and we will be visiting, Nassau, St Thomas and St Marteen.

This ship is the top of the line and it includes, 7 District Neighborhoods (a must see), 25 Dining Room areas (if you go away hungry it is your own fault), 4 Swimming Pools, 10 Whirlpools and 2,384 crew members to serve you. There is an Aqua Theater with Aerial acrobats, a Flowrider and a Zipline Ride over the Central Park area.

Many beautiful shops for the shoppers with so many unique gifts and clothing etc. and you get a first rate show each evening and one of them is “Chicago” a braodway hit musical. There is also a Skating Rink with fabulous Ice shows.

There is so much to do and see and dancing to the wee hours of the morning for those that are interested, and there is so much more that is not listed here and its possible that you might not be able to do everything.

OLD WORN OUT FLAGS In last month’s newsletter I ask if anyone knew of a place where these US Flags can be taken when worn and torn and tattered. I placed a letter to the news editor of the Dade City news and my email was listed in the paper and I received many replies plus a few others contacted me with places that will take these flags.

One place I did not know that took them was at the HPH Regional Hospice Center on Clinton Rd here in Dade city. Just take them to the office and they accept them with no question. I called the Amvets and the American Legion and they said they would accept the worn and torn flags.

They are never to be thrown in the trash can and now you can place them at rest at one of these disposal areas. Hope this info helped.

DID YOU KNOW?

You can keep the flies away by taking a zip-lock baggie, fill it half way with water And add 4 pennies to the bag of water. Close the bag and tack it up in any outdoor sitting area and lo and behold, no flies will come around. I guess the pennies in the bag act like something is moving and with eyes and the flies won’t come near the area.

I have had so many people send me this tip, so I thought I would share with all of you. I hope it works for you!!!

OUT & ABOUT “OKTOBERFEST”, October 5, 6, 7th, 2012 A festive weekend in Savannah, Ga. Once again joining with Sunshine Travel Club and using their excellent Charter Bus service, we travel in safety and comfort to Savannah. Arriving mid-day, we have prepaid lunch reservations at the historic “Pirate’s House.” Lore has it that a lot of “booty” had been divided up there.

After checking in at The Inn at Ellis Square, known as the “Grand Lady on Bay Street”, housed within the totally restored Guckenheimer building (Irish I’ll bet) built in 1851 and after the hotel check-ins are completed, we take a prepaid historical tour of Savannah, noting the sites of Beer tents, Oompah bands, Bratwurst vendors, Clogging dancers and The River Street Beer Garden and probably other historical sites as well including the famed City Market.

Saturday and Sunday mornings begin with an excellent prepaid Continental breakfast. You will of course find all the amenities in our rooms. I can’t seem to shake the image of a bunch of old farts wearing football jerseys, commandeering a carriage and hooting it up on River Street.

The cost of this party weekend is $295.00/person. A $50.00 room deposit is due

by July 31, 2012. We are assured that this event will sellout.

Carolyn and I hope you can join us for what will surely be a memorable weekend.

Cinnamon Roll Waffle INGREDIENTS 1 can Pillsbury速 Grands!速 refrigerated cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing 1 cup powdered sugar 3 tablespoons milk 1 teaspoon vanilla

DIRECTIONS 1. Heat waffle maker; spray with cooking spray. Remove cinnamon rolls from can; set icing aside.

2. For each waffle, place 1 cinnamon roll in center of waffle maker; close & Bake 3 to 4 minutes or until waffle is thoroughly cooked and golden brown.

3. Meanwhile, in small bowl, stir together reserved icing, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla until glaze is smooth.

4. Serve glaze over hot waffles.

Be sure to spray the waffle iron in between each waffle. The sugar from the cinnamon roll can make the waffles stick.

These are also delicious served with real maple syrup instead of the cream cheese glaze. Add some toasted pecans for extra crunch.

Bounce This Along

All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer!

1. It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

4. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling..

5. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

6. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

7. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

8. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan..

9. Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

10. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

11. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

12. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

13. Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe lovebugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

All of us have a choice to make and many have almost run out of time. All of us have been in the valley but the mountains we’re not afraid to climb.

All of us, includes me because He knows I love Him, but how about you? All of us have been called and the one’s chosen by Him are very few.

God is the father of us all and your eternal soul He wants to save. Jesus died for us on the cross-for our sins, His life He willingly gave. ______________________________________________________________________________
