Have a Nice Summer Everyone!

The Gator Tales

The Unofficial Newsletter of Lake Hammock Village David Schnopp Editor PRESIDENT’S CORNER

All of you know that the HOA meetings are all done for the summer. The only meetings will be the board meetings. For those of you who missed the final HOA meeting, We discussed the trenches that the new owners had dug to eliminate the pooling problem on Reineke and Sargent. The board also decided to have the FMO draw up papers on the different rates in the other parks for us to have in October. The sides of the road on the other side of the gate have been cleaned, the trees trimmed and the gate painted. That is about all the news, we will see all of you at the meetings when they start up again in September. One final thing, there is a 4th of July party being planned that will be paid for by the board. See you all there and have a good summer.

Page # 7 MANAGERS NOTES

Dear Residents, Thank you to those of you who took the time to come out and meet us atthe recent resident meeting. It was a pleasure meeting of so many personally. Several of you had questions about some of the things we are considering doing to improve the community. At that time, however, wefelt it was a little too early to discuss plans that were not set in stone. A few items that Dave and Bill have already helped us accomplish are: weather/waterproofing of the dock, removal of old poles and rebar from around the dock area, re-painting the entrance gates, upgrading the pool and spa drains to comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, pruning of pine trees along main entryway, miscellaneous electrical repairs and upgrades in the common areas, repair of the drainage swale that runs between the lots at the midpoint of Reineke Road and Sargent Street to alleviate standing water after rain, upgrade of your utility reliability by having the City of Haines City take responsibility for the lift station, started print advertising and Internet presence for Lake Hammock (continued on the next column)

Re-sales to help you sell your home faster should the need arise, and posting the newsletter on the Lake Hammock page of our company website so that it can be read online for those who are out of town to stay up to date. Several more major items are still on our to-do list. We hope most of these items can be completed by the end of the summer. First, street repairs, asphalt rejuvenation, and updating the street signs throughout the community; and a re-stripe of the parking area at the clubhouse. Second, we intend to upgrade the entrance landscaping and signage; and repair the irrigation system and well. In our first four months of ownership, we have found Lake Hammock Village and it's residents to be a delightful community. We do look forward to a long and healthy owner/resident relationship. Thank you, Scott and Jeff Heiler

We are into our much-needed rainy season. Very good news. Bill and I met with David Ford of Mitigation Resources in reference to the wild hogs that are roaming the back of the property. They are leaving large holes in the ground while searching for food. He has asked that the residents be informed about the danger they present. Wild hogs are dangerous to people on foot and dogs that are allowed to run loose. You may see Mr. Ford and his people out back trying to trap the hogs. They will be carrying guns for protection and you may here shots from the back of the park. The hot tub is out of order and a repair request has been made. I think that the owners have solved the problem of Lake Reineke and Lake Johnson, I mean Lake Sargent. We are getting quotes for the front entrance and repair of roads. Finally, we will be getting new street signs shortly.

EDITOR’S NOTE If you have any submissions for “Gator Tales”, I would appreciate it if you would get them to me by the 20th of the month. DSCHNOPP2003@YAHOO.COM 863-353-1804 205 Glen Este Ct THANK YOU ALL What is so sad is that I didn’t realize how many people within our Lake Hammock community really cared. It wasn’t until my recent surgery did my eyes open to see so many caring and good people. I said to God that I am truly blessed and thank him for opening my eyes. As some may know, my operation went from being somewhat routine to being very complex. My hospital stay went from a planned five days to twelve. Each day I’m doing better and just want to thank everyone for your cards and especially, your prayers. A special thanks and sincere appreciation to my dear friend and neighbor, Father Chuck, who adopted, took excellent care of and spoiled Shasta my cat. Also to Nina who shared her domain with Shasta. For those who do not know, Nina is Chuck’s beautiful companion who was born a Chinese Shar-pei and was baptized as an Irish Setter. David Wakefield

WELCOME!

In the hustle & bustle of our daily lives, we easily breeze by some of the naturally beautiful sights that remain in the ever decreasing habitat of our urban sprawl. Sandhill Cranes are just one of these treasures. These elegant birds move slowly and with purpose, taking in all that is around them. Too many people do not take the same care in observing them. On my way to work this week, I saw a single crane in the middle of a large grassy median staring at the road. As I approached I saw with sadness that it was staring directly at his or her mate lying dead on the road. On my drive home, the crane was in the same stance, watching over it’s dead mate. The image of this majestic bird, mourning with such deliberate intent, its deceased mate brought more cars to a slow pace than its mate obviously did in life. There are many life lessons that can be taken from this, however, it is my hope that more people will take a few moments from their “zoom” setting, slow down, allow some of that trusting elegance into their daily lives and save some more of Central Florida’s beauty in the nature that remains around us.
