Facts about July Gemstone: Ruby

Flower: Larkspur, Water Lily

According to the Gregorian calendar, July is the seventh month. On the Roman calendar, it was the fifth month and it was called 'Quintilis', menaing 'fifth'. Julius Ceasar gave the month 31 days in 46 B.C. The Roman Senate named it 'Julius', in honor of Caesar. July is usually the hottest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. During July, when there isn't much rain, the grass often loses its greenness. Some flowers are abundant in July, because they strive on the heat. Also, insects are abundant as well - life is striving in July! Independence Day commemorates the birthday of the United States of America. It is celebrated on July 4 each year in states and possessions of the United States. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress declared the American Colonies free and independent states. But it took the delegates two days to agree on a formal document announcing their action. On July 4, the Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. Since then, July 4 has been celebrated as the nation's birthday. ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR It's that time of the year for the red white and blue They stand for freedom in all you say and do Show off those colors for all the world to see Fly them proudly over the air the land and sea We celebrate the birth of our blessed country It surely is indeed the land of the free

Thanks

A big thanks goes to Bob and Gail Roubaud for helping to deliver the Gator Tales for 10+ years. They thought it was time to let some newer residents help out. Memorial Day Celebration: Many thanks to all the people, who gave of their time and effort to bring us the inspiring, raising of the flag ceremony. The singing of patriotic songs was beautiful. The picnic was fun, food was good, sun was hot, but we all had a good time. All the work to organize and get things together was appreciated. Thank you all. Bob & Frances Gillen I want to thank all of you who asked Herman how I was doing during my back problem. I’m somewhat better. Also thank you to those who sent cards, and came to see me with flowers, and Donna and Vivian who took me to the pool. It's nice to know we have people who care. Thank you again. Golf Carts Should Not Be Used by Children for Entertainment (this was an article in the paper)

I simply had to respond to the article “Girl’s Father Seeks Safer Golf Carts,” Tuesday. My sympathy to the Wiegert family for the loss of their daughter in such a tragic manner. I live in a 55 plus golfing community, and not a spring or holiday vacation passes that I don’t see the potential for this kind of accident or even something worse. You see, as doting grandparents, our residents absolutely will not heed the advice and warnings of our POA about letting children drive golf carts around the community. I have seen very small children behind the wheel of a golf cart with a grandparent or parent in the passenger seat, and many times it is evident that the child has never driven before. People also sit their very small children on their laps and drive. Now, just how quickly can one turn a steering wheel with a child in front of you? On another occasion, a grandparent let a preteen child drive the golf cart alone while her brother was hanging onto the back riding a skateboard. Another potential hazard is the fact that there are many older residents who will back out of their driveway in either a golf cart or a car, and either do not look first, or just don’t see anything behind them. I am holding my breath for the day when there is a terrible accident, Please, let your children and grandchildren know that you care enough to say no to driving your golf cart. Don’t let your community make The Ledger’s pages because of a terrible accident that injures or takes the life of a child. Shirley Kalck (Lakeland)

Notice Regarding Monthly Gator Tales It has been noticed by the delivery staff that some of our residents are not taking their Gator Tales out of the tubes. Our new policy will be that if you want to have a Gator Tale delivered to you monthly then your tube must be empty or no new Gator Tale will be left and you will need to pick one up in the office or club house. Don’t expect the delivery person to clean out your tube monthly, this is your responsibility as residents.

Humor Ever wonder in your relationship how „the fight‟ started…: One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift… The next year, he didn‟t buy her a gift. When she asked him why, he replied, “Well, you still haven‟t used the gift I bought you last year!” And that‟s how the fight started… My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, “Do you want to have $ex?” “No,” she answered, I then said, “Is that your final answer?” She didn‟t even look at me this time, simply saying “Yes”. So I said, “Then I‟d like to phone a friend”. And that‟s when the fight started… I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. “I‟ll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.” He said, “Aren‟t you worried about the mad cow?” “Nah, she can order for herself.” And that‟s when when fight started…
