Manager Notes Happy Father’s Day Sunday, June 18th

HAINES CITY “GOLF CART ORDINANCE” For those of you who missed our May HOA Meeting…. The City of Haines City “Golf Cart Ordinance” has passed and is now in effect. The only difference from May‟s newsletter is that we will not be required to register or have our golf carts inspected. A copy of the Golf Cart Ordinance is posted in the clubhouse and I have copies in the office if you would like one.

The first phase of the 'Forestry Project' is now complete. The loggers have completed their removal and thinning of the pine tree area adjacent to Lake Hammock Village. The RV/Boat Storage area has been enlarged to accommodate our current and future new residents with RV's, Boats and Trailers. The clean up and preparation of the storage area has been scheduled. The time frame of completion is unknown at this time as it is dependent on outside contractor's schedules.

PET OWNER REMINDER Just a friendly reminder… If you are the owner of a pet I need you to have your pet registered at the office along with a picture of your pet and a current a copy of vaccination records as per our Rules and Regulations, Number 15. Registration form can be obtained at the office. Thank you.

Residents that have already have submitted the above…Thank you. Please do remember to bring in current copies of vaccination records when obtained. Thanks.

June Is: According to the Georgian calendar, which is used over most of the world today, June is the sixth month. On the Roman calendar, it was considered the fourth month and had only 29 days. Julius Caesar gave the month 30 days in 46 B.C., when he reformed the Roman calendar.

Spring ends and summer begins around June 20, 21, or 22 in the Northern Hemisphere. It's the time that the flowers are beautiful. It is especially the month for roses. In the Southern hemisphere, winter begins during June, and it brings cold, rainy weather to this part of the world.

The JUNE BUG also known as June beetle is the name for several large beetles seen in the United States during May and June. They are usually seen at night, when the light attracts them.

June bugs eat the young leaves of trees and plants. They deposit their eggs in the ground. The young larvae bury themselves in the soil in the autumn and stay there two years. They then come out in May or June as adult beetles.

Holidays in June Flag Day is observed in the United States on June 14. It commemorates the day in 1777 when the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as our flag.

It then had only 13 stars, to match its 13 stripes.

It's not an official national holiday, but in Pennsylvania, it is a legal holiday. The President has proclaimed a public Flag Day observance every year. It was first observed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the selection of the flag. President Harry S. Truman officially recognized June 14 as Flag Day by signing the National Flag Day Bill.

Our flag represents our independence as Americans and our unity as a nation. It leads our soldiers in battle and many have died protecting it. It even stands on the moon.

We Americans are proud of our nation, our culture, our people and our flag that represents all of those things. So raise your flag on Flag Day and show that American spirit!

Juneteenth is the oldest known holiday celebrating the end of slavery. It started on June 19th 1865 when the union soldiers, led by General Granger came to Galveston Texas and announced that the war was over and the slaves were free.

General Granger read the Emancipation Proclamation freeing about 250,000 slaves throughout Texas.

Father’s Day (June 19th) was conceived slightly more than a century ago by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father’s Day celebration — 100 years ago, June 19, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane’s mayor because it was the month of Smart’s birth. The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent

Tuesday, June 7th will be the HOA Board meeting at 7:00 PM. Wednesday, June 8th will be our Ladies Lunch at Sweet Tomato (I4 take Exit 68) Carpooling at 11:30 AM. Early Bird Dining will be Wednesday, June 15th. Carpool 4:15. We will be going to Macaroni Grill in Lakeland.

Breakfast this month will be at The END ZONE on Saturday, June 18th at 8:30 AM.

Sunday, June 19th will be celebrating our “Birthdays, Anniversaries and Father’s Day” at 6:30 PM. This will be a special celebration as Herman Biba turns 80 today. Everyone is welcome stay for the movie at 7 PM. Tuesday, June 21st we will be Dining by the Book at Suzanne Chalet.

Carpool at 4:30 PM. Salad Supreme - We are now into our hot, humid summer weather.

Generally, we bring a variety of foods and desserts, a little on the heavy side. As something new, I decided to have our potluck for this month on Friday evening at 6:00 pm on June 24th. This pot luck will consist of various salads & side items that are more cooling to the body. I hope to see you all on Friday evening, and hopefully this will be a nice start for the weekend.

I am in need of some new people that would please volunteer to help with the potluck.

SPEEDING Why do we do it in LAKE HAMMOCK VILLAGE? It is only approximately one to three blocks to the gates depending where we live in the park. Why do we race to get there and then race to get back to our driveways’? Oh by the way, in case you didn’t know it or you can’t read, the speed limit is 15 mph, I say it again, 15 miles per hour in Lake Hammock Village. This is according to our rules and regulations #9.

I have some information for all of you residents. About a month ago one of our residents got an off duty Ocala County Officer in here with a hand held radar device and in an hour and a half there was only one person doing the speed limit.

They even clocked a golf cart doing 22 mph.

Oh, another thing, there are also stop signs at the end of all our streets, some of you don’t even know they are there. I also know that the cops won’t come in here and write tickets for speeding because it’s private property, but the officer said they could write tickets for reckless endangerment, but I think we would have to pay them (this would need to be researched).

I was going to suggest starting to take pictures of speeders and stop sign runners and start a wall of shame in the clubhouse. I also know from going to most all of the homeowner meetings, that about 95% of the violators don’t go to the club house.

Carol Hubbard – 62 Sargent St – Carol is from Columbus, Ohio where she retired from the US Navy. Carol moved to Lake Hammock with her 14 year old Shih Tzu Daisy. Carol enjoys reading, crafts, genealogy, eating out, Indian food and culture.

Memorial Committee Purpose: This committee shall assist family and/or friends of recently deceased residents of Lake Hammock Village in the planning, organizing, and execution of memorial services to be held in the Clubhouse at Lake Hammock Village.

Methods: The committeel: 1)

Offer and provide voluntary assistance in planning for a memorial service if desired by family and/or friends of the deceased.

2) May assist in contacting local clergy and soloists.

3) Will contact residents via telephone notification system or e-mail to advise of scheduled memorial services.

4) Will arrange tables and chairs for services at the clubhouse and return them to their normal places after the service.

5) Will contact residents to seek voluntary donation of baked goods for refreshments following the services.

6) Shall make coffee and arrange a table of refreshments.

7) Will keep a file containing copies of frequently requested hymn lyrics to be distributed to guests for use during services; will collect such copies after the services to be retained for later use.

Rules: The committee: 1. Shall be limited to $25 of expenditures on any one service.

2. Will obtain all funding through solicited donations from LHV residents.

3. Shall not promise or obligate any expenditure of HOA funds.

4. Any payment to clergy or soloists will be the responsibility of family and/or friends.

5. If family and/or friends desire a luncheon to be served, the family or friends shall bear all related expenses.

6. Shall provide this assistance in accordance with the family’s religious preferences.

7. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed at services in the clubhouse.

The LHV Board of Directors appointed Marian Spiegel (422-1570) as committee chair for one year.

We are asking for a voluntary donation of $1.00 per household to go into the memorial fund. Volunteers will be coming to your doors in the near future.

Lake Hammock Village Homeowner’s Association Homeowner’s Association Meeting, Minutes Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Board Members in Attendance: 5 members 2 excused I.

Call to Order: President called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM followed by a Flag Salute.

II.

Previous Minutes: a) Motion to approve April 12th minutes as posted, seconded. Motion carried.

III.

Treasurer’s Report a) Treasurer’s report for April read. Income $90, expenses $563.86. As of April 30th account balance $2,468.18 in checking. b) Motion to accept Treasurer’s Report, seconded. Motion carried.

IV.

Officers’ Report a) President: 1) At the May 3, 2011 HOA Board Meeting the Memorial Committee proposal and rules passed. A chair was appointed for this committee for one year. The Memorial Committee purpose and rules will be published in the June Gator Tales.

2) Shuffle Board – The HOA Board has purchased some crystal beads for use on the courts. We don’t want to use the wax as the heat makes that build up on the courts and could eventually by detrimental to the courts.

The HOA President will keep the crystals at his house. Times for shuffle board will change to Monday & Friday at 6:30 PM for the warmer season.

V.

Committee Reports: a) Welcome: No new members b) Sunshine: Reported on the get well and sympathy cards sent out. c) FMO: Reported they had their last meeting until September. At the meeting everyone was thanked for fighting HB5005. The FMO will be looking into the Pass Through taxes and some park owners are not being truthful on the amounts they were paying.

d) Activities: 1) A report was given on events for May. 2) At the last Activities Committee meeting it was discussed about times for events starting, and how many of them tend to start before the printed time. This makes it bad for new residents coming for the first time. The monthly chairs will try and make sure events begin at the printed time.

3) New Bus Tour trips have been posted on the bulletin boards.

4) Thanked the person for stepping forward and being the June Activities Chair. We need new people to help chair monthly events. e) Memorial Committee: Reported the last memorial required no funds as used coffee and cold drinks from clubhouse. The chair person and others will be going door to door asking for a voluntary donation of $1.00 per house for future memorials. The purpose/rules for the memorial committee was read. Thanked the chair person for taking on this job for the year.

Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or local radio or TV stations for up-to-date storm information.

Prepare to bring inside any lawn furniture, outdoor decorations or ornaments, trash cans, hanging plants, and anything else that can be picked up by the wind.

Prepare to cover all windows of your home. If shutters have not been installed, use precut plywood as described above. Note: Tape does not prevent windows from breaking, so taping windows is not recommended.

Fill your car's gas tank.
