Happy 4th OF JULY Residents for your patience while the RV/Boat/Trailer Storage area was being prepared. Everyone’s units are now back in the storage area. Hopefully by the end of the year the new addition to the storage area will be added and we will have more areas for new and current residents.

The vacant lots are “not” to be used for Resident’s extra parking…visitors are allowed to park in the vacant lots for a short period of time when needed.

There have been a lot of Resident guests this past month … Remember that ALL overnight guests must be registered at the office… Guest Registration forms can be obtained at the office or in the Clubhouse. Please also remember that any guest under the age of 15 must be with a resident while enjoying any LHV amenity.

Haines City has a “leash ordinance” as well as we do in our Rules and Regulations #15. Please remember: Your dog must be on a leash at all times that they are not inside your home.

Hanes City has a “barking ordinance” as well as we do in our Rules and Regulations #15. Several complaints have been received regarding some residents barking dogs (especially when the resident is not at home).

Continuous barking is an annoyance and discomfort to other residents’ peaceful enjoyment of our park.

Cans and other garbage have been found in the lake, by the dock/ramp area and around the picnic area.

Please dispose of any garbage you might have in the garbage can provided for you by the picnic area or take your trash with you. Thank you.

July Is: The Ruby is the gem for July. The water lily is the flower for the month.

According to the Gregorian calendar, July is the seventh month. On the Roman calendar, it was the fifth month and it was called 'Quintilis', meaning 'fifth'. Julius Ceasar gave the month 31 days in 46 B.C. The Roman Senate named it 'Julius', in honor of Caesar.

July is usually the hottest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. July is one of the winter months in the Southern Hemisphere. The climate is mild in most of the Southern Hemisphere, with the exception of the COLD Antarctica, and the cold, rainy part of South America.

During July, when there isn't much rain, the grass often loses its greenness. Some flowers are abundant in July, because they strive on the heat. Also, insects are abundant as well - life is striving in July!

The 10 most popular types of recreation in the United States are: (1) visiting zoos, aquariums, fairs, and carnivals; (2) picnicking; (3) automobile driving for pleasure; (4) walking or jogging; (5) swimming; (6) travel; (7) watching sports events; (8) participating in sports and games; (9) fishing; and (10) taking nature walks.

Holidays in July

Canada day is a day for Canadians to Celebrate independence. It is celebrated on July 1st unless that date is a Sunday in which case it is celebrated the day after.

On July 1st of 1867 the queen of England gave them independence.

INDEPENDENCE DAY Independence Day commemorates the birthday of the United States of America. It is celebrated on July 4 each year in states and possessions of the United States. On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress declared the American Colonies free and independent states. But it took the delegates two days to agree on a formal document announcing their action. On July 4, the Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. Since then, July 4 has been celebrated as the nation's birthday.

Independence Day was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776.

Congress declared July 4 a federal legal holiday in 1941.

On Independence day, in the early days, they had lots of shows, including fireworks. Fireworks has cause many deaths. In the 1900's, many places passed laws forbidding the sale of fireworks. Some cities have fireworks, but they are put on by trained professionals.

Lake Hammock Village July Happenings All the signup sheets for events are posted in the clubhouse.

Join us for Bunco on Monday, 4th of July at 2 PM. Bring your choice of drink and an appetizer to share. It will be $2.00 a person and you must sign up before the 4th. The money will be for prize money. Please bring the exact amount.

Tuesday, July 5th will be Ladies Luncheon at Zen in Pozner Park. Carpooling is at 11:30 AM. As Tuesday is 10% discount day at Ross, we will check it out after lunch.

Tuesday, July 5th will be the HOA Board meeting at 7:00 PM. Thursday, July 7th is the Activity Meeting at 2:00 PM in the clubhouse.

Early Bird Dining will be on Thursday, July 14th. We will be going to Manny’s Chop House. They promised me we could be in the new addition.

(It is quieter). Carpooling is at 4:30 PM. Saturday, July 16th is our breakfast out at The End Zone. Meet there at 8:30 AM. Sunday, July 17th is our celebration of July Birthdays and Anniversaries at the clubhouse at 6:30 PM. Movie will follow at 7 PM. Dining by the Book (Enjoyment Book) will be going to Saltwater Grill on Wednesday, July 20th. Carpooling at 4:30 PM. Our monthly potluck will be on Thursday, July 28th at 6:00 PM.

ATTENTION: PET OWNERS POLK COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL AND SERVICES LAKE HAMMOCK VILLAGE RULES AND REGULATIONS LEASH LAW: In Polk County (Haines City), dogs’ owners are prohibited from allowing their dog to become a stray or run at large upon any public street, sidewalk, park, other public property or private property of another.

In these specified areas a dog is required to be leashed and under the direct control of the person in custody of the animal. Violation of this ordinance is a punishable offense. For more specific language on this ordinance see Polk County Ordinance, Section 14-27.

A dog at large is defined by Section 14-22 as a dog who is off the premises of its owner or custodian and who is not under the direct control or supervision of its owner or custodian. “Under direct control” means a dog is, at all times, under the immediate and continuous physical control by means of a leash, fence, chain or cord of sufficient strength.

BARKING: In Polk County (Haines City) any owner or custodian of a companion animal shall be deemed to be maintaining a nuisance in violation of this article that: 1. Continuously barks, whines, howls, meows, cries, or causes other objectionable noises resulting in an unreasonable annoyance to neighboring residents, interference with the comfortable enjoyment of life, or interference with the comfortable enjoyment of property.

Violation of this ordinance is a punishable offense. For more specific language on this ordinance see Polk County Ordinance, Section 4-31.

Lake Hammock Village Rules and Regulations, #15 Pets: Aggressive or noisy pets will not be permitted…… Owners must keep their pets on a leash when outside the home.

Thank you for all of the cards and expressions of love and sympathy, and for your attendance at the Memorial Service celebrating his life.

In the last issue of Gator Tales I mentioned that "Darlene is not out of the woods yet..." On May 31st, she did walk out of the woods but decided to walk towards Eternal Life and is now Resting in Peace!

As much as I hate to say my final goodbye to her, my best friend, my confidant, my only shoulder to cry on and my loving wife for 26 years...I had to. It was the hardest thing to do. She fought so long hoping to see her grandchildren Ty Michael, Tessa Ann and Anna grow who she dearly loves. Now she will be up there to watch over them.

Once again, my sincere thanks to all our friends and neighbors here at Lake Hammock Village, our relatives in Pennsylvania, Hawaii and Philippines, and her former classmates from Eichelburger High School in Hanover, PA who have expressed their feelings of sympathy on her passing and friendship and affection for Darlene while she was with us. Her emotional funeral service back in her hometown is something to linger in everyone's heart and mind. The Eulogy given by her son, George W. Miller III and her long-time best friend Vicki Harman pretty much said the person she was. I had 26 years of good pleasant life with her and have all the fond memories that I can treasure for the rest of my life. Thanks to all for all the get-well cards, words of condolences, sympathy cards, flowers (from Kathy & Dan Duel), donations and endless phones calls of moral support. I will always treasure her friends as she treasured them...they are the best! Darlene is one person who never talked bad about people even the very people that hurt her. I hope one thing we all can learn from. Enjoy life...it is too short not to!

Eavesdropping Elder Seems an elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years.

He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%. The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."

To which the gentleman said, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!"
