April awakens the spirit in all living things. Its legendary showers wash the landscape with renewal and promise. Golden daffodils confirm that the earth is a stir with new life. Trees that had etched the sky with stark branches suddenly sprout buds that magically become blossoms and leaves. The sleeping earth is awakening! April is the fourth month of the Gregorian calendar year. It has 30 days. The Romans gave this month the name Aprilis, derived from aperire, probably because it is the season when buds begin to open; it was called Eostre (Easter) month by the Anglo-Saxons. Playing tricks on the first day of April is a custom among European peoples. In France the victim of such practical jokes is called an April fish; in Scotland, a gowk or cuckoo; and in Englishspeaking countries, an April fool.
You're a springtime kind of person, and there's sunshine in your smile. There's warmth in all the gladness you impart. And here's the special reason you're so like this lovely season-It's the springtime that you keep within your heart. Happy Easter Happy Spring

Manager Notes
Sunday April 8th
arrived March 20th and brought with it some more great Florida weather. March also brought us some new residents ~ Welcome to Lake Hammock. April will see some of our Winter Residents returning to their homes up North. Have a great summer and we will see you in the Fall/Winter.
On March 20th Lake Hammock Village hosted the monthly Haines City Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. We had a good turnout of several Haines City businesses, as well as several City Officials, Haines City Police Chief and Haines City Fire Chief. I want to thank our very own Clay Cut Angels of Haines City Car Group for their ‘cruise in’ and being taxi drivers to our visitors. Also a big ‘thank you’ to Ron and Arlene Plouffe who were our evening DJ’s and to the residents who helped before, during and the clean up after the function. Thank you.
Our ‘Residents Day Patrol’ sign-up sheets are in the clubhouse (next to the HOA information board). If you want to participate in the ‘day patrol’ just sign up for the time you would like to patrol the park and or sit out front in our ‘Village Rendezvous’ area. The golf cart ‘patrol’ signs are in the cabinet where the night patrol supplies are. Our ‘patrol’ has obviously helped diminish the solicitors in our park … as well as all residents who advise any solicitor that we will not tolerate solicitors in our Village and we will not hesitate to report them to the police. Great job everyone! If you would like to participate in either our day or night patrol and have not received your ‘Patrol Booklet’ stop by the office and either I or Bill will put you on our volunteer ‘patrol list’. Thank you ‘volunteers’ from all the Lake Hammock Village residents.
It is that time of the year to check our homes, carports and lamp posts to see if they are in need of cleaning and/or repairs. By keeping your carport clean and free of clutter, as well as keeping your house and lamp post clean and painted it keeps our Village looking attractive and inviting to new or possible new residents. I hear over and over what “a nice park we have, how it is so clean”…let’s keep hearing those compliments.
Renee` April 2012

APRIL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
By the time you read this message, the yard sale and fish fry will be over. Thanks to all who helped. Now, you are ready for April activities. Make sure you join us for the Saturday, April 7th Cook-out down at the lake for lunch following the Easter golf cart parade. Please check the Gator Tales’ calendar for all the events happening in April. The Board of Directors is considering cancelling Board meetings during the summer. We have been fortunate to have residents step forward to run a 4th of July activity and a Pool Party during the summer. If you have a great idea for a future activity, please get it to any Board Member in the next couple of months. Currently the Board is working on revisions to our Welcome letter and finalizing the proposed changes to our Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. While these will take several months to do, it is essential that we go slowly and get it right. Phyllis, the cats and I will be leaving just after Easter for our 24 hour drive home. We hear that it has been unseasonably warm in Ontario. The ice is off the lake and the Canada geese have returned and have already begun to “fertilize” the front lawn! To all other snowbirds, I extend, on behalf of all Lake Hammock Village residents, sincere best thoughts for a safe trip home, a great summer and a safe return. You will be missed. The return trip gets me thinking and planning for our spring/summer season. Spring happens very quickly with the flowers and trees showing their magic once again. There is the vegetable garden to plant after the fear of final frost is over. The docks and the boat have to get into the water. Soon routines set in and sometimes we have to declare a day off to enjoy life. I leave you with the following quote: “Rest is not idleness and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water or watching the clouds float across the sky is by no means a waste of time.” J.Lubbock Sincerely, Dave

The Rules of Chocolate If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly. Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices and strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want. The problem: How to get two pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot. Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite and you'll eat less. A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one place. Isn't that handy? If you can't eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can't eat all your chocolate, what's wrong with you? If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves. Money talks. Chocolate sings. Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger. Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous? Because no one wants to quit. Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done. Chocolate is a health food. Chocolate is derived from cacao beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived either from sugar beets or cane, both vegetables. And, of course, the milk/cream is dairy. So eat more chocolate to meet the dietary requirements for daily vegetable and dairy intake.
HAPPY EASTER !!!

A Little Humor for Your Day A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally, it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns. 10 years later at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food there was very good and the wine selection was good also. 10 years later at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because could eat there in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean. 10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheel chair accessible and they even had an elevator. 10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there been there before.

“FOOD DRIVE” This year we would like to try to support “A House Blest” with a “Food Drive” before our “Northern Friends” leave us! There will be a box in the Clubhouse beginning April 1, 2012 through May 15, 2012. We will be accepting unopened and unexpired dry goods for “A House Blest”. Anyone not wanting to take their food home with them is welcome to leave it here to support our community through the summer months. Of course, ANYONE is welcome to donate! Chuck and Marileigh Osborne have graciously agreed to make sure the box is emptied on a regular basis and delivered to “A House Blest”. Also, if you want to, you may drop any goods on the porch of Cathy & Walter Strohmaier at 192 Glen Este Blvd before April 1, 2012. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy at 863-419-2699.
