June is a month of new beginnings. Graduates face a future of limitless possibilities; young couples leave the altar to begin a lifetime of happiness together. In June, everything is fresh and new! This is reflected in nature, whose new clothes are fashioned of a perfect blend of warm days and cool nights. The Junes in life are to be cherished, for seldom are things in such perfect harmony. The year itself is in balance ~ half of it is past, half lies ahead; you're in the very center. You have a choice: the next six months can follow the same course as the past six ~ or you can forge the path of a new beginning.

Special Days in June: Flag Day is an American holiday celebrating and showing respect to our flag and the people who designed and created it. Our flag represents our independence as Americans and our unity as a nation. It leads our soldiers in battle and many have died protecting it. It even stands on the moon. We Americans are proud of our nation, our culture, our people and our flag that represents all of those things. So raise your flag on Flag Day, June 14th, and show that American spirit!

In 1936, a National Father's Day Committee was formed and Father's Day was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956. President Richard Nixon in 1972 established a permanent national observance of Father's Day and the third Sunday in June was chosen as the date for its observance here in the United States as well, as Canada.

The summer solstice is normally June 21st (sometimes the 20th). In the northern hemisphere this is the day with the most daylight. After this date the days begin to get "shorter". Normally this day is not specifically celebrated in North America. However, other cultures do have celebrations. This is, also, the first day of summer. ___________________________________________________________________ Hurricane Season begins June 1st. If we get word that a possible hurricane is nearing remember to put away any lawn decorations or furniture that could become airborne.

Managers Report As the days get longer and the nights get shorter, summer is just around the corner ~ June 20th and outdoor activities are a great way to enhance your regiment of staying healthy. Stay in that routine, whether it‟s your daily trip to the store or working in your yard, the rewards will be great!

With our warmer weather, hopefully our rainy season will be plentiful, general care of your yard is more demanding during this season. Take a look around your yard for necessary need of: trimming of shrubs, trees, weeding, edge trimming, and the need of fertilizer for your yard, as well as treat your yard for insect or fungus infestations.

Also, please check your homes for need of pressure washing. Another reminder is to be sure that your driveway and carport area is free of clutter.

Let‟s keep Lake Hammock Village attractively maintained to help sustain the high standards of our park and keep hearing the great compliments from visitors!

Dock Sails…

Thank you to the Heilers‟, park owners, for the addition of the dock sails over the two seating areas on our dock.

Many of you have already enjoyed them and have complimented “yet what another great addition to our park”.

We all love our dogs; we love how happy they are when they greet you at the door, we love how excited they get when you give them a treat, we love their goofy faces and their funny antics. They just make us happy! What we don‟t like about our dogs is the dog waste and how it is a menace to our nose and our feet! It is really important that we pick up the dog waste in our community so that other residents and guests don‟t step in it. It is easy ~ just grab a plastic bag and pick up your dog‟s poop! You can use a plastic bag from the grocery store for free or buy specially designed doggy bags. Another safety measure regarding your favorite pooch is to make sure you always have a leash on your pet! It is in the best interest of your pet, your neighbors, park guests and your neighbor‟s pets! Walkers, bike riders, golf cart drivers and passengers need to feel safe walking or riding in our community and leashing your pet will ensure their safety and their pet‟s safety!

Lets‟ work together as a community to keep our neighborhood clean and safe! Not only is this a reminder to “scoop the poop” and keep your dogs on a leash but is also part of our Rules and Regulations and Pet Policy of Lake Hammock Village. Too many complaints are received regarding “no scooping of the poop”, dogs without leashes, residents using other residents yards for their dogs urination and their waste, as well as „possible new residents‟ comments regarding this! Please do not purposely take your pet to another‟s resident‟s yard to do their business! This has been and is a constant complaint by residents (dog owners as well as non dog owners) who do not appreciate you allowing your dog to use their yard for your dog‟s elimination of urination and waste. Sadly this was also noticed being done by a prospective home buyer….the comments made by them were quite negative! Please „scoop the poop‟, keep the leashes on and do not purposely use other resident‟s yards for your dog‟s elimination of urination and poop! Thanks everyone for your cooperation.

HOA President’s Report Welcome to June, even though I am writing this mid-May. We are very busy these days – flower gardens to prepare, vegetable garden to go in (but not before the 24 th of May) and all the normal cleaning to be done before the summer company starts to arrive. The boat and docks are in – so let the season begin!

I am always amazed at how quickly everything happens (probably a sign of getting of getting older!)

We were able to get away for a week of antiquing in Brimfield, Mass. We saw between 4,000 – 5,000 dealers and found a couple of “treasures”. It is a funfilled week which gives us a break from the yard work.

By the time you read this article you will have celebrated Memorial Day. It’s an opportunity to pause and thank all the men and women who have and continue to serve in the military. Years ago, I saw a sign that stated “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” I believe we should also have a sign which states: “If you cherish your freedom, thank a veteran.”

To all the men and women at Lake Hammock Village who are veterans, I extend the thanks of our community.

I received a photo of the Memory Tree being planted. Well done! Thanks to Sally Phillips and Jim Fitch for seeing this project through to completion.

June will be a quiet month, but I look forward to hearing (and seeing) your July 4th activity. Enjoy it and stay cool!

will speak in the clubhouse on assistances available for elderly citizens (aged 60+). Even if you don’t require any assistance at this time come out and learn what is available for when you might need it or a neighbor or family member is in need of assistance.

Flag Day, Thursday, June 14th – Potluck Dinner – 5:30 PM - Please bring a covered dish enough to serve at least 8 people and your own tableware. See you there.

Saturday, June 16th - Breakfast at T Bones (35510 U.S. HWY 27N). Meet there at 8:30 AM. Cathy Strohmaier in charge of reservations (419-2699).

Sunday, June 17th – Birthdays and Anniversaries celebration is at 6:30 PM (clubhouse) followed by a movie at 7:00 PM. This is for everyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary in June and everyone else who wants to help our residents celebrate their special day. Need a host or hostess for this event.

Transportation Services Do you need transportation to Doctor’s office, Hospital for Treatments, grocery shopping, etc.? A number of your Lake Hammock Village neighbors and friends have agreed to make this service available to you as residents of our fine community. If you or someone you know in LHV needs any of these services, Walter & Cathy Strohmaier have agreed to co-ordinate this outreach. Polk County Elderly Services Polk County Elderly Services is responsible for providing comprehensive case management to eligible elderly adults (60+) through initial and ongoing evaluation of the individual’s emotional, physical, environmental social and mental condition. The case manager assists in arranging in-home services which include: Emergency Alert Response System, Homemaking, Personal Care, Nutrition, and Transportation.

A speaker from this agency will be giving a talk in our clubhouse on Friday, June 8th at 10:00 AM. Please plan on attending to learn more about what they have to offer.

MARBLED BROWNIES submitted by Jane Biba

2 3oz.pkgs. Soft cream cheese 2 eggs

5 tbs. of margarine 2 tbs. flour

1/3 cup sugar 3/4 tsp. vanilla

CREAM CHEESE MIXTURE-- Beat together and soften butter and cream cheese. Add sugar, eggs, flour, and vanilla; beat until smooth and set aside.

PREPARE ONE PACKAGE MILK CHOCOLATE (23.0 oz.) BROWNIE MIX USING CAKE –LIKE INSTRUCTIONS. Spread half of the brownie batter into a 13"x9" pan. Pour all the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter. Spoon the remaining brownie batter in spots over the top. Swirl the two mixtures together with a knife.

Bake 350F. for 36 to39 mins.

Cool and frost with ready to spread milk chocolate frosting.

It has been brought to my attention that LHV had no vehicle accidents during our past Easter Parade due to the expert traffic control of our very own Norm Baczkiewicz. He took time to stop traffic at each intersection in LHV on our parade route. Thanks, Norm and we don’t know how we will control the local LHV traffic when you are away.
