Our Rich History Company Overview As a trusted Triad builder for more than nine decades, Frank L. Blum Construction Company is proud of our long-term relationships with owners of projects that excite our passion for building. Our partnerships develop during thoughtful and thorough commitments and dedication to our owners and our staff.
History + Ownership Established in 1923, Frank L. Blum Construction Company has been a trusted building partner to owners in North Carolina and Virginia for generations. With the lowest actively-used general contractor license number in the state of North Carolina - License #18 - the firm has a solid reputation for weathering the most challenging economies, partnering with the most exacting owners, and excelling at the most complex projects. Many iconic and beloved buildings bear the Blum Construction imprint of fine craftsmanship on the original structure or its subsequent renovation or restoration.
We create high quality spaces for our clients which allow them to fulfill their unique missions. Whether providing spaces for housing, education, entertainment, an enjoyable work space or curing the sick, we believe in developing lasting relationships based on trust, creativity, and fun. This is accomplished by super-serving our clients and never wavering in our pursuit of perfection. The end products of our efforts are well-crafted, high-quality buildings for some of the most exacting owners in North Carolina and Virginia.
The firm was founded in 1923 with company assets -as listed by Frank L. Blum himself -including a Ford automobile, two concrete mixers, one team of mules, a wagon and harness. Through the economic challenges of the 1930s, the turbulent war years in the ‘40s, Mr. Blum’s sudden death and rally of employees to save the company in the ‘50s, the company has endured and succeeded in hard times.
Blum Construction is headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC with additional offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, and Asheville. We have a strong management team ensuring the excellence of our operations and leadership to accommodate our client’s building needs. Many of our projects are for repeat clients, and our projects are won on the basis of the qualifications, experience, and the values and devotion of our people.
The firm was incorporated in 1954 after the death of Mr. Blum, when employees bought shares in the company to keep it in business. It has remained an employee-owned firm ever since. Blum Construction has grown to be one of North Carolina’s most trusted builders by focusing on its Core Values – a commitment to unparalleled integrity and ethics, client service, pride in our workmanship, operational excellence, safety in the workplace, and lifelong learning. Blum takes great pride in its work and its dedication to the community, its clients, and each other. We understand that our people are our greatest asset.

F
or more than five decades, Frank L. Blum Construction Company has been North Carolina’s first choice for providing patient-centered solutions in healthcare construction. With the understanding that patient care and well-being are top priorities, we strive to provide the best possible experience and result in the delivery of our healthcare projects including acute care, medical office facilities, cleanroom environments, laboratories, surgical centers, and many other healthcare settings. Our experience in healthcare projects encompasses a vast range of complexities and sizes, ranging from miscellaneous repairs and equipment change outs to large, multiphased new construction and renovation projects accommodating hundreds of staff and patients. We have leveraged our experience with a disciplined approach to continuing education, training, certifications, and frequent internal discussions amongst our staff to develop proven processes tailored specifically to healthcare construction. These processes outline the proper techniques and methods for working on and in medical environments. We have empowered our teams to do whatever it takes to ensure these practices are followed, and we do not compromise. Although we use the knowledge gained from our years of experience to our advantage, we also understand each project has its own set of challenges that require dedicated, actively engaged resources in the preconstruction and planning stages, as well as the execution and implementation of the work.
