Production Manager When I reflect on this Mainstage season at Flat Rock Playhouse, I think about the framework that makes our work possible. Design meetings becoming CAD files. Load-in schedules layered over rehearsal calendars. Scene shifts mapped before the first actor steps into the space. The quiet hum of projectors warming before the house opens. This has been one of our most technically ambitious seasons since my start in 2013. With Pride and Prejudice, Footloose, Rent, and Sister Act, full-scale projection design became central to the storytelling. That level of integration requires tight coordination between scenic, lighting, sound, stage management, and video design—ensuring every cue lands with clarity and purpose. Projection at this scale isn’t decoration; it’s architecture. It shapes environments and expands the footprint of our stage beyond its walls. Each production demands its own language. Pride and Prejudice called for precision and restraint. Footloose thrived on momentum and synchronization. Rent required immediacy and seamless integration between technology and emotion. The Odd Couple reminded us that scale isn’t everything—timing is. Comedy lives in seconds: a door, a cue, a pause. And now, with Sister Act, we raise the scale again. Dynamic projections, layered cueing, rapid transitions, and bold musical staging require every department to move in sync. When the spectacle feels effortless, it is the result of careful planning and exact execution. What you see is the finished story. What I see is the collaboration behind it—carpenters, painters, electricians, sound engineers, costume teams, prop artisans, and stage managers working with precision so each performance unfolds seamlessly. The success of this season is engineered, and I am proud of the teams who make it possible. Thank you for valuing not only the art onstage, but the craftsmanship that brings it to life. – Adam Goodrum, Production Manager – Flat Rock Playhouse

Why We Give Paul M. Simons & Reid B. Hughes, Jr. (“Buddy”) Flat Rock Playhouse is part of what makes our community special. We believe having professional, high-quality live theatre here in Western North Carolina is something worth celebrating, supporting, and preserving for future generations. The Playhouse brings people together, creates shared experiences, and adds immeasurably to the cultural life and character of the community we call home. For us, though, supporting the Playhouse is about much more than what happens on the main stage. We are especially passionate about the opportunities FRP creates for young people. We are proud to sponsor the Apprentice Program, which gives college students the opportunity to learn, gain professional experience, and begin building careers in the arts. These young artists become part of the long tradition of “Vagabonds” whose beginnings at Flat Rock Playhouse are fondly remembered as their careers take them to Broadway, cruise ships, regional theatres, and stages around the world. That commitment to education begins even earlier. Through programs in local schools, summer training, and opportunities to experience a professional theatre environment, FRP mentors students from elementary through high school and gives them opportunities to discover and develop their talents. Ultimately, we support Flat Rock Playhouse because of what it gives back: education, opportunity, community, and joy. We have shared many memorable evenings there with family and friends, and we want to help ensure that future generations can experience that same magic.
Flat Rock Playhouse is deeply grateful to Buddy, Paul, and to all the donors whose generosity sustains our Playhouse family and makes the magic on “The Rock” possible. Thank you!
