A MESSAGE FROM JOE IPPOLITO PRESIDENT, FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE BOARD OF TRUSTEES It is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome all of you back to the Flat Rock Playhouse Mainstage. To my mind, it has been much too long since we could gather for the outstanding theatrical experiences we are accustomed to in this theatre. I know that our Producing Artistic Director, Lisa K. Bryant, and her staff are very excited to again be producing shows for you. The pandemic has been traumatic for all of us. Our lives were turned upside down, we endured being effectively quarantined in our homes, many of us were unable to work, nothing was as it should be. Now, even as we gather here, COVID is not completely behind us. Still, as we learn more and more about it, we can begin to return to some element of normality. We believe that Flat Rock Playhouse productions are a very real part of that normality. The Staff has been busy since March 2020 when we were ordered to close the Theater. They have worked to understand the many and varied changes and instructions ordered by various governmental entities. And, with each shift of guidance, the Staff has reacted to accommodate and assess the impacts of those changing circumstances. At last, we are back doing what we do best – entertaining you with outstanding productions and events. I am confident that you will find that the quality you are used to has not slipped one bit. As you likely know, while the Playhouse has been dark, we have been engaged in a major fund-raising initiative – our Rock Solid Campaign. As we approach the completion of that campaign at year’s end, we are on course to achieve our goal of $1.5 million. To those of you who have helped us with your donations, we thank you. For those of you who have not yet donated to the Campaign, we respectfully ask you to consider doing so now. Remember, any gift regardless of its size is important. While large gifts are certainly appreciated, smaller gifts are also equally welcomed. Many smaller gifts combine to provide needed assistance for us. Of course, as always, your donation to the Playhouse’s Campaign qualifies as a tax-deductible, charitable 501(c) (3) gift.

Now, to borrow from one of America’s greatest musicals, Gypsy, sit back, relax, and let us entertain you. Joe Ippolito President, Flat Rock Playhouse Board of Trustees.

A MESSAGE FROM MATTHEW GLOVER DIRECTOR OF A FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE CHRISTMAS As my favorite lyrics in A Flat Rock Playhouse Christmas remind us, “there’s so much to be thankful for.” This year, these words ring more true than ever, as we gather once again to share the gift of live theatre. When I was first asked to conceive of this show in 2017, I never imagined it would become a yearly holiday tradition in our community. As we celebrate our fifth production, I’m grateful to collaborate once again with an amazing staff, crew, and cast to create a performance bursting with holiday spirit. But the opportunity to gather again on The Rock and share this production with you, our patrons, is the biggest gift of all. I’m counting my blessings. After this performance I hope and pray that you feel thankful for all that you have in your life. Because… “Some days, we forget to look around us. Some days, we can’t see the joy that surrounds us. So caught inside ourselves, we take when we should give… There’s so much to be thankful for.” Matthew Glover

A MESSAGE FROM LISA K. BRYANT, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Welcome (back) to Flat Rock Playhouse! If I hadn’t lived it every day, I would be hard-pressed to believe that FRP’s doors were shut for 19 months, or 572 days. Either way—a long time! We missed all our patrons and artists and the thrill of producing live theatre more than I can express. As it has all over the world, the global pandemic has had its way with the ‘ROCK’ too. The live arts were particularly challenged since having folks gather indoors en masse wasn’t the priority for health experts, not to mention the complex process involved behind the scenes putting a live show together and ensuring the safety of the team. BUT! We’re here now and overjoyed to get back to doing what we do—for You! And honestly, we’re ready to remind everyone just how special The State Theatre of North Carolina is and that there is nowhere else in Western North Carolina that offers world-class entertainment quite like the Playhouse does. Thank you for coming back to the theatre! Without you, there literally is no us. Our gratitude for the unwavering support of Playhouse and theatre lovers knows no bounds, and we just want to thank you over and over with production excellence that brings joy and light to your lives, and to everyone at FRP for decades more to come. Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Wishing you and your family peace, love, happiness and light this holiday season and throughout 2022. Cheers to a prosperous New Year! With love and gratitude, Lisa K. Bryant, Producing Artistic Director

THE LEIMAN

Find peace and tranquility in this new garden of remembrance. Flat Rock Playhouse’s founder, Robroy Farquhar, settled in this beautiful mountain region to celebrate the joys of nature and create a safe haven to practice his craft. In 2021, we continue to embrace the quiet serenity of our beautiful surroundings with The Leiman Garden of Remembrance. David and Sharon Leiman donated this hallowed ground in memory of the six million Jews and millions of other men, women, and children murdered by Nazi Germany. The garden invites us all to remember, learn, reflect and NEVER FORGET. David and Sharon first came to Flat Rock Playhouse in 2016 for the all-star hit production, Million Dollar Quartet. We are honored and overjoyed to call this dynamic duo part of the Flat Rock Playhouse team of patrons, donors, and volunteers.
